There is a big difference between being physically present to our children and giving our children our presence. But life is crazy, busy, and often distracting. Yet, Jesus himself who came to quite literally save the world showed us the importance and power of spending quality time with those we love. Have an episode idea you want to hear about? You've heard that communication is essential for a healthy marriage, but it's also absolutely essential for a healthy family. In today's episode, I'm walking you through the six communication rules we use in the Brown family to help reduce misunderstandings, strengthen emotional connection, and stop wasting precious time and energy on hurt feelings. These rules have helped us build trust, keep our hearts soft, and truly listen to one another, even when big feelings are involved. And these rules aren't just what I use with my kids as their mother. It's how my husband and I interact, too, which has created a vibrant and fun marriage that we both enjoy! But you know what my favorite part about using these rules as a family? Now that we've been practicing them as a family, the kids use these rules amongst themselves now, too! I'm super excited to share them with you today! Grab your earbuds and join me for: The Six Brown Family Rules of Communication. Join Happy, Holy Mama and get ready for Summer Lovin' HERE!

Y'all, this was such a treat of a conversation for me. I sat down with Heidi Bratton this week to discuss how God calls us to a kindness that beautifully expresses our maternal love. Yet, as Heidi so beautifully writes in her She Loved letter - we often fall into the trap of believing the lie that we must decide between efficiency OR kindness when living out our maternity. But what if kindness is always the answer, regardless of whether or not we tend to the duties of the day with efficiency. I hope this conversation blesses you as it blessed me!Check out all things Heidi here!Heidi on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B001HPDO00?ccs_id=f9c10b18-aada-4b85-a00d-46f64a238e28Heidi's Photography"https://www.somethingbeautifulphotography.com/Have an episode idea you want to hear about? When Jared Geesey was a boy, he remembers his Sunday School teacher telling him that faith wouldn't just happen because he was the son of a pastor. Of the over 600+ Jewish laws at the time, Jesus revealed the two great commandments. The first commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. The second commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. In this episode, we discuss the great calling to be contemplatives and evangelists simultaneously. In his profound revelation of the two great commandments, Jesus reveals to us the importance of communing with and loving the Lord interiorly, which then leads us to and perfects our capacity to love others exteriorly. In Happy, Holy Mama this week we are diving into the concept of becoming happier through learning how to suffer well. And when I was thinking about what I wanted to share on the podcast to support my students in that process, I couldn't stop thinking about an episode I released last year for the 20th anniversary of my first husband's passing. I had already experienced quite a bit of suffering in my life prior to becoming a 20 year old widow, but that experience took what I thought I knew about suffering to an entirely new level. It also showed me what I was capable of. And more importantly, it showed me what God is capable of through my fidelity to unifying my will to His will for my life, regardless of how difficult the circumstances might be. This skill is vital for our happiness, not just in eternity, but right now in this life that God is knitting together for us, with our cooperation, moment by moment. I am honored to share my experience, knowledge, and training as a life coach with my students in the program to teach them how to do this for themselves on a daily basis! And I am honored to share my story again with you here today, as we go into Holy Week and suffer with Christ on calvary, in our day-to-day lives. Please grab your earbuds and join me for this most valuable podcast episode: MVP Blessed Be God: A Reflection on Loss, Suffering, and God's Will. CLICK HERE to join us in Happy, Holy Mama TODAY to learn how to unite your own daily suffering to Christ's redemptive suffering and fall more deeply in love with your life as it is right now.
ShownotesWe've spoken about saints frequently here on the podcast and most recently had a conversation with Belinda Terro Mooney about how powerful the saints are especially on their feast days. From Saint Blaise who is known for curing throats to Carlo Acutis, also known as the digital saint, we've learned there's a saint for just about everything. But how do we even find out about these saints? Is it through our own personal struggles and a quick Google search? Or do these saints somehow find us just when they know we need them the most? "Quitting the Christian Life. It's Too Hard...." This is the title of a YouTube video Roxie Beckles, "That Black Catholic Chick" filmed a year ago. Roxie awakened in the very early morning hours and was having a "dark night of the soul." Roxie's depth of vulnerability about her personal struggle with the demands of an authentic Christian life was untouched before Roxie pushed "publish." The video has over 30K views. There is no mistaking that Roxie knows suffering. In this Lenten podcast, Roxie revisits where she was at a year ago when she filmed this video. She then takes a deep dive into what she has learned from God ever since. We can't be lukewarm in our Catholic faith--we must make a complete surrender and be "all in." This includes sharing barrenly about our struggles with our faith and wrestling close to Christ. Roxie encourages listeners with this: If you aren't wrestling in some way with your faith, you need to go deeper this Lent. You can find Roxie on YouTube @thatblackcatholicchick or @TheologyOfFitness, as well as at https://www.roxiebeckles.com.

