Learning to Be Still with God Psalm 46:10 “He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” This is no small feat.  “Be still and know that I am God.”  How difficult is it to be still?  I can't be the only person who struggles to just be still.  It seems like everything I listen to is talking about how important mediation is.  How much better you will feel if you meditate each morning before starting your day.  Have any of you tried this?  Have you ever just tried to sit there and not think of anything?  When I do this, I feel like my brain is a two-year-old child.  You know how you tell a child to do something, and they want to do anything other than that thing?  That is what my brain is like.  When I tell my brain that we are going to be still and not think of anything, it wants to do everything but that.   I will start to think of things I never thought of.  My brain will start making a grocery list, it will recite a song I haven't heard in 20 years, and question why I said that thing to that person three weeks ago.  It does everything except be quiet and not think of anything.  Has that ever happened to you?  Have you ever tried to quiet your mind and just sit with the Lord? The other day, at a discernment meeting, we were reviewing the words from our prayer group.  At least three separate words were given that talked about how important it is to just sit and be silent with the Lord.  That meeting was on a Wednesday, and now this verse comes up: “Be still and know that I am God.”  I think God wants me to talk about being still.  I think He really wants us to get the message.   Here is one of the words that was given at the prayer group. “My children, take time to listen to me.  Listen deeply, it is my time.  When you listen, I can help you, I can heal you.  I can enrich you through my presence.  But it is in silence that I speak to you in a new and better way.  But you must take the time, ever take the time to listen to my words, to let them absorb deeply, absorb them deeply into your being so that you will know how to proceed, so that you may know how to act upon the words that I tell you.  Be joyful that I speak to you.  Take the time to listen.”   Did you catch that?  God is telling us that when we take the time to listen to Him, He can help, heal, and enrich us.  How much do we need healing?  I feel like the whole world needs healing right now.  How great would it be for God to enrich us?  Could you use a little enrichment in your life?  I wonder how many of us take the time to listen?  How many of us set aside a part of our days to just sit and listen?  God says that it is in this silence that he talks to us in a new and better way.  How great would that be?  I am definitely on board for having my Heavenly Father talk to me in a new and better way.  I want to hear what He says and absorb His words deeply.  Who wouldn't want God's words to direct their way?   Who wouldn't want Him to help them know how to act? All of that sounds amazing.  Then I remember that I struggle to sit and be quiet.  God is asking us to listen, but what do we do when we can't listen, when we can't seem to quiet our minds? Then what do we do?  Do we miss out on all God has to say?  Do we miss out on his direction?  If He comes to us in the silence and heals us, then what happens when we don't make the time to be silent?  As I said earlier, this same word was given in at least three different ways in this one month.  I have no doubt that God can heal us anytime, anywhere.  He doesn't need anything from us to do His thing.  And yet, He took the time to give this message three different times.  I don't think He would have done this if it was not important.  So, what can we do with this message?   I think it is important to learn to be silent and to listen for His Word.  If your Heavenly Father tells you to do something, you do it.  Doing new things is hard.  Developing new habits is hard, and yet they are always worth it in the end.  There are many ways that you can learn to be silent and listen to the Lord.  I talked about one already.  You can sit still and try to clear your mind.  When something comes up that distracts you, just acknowledge it and try to clear your mind again.  You could start small.  Maybe just take 5 minutes a day and sit in silence.  You don't have to do anything.  It sounds like God just wants you to be available.   I think I get stuck because I am sitting there trying to quiet my mind and expecting to hear God's voice.  That is not really how it works, or at least hasn't worked that way for me.  It's not usually a voice its usually a thought that comes into my mind.   For instance, at the prayer group, I will tell the Lord that I am available if He wants to share anything with me.  Then a thought will come into my mind, and I will share it.  I don't question it. I told the Lord I was available, and so I trust that what comes to mind is something He wants shared.   Another way you could be silent and listen for God's word is to ask the Lord to speak through your pen, then sit quietly and write down whatever thoughts come to mind.  This is a particularly good way to quiet your mind and listen when you struggle to just sit still.  