Supergirl was recently released on June 26th with Milly Alcock starring in the title role of Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, it is the second film set in the DC Universe (DCU) following last year's Superman. The film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Corenswet returning as Superman, and Jason Momoa as fan favorite character Lobo! In the film, Kara embarks on a journey across the galaxy to hunt down an adversary who has harmed her pet dog Krypto in a story based in part on the 2021 Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic miniseries by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. Steve, Caleb and Billy Z relay what they thought of the film (spoilers included) and also discuss some of the "fandom" reaction to it. Tom Clark and Phil Lindsey break down the second film in DC Studios' new DC Universe, examining Milly Alcock's darker take on Kara Zor-El, the film's adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and how its revenge-driven space adventure differs from the hopeful tone established in Superman. They also discuss the film's long road to the big screen, James Gunn and Peter Safran's creative direction for the new DCU, and behind-the-scenes stories from the production. The conversation covers the performances of Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, and David Corenswet, along with the movie's mixed critical reception, disappointing box office performance, and what Supergirl could mean for the future of the franchise. Does this emotionally scarred version of Kara Zor-El offer a compelling new direction for the character, or does the film struggle to balance its cosmic adventure with its darker themes? SPOILER WARNING The new Supergirl movie had everything we wanted on paper: Milly Alcock as a more broken, bitter Kara Zor-El, a fresh contrast to Superman's optimism, Krypto the Superdog, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and a chance to keep the new DC Universe momentum going after James Gunn's Superman. Unfortunately… we did not love this one. In this spoiler-heavy Supergirl movie review, we break down why the movie felt more like DC's Babysitters Club than a bold new superhero adventure, why Kara's “punk rock” attitude never quite lands, why the Ruthie revenge plot feels weirdly underwritten, and why the movie's feminist ideas feel more like random ingredients thrown into a blender than an actual story. We also get into the Krypto problem, the Jason Momoa/Lobo cameo, the discourse around whether Supergirl is bombing because of misogyny, the bizarre ending, the comparisons to Guardians of the Galaxy, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Superman, and whether this movie hurts our excitement for the future of the DCU. First up is Supergirl, the latest film from DC Studios starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, David Corenswet, Emily Beecham, and David Krumholtz. Inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film follows Kara as she embarks on a dangerous journey across the cosmos that challenges her understanding of justice, family, and what it truly means to be a hero. We are breaking down the performances, the visual spectacle, and whether this latest chapter continues the momentum of DC Studios' new cinematic universe. Then we turn to Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Monster of Nivola, written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, with painted art by Daniele Serra and lettering by Clem Robins. Set in 1963, Hellboy is dispatched to the mountain village of Nivola, Italy, where an ancient legend has become a terrifying reality. As villagers disappear and fear spreads through the countryside, Hellboy uncovers a monstrous force tied to the region's dark folklore. Supergirl This week we rocket headfirst into the second film of the new-ish DC Cinematic Universe; Supergirl, a character who's been orbiting the DC universe since the Silver Age, occasionally stepping out from Superman's shadow to remind everyone that capes aren't a boys-only club. Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock alongside Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jason Momoa desperately trying to wash off the fishy smell of Aquaman. We find Kara Zor-El trading Metropolis for the far reaches of space and her colourful costume for a pair of sunnies with a tan duster. There's the CGI dog again, a revenge quest, and a tone that suggests that maybe this isn't your Saturday-morning cartoon version of heroism. The film has already sparked conversations about how female superheroes are portrayed and whether they're being written with the same complexity, agency, and messy humanity as their male counterparts… or whether we're still stuck in orbit around old tropes. Enter your podcast super-friends: Jill, providing super strength and razor-sharp insight; Dion, keeping things grounded (mostly); Peta, flying high as ever; and Quinny, heroically attempting to hold it all together while absolutely not getting distracted by space dogs or continuity debates. Together, they tackle not just Supergirl itself, but the bigger question: How do we fairly critique female-lead films in the superhero genre today? And why is that such a hard question to ask? Message Dan and MikeWe saw Supergirl opening weekend and couldn't disagree more. Dan's defending it. Mike thinks it's one of the worst films he's seen in years. No fence-sitting — just a real debate about whether Craig Gillespie's DCU origin story actually works. We break down Milly Alcock's performance as Kara Zor-El, the galactic revenge story adapted from Tom King's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Jason Momoa's Lobo and what his presence actually adds (or doesn't), villain Krem (Matthias Schoenaerts) and whether he lands, the late arrival of the suit, the Krypton lore that's already dividing DC fans, and what David Corenswet's Superman cameo contributes. We also get into the box office disappointment, the mixed critical reception, and whether any of that should change how you feel walking into the theater.Did the DCU get its Supergirl right? Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl (Milly Alcock) joines forces with a recent orphan Ruthye (Eve Ridley) who is out to avenge the murder of their parents.  Together they embark on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice, alongside a mercenary named Lobo (Jason Mamoa) who is looking to take out the same villains.  Directed by Craig Gillespie (I Tonya, Cruella, Lars and the Real Girl, Dumb Money), this is the latest entry in the recently rebooted DCU (Detective Comics Universe).  It has earned mixed reviews from critics, garnered weak box office, and has attracted intense online vitriol (mostly directed at its star) from several online right-wing influencers....but does it DESERVE this kind of response?    Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us Fan MailSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

