Cartels (2017) When Sinister Six goes sideways, there's only one man we can call: [check script for name] 2017's Cartels (aka Killing Salazar) kind-of stars Steven Seagal as Special Agent Harrison, who is interrogating U.S. Marshal Jensen about a botched mission. Jensen and his team had been assigned to collect the body of an assassinated crime lord, Salazar, who ends being very much alive. His team is then directed to guard Salazar at a hotel, because HOTELS CAN BE ANYTHING, and that's where the rest of the movie takes place. There's also a rat somewhere in the mix, or a dog, or a shark. We don't really know. Anyway, make sure that you order some pierogis, buy some dress shields, and enjoy the continental breakfast offered here at Anime Was (Not) A Mistake! In this episode, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with missing man Mike Montijo's sister Belinda and private investigator Lou Barry about Mike disappearance from Ridgeville, South Carolina on January 26th, 2020. This interview was previously published on Missing on October 20th, 2022. Mike Montijo has been missing from Ridgeville, South Carolina since January 16, 2020. Straight from the birthing canal to your ears listeners, Sinister Six is back a vengeance presented as always by the MW company and Anime Was (Not) A Mistake. Put all of your anxieties at the forefront of your mind and prep yourself for an epic journey in mendacity. That's right darling, it's time to watch Ari Aster's Beau is Afraid. All Beau wants to do is go home to mom, but he will have to deal with all the horrors of the world in order to make it there. From home invasions, to foster families, overbearing mothers, and a forest full of orphan actors. You'll either love it or hate it, but Dan and Jonathan advise, it must be taken with water. In this new episode, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with Worcester State University archives librarian Ross Griffiths about the mysterious Bennington Triangle disappearances of Vermont and the disappearance of Paula Welden on December 1st, 1946. Paula Welden was last seen on the afternoon of December 1st, 1946. She left the campus that afternoon after telling her roommate she was going for a hike. Several hikers reported seeing her on the Long Trail, just off Route 9 near Glastenbury Mountain. She was reported missing by her roommate the following morning, after she did not return to campus. An extensive search of the area did not show any signs of Welden. Investigators from New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut assisted in the investigation, due to limited police services in Vermont at the time. Numerous theories were investigated, but no conclusive outcome was ever determined. Christine, Christine? Tonight, on Anime Was (Not) A Mistake presents Sinister Six's first true blue direct sequel with The Phantom of the Opera's musical continuation Love Never Dies (2011). We take a trip to Coney Island in the hopes of making 10 long years of waiting make any sort of sense in the musical theater canon. Christine Daae arrives to sing an aria or two with her fractured family, only to find out that her power as one of theater's greatest heroines has no effect in this land of sideshows and jaded chorus girls. Bathing Beauties, please tune in and offer us your commentary on this controversial cabaret. With a son that is only 10 YEARS OLD what kind of intrigue or subterfuge could take place.? We ask on this podcast, to enjoy as our "dear old friends" hoping that you will hear us sing once more. Beneath a moonless sky.... The latest installment of Sinister Six digs way too deep into the “natural horror” genre with 1976's Squirm. When a freak electrical storm strikes the town of Fly Creek, angry worms emerge from the ground and start attacking people. As the worms unleash their wrath one tree at a time, city boy Mick arrives in town to visit his long-distance girlfriend Geri. Fly Creek's very sweaty Sheriff Jim immediately suspects Mick when odd, worm-adjacent occurrences begin popping up. Mick also has to contend with Geri's mother Naomi (who's basically in a different movie) and her odd neighbor Rick. After they discover the first of the worms' many victims, Mick and Geri race to solve the mystery of whatever's nibbling away at Fly Creek. They probably only have until nightfall, when worms are at their most powerful. Probably. We're not really sure what the moral of this story is, but we promise that it involves more worms than you're expecting. “Now you have a friend in the paper business.” A vintage game about an anachronistic job delivering a dying medium. Atari's arcade hit Paperboy is 40! Leon, Brian, Chris Worthington, Dan and community contributors grip tasselled BMX handlebars and brave the gamut of suburban challenges faced daily by our intrepid news disseminator. As is the custom for these type of shows, we also hear of its many conversions, ports, spin-offs and sequels for home systems and handhelds. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_653.mp3 Music featured in this issue:1. In this new episode, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with author and podcaster Kate Winkler Dawson about her new book The Sinners All Bow. Acclaimed journalist, podcaster, and true-crime historian Kate Winkler Dawson tells the true story of the scandalous murder investigation that became the inspiration for both Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter and the first true-crime book published in America. On a cold winter day in 1832, Sarah Maria Cornell was found dead in a quiet farmyard in a small New England town. When her troubled past and a secret correspondence with charismatic Methodist minister Reverend Ephraim Avery was uncovered, more questions emerged. Was Sarah's death a suicide...or something much darker? Determined to uncover the real story, Victorian writer Catharine Read Arnold Williams threw herself into the investigation as the trial was unfolding and wrote what many claim to be the first American true-crime narrative, Fall River. The murder divided the country and inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter—but the reverend was not convicted, and questions linger to this day about what really led to Sarah Cornell's death. Until now. In The Sinners All Bow, acclaimed true-crime historian Kate Winkler Dawson travels back in time to nineteenth-century small-town America, emboldened to finish the work Williams started nearly two centuries before. Using modern investigative advancements—including “forensic knot analysis” and criminal profiling (which was invented fifty-five years later with Jack the Ripper)—Dawson fills in the gaps of Williams's research to find the truth and bring justice to an unsettling mystery that speaks to our past as well as our present, anchored by three women who subverted the script they were given. Back for a fourteenth year of deep-dive videogame review podcasts, and the first subject for 2025 is SEGA's Panzer Dragoon. Leon, Chris O'Regan, Chris Worthington and Michiel - along with contributions from the Cane and Rinse community - look back at the Saturn CD that spawned a four-game series of dragonborn blasters (and one RPG). Here we focus on the 30-year-old original, as well as its various ports and 2020 remake. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_651.mp3 Music featured in this issue: 1. Rob was unable to make it for Episode 243, but he was there in spirit, along with special guest Donny Divanian. As always, there's a lot of great music to cover in this mixtape. Main Menu from Multi Play Volleyball would fit well on an Elevator Music episode, with parts sounding reminiscent of Pilotwings. Main Theme from Kiki Kaikai is a PC Engine track with a strong Asiatic
Spectacular! Spectacular! A Sinister Selection? It's in the vernacular! Anime Was (Not) A Mistake pulls back the red curtain and tunes the orchestra to present a 40th sinister film celebration! With plenty of returning actors and a director to this humble podcast we explore the themes of freedom, beauty, truth, and love with Baz Luhrmann's seminal Moulin Rouge! (2001). In this Parisian, jukebox musical, toy will encounter decadence, tropes, and many compilations that would make the cast of Glee blush. When the bright eyed Christian (Ewan McGregor) wanders into the bordello of sin that is the Moulin Rouge and falls in love with the star act, The Sparkling Diamond, Satine (Nicole Kidman) a passionate, maddening, romance begins. You will certainly feel as if you are on an absinthe trip...singing moon included. But in the end should someone die? Perhaps it will be one of your co-hosts? Why are we watching this? Simply, because we can can-can! A new Sinister Selection crash-lands on the scene and vows to dispense cosmic justice…just very slowly and on a budget. In 1987's Alien Private Eye, Earth is threatened by an odd combination of narcotics and nuclear weapons. Our only hope is Lemro, a super-cool alien who lives among us as a private detective. Aided by a mysterious woman and a pair of rival space cops, Lemro searches for the two halves of a powerful alien artifact. One half is currently in the possession of the villainous Kilgore, who's using it manufacturer a potent (and very confusing) drug called “soma.” We're not sure how Lemro intends to solve this case, but it'll definitely involve dancing, fighting, and a Nintendo Power Glove. “If you love a character, you give them pain, ruin their lives, make them suffer.” Just ahead of the release of the fourth instalment in BioWare's fantasy RPG series, we finally get around to scrutinising the third game in the series - Dragon Age: Inquisition. Leon, Brian, Leah and Tony have quested long, scouring the plains of Thedas to explore the game's systems and characters - intimately. As usual we also have correspondents from the far-flung corners of the wastes, reporting back to the war room with their own findings. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_641.mp3 Music featured in this issue: 1. "Throw me back." What better way to spend time in the ocean than to fish while trying not to succumb to ancient malices from the deep? For this is apparently what is on offer with 2023's indie darling, Dredge. Chris O'Regan with James and Brian - along with contributions from the Cane and Rinse listenership – tell tall tales of fishes larger than a house they 'allegedly' caught, while fighting off stress induced fatigue in this boat-bound action adventure. One can only wonder what is hauled up from the sea bed in this issue of Cane and Rinse... http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_640.mp3 Music featured in this issue: 1.
