When it comes to true ‘all-mountain' skiing, Marcus Caston probably has the nicest turn in the game. He's also got one of our favorite video series, Return of the Turn, which if you call yourself a skier, you need to watch. A new episode just dropped today, so in honor of the occasion, Marcus and I talked about the latest episode; the series itself; coaching; why people think he is from the East Coast; and we go over some Best / Worst ideas for Return of the Turn episodes. Marcus Caston’s ski career started in the race world. His goal was the Olympics but he didn’t get close. When he didn't make the college team, he was over it... But skiing is all he knows. He got back into it through photography, which he parlayed into his first Warren Miller trip and his career takes off. Now, he’s on the other side of the lens and he’s become one of the most photographed and published skier of modern times. We all probably need more Caite Zeliff in our lives. (And if you didn’t already know this, you definitely need to listen to this conversation.) Caite is a former ski racer turned big mountain skier. She won the first ever Kings & Queens of Corbet’s competition in 2018, then won again in 2019, then was on the podium this past year. She’s filmed with Warren Miller and TGR, she is equally fun to ski with and to shoot the breeze with, and, while she’s already accomplished a lot, it still seems like Caite is just getting started. So we caught up with Caite on her birthday (our first birthday-edition podcast!) to discuss skiing; filming vs photo shoots; her best Marcus Caston story; her music and podcast recommendations; and we somehow got into food and astrology, too.TOPICS & TIMES:Quarantine & Healing Up (1:55)Kings & Queens of Corbet’s (9:53)On the pressure to perform (16:32)Trip to Engelberg, Switzerland (18:56) Your Best Marcus Caston story? Marcus Caston, Return of the Turn himself, discusses individualism in skiing and how to overcome the struggles of being a ski racer.
Utah native Marcus Caston has lost count of how many Warren Miller films he’s cameoed in (he thinks it’s six). Marcus is known for his impeccable hop-turns, sense of humor and the summer ski camp for kids up at Mt. Hood he co-founded. Uncover why he’s the peoples’ coffee lover, how taking a break from drinking has helped him discover old passions, why surf bum life calls to him (hint: it’s not the long hair), and where he's been sleeping these days. #102 Marcus Caston – Return of the Turn Marcus Caston is a skiing purist. The SLC native believes that we should all be back on straight, skinny skis for the sole reason that it will separate the good from the average. Marcus, who’s turns and face shots have graced the cover […] The post #102 Marcus Caston – Return of the Turn appeared first on Low Pressure Podcast.

Marcus Caston talks about how he’s putting the fun back in the turn and how you can get after your turns this winter. As he shared with freeskier.com, “Groomers are kind of overlooked because they’re seen as just a way to get from one bowl to the next chute. But really they’re a fundamental part of skiing.” Photo: Chris Segal/Snowbird
Professional skier Marcus Caston joins us to talk about photography, the fun of skiing, his Return of the Turn video project, and skiing on Mars.