This helps keep you from distractions a little more because you are busy writing whatever comes to mind.  When I do this, I do not question what I am thinking; I just write it all down.  Again, I have asked God to talk through my pen, and I trust He is doing just that.   A really powerful way to sit with the Lord and quiet your mind is to go to Eucharistic Adoration.  This is when you are sitting in the presence of the Lord and quieting your mind.  If you have not tried this before, I suggest you give it a try.  It is such an amazing feeling.  Another helpful thing when you are trying to learn to quiet your mind and listen is to enter it with fewer expectations.  The only expectation necessary is that God will show up.  The rest of our expectations can actually get in the way of our experience.  If we expect that we will hear God's voice, that He will speak to us in our thoughts, or that we will feel His presence, we may be disappointed.  God said that it is in the silence that He heals us.  This can be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, or other forms of healing.  He also said He speaks to us in a new and better way.   Sometimes you may take the time to listen, and you don't feel anything happen.  You don't hear any words, get any new thoughts, or feel any healing.  You feel exactly the same as you did before you sat still with the Lord for 5 minutes.  This is totally normal.  Please don't worry that you did something wrong.  Trust that if you gave God the time, He showed up and did His thing.  The more you take the time to show up for God and quiet your mind, the more He will show up in that time.  You won't always feel it when He is healing you.  He may not always have something to say, but the more you practice listening, the better you will become at hearing Him.  Can you take 5 minutes today and quiet your mind and give God the space He wants to enter in and heal you? Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless all those listening to this episode today.  We ask that you help us to quiet our minds and listen to you, Lord.  We ask that you help us figure out how to make you a priority.  Help us set aside some time every day to quietly listen to you.  Help us to give you that time in silence so that you can enter in and heal us, oh Lord.  Lord Jesus, you are so amazing, and we are so grateful for all that you do.  We love you so much, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen! Witness Wednesday #203 Catherine D. (Retreat) Today, I want to share about how the Lord can sometimes work in our lives.  I went to a retreat in January with some of my big life mentoring sisters.  There were about 20 of us there. We spent the time doing cool things like running in the ocean first thing in the morning, dressing in 80s gear, and doing jazzercise at a local restaurant.  I had not met most of these people before.  Aside from the cool activities planned, we also spent some time talking about what was going on in our lives and where we wanted to be at the end of the year.  This wasn't easy, as many of us had never met, and sharing the intimate details of our lives was scary.  Although once people started sharing their stories, the strangest thing happened: we realized even though we were all very different, we were also the same in a lot of ways. It was a great experience. A month or so after the retreat, I was talking to one of my new friends from the retreat.  We were talking about our mentoring group and the various retreats our mentor Pamela Crim does, and my friend said she could see me doing something like that, mentoring and putting on retreats.  The seed was planted.  I was trying to figure out where to go with my business. I had thought about this type of thing before, but hearing someone else say she could see me doing it made it all seem a bit more real.  I tend to be a slow mover.  I get an idea, and I talk myself out of it for quite a while.  Do you ever do this?  You come up with an idea and then don't act on it because that inside voice tells you a million reasons why it won't work. One day, I was at Eucharistic Adoration when I felt the Holy Spirit telling me I needed to plan a retreat for that summer. So, of course, I obeyed and started planning right away, right?  Wrong.  I did what I always do when the Holy Spirit directs me.  I asked a bunch of questions.  Here are some of those questions: “This summer, are you sure?  The summer is just a few months away. Who will even come to this retreat?” I felt as if the Holy Spirit said, “You just book a place and time, and I will get the people there.”  “Ok, I said, but what about the theme of the retreat? What do you want us to do there?  What will I talk about?  Will I be the only speaker?”  Again, I felt I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Once you book the place, I will give you more details.” I really felt as if the Holy Spirit was wanting me to step out in faith.  I started calling retreat centers to see if anyone had availability this close to summer.  Most places did not, and the ones that did were too expensive.  I wasn't sure who would attend, but I knew I wanted to make it affordable for everyone.  The price was going to be at least $400 at the places I was finding.  I was getting frustrated and wanted to give up.  