Hi...We're Chris and Andrew. We watch bad movies. Well mostly bad. One day we thought that, perhaps, other people might enjoy what we had to say about said movies. I know I know...ridiculous. Yet here we are, audibly spewing our thoughts and musings in the general direction of your tender ear holes.…

http://www.searchforschlock.com/media/podcasts/sfs-160-Demoni2.mp3 Download MP3 Remember when we watched a little Italian horror film by the name of Demoni? I didn't think you would ... but we did ... and now we watch the sequel. I should have put a few question marks at the end of that last sentence. Not because I'm confused as to whether or not we watched it. We watched the hell out of it. Rather I'm still a little confused by what Italian horror film auteurs consider a sequel. Demoni 2 was a little bit sequel, a little bit remake, and a little bit ... homage? Either way, it was full of disgusting zombie/demons killing and killing and melting and killing. Viva Italia! Also, my girlfriend and avid listener of Search for Schlock, Laurie, joins us as our special guest. Yes, she actually wanted to sit in a room with me Andrew and James. She's a keeper. You get Maniac Cop ... and yes it's pretty much what you think it would be. We had a lot of fun with this one though. It's a late 80's thriller-tastic. Chock-full of gritty crime-ridden streets with an overlay of creepy music we've come to love from the era. Also, let's not forget Z'Dar's jaw ... it is a character in itself. Join us and you too can hear James sing his made up Maniac Cop theme. What more could you ask for? Nothing so don't.Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

http://www.searchforschlock.com/media/podcasts/sfs-158-HawkJones.mp3 Download MP3 In 1986, two teenage brothers in the Quad Cities -- inspired by a Bill Cosby Jell-O commercial featuring kids dressed up like grownups (possibly this one?) -- decided to make a gritty action drama with nothing but child actors. The mere fact that they succeeded, and that their fully-realized feature film exists, is incredible. The fact that the movie is actually pretty competent -- we especially love the score, which riffs on Miami Vice -- should have been enough to elevate Hawk Jones to at least cult status. Unfortunately the finished product was lost for years, apparently because distributors had some kind of problem with the premise of a child playing a cop loaded up with machine guns, storming a mansion guarded by other well-armed children. Perhaps because those companies lacked vision, they eventually shuttered, and now Hawk Jones can be enjoyed by all. We give it our highest possible rating: "Probably better than Action Jackson."Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

It's so much more than that, though. Swayze plays a wandering swordsman named, of course, Nomad, who finds himself in the plot of Shane, but after the apocalypse. Sure, Nomad would prefer to just do headstands in the desert and meditate, but that peace is taken from him when his mentor is murdered by what appears to be the frontman for an 80s hair metal band. To get his revenge, he'll have to befriend a terrible child actor. We liked the movie at the time...although I have to admit, writing about it now, it's not ringing any bells.Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

Sixteen years after the hazily-remembered original, a film that Criterion Collection once pretended they were going to release as an April Fools Day prank? And the answer is yes, I'm afraid so. Starring genius-on-paper Dolph Lundgren, the film follows a cop who has to go undercover as a kindergarten teacher to, I don't know, find some evidence or something. The real aim of the film seems to be for Dolph Lundgren to mug about how lame it is that kids these days are taught liberal garbage like inclusivity and self-respect, so that we the audience can nod our heads and, I assume, harbor an intense loathing of transgendered people. However, since the film is, at times, unintentionally hilarious, at least one of us rated it "a thousand thumbs up". Take that as you will.Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

