And (after an eternity)…we're back! Join us today as we take a closer look at the fascinating (and perhaps a bit messy) history of period garments. Not breeches and corsets à la Bridgerton period dress, but the development of things like menstrual belts, vaginal packs, early tampons, and the rise of reusable options like the mooncup and period pants/panties. We'll explore where these products came front, the cultural forces and taboos that shaped them, and how they've evolved in relation to changing societal attitudes toward menstruation. This ep I’m hanging out with 21-year-old pocket rocket and Aussie road racing prodigy Tara Morrison... and let me tell you, she ain't just riding motorcycles, she’s rewriting the books. Tara's the only female racer in all three national ASBK (Australian Super Bike Championship) classes, taking on the boys and carving up the track like an absolute legend. From her first time knee-down in her mum’s leathers to breaking records (and bones), this girl's grit is next level. We chat about the sheer physicality of racing, what it's like being a woman in a male-dominated sport, and why falling hard only fuels her fire even more. You’ll hear about her track day evolution, what it takes to compete (a helluva lot), and how one epic win saw her cross the finish line ahead of the 40 blokes, fist in the air and history made. This one’s for anyone who knows that behind every win is a thousand sacrifices, and the ones who go hardest are usually the ones told they shouldn’t even be there. Financial markets overseas tumbled on Monday amid the economic fallout from President Trump's tariffs announcement last week. On Sunday, Mr. Trump stood by his trade policies as larger reciprocal tariffs on dozens of countries are set to go into effect later this week. CBS News business analyst Jill Schlesinger joins "CBS Mornings" to break down the global and U.S. market tumble amid President Trump's latest tariffs, how to financially protect yourself and what to know about the risks of a recession. Lori Vallow Daybell, the Idaho mother convicted of killing her children over her extreme religious beliefs, is talking about her next trial to KPHO, the CBS affiliate in Phoenix. She spoke from jail about going back to court to defend herself against charges of planning the murder of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow. A judge says that a man who was mistakenly deported to a notorious El Salvador prison over what prosecutors are calling an "administrative error" must be returned Monday. The White House is claiming the judge doesn't have jurisdiction. CBS News' Scott MacFarlane has the latest. UConn head coach Geno Auriemma reflects on the team's first NCAA championship since 2016 and his record-setting career as the winningest coach in Division I history. On Monday, Florida and Houston will face off in San Antonio for the men's NCAA championship game, bringing March Madness to an end. CBS sports contributor Jon Rothstein joins "CBS Mornings" to break down the matchup. Actor Walton Goggins talks about the season finale of the hit HBO series "The White Lotus." Season three follows the fate of the guests and staff at a luxury resort in Thailand. Goggins' character, a troubled man in search of answers about his father's mysterious past, is a major part of the finale, which aired Sunday. David Foster, the legendary music producer behind hits for Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, joins "CBS Mornings" to discuss his first Broadway musical, inspired by the classic cartoon character Betty Boop. Crude Conversations

In this one, Cody talks to dog musher Libby Riddles. She was the first woman to win the Iditarod. Back in 1985, she made the decision to push through a storm — a choice that would cement her place in history. While others hunkered down, she bet on her team's strength and her own resilience, forging ahead into whiteout conditions and brutal winds. It was a bold, calculated risk, and it paid off. But for Libby, just doing the Iditarod was a big deal. She says that as long as she did her best and gave it 100 percent, she really didn't care where the chips fell. And part of that was breaking the race down — not thinking about the entire 1,000 miles, but just getting to the next checkpoint. Manageable goals. That mindset, along with her deep connection to her dogs, helped her make history.  Her deep relationship with her dogs helped carry her to victory in the 1985 Iditarod, and in the years since, she's become an advocate for the sport, working to help people understand what dog mushing is really about. These days, it can be tricky for people to grasp— most of us see dogs as companions, not as athletes bred for endurance and work. But those who rely on working dogs, like service animals, tend to understand the dynamic better. And when people see sled dogs in action — on a dogsledding tour or in a race — they get it. They see the excitement, the energy, and the joy these dogs have for running, and they start to understand why mushing isn't just a sport, it's a way of life.