I felt the Holy Spirit prompt me to email my prayer group to see if any of them would want to go on a retreat and whether $400 was too expensive. I also asked if they even wanted a sleepover retreat.  Maybe I should just do a daytime retreat or a one-day retreat.  Many said yes to a retreat, most said stay over retreat, which I felt confirmed what I felt I was getting from the Holy Spirit.  A few said they could go if it were $400; however, many said it was too much.  Again, confirming my thoughts.  I decided to ask a few people if they knew any retreat places.   I am not sure how I happened upon the Holy Cross Retreat Center, and yet I am so glad I did! This retreat center was affordable, and the person I talked to was so nice.  They have many retreats there each year, and yet they are always the same type of retreat.  This fall will be the first time they open their doors to outside groups for retreats.  They do not have a minimum number of people I have to have.  They are completely redoing all the rooms with new paint, new beds, and new mattresses. They already redid the bathrooms, so by the time we get there, it will look like a whole new place. I was so excited that it was all coming together.  I was amazed at how the Holy Spirit led me to find the perfect place.  Now that it was really happening, I had to start thinking about the theme, who to invite, and how much it would cost.  Oh, that is another way the Holy Spirit was guiding the details.  The only weekend available, aside from Thanksgiving weekend, was October 6-8.  That is the same weekend our prayer group is starting a Life in the Spirit Seminar on Friday.  However, it is a long weekend, and many people may have Monday off.  So I did my retreat from Saturday to Monday instead of Friday to Sunday.  It all worked out perfectly. I knew the Holy Spirit would make sure those who needed this retreat could attend it.  My hope was that anyone who needed this retreat could come, even if they couldn't afford it.  I included a donation option on the registration page so that people who can't pay can still come.  I was able to have at least one person attend for free, and a few others I was able to pay for at least half of the cost. I was excited to watch it all unfold, and it was exciting to see what the Lord had planned.  I truly feel as though He poured His love out on His children.  I feel He filled them up with His love and also provided some inner healing.  I think the connection with other people who are also on this faith journey was important as well. I had 11 people attend, and it was an amazing weekend. “Could you not stay awake with me for one hour?”   On this Holy Thursday, we remember the gift of the Eucharist, the priesthood, and the call to serve.   But we're also invited into something deeply personal:   to spend time with Jesus.   In today's Rise Up reflection, Fr. Today I want to witness to you about a really cool experience I had with the Holy Spirit.  I was at a retreat, and I was new to going on retreats.  This was one of the first ones I went on.  I wasn't really sure what to expect.  I was also pretty new to Eucharistic Adoration.  I wasn't  sure what I was supposed to do during adoration.  I had heard people at the retreat say that they could feel the Holy Spirit at the retreat.  I didn't know what they were talking about.  I wanted to feel the Holy Spirit, too.  When I went to Adoration, I asked God to help me feel the Holy Spirit.  I asked Him if He could do something so I would know that the Holy Spirit was actually there with me.  I asked God this, and then I just sat for a few minutes and waited.  I sat expectantly waiting for something to happen, but not really knowing what would happen.  I closed my eyes, and a bright white dot of light appeared.  My eyes were closed, but I could see this bright dot of light dancing around, almost as if it were on the back of my eyelids.  I was afraid to open my eyes because I didn't want it to leave.  I knew this was the answer to my prayers.  I knew that light was the Holy Spirit showing me that He was there with me.  I can't really explain how I knew; I just knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was the Holy Spirit.  This happened about 10 years ago.  I have thought about it since then, but not too often.  Last Thursday night, I was at a Conference put on by Encounter Ministries.  It was an amazing conference, and the Holy Spirit was definitely there.  There was a time on Thursday evening when we had a talk about the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  We had prayed, we worshiped, and then we called the Holy Spirit to come down upon all of us.  When I was sitting in the pew, I closed my eyes, and instead of seeing a bright white dot of light, my whole vision was filled with that same blinding light.  I felt like my body was full of that light. The Holy Spirit reminded me of that time back at that first retreat, and I felt as though He was telling me, " See how far we have come.  I started as a small light inside of you, and my light is filling you up.  It was such an amazing feeling.  I was filled with so much joy, and love.   The other time I wanted to talk with you about today is when the Holy Spirit asked me to step way outside of my comfort zone.  