Intro:In this episode, we sit down with Ray Downs, a 35-year veteran of the elevator industry. Ray started with Otis in 1989 as Regional Manager of EH&S and retired from TEI as Senior Vice President of EH&S.  Ray along with many dedicated safety professionals from the NEII and NAEC safety committees have just completed revising the Elevator Industries Field Employee's Safety Handbook. Ray discusses the evolution of safety practices in the industry, including the development of the "9 Safety Absolutes" that have become an industry standard. His motto has always been “your family depends on you - to come home every night safely.”Summary:Ray Downs, a 35-year veteran in the elevator industry, discussed his career journey from General Motors to Otis Elevator and TEI Group. He highlighted the evolution of safety practices, including the development of the nine safety absolutes, which are now industry standards. Downs emphasized the importance of mentorship, continuous training, and adapting to new technologies. He noted the ongoing revision of the elevator field employee safety handbook to incorporate these absolutes. Downs also stressed the need for a unified safety program across the industry to ensure consistent safety standards and prevent accidents.

NGC 7538 IRS2 in NeII : Shell and Cavity Kinematics of a Compact HII Region by Dan Beilis et al. on Wednesday 30 November NGC 7538 IRS2 is a compact HII region and recent star formation source, with a shell morphology, lying on the border of the visible HII region NGC 7538. We present a spectral cube of the [NeII] 12.8 micron emission line obtained with the TEXES spectrometer on Gemini North with velocity resolution approximately 4 km/s and angular resolution 0.3". The kinematics of the data cube show ionized gas flowing along multiple cavity walls. We have simulated the kinematics and structure of IRS2 with a model of superimposed cavities created by outflows from embedded stars in a cloud with density gradients. Most of the cavities, including the largest that dominates IRS2 structure, are associated with B-type stars; the outflow of the bright ionizing O star binary IRS2a/b is small in extent and lies in a high-density clump. The IRS2 model shows that the behavior of an HII region is not a matter of only the most massive star present; cloud clumpiness and activity of lower mass stars may determine the structure and kinematics. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.16861v1

The mid-infrared molecular inventory towards Orion IRc2 by Sarah Nickerson et al. on Wednesday 30 November We present the first high spectral resolution mid-infrared survey in the Orion BN/KL region, covering 7.2 to 28.3 micron. With SOFIA/EXES we target the enigmatic source Orion IRc2. While this is in the most prolifically studied massive star-forming region, longer wavelengths and molecular emission lines dominated previous spectral surveys. The mid-infrared observations in this work access different components and molecular species in unprecedented detail. We unambiguously identify two new kinematic components, both chemically rich with multiple molecular absorption lines. The "blue clump" has vLSR = -7.1 pm 0.7 km/s and the "red clump" 1.4 pm 0.5 km/s. While the blue and red clumps have similar temperatures and line widths, molecular species in the blue clump have higher column densities. They are both likely linked to pure rotational H2 emission also covered by this survey. This work provides evidence for the scenario that the blue and red clumps are distinct components unrelated to the classic components in the Orion BN/KL region. Comparison to spectroscopic surveys towards other infrared targets in the region show that the blue clump is clearly extended. We analyze, compare, and present in depth findings on the physical conditions of C2H2, 13CCH2, CH4, CS, H2O, HCN, H13CN, HNC, NH3, and SO2 absorption lines and an H2 emission line associated with the blue and red clumps. We also provide limited analysis of H2O and SiO molecular emission lines towards Orion IRc2 and the atomic forbidden transitions [FeII], [SI], [SIII], and [NeII]. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.15707v1

She received an appointment from President George H.W. Bush and served in his administration, working on Capitol Hill for both a U.S. representative and a senator. NEII President Greg Ergenbright said Blankenbiller will lead the organization "to advance safety, strengthen relationships and promote innovation." NEII's board of directors and Ergenbright thanked NEII's outgoing president, Karen Penafiel, for her contributions over the past four years, including assembling a "top-notch" staff, spearheading development of a professional website and new branding and overseeing a strong advocacy program. Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. Today’s podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com NEII HAS A BUSY 2019 The National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII) gave a review of 2019 in its newsletter, NEII Insider. It highlighted industry advocacy victories including dissuading “the City of New York from requiring elevator control rooms and other restrictions on elevator designs that would have added costs and other challenges without additional safety benefits” and aiding in implementing an amnesty program offered by the Massachusetts Department of Professional Licensing allowing customers a 75% reduction on all civil fines predating 2018. In addition to other victories in Michigan, Washington, Louisiana, Denver and California, the organization said President of Otis Americas and President of NEII Board of Directors Tom Vining’s advocacy for reduced tariffs on elevator and escalator components before the U.S. Trade Representative (in addition to other NEII efforts) led to the exclusion of several elevator and escalator components from increased tariffs. NEII representatives maintained active participation in code development processes, and its member companies had an updated “Arc Flash Study” conducted. Recommendations from it will be used to enhance the Elevator Industry Field Employees’ Safety Handbook this year. It also launched its new website, and the NEII office was moved to 10504 Turning Leaf Lane, Spotsylvania, Virginia 22551. Phone numbers are unchanged.
