This episode Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Moritz, address a listener's question, and discuss as well the recent Orthodoxy and Education Conference.
Dr. Jenkins, author, host of Path to the Academy and Light through the Past podcasts, explores the corruption of the Universities, how they have not only left their foundations as Christian institutions, but actually worked to undermine their first principles, how this change has wrought devastation to Orthodox youth heading off to college, and what can be done to address the problem.
Dr. Jenkins drawing from his 40+ years as an educator, discusses ways to improve education at the parish level, from Sunday School to Catechism, employing methods available to any educator.
In her second talk, Laura E. Wolfe dives into why we must all be homeschoolers. Homeschooling is not just an 'alternative' for those opting out of our government schools, but a life that integrates the student into all aspects of the home, and not just slapping on some academic disciplines to daily chores.
Mrs. Hewitt, the Assistant Head of School at Claritas Classical Christian Academy, looks at the lost virtue of disciplining the memory as part of cultivating the soul. Taking inspiration from St. Augustin, Mrs. Hewitt shows the need isn't just for the verse here and there, but for long sections of literature and poetry.

Dr. Joshua Moritz of Chrysostom Academy tackles the nagging rumor that science and faith are two different systems that have nothing to do with each other, pointing out that most of the great scientists of centuries past were confessing Christians, and many of them Orthodox, whose faith was integral to their work.
Mrs. Wolfe, author, inter alia, of Sasha and the Dragon, and Patterns for Life, introduces us to the incredible world of Charlotte Mason, the late 19th - early 20th educator who saw the formation of the soul, and not just the creation of factory workers, as the true goal of education. Laura explores how this world fits into Orthodox paideia, and is so suitable for homeschoolers especially.

Matt Esterman is Director of Innovation & Partnerships, and history teacher, at Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta. An educational leader who's making things happen with AI in education in Australia, Matt created and ran the AI in Edcuation conference in Sydney in November 2023, where this interview with Dan and Ray was recorded. Part of Matt's role is to help his school on the journey to adopting and using generative AI. As an example, he spent time understanding the UNESCO AI Framework for education, and relating that to his own school. One of the interesting perspectives from Matt is the response to students using ChatGPT to write assignments and assessments - and the advice for teachers within his school on how to handle this well with them (which didn't involve changing their assessment policy!) "And so we didn't have to change our assessment policy. We didn't have to change our ICT acceptable use policy. We just apply the rules that should work no matter what. And just for the record, like I said, 99 percent of the students did the right thing anyway." This interview is full of common sense advice, and it's reassuring the hear the perspective of a leader, and school, that might be ahead on the journey. Follow Matt on Twitter and LinkedIn

