It's time to enter the universe of Earth-38, more commonly referred to as The Arrowverse. Amazingly we're haven't really covered much of this in Caravan Of Garbage and the Supergirl 2015 series seems a good a place as any. This version again sees the character of Kara Zor-El arrive from Krypton a little late to encounter a fully grown Superman and finds herself directionless despite having all the powers all of the time. Blending a bit of The Flash/Arrow with the likes of Alley McBeal/The Devil Wears Prada it definitely does its own thing for good or ill or for middling results whilst also managing to introduce characters like Martian Manhunter, Bizarro Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin's Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson, Brainiac, Maxwell Lord, Lex Luthor and more! Super Hero Homies!

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is widely considered one of the best Supergirl stories ever written, but does it deserve all the praise? With the upcoming Supergirl movie drawing heavy inspiration from Tom King's acclaimed DC Comics graphic novel, we decided it was finally time to sit down and read Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. After finishing the book, we found ourselves agreeing on some things, disagreeing on others, and having a fascinating discussion about one of DC's most celebrated modern comics. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in a full spoiler-filled review, discussing the story, characters, themes, artwork, pacing, world-building, and whether this graphic novel deserves its reputation as a modern DC Comics classic. COLD OPEN (First 30 Minutes) Before discussing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, we dive into several major topics from the worlds of comic books, superhero movies, and pop culture: • The new Lanterns trailer and its detective-inspired mystery elements • Our thoughts on Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart's dynamic • Why Lanterns could become one of DC Studios' most important projects • The endlessly delayed Blade movie and why Marvel Studios can't seem to get it made • What makes Blade such a seemingly straightforward superhero movie to adapt • The surprising announcement of the Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd television series • Our theories on what that bizarre DC project could become • New casting announcements for The Batman Part II • Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry joining the cast • Speculation surrounding Harvey Dent, Gilda Dent, Victor Zsasz, Harvey Bullock, and other Gotham City characters FULL SPOILER REVIEW After the cold open, we jump into a deep spoiler discussion of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Topics include: • Kara Zor-El's characterization • The story's themes and emotional core • Tom King's writing style • Bilquis Evely's incredible artwork • The strengths and weaknesses of the narrative • Pacing issues and storytelling choices • Favorite and least favorite moments • The supporting cast • The book's entertainment value • How faithful the Supergirl movie should be to the comic • Why our opinions on the story differ so much While all three of us agree that the artwork is phenomenal and that Kara is written exceptionally well, our opinions diverge when it comes to the pacing, character decisions, and overall effectiveness of the story. Two hosts came away largely positive on the graphic novel, while one host found himself far less impressed by the experience. Whether you're preparing for the upcoming Supergirl movie, looking for great DC Comics recommendations, or simply curious about one of the most talked-about superhero comics of the past decade, this discussion is for you. Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord surprised us in the best way possible. Going into this new Star Wars series, our expectations were fairly modest. While Darth Maul has always been one of the franchise's most iconic villains, we weren't convinced that another Maul-centered story would bring anything new to the table. After watching all ten episodes, we're happy to admit we were wrong. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled review of Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord, discussing the story, characters, action sequences, major reveals, connections to Star Wars lore, and what the future could hold for Darth Maul and the galaxy far, far away. COLD OPEN (First 21 Minutes) Before diving into Maul Shadow Lord, we discuss several major topics from the worlds of comic books, superhero movies, and pop culture: • Why Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder has become such a massive success • Bruce Wayne's lack of an internal monologue and how it changes the character • Why readers are embracing a more violent, immature, and physically imposing Batman • The new Supergirl movie teaser and Kara Zor-El's first meeting with Superman • Our upcoming Supergirl review and discussion of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow • Lex Luthor's comic-accurate power suit from the recent Superman set photos • First impressions of the Lanterns television series trailer • The future of the DC Universe under James Gunn FULL SPOILER REVIEW After the cold open, we jump into a deep spoiler discussion of Maul Shadow Lord. We discuss: • Darth Maul's character development • The show's fast-paced storytelling • The impressive lightsaber duels and action sequences • New Star Wars characters and villains • The shocking reveal in Episode 9 • Connections to The Phantom Menace • What happened to Maul after Naboo • Star Wars canon and lore implications • The future of Maul's criminal empire • The next chapter of Star Wars animation and television While Maul Shadow Lord isn't necessarily groundbreaking television, we found it to be one of the most enjoyable and cohesive Star Wars projects in recent memory. The series expands Darth Maul's story in meaningful ways, delivers exciting action, introduces compelling new characters, and leaves fans with plenty to speculate about moving forward. Opening Line“Your Nerd Side is going full nostalgia this week — He-Man is back, She-Ra could be next, Supergirl is getting ready to fly, Spider-Noir is bringing Nicolas Cage into live-action Marvel weirdness, The Boys wrapped its final season, Star Wars is going tactical, Indiana Jones is returning to comics, Wolverine is slicing into PlayStation, and we're giving a shoutout to a voice actor gamers know well: Chris Murphy.”1. Masters of the Universe / He-ManThe new live-action Masters of the Universe movie is bringing back He-Man for a new generation. The cast includes Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, and Kristen Wiig as Roboto. Host angle:This is not just another reboot — this is Hollywood testing whether the big 1980s toy-cartoon universe can work again as a modern fantasy franchise.Quick line:“He-Man is back, Skeletor is back, and Hollywood is once again asking: can the power of Grayskull power a whole new movie universe?”2. She-Ra AngleEven if She-Ra is not the main focus yet, this is the natural fan question: if He-Man works, does She-Ra come next?Host angle:She-Ra may be the smartest expansion point because she has both 1980s nostalgia and a newer fanbase from the Netflix animated version.Quick line:“If Masters of the Universe hits, don't be shocked if fans immediately start chanting for She-Ra — because that may be the real franchise test.”3. Chris Murphy — Voice Actor SegmentChris Murphy is an American voice actor, writer, and producer. For gamers, he is best known as the voice of Murray in the Sly Cooper video game series. Behind The Voice Actors also lists him as Murray, and Streamily promotes him as “the voice of the amazing Murray from Sly Cooper.” Important clarification:This is not Senator Chris Murphy. This is Chris Murphy the voice actor, connected to PlayStation-era gaming nostalgia.Host angle:Murray was the big-hearted, funny muscle of the Sly Cooper crew. Chris Murphy helped make that character memorable for a whole generation of PlayStation fans.Quick line:“And a quick shoutout for gamers: Chris Murphy, the voice of Murray from Sly Cooper, is one of those actors whose voice lives rent-free in the heads of PlayStation kids everywhere.”4. SupergirlSupergirl is heading toward its June 26, 2026 theatrical release, with Milly Alcock starring as Kara Zor-El. The movie is inspired by the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, and recent coverage says the final trailer is pushing big space adventure, action, and Krypto energy. Host angle:This is DC trying to prove the new universe is bigger than just Superman and Batman.Quick line:“Supergirl is not just Superman's cousin anymore — DC is putting her front and center, and the question is whether fans are ready for Kara to carry the cape.”5. Spider-NoirSpider-Noir stars Nicolas Cage in a live-action noir-style Spider-Man story. Reuters reported that the series blends superhero storytelling with classic film noir and can be watched in black-and-white or color. Host angle:This is one of the strangest and coolest Marvel-adjacent projects because it is not trying to look like every other superhero show.Quick line:“Nicolas Cage as a 1930s noir Spider-Man? That is either crazy or brilliant — and honestly, with Cage, it might be both.”

Today on Word Balloon, we're catching up with one of comics' most distinctive visual storytellers, Rod Reis.Rod is taking on a huge creative challenge with DC's new Elseworlds Supergirl series, serving as the complete artistic force behind the book. Writing the visual language, designing the worlds, drawing, painting, and bringing every page to life. The series imagines a dramatically different destiny for Krypton's last children. In this reality, Kara Zor-El and baby Kal-El share the same escape rocket from Krypton, launching them into a sprawling science-fiction adventure that takes the Superman mythology into entirely new territory. One of the most striking aspects of the book is Rod's reimagining of Krypton itself. From the architecture and technology to the appearance and culture of its people, he's creating a version of the doomed world unlike anything we've seen before. We'll also look back at Rod's acclaimed work on New Mutants and the X-Men line, where his painted style brought a dreamlike and often unsettling atmosphere to the mutant corner of the Marvel Universe. And we'll talk about his remarkable career journey. From breaking into American comics as a colorist, collaborating with some of the industry's top artists, to evolving into one of comics' most accomplished full-spectrum creators whose work is instantly recognizable on sight.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesSuper TrailerWarner Bros. released the first full trailer for Supergirl, giving us our best look at Milly Alcock's hard-partying Kara Zor-El as she embarks on an interstellar revenge mission to save her poisoned dog Krypto after villainous Krem leaves him only three days to live. The June 26 release directed by Craig Gillespie adapts Tom King's Woman of Tomorrow comic, featuring Jason Momoa's Lobo as an unlikely ally and Eve Ridley as young Ruthye Marye Knoll, whose parents were murdered by Krem. With James Gunn's punk rock aesthetic and emotional animal stakes reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 all over, did this trailer deliver the goods in terms of hyping us up, up and away?Trailer Who LivedHBO unveiled the first trailer for its Harry Potter series last Wednesday, revealing an earlier-than-expected Christmas Day 2026 premiere for the eight-episode first season officially titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod lead the ambitious seven-season adaptation with each season dedicated to one book, reportedly costing around $100 million per episode, making it potentially the most expensive television production of all time. With the trailer becoming the most-viewed in HBO Max history at 277 million views in 48 hours, can this decade-long reboot justify its lofty budget and overcome the controversy surrounding the franchise's creator?Galactically Good Box OfficeRyan Gosling's Project Hail Mary crossed $300M globally to become the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, but its reign might be short-lived as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is projected to dominate Easter weekend with $175M-$180M domestically over five days and $350M globally. Tracking is running slightly ahead of 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which opened to $204.6M domestically and $377M worldwide before finishing with $1.36B. The $110M sequel reunites Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black while adding Donald Glover as Yoshi and Glen Powell as Star Fox in a recently announced surprise crossover cameo. With first reviews seeming to echo the first film's middling critical reception, will its box office performance be as out of this world as expected?Lightning RoundThis morning Amazon MGM released the official trailer for Masters of the Universe, slated for theaters June 5. Stephen Colbert revealed he's co-writing The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past with his son Peter McGee and franchise veteran Philippa Boyens, adapting six early chapters from The Fellowship of the Ring that were omitted from Peter Jackson's 2001 filmHimesh Patel has been cast in writer-director Ryan Coogler‘s revival of the X-Files and will star opposite the previously cast Danielle Deadwyler. Ryan Gosling is set to star in Universal Pictures' untitled event film directed by The Daniels, the Oscar-winning duo behind Everything Everywhere All at Once. And how the movie was actually a failure when it debuted in theaters but was saved almost 20 years later and became the classic we know it to be today. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 starring Josh Hutcherson. It picks up one year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Former security guard Mike has kept the truth from his 11-year-old sister, Abby, concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Last Wednesday morning, Marvel Television treated fans to the long awaited first official teaser trailer for Daredevil: Born Again. The trailer was met with universal praise for its dark tone and brutal depictions of violence, elements that it shares with the beloved Netflix series. The nine-episode first season premieres March 4 on Disney Plus. In some Captain America news, it was confirmed that Brave New World will have a total runtime of one hour and 58 minutes, which ties it with Ant-Man & The Wasp as the seventh shortest MCU flick to date. It will also be the first Captain America film under two hours long. It's brand new news today, Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in Shawn Levy's future Star Wars film. Levy's film has been in development with Lucasfilm since 2022, and getting Gosling seems like it could be a major step in getting the film truly off the ground and into the galaxy far, far away. Last we knew, the film was not to be set within the Skywalker saga The use of AI has been a frequent hot topic for Hollywood in recent years, reaching a seeming fever pitch during the 2023 WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes as a major point of negotiation. While the dust seemed to have settled a bit with the resolution of those strikes, new controversies plaguing high profile films and filmmakers have brought the discussion back to the forefront. First, Taxi Driver writer and First Reformed director, Paul Schrader, opined, in a since much lambasted Facebook post, the benefits of using a platform like ChatGPT for film ideas, in contrast to waiting the months it can take writers to ideate. Elsewhere, awards season favorite and Oscar hopeful, The Brutalist, has come under fire after an editor revealed generative A.I. was used to enhance the authenticity of the lead performers Hungarian accents. Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz have signed on to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, portraying the parents of Kara Zor-El. Production on the DC Studios film commenced last week. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “Until Dawn,” the live-action adaptation of the popular 2015 PlayStation horror game. The film is currently set to be released on April 25th. After nearly 15 years of shaping Spider-Man's adventures at Marvel Comics, Eisner Award winner Dan Slott is making the move to DC. The acclaimed writer will make his DC debut on Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series featuring art by American Vampire co-creator Rafael Albuquerque. Westworld star Thandiwe Newton and Silo's Steve Zahn have joined Paul Rudd and Jack Black in Columbia's comedy reboot of Anaconda. Nintendo has revealed its Switch 2 console with first look images and a teaser trailer, confirming a 2025 release. Uma Thurman has joined the cast of Dexter series Dexter: Resurrection and will star alongside Michael C. Hall. Filmmaker David Lynch, who created celebrated counterculture classics like Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and co-created Twin Peaks, has died at 78. A24 and Picturestart are teaming with director Charlie Polinger for a revisionist and darkly comedic take on The Masque of The Red Death, based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allen Poe. Sydney Sweeney is currently in negotiations to star. After extensive negotiations, IMAX has secured a deal to exclusively screen Greta Gerwig's Netflix adaptation of "Narnia" in theaters worldwide for two weeks, beginning Thanksgiving 2026, before its streaming debut that Christmas. Joel McHale has joined the cast of Scream 7 and will play Mark Evans, the husband to Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott. A24 has released the first trailer for upcoming horror film Opus, which hits theaters on March 14th. The film stars Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Juliette Lewis, and Amber Midthunder.

Host Anthony Desiato and guest Zach Moore (Always Hold On To Smallville) pick up right where they left off last week as they continue charting Clark's personal journey across the decade-long television series SMALLVILLE. This week, they follow Clark into the so-called "Dropout Years," when he left college to run the farm after Jonathan's death and shied away from the destiny that awaited — even as he developed super-breath, encountered more of his future Justice League teammates, rounded up escaped Phantom Zone prisoners, and looked after Kara Zor-El. Then, they enter the Metropolis Years, aka the final era of the show, in which Clark started working at the Daily Planet, embarked on a romantic relationship with Lois, developed a dual superhero identity (The Blur), and — at long last — reconciled both of his worlds before taking flight as Superman."A Superboy Fan Journey" Chapter XVIII.Support the show and receive exclusive podcast content at Patreon.com/AnthonyDesiato, including the spinoff podcasts BEYOND METROPOLIS and DIGGING FOR JUSTICE!Visit BCW Supplies and use promo code FSP to save 10% on your next order of comics supplies. X-Men Movie gets a Writer, Supergirl gets a Premiere Date, Dune: Prophecy Releases a Trailer, and IF's hype may have been imaginary

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional Universes. Milly Alcock will show us her superhero landing when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow premieres on June 26, 2026. Other than Sasha Calle's portrayal in The Flash, this means we'll see Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El on the big screen for the first time since 1984. The film will be released just a year after we see James Gunn's vision for the man of steel himself.  In a move that seems telling of the new direction of MCU, the Marvel Television banner has been reintroduced and will be used for live action series such as Daredevil: Born Again, Agatha All Along, and Ironheart. The banner was previously used for MCU-adjacent shows Agents of SHIELD, Cloak & Dagger, and others. Brad Winderbaum, head of TV, streaming, and animation for Marvel Studios, said the idea is to let audiences know they can “jump in anywhere” in the MCU and still understand what's going on. Winderbaum also alluded to a Marvel Studios rebrand that encompasses Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, and Marvel Spotlight. HBO's streaming service Max released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Dune television spinoff show, Dune: Prophecy. The show is described as taking place 10,000 years before the events that lead to Paul Atreides' rise to emperor and will follow two Harkonnen sisters as they work to establish the Bene Gesserit. Inspired by the book Sisterhood of Dune, the show has mostly been kept under wraps until now. Movie goers probably should have bought a ticket for themselves and their imaginary friends last weekend as John Krasinski's new film IF didn't quite reach expectations with a $35 million opening in the U.S. Although this means it took first place at the box office, the movie cost $110 million to make and a global box office of $55 million is still a stumble. There may be hope yet for the kid-centered flick with a lot of schools across the country ready to enter summer break. Hot off the heels of an incredibly well received first season of X-Men '97, Marvel Studios seems to have found the voice of their live-action X-Men in screenwriter Michael Lesslie. Lesslie's writing credits include Assassin's Creed, The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, as well as the upcoming Now You See Me 3. While both parties are still in talks, if the addition pans out, it will be the most significant step to actualizing the X-Men in the MCU since Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019. Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne has joined the cast of Fantastic Four in an undisclosed role. Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen's assassin character, Caine. Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table. 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore is officially getting a sequel at Netflix with Adam Sandler returning to reprise his role. Amazon's Marvel drama Silk: Spider Society — from Sony Pictures Television — is no longer moving forward at the streamer but Sony does plan to shop the series to another studio or streaming service. Sony Pictures announced last week that I Know What You Did Last Summer, a reboot of the film with the same name as the original 1997 horror slasher, is set for theatrical release domestically on July 18, 2025. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are currently in early talks to return. Last week, Disney announced that Hulu is teaming with the estate of author James Clavell to extend the FX series Shōgun for two additional seasons. A writer's room is currently being assembled. Shōgun is currently the most viewed show in FX's history.
