How Journaling Activates Your Brain for Resilience and Self-Regulation 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 108 ~ I've always expressed to clients, the importance and therapeutic benefit of writing as a practice for being able to process and understand an experience and to find answers and comfort in what is called expressive writing. When you write about your feelings, research from brain scans show us that the prefrontal cortex (the region of the brain responsible for reasoning) begins to synchronize with the amygdala (which is the region of the brain that processes emotions.) Journal writing is this tool that allows the brain to be able to both communicate and understand. Here I share the five forms of journaling together with what happens in the brain (and for you) as you experience their positive affects. Please reach out to me if you would like my help in using journaling as a tool for healing, for resilience and self-regulation. Namaste

The Possibility of Rejection 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 98 ~ My client described how being rejected by the person he was causally dating triggered him. Her rejection triggered feelings of anxiety, insecurity and distress at the thought of being alone ~ not having 'someone' to look to for love ~ and a sense of being needed and wanted and valuable. Many of us experience this dance of polarity. It is driven by our worse fears and the belief that we will not find someone to love us, and to provide a quick 'fix' for feeling unloved and undesired ~ even though this is furthest from the truth. The possibility of rejection is in what you make of what happens next. Of how you stand your ground in the moments of what this means and for looking distinctly at the circumstances before you with the question: How is this 'rejection' ~ going to help me? Ultimately what helped my client and what will help you ~ is to recognize when you feel triggered. To use self-regulation and cognitive re-framing - that is to tell yourself what is true rather than the old narratives that keep you hostage to that push-pull relationship, to being weak because you are relying on something external to yourself for how you want to feel - and for investing positive energy into yourself for this is how you feel remarkable. Allow Forgiveness to Be Your Teacher 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 93 ~ 'For giving yourself permission for the endless moments of your humanness.' Permission to go forward. Permission to make amends, to learn and not repeat the same behaviours. Permission to continue to do better. Forgiveness is about growing into a better, kinder, more compassionate being - each situation that is challenging becomes a new tapestry in which to hold yourself to the promises of what you are becoming. Your focus is to show up being love in each new moment and even when others falter ~ when they are not kind ~ when they are self-absorbed, emotionally unavailable, so very different than you ~ and as you witness them, tell themselves and others a story of what is not entirely true. You are going to witness others falter all of the time. 'For giving' is to accept others may or may not get it right in this lifetime. Your biggest job is to focus on yourself - for giving yourself the attention and the care that allows you to thrive, to be loving and kind because that is what you are here to do. ~ ~ Self-Love Mastery ~ Join me for a NEW 30 Day COURSE This is a very special and sacred course.
