EPAM survey reveals more than half of adults turn to online banking to cope with the cost of living

In a nationally representative survey of 1,005 adults in Ireland, carried out by Censuswide, EPAM has found that 53% of adults are now turning to their bank's website and mobile app to access personal finance support tools to cope with the cost of living. According to the research, nearly half (48%) of adults say they do not make enough money - either through salary or benefits - to cover their living expenses. This is more pronounced for young adults, with 58% of those aged 24 and under saying their living expenses exceed their income. More than half (56%) of adults, meanwhile, say they operate on a paycheque-to-paycheque basis. Increasingly, an industry-wide focus on user experience has seen banking providers introduce tools, which can be accessed via mobile app or online, that can help customers to track and gain insights into their spending, enabling them to budget more effectively. EPAM's research suggests that this could have a profound impact on those struggling to budget effectively - particularly for the significant proportion of people who do not track their spending. The company found that 21% of adults in Ireland rarely or never track their monthly spending and therefore don't know how much they spend each month. Overall, 64% of adults would like additional support in managing their spending. More than one-third of adults (37%) said they would like this support to come from more digital support and insights from their bank. Meanwhile, 19% of banking customers would be open to AI-powered personal finance advice from their bank it if helped them to better manage their finances. Martin Byrne, VP and Country Manager for Ireland, EPAM Systems, commented on the research. He said: "Online and mobile banking is rapidly transforming as banking providers focus on user experience to stand out among their competitors. Online banking platforms have gone from functional to insightful, with users now having access to intelligent insights that make the prospect of budgeting seem a little less overwhelming. "We found that even those who are successfully managing their spending want more support in managing their budgets. It can help people to save for a mortgage, make future plans, or simply have more disposable income to spend on treating themselves or loved ones. A banking provider that can empower its customers to take more control of their finances can secure a more loyal customer base and make a real societal difference by helping people to cope in more challenging times." With a global workforce of almost 55,000, EPAM has a presence in 50+ regions and countries, including Ireland. The company helps banks and financial services companies to embrace technologies that transform the user experience while also adhering to the most stringent regulations and cybersecurity standards. Eleanor Burke recently travelled to Ireland via Gatwick Airport with her guide dog. She has made this journey many times before but this time was held up for an hour in the security area by a member of staff that was not satisfied with her guide dog's documentation. We invited her onto the program to tell us what happened. Adam Jones is Gatwick's Head of Passenger Services, he explains the steps they will be taking to ensure this does not happen to other guide dog owners. Avanti West Coast are trialling a new WhatsApp messaging service, called Travel Companion, that will allow disabled passengers contact someone for help before, during and after their train journeys. Ricky West and Martin Byrne are both visually impaired and are working on the service, they tell us what people can expect from it. The number to contact the service is 07980037037. And an update on the state of the tactile paving installations across the UK's rail network. Príosún 18 mí gearrtha ar an bhfear gnó Jim Mansfield. Businessman Jim Mansfield has been sentenced to two years in prison - but the last six months have been suspended - for trying to distort the course of justice when he instructed to destroy images from security cameras. Gearradh téarma príosúin dhá bhliain ar an bhfear gnó Jim Mansfield - ach na sé mhí dheireanacha curtha ar fionraí - faoi iarracht a dhéanamh cúrsa na córa a shaobhadh nuair a thug sé treoir íomhánna ó cheamaraí slándála a scrios. Jim Mansfield is seen in the images leaving a hotel in west Dublin with a man who worked for him and was abducted later that day. Tá Jim Mansfield le feiceáil sna híomhánna ag fágáil óstáin in iarthar Bhaile Átha Cliath in éineacht le fear a bhí ag obair dó agus a fuadaíodh níos deireanaí an lá sin. The man, Martin Byrne, was abducted by known criminals Dessie O'Hare and Declan Duffy - two former members of the INLA. Ba iad na coirpigh aitheanta Dessie O'Hare agus Declan Duffy - iarbhaill beirt den INLA - a d'fhuadaigh an fear, Martin Byrne. Jim Mansfield, 54, was convicted in the Special Criminal Court today of attempting to pervert the course of justice but was not convicted of participating in a conspiracy to kidnap Martin Byrne. Sa Chúirt Choiriúil Speisialta inniu, ciontaíodh Jim Mansfield, 54 bliain d'aois, in iarracht a dhéanamh cúrsa na córa a shaobhadh ach neamhchiontaíodh é i bpáirt a ghlacadh i gcomhcheilg chun Martin Byrne a fhuadach. The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove that Jim Mansfied knew that Dessie O'Hare and Declan Duffy intended to abduct the man. Rialaigh an chúirt nach raibh dóthain fianaise ann le cruthú go raibh a fhios ag Jim Mansfied go raibh rún ag Dessie O'Hare agus Declan Duffy an fear a fhuadach. It was ruled, however, that he instructed Martin Byrne's brother Patrick to destroy images from security cameras at the Finnstown House Hotel in Lucan. Rialaíodh, áfach, gur thug sé treoir do dheartháir Martin Byrne, Patrick, íomhánna ó cheamaraí slándála in Óstán Theach Bhaile Finn i Leamhcán a scrios. Dessie O'Hare was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2019 for illegally imprisoning Martin Byrne. Gearradh seacht mbliana príosúin ar Dessie O'Hare in 2019 faoi Martin Byrne a phríosúnú go neamhdhleathach. In 2018, Declan Duffy was sentenced to six years in prison for the same offense. In 2018, gearradh sé bliana príosúin ar Declan Duffy faoin gcion céanna.