I am an extrovert.  I love to be around people.  Being around people fills my soul with joy.  At the same time, I am shy.  I do not like to walk up to people I don't know and talk to them.  I am always self-conscious and think, what if they reject me?  What if they don't want to talk to me? What if I am bothering them?  I get super nervous, and when I get nervous sometimes, oftentimes, I cry.  I am not sad, I am just so nervous I cry.  Then I feel dumb for crying, and so I cry more.  I don't know if some of you relate to this or not, but it is something that is true for me.  I decided about three or four years ago that I wanted to go on a retreat.  I hadn't been on one in a little while and I felt I needed it.  I looked online one day and found out there was a silent retreat the very next weekend.  I was so excited.  It felt like it was meant to be, as what are the odds that I would look right then and find one that was coming up so soon and was so close.  When I arrived, we had a quick meeting to meet the other people on the retreat and meet our advisors, and then we went silent.  The only time we could talk was at our meeting with the spiritual advisor we were assigned once or twice that weekend.   At this initial meeting, we all told why we were there and a little about ourselves.  There was a man there who was suffering from some illness, and if I remember correctly, they weren't sure what it was.  I think his wife was sick too.  I just remember feeling bad that he was sick.  Before going on this retreat, I had been to a life in the spirit seminar and had been attending a charismatic prayer group.  I had a baptism in the Holy Spirit, but at this point, I could not speak in tongues.  While I was out for a walk on the grounds, I was having a talk with God about how I couldn't speak in tongues.  I was explaining to God how I wanted this gift, I was open to it, and so I didn't understand why I hadn't received it yet.  Then I heard God say, well, not heard like heard His voice, but heard in my soul, “It's not me, it's you.” I instantly knew what God was saying.  I understood that He was saying He wasn't keeping me from receiving this gift; I was keeping myself from it because I didn't believe I was good enough to receive it.  I was thinking, "Why would He give the gift to me?" and He was saying, "Why wouldn't I?”  Once I realized I was the one holding myself back, I finally submitted and accepted that God wanted to give me this gift, even if I wasn't good enough for it.  We are worthy of the gifts of the Spirit not because of anything we have done, but we are worthy because of what Jesus did for us on the cross.  I went to the chapel at the retreat center, started praying, and received the gift of tongues.  I was so happy.  Later that night, I was reading a book, and I felt the Holy Spirit tell me I needed to pray for the guy who was sick.  I instantly answered with a no.  You know me, I don't just walk up to people and ask them if I can pray over them.  I know lots of people who do that, but I don't.  The Holy Spirit was not letting me off the hook.  I tried to explain that I couldn't talk; it was a silent retreat, and it just wasn't going to work.  But then the Holy Spirit reminded me we could talk after mass on Sunday, before we left.  Once I realized that the feeling I needed to pray over this man wasn't going away, I started to pray.  I explained to God, like He didn't already know, that I was really afraid to just go up to people and ask them if I could pray over them.  What if they said no? Then I would feel dumb, probably start to cry, and be embarrassed.  As you can imagine, God already knew this, so He wasn't swayed.  I explained to God that if He wanted me to do this, I would try, I really would, but He was going to have to give me some extraordinary courage, and He was going to have to arrange a meeting that was somewhat natural.  Meaning we would have to run into each other when it was appropriate.  For instance, I couldn't interrupt the mass to do it.  Writing this for you now, I can see how silly this sounds.  How silly it is for me to be telling God exactly what I need, like he doesn't already know, but this is what I did.   The next day was Sunday.  I went to church, and it was a weird feeling because I wanted to run into this man, and I didn't at the same time.  I really wanted to pray over him, but I didn't want the awkwardness of asking him. Also, I was new to praying over people, and I didn't want to screw it up.  I was walking down the hallway, and I saw the man.  It was the perfect setup, right?  I mean, with God orchestrating things, how could it not be?  So I went up to the man and asked if I could pray over him, or that is what I wish I had done.  But I didn't. I walked right past him, I walked into the restroom, and I had a little chat with God.  Ok, I am sorry.  I know that was the perfect chance, and I blew it.  I wanted to, but I just couldn't.  If you give me another chance, I will try again.  Later, after lunch, we were all getting ready to go, and I saw the man in a different hallway, and we were alone.  