“The Hope For Peace and Restoration of A Broken World is in Jesus Alone.” -John 20:19-31
What does it really mean to “love your neighbor as yourself”? It's one of the most quoted phrases in the Bible—used in politics, on social media, and in personal conversations. But are we quoting Jesus accurately? In this sermon, we dig into Matthew 22:34–40 to explore what Jesus truly meant when He linked loving your neighbor with loving God.You'll learn:- Why “love your neighbor” isn't the first thing Jesus said—and why that matters.- How putting your neighbor before God can lead to compromise.- What real love looks like in tough situations—when someone's asking you to support something you know isn't right.- How Jesus reframes love in the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10).Discover why the order of your loves determines the shape of your life, and how keeping God as your first love transforms the way you care for the people around you.

Ecclesiastes 7:1-29 ESV A good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death than the day of birth. It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for by sadness of face the heart is made glad. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the wise than to hear the song of fools. For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fools; this also is vanity. Surely oppression drives the wise into madness, and a bribe corrupts the heart. Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools. Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. Wisdom is good with an inheritance, an advantage to those who see the sun. For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it. Consider the work of God: who can make straight what he has made crooked? In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him. In my vain life I have seen everything. There is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his evildoing. Be not overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself? Be not overly wicked, neither be a fool. Why should you die before your time? It is good that you should take hold of this, and from that withhold not your hand, for the one who fears God shall come out from both of them. Wisdom gives strength to the wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city. Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins. Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others. All this I have tested by wisdom. I said, “I will be wise,” but it was far from me. That which has been is far off, and deep, very deep; who can find it out? I turned my heart to know and to search out and to seek wisdom and the scheme of things, and to know the wickedness of folly and the foolishness that is madness. And I find something more bitter than death: the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and whose hands are fetters. He who pleases God escapes her, but the sinner is taken by her. Behold, this is what I found, says the Preacher, while adding one thing to another to find the scheme of things— which my soul has sought repeatedly, but I have not found. One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found. See, this alone I found, that God made man upright, but they have sought out many schemes.

Preaching for the Second Sunday of Easter, Marissa Papula offers a reflection on the convergence of trauma, hope, and mercy: "On this Divine Mercy Sunday, as we fumble for Easter hope in a broken world, as the wounded Christ reveals himself among us in the joy of the Resurrection, as we brave the coalescence of our lived experiences of hurt and hope, may we meet one another with such coherent mercy, bearing witness, standing in awe, announcing, beholding, embodying, 'Peace be with you.'"Marissa Papula is a leader, storyteller, and practitioner of cura personalis who believes in the power of faith to embolden imagination, ignite social change, and transform lives. She currently serves as Director of Campus Ministry at Loyola Marymount University. Fools are in charge. The wise are ignored. The lazy get ahead. The hardworking are overlooked. Ever feel like the world is completely upside down? You're not imagining it—Solomon saw it, too. Welcome to The Daily, where we go through the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. Today, we're looking at Ecclesiastes 10:5-7: There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, as it were an error proceeding from the ruler: folly is set in many high places, and the rich sit in a low place. I have seen slaves on horses, and princes walking on the ground like slaves. — Ecclesiastes 10:5-7 Solomon calls out a harsh reality—leadership often fails. The wrong people rise to power, while those with wisdom and integrity are pushed aside. Those who should be leading walk on foot, while those unworthy ride high. Sound familiar? We see it everywhere. Corruption, incompetence, and arrogance seem to win. Loud voices drown out truth. Hard work and wisdom take a backseat to shortcuts and self-promotion. But should we be surprised? A broken world rewards the wrong things. So, how do we live in an upside-down world without losing heart? How do we stay faithful when foolishness is celebrated and righteousness is ignored? Three things to remember: ⚡️ Prepare for Poor Leadership – People and the systems they build are flawed. Instead of being shocked, be steadfast (1 Tim. 2:1-2). ⚡️ Persevere in Personal Integrity – We may not control who gets promoted, but we can control how we live (Col. 3:23). ⚡️ Put Trust in our Preeminent King – The world's chaos is temporary. Jesus will set all things right (Rev 21:5). Stay firm, stay faithful, and stand for what's right—no matter how upside-down the world seems. #WisdomOverFolly, #GodsKingdomPrevails, #FaithOverFrustration ASK THIS: When have you felt overlooked despite doing the right thing? How can you guard your heart against bitterness in an unjust world? What habits help you stay steadfast in personal integrity? How does trusting in Christ's ultimate justice change your perspective on today's leadership failures? DO THIS: Stay faithful in your integrity, even when the world seems to reward the wrong things—God sees and honors your perseverance. PRAY THIS: Lord, when the world seems upside-down, help me to remain steadfast in wisdom and integrity. Remind me that Your justice is sure, and Your kingdom will set all things right. Amen. PLAY THIS: Fool's Gold.

The Thessalonians were surrounded by unbelievers who gave their bodies over to “the passion of lust.” They lived their lives in the darkness. But Paul told the Christians that God's will for them was their “sanctification,” telling them to “control [their] own body in holiness and honor.” They were to live as, “children of light, children of day.” […]

Mendocino College Theater will present "Mendocino Stories: Instructions for Living in a Broken World" over the next two weekends, beginning Thursday, March 13, at the Mendocino College Center Theater on the Ukiah campus.
Tobias Noack | Gen 30:25 – 31:55
Do you ever feel like the world is broken? Maybe you're even trying to fix it. Scrambling to comfort yourself, rushing to escape painful situations—to bring chaos into order. How's it working for you? It doesn't ever work for me when I make that attempt. But, the Bible says, a day is coming when all wrong things will be undone. The famous writer C.S. Lewis talks about it this way, “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” You can live with this hope by putting your faith in Jesus—that the unbroken world you were made for, full of harmony and meaning, will one day be your reality. You don't have to wait to experience the new life that Jesus offers. Jesus came into the world that He created and gave His own life to repair our relationship with God. He is offering you that new life today. Will you receive it? The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. At its essence leadership is a question of vision and vision at its heart is a matter of creativity. Although not always comfortable being in charge of an operations means finding an answer no matter what. Great leaders do this in extraordinary ways. But getting to the heart of how to innovate and find new answers means getting to the heart of the human person and their freedom and this is why it's important to talk about the power of grace to create new ideas and innovation. This is part 4 of our series on Leaders In A Broken World.
If you want to change culture, you begin by changing language. The enemies of the gospel know this all too well. They've been cunningly at work redefining our most fundamental words, embedding them in our institutions and school curriculum, all to transform society to reflect their harmful, anti-Christian beliefs. As followers of Jesus Christ, how should we respond? By clearly knowing and defending the true biblical definitions of at least ten critical words: truth, human, sex, marriage, freedom, justice, authority, faith, beauty, and love. If we long to see a revival in the church and a reformation of culture, we must recover the true definition of these ten foundational words. Listen in as Dr. Jeff and Scott Allen, author of 10 Words to Heal Our Broken World: Restoring the Meaning of Our Most Important Words, discuss these fundamental words that are being challenged. In this episode, Dr. David Congdon joins me to discuss Rudolf Bultmann and his Advent preaching. He is infamous for his “demythologizing” approach to scripture, which seeks to uncover the true meaning behind the biblical narratives. Bultmann's Advent sermons strip away sentimentalism, presenting the Incarnation as a call to authentic existence.