Feedback & Shout Outs EdCamp New Jersey 2023 will take place on Sat., November 18, 2023. Learn more and register here. EdTech Thought Banning Cell Phones in K-12 Schools is Dumb Cell Phones are Essential Learning Tools Cell phones keep students connected, informed, and able to respond to emergencies. They enable access to educational apps, websites, and digital knowledge. When used responsibly, cell phones can be powerful learning aids for interactive polling, collaborative research, multimedia projects, and more. Banning Phones Assumes the Worst in Students Prohibiting cell phones shows a lack of trust in students and breeds resentment. It punishes all for the mistakes of a few. Students need to learn self-control and responsible technology use. Banning drives phone use underground. Schools Should Evolve with the Times The world is digital now. Students must learn to navigate this landscape. Banning phones does not help. Cell phones allow students to participate more actively in class, pursue passions, and connect learning to real-world issues. Work With Students, Not Against Them Set ground rules together for healthy phone use instead of an outright ban. Leverage technology to create an engaging, relevant learning experience. Partner with students to unlock the academic potential of cell phones. Featured Content I attended the AI in Education Conference recently and I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Robert Zywicky, Dr. Richard Tomko, and Stanley Buchesky about the future of AI in K12 schools and the need for moving AI forward now and in 2024. The shooters who precipitated MLG's anti-gun health order were captured. They have (not surprisingly) been involved with the criminal justice system in the past and were not likely to be deterred by MLG's anti-gun orders. A MLG-appointed New Mexico district judge rules that the homeless can't be removed from public spaces. How will MLG's potential EV mandate actually be enforced? Paul has a detailed answer. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland's daughter has close ties to the Cuban government. This is especially concerning because hostile foreign nations have a long track record of supporting anti-energy forces in the US. Our op-ed on MLG's gun order and her long-standing disdain for "democracy" ran statewide.
Mike shares his thoughts coming out of the Smithsonian Institution's National Education Summit that was recently held in Washington, DC. We hear what it's like to bring a 4-year-old to an education conference and learn more about the Palm Court Podcast whose launch is coinciding with the release of this episode! We reflect back on Dr. Monique Chism's previous appearance on Trending in Ed before diving into three key sessions from this year's summit. Mike talks about the tradeoffs of blending a family getaway with an education summit built around the theme of Together We Thrive: Fostering A Sense of Belonging. We hear what Secretary of the Smithsonian Lonnie Bunch had to say on his panel and learn of Mike's family's experience at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which Secretary Bunch played a key role in establishing. Then we reflect on the work of National Teacher of the Year Rebeckah Peterson and how her concept of "one good thing" contains lessons both for educators and for the rest of us. We conclude with thoughts on Dr. Pamela Cantor's keynote on the neurochemistry of belonging as we process lessons learned from the conference and from family travel in the summer. Mike concludes with some thoughts on the launch of the Palm Court Podcast which is a new dedicated feed focused on New College of Florida, his alma mater, that has been thrust into the national spotlight as our culture wars are now on campus. FORT WORTH, TEXAS—Death records of Americans and their vaccination status must be released to the public in order to end the “ambiguity” that surrounds the safety of COVID-19 vaccines, said Steve Kirsch, the country's top independent vaccine investigator. “If it's really safe and effective, why would [the government] keep that data hidden? Why wouldn't they produce that data and say, ‘See? We were right.'” The ambiguity lies in the fact that mainstream scientists, the FDA, and the CDC are in lockstep with a narrative that mRNA vaccines are safe—despite the mounting evidence saying otherwise. And because of this narrative, citizen journalists like Kirsch have been labeled by the mainstream media as “misinformation superspreaders.” His Substack—where he posts his research—has over 220,000 followers. And in 2022, Kirsch learned that his Substack had been blocked at the CDC for being “unsafe.” “We all want to end the misinformation. We just disagree on who is saying the misinformation. We think it's the CDC and the FDA, and they think it's us,” Kirsch said on Frontline Health. “Well, let's have a discussion. But you see, we can't do that, because they never show up.” We spoke with Steve Kirsch at the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) second Education Conference. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV
FORT WORTH, TEXAS—A top U.S. hospital has a study in pre-print that shows the more COVID-19 shots their employees get, the higher their chance is of catching COVID-19 itself. The Cleveland Clinic is the world's largest network of hospitals and outpatient facilities. “When a study comes out of Cleveland Clinic, people take it very seriously,” said Steve Kirsch on Frontline Health. Kirsch is a tech entrepreneur, inventor of the optical mouse and founder of the Vaccine Safety Research Foundation. “The bottom line here is that if the medical community was honest, they need to now reverse the mandates,” he said. “And by reverse mandates, I mean that every hospital in the world should now say, if you got the vaccine, you're fired.” The logic here is that if the vaccinated healthcare workers are more vulnerable to catching COVID-19, they pose a greater risk to patients. And since the U.S. is still in a state of emergency, Kirsch says that the hospitals need to stay consistent and protect their patients. “They need to then rehire the [unvaccinated] people that they fired,” he said. We spoke with Kirsch at the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) second Education Conference. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV
