The Edge of Reason 'What Are You Chasing If You Are Chasing Love? | 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 86 Love is given to us - by our caregivers and the formative relationships that we experience early in life. The missing piece, is the teaching that so many people never receive ~ that self-esteem and self-love are learned experiences that result from learning how to rely on our self for approval, for love and acceptance, for knowing that we are enough ~ we are more than enough. For all of the ways that we need to feel good, desirable, confident, empowered ~ we need to cultivate the root conditions that allow us to feel this when we need it, as we need it and frequently - and all based upon our own abilities and resolve. The goal is to appreciate when others compliment you - when others find you attractive, intelligent, wonderful ~ and yet to not be dependent upon external approval for feelings of worth, happiness, esteem and love. These are the teachings that I bring to life when working with clients who have lost themselves often in pursuit of love and approval when they have not yet found a way to rely on themselves more completely. - ~ Join me for a NEW 30 Day Masterclass: A Positive Mind

In this episode of the Pearls of Wisdom Podcast, recorded live at the Atlanta Jewelry Show, hosts Guy and Elesa sit down with longtime jeweler and industry supporter Evan Deutsch of Evan James Ltd. Diamond Jewelers & Goldsmiths. Having attended the show for more than 30 years, Evan offers a rare perspective on what makes this event a cornerstone of the jewelry community. Evan explains why the Atlanta Jewelry Show continues to thrive as one of the last nonprofit jewelry shows in the nation. He highlights its unique advantages—from affordable hotels and authentic Southern hospitality to the meaningful networking opportunities that larger, corporate-run shows simply can't match. For Evan, the value lies not just in the deals made, but in the trust and personal connections built over decades. Listeners will hear Evan's candid “mic-drop moments” on how the show remains successful despite rising costs and industry consolidation. He even shares why he often invests more here than in Las Vegas or New York, crediting the supportive environment created by both vendors and show staff. Beyond the business side, Evan also captures the vibrant culture that surrounds the show: $10 hot lunches, black-tie galas, and the chance to catch a Braves game just across the street. It's a blend of professionalism, hospitality, and fun that keeps him—and many others—coming back year after year. The Parenting You Need Now More than lip service to correcting your mistakes ~ this is living the promise of change that fosters healing and unparalleled growth. 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 81 How Do You Parent? Do you parent the way you were parented or do you reach for something better? The biggest takeaway from this episode is twofold: First who you are is how you will parent. Second, if we say all of the 'right' things after an explosive reaction - with good intentions to repair and resolve - have we? If your behaviour as a parent never changes - it becomes a tired expression of 'I'm sorry' I did this bad thing and I'll do better. However, your actions need to support your words or the repair you intended is really you giving lip service to what you know you should be doing differently. I want to address both of these areas - giving you the practical means for how to break a cycle in which you continue to do the same. Naming your inappropriate behaviour and apologizing is important. I'm so glad that we are hearing this message for parents from clinicians - however it is needing something more. Naming your mistakes the beginning. You then need to show up being different again and again. When you reach for real healing it is more than lip service because haling involves listening, feeling empathy and remorse and the clear understanding of how you hurt someone and what feels and looks like from their perspective. Your child may be able to articulate all of their experience and feelings but you can ask them to try. How did my reaction, my words, my hurtful behaviour impact you? How did it make you feel? When you recall this experience, what thoughts do you have about it? ~ Join me for a NEW 30 Day Masterclass: A Positive Mind
“A Principle with Promise”Doctrine and Covenants 89–92The Word of Wisdom Podcast for ChildrenWord of Wisdom Lesson for Kids From the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Come Follow Me Manual : In the School of the Prophets, the Prophet Joseph Smith taught the elders of Israel about building God's kingdom on earth. They discussed spiritual truths, prayed together, fasted, and prepared to preach the gospel. But there was something about the atmosphere that might seem odd to us today, and it didn't seem right to Emma Smith either. During the meetings, the men smoked and chewed tobacco, which wasn't unusual for the time, but it stained the wood floors black and left a strong odor in the air. Emma shared her concerns with Joseph, and Joseph asked the Lord. His response was a revelation that went far beyond smoke and tobacco stains. It gave the Saints, for generations to come, “a principle with promise”—promises of physical health, “wisdom,” and “great treasures of knowledge” (Doctrine and Covenants 89:3, 19).The Word of Wisdom helps me be healthy in body and spirit. The Word of Wisdom: The Lord's law of health. Elder Gary E. Stevenson counseled young people to plan in advance what they will do when tempted with alcohol or drugs. What Are Your Emotional Anchors? The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 78 Positive Emotional Anchors are a 'personalized strategy' and self-regulation tool. Or Maybe It Is You That Needs To Change 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 63 We are able to identify in someone else - in our partner, in a sibling, a parent, a friend - what needs to change - and we become focused on this and often to the exclusion of asking: What do I need to do differently? ~ Change is fuelled by a deep desire. As humans we often seek change in one of two ways: We are motivated out of a desire for self-improvement and to elevate our experiences and the way in which we live life because we believe that this improvement will benefit us - It will help us further our goals of self-actualization and happiness. Change is also largely motivated out of suffering and the desire to be free of what conditions are undesired. You are the co-creator of your life. If you are struggling in any of your relationships - with co-workers, friends, your boss, your direct reports, your partner, your children - point the proverbial finger first at yourself and ask: What am I doing here that is contributing to my suffering/ or to the problem as I see it? And then to ask, what do I need to do differently?
