Lorraine Hess was touring for her new album about glorifying God when she found out that her home had been severely damaged in a house fire. After returning home she felt drawn to Adoration. While there, she heard God ask her, “Can you glorify me while you are carrying a cross?” In this Easter podcast, hear how Lorraine was committed to glorifying God throughout the 20 months her family was displaced while fixing their home. God sharpened Lorraine to stay in gratitude and recognize how people were watching her living witness. Hear Lorraine sing about this experience in her song “A Heart That's Been Purified” at the end of the podcast, and learn more about her at lorrainehess.com.

Today's episode honors the many mothers that serve in the Church today. The women of this association lead in their churches, their communities, and their families, in whatever shape that takes. It is a true honor to take this week’s episode and celebrate the women of NPM, and the mothering role that so many of you take. Maybe you are a mother of your own children, or you offer a mothering role to those around you. Maybe you serve the church in religious life. Whatever it is, we so celebrate you today for Mother’s Day, and we thank you for the presence of Christ that you bring to all of us every day. Today on the podcast I speak with Meredith Augustin and Lorraine Hess. Meredith Augustin is the Director of Music at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in midtown Manhattan. Meredith is also collaborated with musicians all over the world and has released four solo records, appealing to fans of all genres, particularly jazz, world, and Christian music, and most importantly, the mother of two. Lorraine Hess is a Catholic singer, songwriter, music minister, and recording artist born and raised in New Orleans. She currently directs music ministry at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, has released six solo albums of liturgical and sacred music, and the mother of four sons. Eucharistic Adoration is a traditional Roman Catholic devotion that has experienced renewed attention and interest over the last decade or so. Parishes across the country now offer regular opportunities for adoration. College campus ministries, summer youth programs, and national conferences are adding opportunities for adoration, as well. So, for those of us in liturgical ministry, how are we to handle this devotional practice?Lorraine HessToday, we’ll hear a special workshop presentation from Msgr. Rick Hilgartner and singer/songwriter Lorraine Hess. Offered at this year’s NPM convention in Baltimore, Fr. Rick and Lorraine presented a workshop titled “Eucharistic Adoration: A Communal Invitation to Mission.” In their session, they offered historical, theological, liturgical, and musical suggestions for communities who wish to shape vibrant experiences of Adoration. They will also argue that Vatican II’s emphasis on the ecclesial and missional nature of all worship invites us to reimagine a reformed version of Adoration that will nourish a truly Eucharistic vision of Church.