What an absolute honor it is today to have the first ever African American Rockette, the fabulous Jennifer Jones, here with me to talk about her new book Becoming Spectacular: The Rhythm of Resilience from the First African American Rockette, which comes out February 18. What a powerhouse woman Jennifer is. The Radio City Music Hall Rockettes had been in existence for 62 years in 1987, when Jennifer broke barriers and became the first African American Rockette. She made her debut with the Rockettes on January 31, 1988—which was also Super Bowl Sunday, which was in San Diego that year. Jennifer takes us inside that moment in today's conversation; she writes, poignantly, “Making history rarely feels like it in the moment.” Jennifer talks about the struggles she faced and her rock-bottom moments as she worked to achieve this dream; what it was like to be the first; dance and what it has meant to her life; what life as a Rockette was like—and Jennifer would know, as she was one for 15 years; her life after the Rockettes, including joining the cast of the acclaimed Broadway production of 42nd Street; her diagnosis with cancer and how she made it to the other side; and how, in her words from the book, “As I age, I feel more alive than ever.” Quick correction: I said in the episode that Jennifer was given five months to live; it was actually five years to live—but she beat the odds regardless. The Rockettes are an iconic dance troupe, but Jennifer is an iconic woman, and I know you're going to fall in love with her as I did in this conversation. She is a Tony Award-winning dancer, a staunch advocate for equal rights in the arts, and her work has been celebrated by the Harlem School of the Arts, Radio City Music Hall, and Madison Square Garden. She is a survivor of colon cancer, and she fiercely promotes early screenings. She's also written a children's book called On the Line, and there exists a Limited Edition Dancing Jenn Doll, which is reflective of her dedication to the arts. I am so thankful to now know her.Becoming Spectacular: The Rhythm of Resilience from the First African-American Rockette by Jennifer Jones

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is 101 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record. However, it appears he will not get the chance after head coach Nick Sirianni announced he would rest his starters in the regular-season finale against the Giants. On the latest episode of the No-Huddle Show, co-hosts Chris Franklin, Bob Brookover, and Cayden Steele discuss whether it was the right decision to sit Barkley, if the defense can be trusted in the playoffs, and the team's Pro Bowl selections. Send us a textIn this episode we explore the first transatlantic passenger flights of Pan Am's Boeing 314 flying boats in the late 1930s and we welcome back to the program Pan Am flight attendant and author Becky Sprecher who will share her insights -and family history– of these flying clippers!Becky was our guest in Episode 7: Flying the Line and Episode 29 AIDS Epidemic of the 1980s, Remembering Those We Lost. To learn more about Pan Am's flying boats, listen to Episode 3: Flying Boats, Irish Coffee, and a Hollywood Star and Episode 8: A Lifetime of Romantic Adventure... From Flying Boats to Jumbo Jets after listening to this installment. On March 29, 1939, the Yankee Clipper made history and took off from Baltimore to Europe under the command of Captain Harold Gray. On this inspection flight, the clipper traveled to the Azores, Lisbon, Marseilles, Southampton, and Foynes and back. On June 17, 1939, Pan American arranged for a special flight for 16 members of the press departing from Port Washington on the Atlantic Clipper; a brilliant marketing and public relations strategy for the airline. This press flight is historically and culturally significant because the radio reporters on board reported live at an altitude of 10,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean to listeners all over the country tuned into their radio sets with great interest. The cost for a one-way ticket to Europe was $375 (that's about $8,500 in 2024 money adjusted for inflation) or $675 roundtrip (which is over $15,000 today). There are no original Boeing 314 flying boats in existence today. However, the Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Foynes, Ireland ahs an impressive full-scale replica of the Yankee Clipper you can tour with every detail accurately recreated. The Records of Pan American World Airways Inc. are part of the Special Collections of the Richter Library of the University of Miami. Archaeology is the study of human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture. The archaeological record consists of artifacts, architecture, biofacts or ecofacts, sites, and cultural landscapes. Archaeology can be considered both a social science and a branch of the humanities. It is usually considered an independent academic discipline, but may also be classified as part of anthropology (in North America – the four-field approach), history or geography.Archaeologists study human prehistory and history, from the development of the first stone tools at Lomekwi in East Africa 3.3 million years ago up until recent decades.[5] Archaeology is distinct from palaeontology, which is the study of fossil remains. Archaeology is particularly important for learning about prehistoric societies, for which, by definition, there are no written records. Prehistory includes over 99% of the human past, from the Paleolithic until the advent of literacy in societies around the world.Archaeology has various goals, which range from understanding culture history to reconstructing past lifeways to documenting and explaining changes in human societies through time.[6] Derived from Greek, the term archaeology means "the study of ancient history".The discipline involves surveying, excavation, and eventually analysis of data collected, to learn more about the past. In broad scope, archaeology relies on cross-disciplinary research.Aleksandr KuzminCultural Landscape Archaeology Internship Yosemite, CaliforniaCompliance Archaeologist May 2024-August 2024● Acquired comprehensive knowledge in identifying and documenting prehistoric andhistorical artifacts● Utilized LiDAR technology to conduct 3D scans of archaeological landscapes and artifacts, contributing to precise site documentation, analysis, and preservation.● Conducted fieldwork involving sketch mapping, surveying, and performing shovel test pits● Gained hands-on experience in cultural resource management by completing CHRIS(Cultural Heritage Resource Inventory System) forms for archaeological sitedocumentation and reporting.● Proficient in using tools such as compasses, rangefinders, and measuring equipment forprecise data collection● Monitored construction sites alongside a tribal monitor to ensure compliance with culturalresource regulations● Educated 700+ visitors on traditional Native Practices in the Yosemite History Museum.● Trained in obsidian knapping techniques with Yosemite expertsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/earth-ancients--2790919/support.