After nearly two decades of development hell across Warner Bros., Sony, and Netflix, the film finally landed on Amazon Studios—but does Masters of the Universe live up to the hype and legacy?James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe continues with Supergirl, the second cinematic chapter following the success of Superman, but does Kara Zor-El's solo adventure soar to the same heights? On this episode of The Commentary Booth, Jamie Apps is joined by Todd Eastman to break down Craig Gillespie's cosmic superhero adventure starring Australian actress Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Together, they explore how Supergirl delivers a vastly different experience to Superman, trading bright optimism for a darker, more personal story centred on grief, identity, revenge, and belonging.Jamie and Todd discuss Milly Alcock's standout performance, the emotional depth she brings to a character carrying the trauma of Krypton's destruction, and why her rebellious interpretation of Supergirl offers a fascinating contrast to David Corenswet's hopeful Superman. They also examine the film's strengths, including its world-building, the introduction of different-coloured suns, emotional character moments, and surprising humour.Highlights Breakdown: - Milly Alcock's star-making performance as Supergirl - Why Kara Zor-El is the perfect foil to Superman - The emotional themes of grief, heritage, legacy and belonging - Jason Momoa's first appearance as Lobo - The introduction of red, yellow and green suns in the DCU - Did the film suffer from major editing cuts? - The future of the DCU and upcoming projects including Lanterns and ClayfaceThe boys go deep on what makes this one different from Superman — for better and for worse — and come out the other side with a verdict that's more generous than the critical pile-on suggested it deserved. This week's episode is brought to you byAustralian Wrestling CardsCheck out more great content from Pario Magazine on our website.-------------------------------------------------------------SUPPORT PARIO MAGAZINE & THE COMMENTARY BOOTH- PATREON- BUY MERCH- AMAZON PRIME VIDEO- TUBEBUDDY- Subscribe to AEW Plus using my code (q0yydoz) to earn $10 in FITE credit- Shop Online With Honey- Shop Online With SatechiMY EQUIPMENT- Elgato Facecam- Rode PodMic- Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP- Streamlabs Talk StudioFOLLOW JAMIE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram- TikTokFOLLOW PARIO MAGAZINE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram

Supergirl is a 2026 superhero film based on the DC Comics character, directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. Produced by DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safran, it is the second theatrical entry in the new DC Universe (DCU). Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa. Adapted from Tom King and Bilquis Evely's acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film follows Kara on a galaxy-spanning quest for vengeance that ultimately forces her to confront grief, justice, and her own identity. A standalone Supergirl project had been in development during the DC Extended Universe era after Sasha Calle's debut in The Flash (2023), but Gunn and Safran rebooted the concept following their appointment as co-heads of DC Studios in 2022. Filmed in England and Scotland during early 2025, Supergirl premiered in Brooklyn on June 22, 2026, opened nationwide on June 26 as part of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, received mixed reviews from critics, and has grossed approximately $63 million worldwide to date.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Supergirl may not save humanity, but we're always here for you at Breakfast All Day. Here's what we reviewed in our latest episode: SUPERGIRL. It's getting mostly mixed-negative reviews, and we're on the lower end of that scale. We enjoyed Milly Alcock as the aggressively blasé Kara Zor-El, and we really liked Jason Momoa as the imposing Lobo, but for the most part this "Superman" follow-up is a mess. Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley co-star. In theaters. JACKASS: BEST AND LAST. After more than a quarter century, Johnny Knoxville and his rowdy, masochistic friends can still make you squirm and howl with laughter at their elaborate stunts. But this final "Jackass" movie is also surprisingly poignant. Kids, don't try this at home. In theaters. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! The DC Universe continues with Supergirl, but does Kara Zor-El's first solo film soar to new heights or fall short of the incredible expectations set by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive into a full review of the new Supergirl movie with a spoiler-free first half followed by a full spoiler discussion where we break down the biggest moments, performances, action sequences, characters, and how the film compares to the beloved DC Comics graphic novel that inspired it. SPOILER WARNING The first half of this episode is completely spoiler-free, making it the perfect review to watch before heading to the theater. The second half contains our full spoiler discussion of Supergirl. In our spoiler-free review, we discuss: • Milly Alcock's outstanding performance as Kara Zor-El • Jason Momoa's debut as Lobo • The movie's action sequences and visual effects • The overall story and pacing • Whether Supergirl is a strong addition to James Gunn's new DC Universe • How it compares to other recent DC movies Then we jump into full spoilers to discuss: • The biggest story moments • Kara's emotional journey • Lobo's role in the film • The supporting cast • Favorite and least favorite scenes • The ending explained • Themes and character arcs • What worked... and what didn't • The future of the DCU One thing we all agreed on is that Milly Alcock absolutely shines as Supergirl. She brings warmth, vulnerability, strength, and charisma to Kara Zor-El, making her the emotional core of the entire movie. Jason Momoa is also a blast as Lobo, even if his role is relatively small. Where our discussion gets more interesting is when we compare the movie to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the acclaimed comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely that we reviewed last week. While the film improves on a few aspects of the source material, including pacing, action, and a more restrained version of Ruthye, it also loses much of the emotional depth, nuance, and heart that made the graphic novel so memorable. Ultimately, we found Supergirl to be an entertaining but uneven superhero movie. It doesn't reinvent the genre, and a one-dimensional villain along with a familiar, trope-driven plot keep it from reaching its full potential. Still, if you can separate the movie from its comic book inspiration, there's plenty of fun to be had. This week on the Major Issues Podcast, the hosts revisit Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely ahead of Supergirl's big-screen debut. Widely regarded as the defining Supergirl story of the modern era, the series follows Kara Zor-El, Krypto, and the young warrior Ruthye on a cosmic quest for justice that challenges everything Kara believes about vengeance, heroism, and hope. The hosts break down the book's True Grit-inspired space western structure, Ruthye's role as narrator, the haunting journey to track down Krem, and why this story succeeds as a Supergirl story rather than simply a Superman story with a different lead. They also explore the stunning artwork, the emotional weight of Kara's past, and the themes of trauma, legacy, and choosing compassion in a universe that rarely rewards it. With the upcoming Supergirl drawing heavily from this acclaimed miniseries, the hosts discuss what makes Woman of Tomorrow so beloved, how it reshaped perceptions of Supergirl, and why it remains essential reading for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

It's time to enter the universe of Earth-38, more commonly referred to as The Arrowverse. Amazingly we're haven't really covered much of this in Caravan Of Garbage and the Supergirl 2015 series seems a good a place as any. This version again sees the character of Kara Zor-El arrive from Krypton a little late to encounter a fully grown Superman and finds herself directionless despite having all the powers all of the time. Blending a bit of The Flash/Arrow with the likes of Alley McBeal/The Devil Wears Prada it definitely does its own thing for good or ill or for middling results whilst also managing to introduce characters like Martian Manhunter, Bizarro Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin's Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson, Brainiac, Maxwell Lord, Lex Luthor and more! Super Hero Homies!

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is widely considered one of the best Supergirl stories ever written, but does it deserve all the praise? With the upcoming Supergirl movie drawing heavy inspiration from Tom King's acclaimed DC Comics graphic novel, we decided it was finally time to sit down and read Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. After finishing the book, we found ourselves agreeing on some things, disagreeing on others, and having a fascinating discussion about one of DC's most celebrated modern comics. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in a full spoiler-filled review, discussing the story, characters, themes, artwork, pacing, world-building, and whether this graphic novel deserves its reputation as a modern DC Comics classic. COLD OPEN (First 30 Minutes) Before discussing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, we dive into several major topics from the worlds of comic books, superhero movies, and pop culture: • The new Lanterns trailer and its detective-inspired mystery elements • Our thoughts on Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart's dynamic • Why Lanterns could become one of DC Studios' most important projects • The endlessly delayed Blade movie and why Marvel Studios can't seem to get it made • What makes Blade such a seemingly straightforward superhero movie to adapt • The surprising announcement of the Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd television series • Our theories on what that bizarre DC project could become • New casting announcements for The Batman Part II • Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry joining the cast • Speculation surrounding Harvey Dent, Gilda Dent, Victor Zsasz, Harvey Bullock, and other Gotham City characters FULL SPOILER REVIEW After the cold open, we jump into a deep spoiler discussion of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Topics include: • Kara Zor-El's characterization • The story's themes and emotional core • Tom King's writing style • Bilquis Evely's incredible artwork • The strengths and weaknesses of the narrative • Pacing issues and storytelling choices • Favorite and least favorite moments • The supporting cast • The book's entertainment value • How faithful the Supergirl movie should be to the comic • Why our opinions on the story differ so much While all three of us agree that the artwork is phenomenal and that Kara is written exceptionally well, our opinions diverge when it comes to the pacing, character decisions, and overall effectiveness of the story. Two hosts came away largely positive on the graphic novel, while one host found himself far less impressed by the experience.