I said, “I know this may sound weird, but I really feel as if the Holy Spirit wants me to pray over you. He Is Series Day #8 Elohei Ma'uzzi (God of My Strength) Psalm 105:4 “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.” Today's name for the Lord is Elohei Ma'uzzi, which means God of My Strength. I thought this was a great one because I know a lot of people who could really use some strength right now.  When we are going through a difficult time, we can often turn to things other than the Lord for strength.  We might start having a drink when we get home from work, or after a busy day with the kids.  We figure that will give us just enough strength to get through the night until the kids go to bed, or it will relax us enough to forget about work.  However, oftentimes one drink turns into two or three, creating another problem.  Sometimes we turn to our friends and family for the strength we need.  However, they can only provide so much strength, as they are human and have a finite amount.  We also might try to rely on our own strength to get us through.  This is not enough.  We need to seek the Lord's strength. How can we seek the Lord's strength?  First and foremost, we can ask for it.  That may sound so simple, and it is, and yet so many of us forget to start there.  We look everywhere else first.  We get upset with the Lord for not giving us the strength we need, and yet we never asked for it in the first place.  God wants to help us.  He is ready and willing.  All He asks from us is for us to ask Him.  Yes, he knows you need help, and also, he is willing to let you try to fix it yourself if that is what you want to do.  Have you ever done this with your children, co-workers, or siblings?  You can see them struggling, and you know they need help, but you don't help them until they ask?  You give them the chance to figure it out on their own.  God does not do this to punish us, or because He doesn't care.  Quite the opposite, He does it because he cares.  He cares about what we want and need.  He cares about our growth, and we grow when we do difficult things.  However, He will step in as soon as we ask him to.   Another way we can seek his strength is by using the tools He gave us.  We can dig into His word and find strength in the scriptures.  We can also seek the various prayers He has given to us.  There are so many prayers out there.  You can say your own prayers or find ones for your specific needs.  Sometimes we don't know what to pray, especially if we are really upset.  Finding a prayer that someone else wrote and praying it can take a lot of the pressure off.  If you are struggling and you can't find the words to say, you can also just sit with the Lord. He doesn't need us to say the right thing. He just wants us to seek Him.  It says in Matthew 6:7, “When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.”  Our prayers don't have to be long and drawn out, they don't have to be perfect and eloquent, they don't have to be exact.  What God wants is for us to speak from the heart.   Another way we can seek strength from the Lord is to attend Mass or a church service.  Being part of a community is great because when you surround yourself with others who share your beliefs, you feel freer to be yourself.  You don't have to worry that people will mock you or persecute you for your beliefs.  You feel safe.  You have people who will speak God's truth into the lies that the enemy is telling you. Also, Mass is great because you get to worship God and participate in a sacrament.  Mass is the ultimate way to seek God because you actually receive Jesus, through communion, into your body. At church services, you get to hear the word of God, and then the pastor gives a sermon on that word to make it more personal to each and every one of us.  These sermons help us to take the word of God and apply it to our lives.  The sermons help us understand the Word of God more. Oftentimes at Mass, there is also praise and worship music, and that is another way to seek strength from the Lord. I have found so much strength from the Lord through the lyrics of these songs. I love to listen to praise and worship music.  If I think back to the one thing I have done consistently since I discovered praise music in 2011, it is listening to it often.  When I am really struggling, I will find a few songs that speak to what I am going through or to who God really is, and I will play them on repeat to remind me of the power I have through Christ, who strengthens me. (Phillipians 4:13) Another way to be filled up with strength by God is to just sit with the Lord.  At Catholic churches, you can go to something called Eucharistic Adoration.  This is the worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass. The Eucharistic Host is displayed in a monstrance on the altar so that all can see and pray in the presence of Christ.  The Eucharist contains the body and blood of Christ, and so when you are in Eucharistic Adoration, you are in the true presence of Christ.  Do you have to go to Adoration to spend time with God?  Absolutely not.  God is everywhere, He is all around us, and even inside of us in the form of the Holy Spirit.  If you want to spend time with the Lord, you can do this anywhere.  According to Jesus, it's good to go away from the crowd to pray.  