Here, Band and Busey take us on a cinematic journey that Wikipedia very, very generously describes as "75 minutes." Maybe they were watching the Director's Cut, because the version we saw was one thin hour. Not that we're complaining. A movie's length is the inverse of the quality it needs to be for us to be entertained -- you know this, we've discussed this. By that measure, Gingerdead Man delivers. That's the pull quote on this one. I, being Andrew, think Jon Waters is a unique voice in cinema whose love of camp, 1950s aesthetics, and his own bizarre friends group makes his whole body of work, if not always stellar, at least always worth watching. I'm don't want to spoil Chris and James's reaction, but let's say they don't see it that way. Surely, After Last Season is a tale as old as time: two scientists experimenting with a device that can transmit mental images accidentally solve a murder, and then are attacked by a ghost, but actually that was all a dream, but there is a ghost and it is a friendly ghost, and they help it solve its murder. What really leaves a strong impression, though, is the visual effects, which would have been top-of-the-line stuff in the late 1970s, but in 2009 it's closer to what you might be able to make with a free trial version of some particularly cheap software on a computer that's still running Windows 95. It probably took auteur Mark Region quite a while to put it all together, which makes you wonder why the sets appear to just be rooms in an unfurnished apartment with pieces of paper taped to the walls. Admittedly, Z'Dar isn't the top banana here -- that honor goes to Matt Hannon, a man with beautiful, dark, flowing hair, who -- upon learning that Samurai Cop had achieved cult status, and that fans believed he was probably dead -- revealed himself to be very much alive, and starred in a recent sequel alongside infamous goofball / auteur Tommy Wiseau. If Seinfeld had aired in the 70s, it couldn't have done the "Puffy Shirt" episode, because people would have been like, "I don't get it, that shirt looks great." But this movie is confusing and weird by even our standards. And we can't even blame it on the filmmakers this time, because it sounds like the book it's based on -- the first in a series! -- is even more bonkers. Clearly this is a movie in dire need of a modern reboot. We're talking franchise potential here people. I mean, a franchise that makes absolutely zero sense, but still. Franchise. It's produced by original Suspiria auteur Dario Argento and directed by Lamberto Bava, son of Argento rival and fellow gore master Mario Bava, so it has the pedigree. It has an apocalyptic punk vibe that would pair well in a double feature with Return of the Living Dead, which is one of our favorite movies of all time (which came out the same year). It's scary and funny and great, and you just have to watch it, and force your friends to watch it too. Yes, we had to drink more than our fair share of Coronas to get this far, but at last we can quaff the Belgian Ale that is Furious 7, a movie that ramps up even further the series's complete disregard of the original film's tone, and complete embrace of everything about the series that is senseless. Letty is back on the crew, but she still has amnesia, so Toretto takes her to Race Wars to jog her memory. That alone could be a whole movie, but it's like the D-plot here. The gang is recruited by superspy Kurt Russell to save a hacker from being kidnapped by terrorists, while simultaneously they're all being hunted down by crazed superhuman Jason Statham. The only way out of this fix is naturally going to involve driving a sports car through the top-floor window of a skyscraper and crashing it into another skyscraper, twice. Casting aside elements that once grounded the series -- realistic law enforcement tactics, arms that don't look like The Rock's arms, and gravity, to name three -- Fast Five steers hard into the most ridiculous elements of its past installments, bringing back discarded characters from already-forgotten past installments and making it clear that the barely-relevant events of Tokyo Drift have not yet occurred. Well, now it's a franchise about not those people driving fast cars around corners! In what F&tF fans unanimously agree is either the worst or the best (trust me, some people actually think this) entry in the series, Lucas Black is Sean Boswell, a 17-year-old high-school student played by a 24-year-old who looks like he's in his late 30s, and whose Alabama accent is so stupid that it must be a cruel joke character that he does, like Larry the Cable Guy or something. His chronic delinquency gets him shipped out to the mean streets of Tokyo, where he immediately gets on the bad side of some scary kid whose uncle is in the Yakuza or something. And the only solution...is driving fast cars...around corners. There's actually a lot of interesting stuff to talk about with Tokyo Drift -- the introduction to the series of director Justin Lin and recurring character Han Seoul-Oh, the dialed-down homoeroticism and the dialed-way-up objectification of female characters, the parts where they drive cars around corners really fast -- but what fascinates us the most is how this entry later fits into the overall series's suddenly-very-convoluted continuity. We'd skip it if we could, but it's going to become a hinge around which the entire franchise rotates, which is both inexplicably insane and also perfectly fitting.Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

