In this episode of our "Crisis On Infinite Films" series, we take a look at the comic book inspired film, Supergirl (1984). Introducing a brand new superhero--the beautiful and mighty Girl of Steel in her very first adventure. Her name is Kara, and she's Superman's cousin from Krypton. Coming to Earth on a mission to save her dying city, Supergirl has to find and recover the Omegahedron, a source of almost unlimited power. But it's fallen into the hands of an amateur witch named Selena--who intends to use it to rule the world! To get it back, Supergirl has to fight not only evil humans, but the unimaginable forces of Black Magic (including a hundred-foot monster made of pure energy), and make a perilous journey into the forbidden depths of the Phantom Zone. Here on Anime Was (Not) A Mistake, we've used our Sinister Six event to showcase a number of "bad" movies. We paid the price for our hubris and today's episode has left us forever changed. Released in 1984, Supergirl tells the story of Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, as she arrives on Earth in pursuit of the Omegahedron. The movie does have more of a plot, but there's no way we could properly describe it here. Faye Dunaway is able to use dark magic. There's a gardener with no name. Brenda Vaccaro smokes and drinks a lot. Peter O'Toole is also there for some reason. This movie drove us to the Phantom Zone (in a metaphorical) sense, so make sure that you have nerves of steel (and some Frosted Flakes) before listening.  Rate, Review, Subscribe, and Listen to Us on Podbean/iTunes/Stitcher/Spotify Follow us on Instagram:@animewasnotamistakepodcast Or on Facebook:@animewasnotamistakepod Music Provided by: "Danse Macabre" Saint-Saëns - Rock/Metal Version Cover – EXMORTUS TV “Live and Learn” – Crush 40 - Main Theme of Sonic: Adventure 2 “Chromaggia” – Repo! Kids today have Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman. But back in 1984 we got the first superhero film featuring a woman as the lead - Supergirl. That Film Stew's Luke and Comiczone's Jae revisit the canonically connected spin-off film to the Christopher Reeves Superman franchise. Directed by Jeannot Szwarc, Supergirl stars Helen Slater as the title hero, Faye Dunaway as the villainous Selena, and Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen (reprising his role from the Superman films). After losing a powerful orb known as the Omegahedron, Kara Zor-El (Superman's cousin), comes to Earth to retrieve it and instead finds herself up against a power-hungry would-be witch. Kara becomes Supergirl, adopts the identity Linda Lee, and saves the day.

This is one of those times, particularly because Andrew has been trying to get Chris to watch Hedwig for years, and the only way to make Chris watch any movie is coercion. That's not to say Hedwig is an inappropriate choice; even more than a decade after its release and in the wake of a Broadway revival starring Doogie Howser, Hedwig enjoys only cult-level popularity and continues to drift below the general pop-cultural radar, in spite of being excellent in just about every way that matters. Well, you're not going to get mainstream acceptance by casting Michael Pitt, I guess. Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

How did a Disney movie based on a comic book about a guy with a jetpack, and with just about the coolest movie poster ever, manage to make ten times less at the box office in its opening weekend than contemporary crap-fest Dick Tracy? And can you think of any other movie villain based on a real celebrity's later-discredited biography claiming they were a bisexual Nazi spy? Why won't Jennifer Connelly return our calls? Sure, it's a live-action adaptation of an outdated cartoon that itself was an adaptation of a comic book, but it's also a commentary on consumerism and the choke-hold it has on America's youth. All that, plus a trio of attractive young women in a series of skimpy outfits and ever-present nekomimi? Truly we have suffered greatly to deserve such good fortune.Original post located at searchforschlock.com.