In Matthew 6:6, it says, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”  The Bible also mentions several times that Jesus went off to the Mts. or elsewhere to be by himself to pray.  Whatever works for you is great.  Just spend time with the Lord.  When I sit with the Lord, I often write in my journal as if I were writing a letter to my Father in heaven, because it is difficult for me to sit in silence with Him.  Again, whatever works for you is perfect.  There are no rules to spending time with our heavenly Father; whatever feels right to you. I have mentioned five ways that we can seek strength from the Lord.  First, ask the Lord for His strength.  Second, use the tools He has given to us.  Third, attend Mass or a church service.  Fourth, listen to praise and worship music.  Fifth, spend time with the Lord, just the two of you. There are many other ways that you can seek strength from the Lord.  Try these ways and see which ones you like best.  One of the many things about God is that He knows we are all unique, and what works for one of us may not work for another.  I promise that if you turn to God and seek your strength from Him instead of from the world, He will give you more strength than you need.  I have seen people get through incredibly difficult, even impossible, situations because they relied on God rather than themselves or the world.  Lean in, God is waiting. Dear Elohei Ma'uzzi, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, help us turn to you for strength.  Help us to see that the world can't help us as much as you can.  Help us make good choices when seeking strength, and avoid bad habits we will have to fix later.  Lord, if anyone is turning to bad habits for their strength right now, I ask that you send the Holy Spirit to convict them of it and help them turn back to you.  Lord, you are the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.  You are the resurrection and the life.  We are so grateful for all that you do.  We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega Revelations 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Have you heard this description of the Lord before?  “I am the Alpha and the Omega.”  I feel as though I have heard that a lot.  I am not sure I knew what Alpha and Omega were before, though.  Did you know that Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet?  What God means when He says He is the Alpha and the Omega is that He is the beginning and the end. God is with us in the beginning, before we were even born. He will also be with us in the end.   One of the ladies from my prayer group mentioned that we can find comfort in this thought when we have aging relatives or friends.  Sometimes, when we have aging relatives, they require a lot of assistance.  We want to be with them to help them, and sometimes we just can't be with them all the time.  But we can rest assured that even when we can't be with them, God is with them.  He is probably better company anyway.   I remember when I was little, I always struggled with the thought that God was always there.  That with God, there is no beginning and end.  He was just always there.  Actually, if I think about it too much, I still struggle with this.  Then, yesterday, my friend Louise from the prayer group explained this in a way that made a lot of sense to me.  She said that we struggle with things like this because we are human and we think in very finite terms.  Our minds are limited, so we cannot understand everything about God.  He is not finite, and we can't try to make him fit into a box that our minds can comprehend.  He is a wonder in so many ways. I do take comfort in knowing that God was there at the beginning and He will be there at the end, and He is there every day in between.  We are never alone.  I am sure it does not always feel like this.  Some days we can feel God's presence more than others.  Why is that?  Why do we have some days when we know God is with us, and others when we feel He has abandoned us?  Those are two excellent questions.  Ones I am not sure I know the answer to, and yet ones I still wanted to ask because I think it is something we could all think about.  I think we would each have a different answer to these questions.   When I think about those questions, I wonder when I feel closest to God.  I think it is when I am praying or praising Him.  Actually, maybe more so when I am praising Him.  When I am listening to Christian music and singing along, I can feel God's presence.  I follow this woman on social media, whose name is Kristina Kuzmic.  She is really funny and does short videos about parenting and about being a woman.  They are very uplifting and encouraging.  They help you to know that parenting is hard for everyone and that you are perfect just the way you are.  Anyway, she dances all the time.  Just walking down the street, she will be dancing.  I used to wonder why.  However, I've discovered I feel the same way when I am listening to praise music.   There is a free playlist on Spotify called Big Life Mornings.  It is filled with upbeat Christian songs.  I listen when I go for a run, when I walk my dog, when I drive, or when I clean.  I listen to it a lot.  When I listen to it and sing along, I feel as though God is with me.  I can feel His presence, and it makes me want to dance, too.  