Former businessman Jimmy Mansfield Jnr went to jail this week, convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice by directing that CCTV footage be destroyed. The conviction centres around the kidnap of one of his late father's employees, Martin Byrne. And while Mansfield Jnr was acquitted of involvement in the abduction, six men, led by terrorists Dessie O'Hare and Declan ‘Whacker' Duffy, have been convicted - and a judge has said Mansfield knowingly engaged them to help recover his assets lost in the 2008 economic crash. At the heart of the Mansfield trial was the story that Byrne told in the witness box of the day he came face to face with O'Hare – and how it changed his life for good. But who is Dessie O'Hare and what other lives has he crossed in a five decade criminal career? Nicola Tallant talks to Fr. Brian D'Arcy about his dealings with O'Hare during the kidnap of his friend the dentist John O'Grady. He recalls an incredible story that has stayed with him all his life and relives the day he too believed he was set to become a victim of the 'Border Fox'.

I was Gripped when I heard the Background behind how Martin (The Big Boss) met and collaborated with an amazing Poet Jason  The interview could have gone on for hours and that's when you know its special    we also listened to three-track that were amazing    Below is the Press Pack release from Them   please check them out and investigate their sound it's like faithless meets the Streets    I Witness are award-winning poet Jason N Smith and Electronic artist Martin Byrne. Based in Stoke and Macclesfield respectively. A unique blend of hard hitting, truthful spoken word and pulsating electronic beats reminiscent of Leftfield, Faithless, Massive Attack and Kate Tempest. Their debut album "The Word" has been 2 years in the making with a 13 track tour de force of songs about love, hate, racism, incarceration, domestic violence, climate change, knife crime, slavery, homelessness, mental health, beauty, hopes, and dreams. I Am England - Track 1 My Name Is Kyoto - Track 6 When She Stopped Running - Track 12 I first met Jason in the Summer of 2018. I went to a gig at The Swan With Two Necks in Macclesfield called “Let’s Get Chipfaced 2”. It was essentially musical geeks who had hacked many forms of games consoles, mostly old, and turned them into musical instruments. Before the bands started the compere said “We’re going to start with some poetry” and, in my ignorance, I thought “oh great”. So a couple of poets came out and delivered their verse, then on walks Jason. He has a presence before he’s even opened his mouth he seemed to command attention. He starts with “How Can I Explain” and I’m captivated instantly, the accent, the words, the cadence, the honesty. I could instantly hear music. After he’d finished I offered to buy him a pint and said: “That was great, what’s your story man?” Now J and I don’t actually know each other that well, I think we’ve met in person ten times or less. So what he told me that night is most of what I do know. He spent years in and out of prison, had some form of epiphany in prison, and started to challenge his very existence. Then he started documenting that challenge and change by writing poems. We haven’t talked that much about that side of his life and I haven’t really asked much about it. I don’t need to. The past is there in the poems, it’s all there, in its starkness, joy, despair and hope, in its honesty, brutality, reality and scope. So, the J I actually know is a gentle man, a kind man, a man aware of his own shortcomings, a man always looking to help others, a man with an ambition to be so much more than his past has delivered. We are mates, brothers in verse and music. I Witness is an extension of Jason, one part of his multifaceted repertoire and I feel lucky to be a part of it. Neither of us knows what this project means, if it’s a one time thing or not, and neither of us care because I Witness is the result of a chance meeting, a chance conversation between two men taking a chance on each other because they both fundamentally believe in, and look for, the good in people, and if that random meeting had never happened…