/media/podcasts/sfs-130-StewardessSchool.mp3 Download MP3 There comes a time in every podcasters life when he or she realizes .... ENOUGH! Or at least enough for now. Ladies and gentleman this weeks webipod marks our fifth anniversary. That is five god damned years of bringing you over 130 episodes of us droning on about terrible (but sometimes great) films. A lot in our lives have changed. A lot is on our respective plates. Andrew for instance has 20 children now and is planning on opening his own circus to showcase them. We need a break. So this episode marks the beginning of a hiatus for Search for Schlock. A hiatus of undetermined length. I could give you the details but we don't have many to give if I'm being honest ... and more will be discussed within the episode itself. So without further adieu I bring you Stewardess School. The most ridiculous film ever made about ... Stewardesses. One of Andrews all time favorite bad films and frankly a fitting flick to end five years of crap. As well as a trivia game complete with cheesy buzzers testing me and Andrews knowledge of our own crappy show. (James you outdid your self buddy). It is one of the most memorable episodes to date ... says me. I'll let the episode elaborate further ... along with our thoughts on the hiatus. Just listen!!Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

It certainly wasn't the worst movie we've endured. It's simple another in a long line of boring ... not that great ... not that unique ... Charles Band films. The Alchemist! Charles who we discovered was the director of a film called The Gingerdead Man starring Gary Busey. About a gingerbread man who murders ... so yeah. There is a definite level of quality one comes to expect. No alchemists harmed during the filming of this webipod ... just the continuing deterioration of two podcasters souls ... In this weeks webipod we watch what could only have been a cocaine fueled fever dream come to fruition. There is disco! There is roller boogie-ing! There is Linda Blair! ... and this guy!! To be honest it was a lot of fun and we go on for maybe a little too long. About Roller Boogie and many other random points of interest ... points of interest to no one but us more than likely, but hey you knew what you were getting into. Also I leave in a little extra audio that I would normally delete when editing this podcast. http://searchforschlock.com/media/podcasts/sfs-126-SoundOfThunder.mp3 Download MP3 Now I wouldn't go so far as to say this is THE worst film we've watched during our illustrious webipod career ... but god damn if it ain't close. Despite the pull on funding part way through the post production process (causing the comically bad CG) this film is just a general mess. The story makes no sense ... the quasi science makes NO sense ... and the casting is dubious at best. Ben Kingsley being the only thing that saves us from the wicked queer "science" of one Edward Burns. While the film is barely in the vicinity of the original short story plot line ... I feel like Ray was doing somersaults in his grave while this was, briefly, in the theaters. Ah well ... James strikes again. Wacky, zany, and fun (albeit a bit dated and misogynistic) it's hard not to enjoy the ridiculous and cartoon antics of this film. Good old fashion 80's nudity, for no damn reason, mixed with circumstances and jokes that only make sense if you're in a Warner Bros cartoon. There were long stretches of time with nothing to do while being sequestered at said station. They often amused themselves by treating interns with scorn and ridicule to while away the hours. Yet once there was an intern with merit. An intern who gave the give of film. The gift ... of Death Wish. Soon Chris and Andrew would embark on a journey through four amazingly good yet often terrible action flicks. Reveling in the violent actions of one Charles Bronson. http://searchforschlock.com/media/podcasts/sfs-122-Schlock.mp3 Download MP3 BANANA MONSTER! I wanted to hate this weeks webipod. For both the usual reasons and far more legitimate ones. I have always had a bit of a love hate relationship with John Landis. On one hand he made An American Werewolf in London. On the other hand there was the whole death of Vic Morrow and two children ... thing. Yet whatever sins Mr. Landis may have to live with one of them is not this film. Schlock was a surprisingly funny, low budget, zany romp. Paying homage to early Hollywood monster films ... the type we grew up watching on MST3K ... and infusing a little Woody Allen comic timing. James broke his streak of terrible film suggestions with this one and we all found ourselves enjoying life for a few hours. Don't worry fans ... I'm sure we'll both hate and question the very reason we do this next week!Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

Let's not mince words: this is the blaxploitation ripoff of The Exorcist, and yes, it's quite a bit more entertaining than the original, if not as prestigious. Although, White Exorcist (as it will now be known) doesn't feature the guy who played Blacula, so, take that, White Exorcist. There's only one question we leave unanswered in this webipod: should this film be referred to as "The Blexorcist", or "The Blaxorcist"? We recognize that this is a personal decision that we each must make for ourselves, but we hope that you make the right choice, listener. Original post located at searchforschlock.com.