I am not sure I am describing the feeling correctly, but it is truly amazing.  If you feel like God has abandoned you and haven't felt His presence in a while, maybe take some time today to play some Christian music and see how you feel.  See if Jesus fills your soul.   Another time I feel the Lord's presence is in Eucharistic Adoration.  If you are a Christian and not Catholic, you may not know what this is.  We, as Catholics, believe that Jesus Christ is present in the Eucharist.  Eucharistic Adoration is when the priest displays the host or eucharist in a vessel called a monstrance.  The monstrance is placed on the altar or a table and is left there for a certain period of time.  We get to go and sit with Jesus and pray in His actual presence.  I know that God is with us all the time.  We do not need to go to adoration to be with Jesus.  However, I find I do feel closer when I go.  I am not sure how to describe it, other than comparing it to when you go to a grave site to visit someone who has passed away.  You do not need to be at the grave site to talk to that person, but somehow, being there, where their body is buried, makes you feel closer. If you are Catholic and have never tried going to adoration, I would urge you to give it a try.  Find out where it is located and go once a week for a month, and see how much it changes your life.  I try to go for an hour, but even 10 minutes could make a difference.  Just go sit with the Lord.  I think you will definitely feel closer to Him.  You don't have to do anything specific at Adoration.  The point of it is just to spend time with Him.  Even if you are not Catholic, you could give Eucharistic Adoration a try.  Most churches have adoration for at least a few hours a week, and I think there is perpetual adoration, meaning 24 hours a day, every day, in every state.  When I was looking, I just googled Eucharistic Adoration near me.  I am sure the Lord will do the rest. As I said above, if we each took the time to ask ourselves, “When do I feel closest to the Lord?” then I think we would probably all come up with different answers.  I wanted to share two things I do to feel closer to the Lord with you.  You may be different.  You may not like music or sitting in church with the Lord.  You may feel closest to the Lord when you are out in nature, painting or writing, or maybe when you are with family.  It doesn't matter what the answer to the question is; what matters is that you ask yourself the question and then pay attention to the answer.   If we are conscious about where we feel closest to God, then when we start to feel abandoned or wonder “Where is God?” we can go to that place or do that thing, and it may help us to feel Him again.   Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless everyone listening to this episode today. I ask that you allow each and every one of us to feel your presence today. We ask that you just let us know that you're here. We ask that you help us answer this question: When do I feel closest to you? Lord, we want to feel your presence at all times. It is especially important when we're going through difficult times, and we wonder where you are. Lord Jesus, help us to see where you are in our lives. Help us to know the things that bring us closer to you and also the things that separate us from you. Lord, we love you so very much. You are so amazing. We're so thankful that you are the Alpha and the Omega. We're thankful that you were there at the beginning, that you'll be there at the end, and every day in between.  Lord, it brings us so much comfort to know that you are always there. Also, to know you are always with our family members and friends, and that when we can't be with them, you are. We thank you for always being there, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, amen. (15:52) Linda - I've been doing adoration over 15 years. I started when God hit me on the side of the head and had me change my attitude about it. We have 24/7 adoration. I always said I was too busy. Started as sub. God said how bout you start fitting your life into mine. It's the highlight of my life now. (20:30) Break 1 Rick - Question - Whether doing adoration on the internet is the same as doing it in church. (25:10) Kristle - When I was starting with adoration, I took early morning, late hours, etc. It's easier because when you'd be sleeping, instead, you're spending an hour with Jesus. (32:47) Mary - I used to go to adoration and I loved it. Now, when you go in, they give you a pamphlet and you have to follow their routine. I'm not comfortable with that. Is that legitimate? (36:54) Break 2 Deacon Gerald - I have a grandson who is a priest with Opus Angelorum. They promote prayer with your angel....one thing they do is adoration from 9p-12a. They're imitating the angels who consoled Christ when he was in the garden. They pray for priests who are spiritually asleep. They also do this at their retreats. (42:05) Jan - As a cradle Catholic, I have difficulties. I don't know whether to have a Bible or prayer book with me, or do I just sit in silence and wait to the Lord to speak to me? I haven't gotten that perfect solution. What do I do? How does Adoration strengthen families, marriages and vocations?
