All the stars are out (and looking a little dimmer than usual) for today's Sinister Selection. The episode begins with a special presentation of the Sinisties, where Jonathan and Dan recount their favorite Sinister Six picks of the year. Then, we journey across time and space to suffer through 2017's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. United Human Federation dispatches police partners Valerian and Laureline to Alpha, a space-traveling city made up of species from all over the galaxy. Alpha's existence is threatened by an irradiated anomaly spreading from its core. Our heroes are uncertain who to trust, as this crisis exposes a larger conspiracy within the federation. Valerian and Laureline must make their way to Alpha's core to uncover these secrets for themselves, meeting new allies (such as Rhianna) and enemies along the way. We can't promise this adventure will end with a bang (besides it being the biggest bomb in the history of France), nor can we promise that you'll learn anything. But maybe, just maybe, you'll come away knowing the true meaning of love. Or something. We're not sure. This one really got away from us. A thousand years in the future, a cataclysmic conflict nearly destroyed the world and temporarily ruined our podcast's audio. A young woman named Hester Shaw enters London in its latest meal and enacts her plan to assassinate the historian Thaddeus Valentine. Tom Natsworthy, a museum apprentice and love of “ancient” tech, unwittingly ruins Hester's plot and is expelled from the city along with her. Stranded in the wilderness, Hester and Tom must work together to evade bloodthirsty scavengers and a monstrous cyborg. Meanwhile, Valentine takes London in a new direction, determined to destroy one of world's last stationary cities. To that end, he is working to rebuild a doomsday weapon that only Hester's late mother had the knowledge to stop. You'd think that about covers the plot, but there's still two whole acts left. Spooktoberfest is in the rearview mirror, but we've taken a wrong turn into much more sinister territory. Selected for your listening displeasure is 1976's Track of the Moon Beast, a creature feature mentioned only briefly in bad movie folktales. A shirtless mineralogist named Paul is struck by a lunar meteorite, a microscopic fragment of which becomes lodged in his head. Every night from that point on, when exposed to moonlight, Paul transforms into a reptilian monster and goes on a murderous rampage. Paul's friend Johnny Longbow, an anthropology professor and lister of stew ingredients, is recruited by the local sheriff to help him solve this very simple mystery. Also present is the photographer Kathy, who falls deeply in love with Paul in spite of his nightly lizard-outs. Legends speak of a similar reptilian creature that appeared centuries earlier, claiming many lives before randomly exploding. Is Paul doomed to meet the same fiery end? Or will Kathy's love and Johnny's bored indifference be enough to finally defeat the Moon Beast? A movie with this reputation and this level of talent should be expected to at least be a competent film. But somehow Clint Eastwood chose the most tepid, non-committal way to tell a story that has more in common with great existential novels than Westerns. And that might be interesting, if it weren't for the fact that this movie is also convinced it's a western. Gene Hackman is acting his ass off and being just about the meanest son of a bitch you've ever met. But everything else in this movie just feels totally and completely missed, and that's a problem we can't solve because it happens to be one of the most lauded films of all time. In this new episode, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak about the disappearance of Zebb Quinn from Asheville, North Carolina since January 2nd, 2000. Robert “Jason” Owen, was a 21 year old co-worker who Zebb occasionally played pool with.  On the night of January 2nd, 2000, Zebb had been working and clocked out of Walmart at 9:02 p.m.  He met up with Jason in the parking lot.  They headed south on Hendersonville Road and stopped for drinks at the Citgo gas station. In this episode, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with missing man Mike Montijo's sister Belinda and private investigator Lou Barry about Mike disappearance from Ridgeville, South Carolina on January 26th, 2020. This interview was previously published on Missing on October 20th, 2022. Mike Montijo has been missing from Ridgeville, South Carolina since  January 16, 2020. PIFTM had an experienced homicide detective from a major city investigate the case. He determined that it was very likely that Mike was the victim of foul play. The Colleton County Sheriff's Department is not interested in pursuing  the investigation and was uncooperative with our investigator. In this new episode, Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with Worcester State University archives librarian Ross Griffiths about the mysterious Bennington Triangle disappearances of Vermont and the disappearance of Paula Welden on December 1st, 1946. Paula Welden was last seen on the afternoon of December 1st, 1946. She left the campus that afternoon after telling her roommate she was going for a hike. Several hikers reported seeing her on the Long Trail, just off Route 9 near Glastenbury Mountain. She was reported missing by her roommate the following morning, after she did not return to campus. An extensive search of the area did not show any signs of Welden. Investigators from New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut assisted in the investigation, due to limited police services in Vermont at the time. Numerous theories were investigated, but no conclusive outcome was ever determined.