“You're going to stay in this marriage.” This was the message Nicole Berlucchi heard from God. Before this, Nicole was convinced she was doing most of the work at home and in her marriage. Her friends told her she was a “saint” for putting up with her husband. To top it off, Nicole's husband was unwilling to go to therapy. Nicole was sure God was on her side. Nicole left her husband for four days to discern if she was going to leave him. While Nicole entered this time of discernment relatively certain she was headed for divorce, God made it clear that Nicole needed to change and give her marriage a chance. Nicole engaged in a very difficult season of healing that resulted in the transformation of her heart and marriage. Listen to this mini-retreat in a podcast in Mamas in Spirit's Lenten Series: HEAL. Allow God to help you remove barriers to love and be loved. Nicole Berlucchi is the author of “Magnify Love: Unlocking the Heart of Jesus in Your Marriage and Your Life.”

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord." 1 Peter 4:10-11 . This week, I discuss the calling of ministry work. We have all been gifted with various charisms to love and serve the church. But in our obedience to the Holy Spirit, we must remember that he will never call us to serve at the cost of loving our first ministry, that which is loving the people in our homes. “Healing happens organically as love is being expressed,” says Dr. Bob Schuchts of the John Paul II Healing Center In this mini-retreat in a podcast, Dr. Bob shares how important it is to listen and be attentive to what spiritual practices the Holy Spirit is drawing you to this Lent--so the Divine Physician can bless you with healing. As we look at our patterns of sin and chronic wounds we have carried with us for a long time, we must remember God sees us in our wholeness. And remember that we cannot fix our own brokenness; however, we can name it and bring it to Jesus for healing. Dr. Bob shares stories, including when he had a panic attack and realized his own need for healing. As Dr. Bob engaged in the healing process, he learned that beneath his anxiety was abandonment from his parents' divorce. The pain in his heart began to heal through the love of God and he forgave his parents. Healing is a life-long journey that we all need to engage in. Pope Benedict XVI said, “Whoever truly wishes to heal man must see him in his wholeness and must know that his ultimate healing can only be God's love.” May we bring all of ourselves to God this Lent, to discover the healing touch of The One who loves us completely. Connecting with our children is one of the greatest desires of every momma. So, I wanted to explore the areas of everyday life that offer opportunities to pour into our children's hearts. This week I am joined by counselor, scientist, teacher, mother, and author, Dr. Deborah MacNamara. We discuss her latest book, "Nourished: Connection, Food, and Caring for our children (and everyone else we love)," and explore the truth that nourishing our children goes far beyond what is put on their plate. Over the course of my careers as a wife, mother, homeschooler, and life coach there is one feeling that I have seen be a bigger plague on the happiness and holiness in a family more than any other. The feeling of being ‘not enough.' Of not having enough. Of not being capable enough in one way or another. This ‘not enoughness,' or lack (scarcity is another way we talk about it in coaching), infects our marriages, disconnects our relationships with our kids, and distracts our homeschooling efforts. And none of it comes from God. As I reflected on what I wanted to share with the members of Happy, Holy Mama this Lent, God placed this ‘not enoughness' at the forefront of my mind and heart. He wants to heal that ‘not enoughness' if you'll let Him. But it does take a bit of work on your part to be open to the healing He wants to offer you. In today's podcast episode I talk about the seven things you need to have to allow that healing to happen, all of which will lead you to the #1 thing the saints tell us will make us happier and holier than anything else in the world. I am Praising Jesus today for the gift of journeying alongside you all for four years and 200 episodes. In this episode, I dive into my word of the year "Rooted." What are you rooted to in your life? Is it the expectations of peers, your performance at work, your iPhone, your cup of coffee, or perhaps even your holy desire to love others well?!? What if we were never meant to be rooted in anything but Christ himself? Let the Lord reveal places in your story where your heart has been uprooted from Christ - places where the deep watering of his love has yet to be received because the wounds, trauma, fears, and shame have left you turned away and drying out. This is an invitation this week to let the Lord re-root your heart and call you closer to him so that the only thing you remain tethered to is the love of God. Has a friend hurt you or left you out? Dr. Mary Ruth Hackett was just about to leave for a party hosted by a dear friend when she received a text—Mary Ruth's friend asked her to come a little later, because she was running behind. Mary Ruth pulled up social media to pass time and was surprised to see a live photo posted by her friend. The image showed the host and many of Mary Ruth's friends gathered around her friend's table eating dinner. It turned out that the party was already in full swing. In reality, Mary Ruth realized she was on the B List and was the only one of all her friends to be invited to the “after party.” Mary Ruth was crushed. Yet, while incredibly difficult, Mary Ruth chose to dig deep into this experience to better understand herself, her friendships and God's hopes for her. In this Advent Podcast Mary Ruth shares the wisdom she learned about sisterhood in Christ and the healing grace of God. Learn how God blessed Mary Ruth with a new heart to love and friendships deeply rooted in Christ. Discover how you can receive the beautiful gift of sisterhood in Christ, too!

During this time, God revealed to O'Maria her personal mission: to help women become “Godfident” in their God-given beauty. Listen to O'Maria's personal story of conversion--and discover how God is calling you to embrace your God-given beauty, too!
