Today I welcome another two inspirational women from Australia's first America's Cup Team that will be competing in the covetted event being held in Barcelona this September. I love bringing to story of first to you and feel honoured to be sharing with you, not only their personal stories but the Australian story and the connection to our world famous win back in 1983. The America's Cup is the world's oldest sporting trophy, established in 1851 and is the most prestigious international yachting prize. Informally known as the Auld Mug, the trophy is fought for via match races between a defender nation and challenger nation. When John Bertrand skippered Australia II with its Ben Lexcen designed winged keel, it broke the 132-year winning streak to claim the Cup for Australia. The Confederation of Australian Sport billed it the ‘greatest team performance in 200 years of Australian sport'. Annie Wilmont grew up sailing on Sydney Harbour, spending most of her life on the water. She was firstthrown in a Manly Junior at 4 years old and has loved the sport ever since. Annie is a member of the Australian Sailing Team, campaigning successfully in the 49er FX. She placed 5th at the World Championship 2024 in Lanzarote, and has a proven track record demonstrating exceptional skill and experience across multiple sailing classes, consistently achieving notable success and championships in various categories. In her youth career Annie was named Youth World Champion in 2016 and secured multiple first-place titles, including All Female Australian National, Australian Youth, New Zealand National and German National Champion in the same year. Lisa Darmanin represented the Australian Sailing Team from 2013-2023. She won a Silver Medal in the Nacra 17 class at the Rio 2016 Olympics and finished 5th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Throughout her career, Lisa has consistently delivered outstanding results at World Championships in the Nacra class. Between 2014 and 2020, she clinched a total of 4 World Championships medals. Lisa was awarded Australian Female Sailor of the Year in 2015, 2016, and 2020 and UNSWFemale Athlete of the Year in 2011, as well as the Ben Lexcen Scholarship from 2011 to 2013. Beyond her competitive pursuits, Lisa is a commentator and presenter for sailing on the international stage, sharing her insights and passion for the sport with a global audience

All change that improves the lives of working people is hard won, and more often than not, it is Unions and workers who are at the forefront of the fight for change. That was the case again last week in federal parliament, when the Albanese Labor government introduced its landmark Paid Domestic and Family Violence Leave legislation. For over a decade, Unions and advocates have been campaigning for this legislation which would see women and men who need to escape violent and abusive personal circumstances able to access paid leave in order to take action to protect themselves and their families. People will no longer be forced to make the dreadful choice between seeking shelter, visiting a doctor or going to the police and losing hours at work and the income that they need. In these crucial days and moments when they need help, they can seek it without being penalised. It is a change that will save lives. On today's podcast, Francis speaks with two people who have worked tirelessly on behalf of their members for this watershed legislation, the first of its kind anywhere in the world. Julia Angrisano is the National Secretary of the Financial Services Union (FSU). Lisa Darmanin is the branch Secretary for Victoria and Tasmania for the Australian Services Union (ASU). They're our guests this week. _____________________________________________________________ * You can now email us with your comments, story ideas, tip-offs, flip offs, and questions - otjpodcast@protonmail.com *On the Job is made by Australian Unions. I have the pleasure of introducing you to the final guest for season 2, Lisa Darmanin. Lisa is an Australian Sailor and two time Olympian, bringing home a SILVER medal at her debut Olympics. If that isn't impressive enough, Lisa is also passionate about protecting our oceans and supporting and empowering people, particularly women, to take up the wonderful sport of sailing. I loved having a chat with Lisa about everything from the family sport of sailing and competing with her cousin to how not getting the result you were after isn't a failure at all. I couldn't have asked for better chat to wrap up the interview aspect of the podcast for the year, so lets jump on in.

For Adventures Weekly on 1 August 2020 we were excited to take a look back at a series of Olympic journey interviews - given it is both one year until Tokyo 2020, and the time when we were all thinking that we would be following the action over there we thought it was a great fit! From post-London, to pre and post-Rio I was lucky to talk with athletes and coaches from a range of nations. Today we featured Australia, the UK, USA, and New Zealand! I also took a look back at the Australian Sailing Team Paralympic sailors. Hopefully we see sailing back in the Paralympics sooner rather than later! From all the way back to 2014, features interviews with Victor Kovalenko, Tom Burton, Lisa Darmanin, Jason Waterhouse, Hannah Mills, Saskia Clark, Stuart McNay, David Hughes, Peter Burling, Blair Tuke, Liesl Tesch MP, Daniel Fitzgibbon, Colin Harrison, Mat Belcher Will Ryan, Mathew Belcher, Will Ryan and many more!
Australian supermarkets have pushed the price of milk down to the point where it is now cheaper than bottled water. This has caused pressure through the supply chain. While we hear a lot about the farmers, we don't often hear about the workers in the milk and other dairy processing plants. What does this price pressure mean for the workers and theregional communities that rely on the industry? This week we speak to a dairy worker of 35 years and the lead organiser for the NUW's dairy division. We also speak with the ASU's Lisa Darmanin about the push by western Melbourne councils to privatise in-home aged care and what it means for both workers and their clients.

6 July 2014: So many adventures, and the weekend is just not enough time to squeeze them all in! Great to catch up with Australia's newest World Champs, Jesse Dobie and Adrian Fawcett, who took out the F16 Worlds in Newport last week. We managed to wake Jason Waterhouse up on the morning of his next regatta. He will be on the water with Lisa Darmanin on the Nacra this week, after wrapping up his first A Class regatta. Nic wore pink for the show to support for Stace Jackson, who is part of the bow team for Team SCA, the all-female Volvo Ocean Race team. It is less than 100 days until the race kicks off! The Sailor Girl played a clip from Match Cup Sweden 2009, five years to the day from when she took out the event with Katie Spithill on the helm, and Stacey Jackson on the bow, as well as Sam Boyd, Olivia Price and Jess Eastwell. Nic also played a few clips and filled us in on her weekend on the water!
