By Eli Allan. Music by Esme. Transcript: stationarcadia.wixsite.com/podcast/transcripts The biggest question I've asked myself about Station Arcadia over the years is “Why am I doing this?”. This is also something that Kass questions. How do we measure the value of our actions? How do we judge if something is ‘worth it'? A worthy use of time, of effort… If we can only know in retrospect, based on how it turns out, then we'll never, ever, know whether our choices in the present moment are actually “worth it”. So that can't be the right way to measure… It's intensely gratifying that as of September 2025, Station Arcadia has accumulated over 200 000 listens. We also won a few internet podcast awards, received fan-art and commentary, and even presented at a (virtual) convention once. We earned enough money through merch and our patreon to pay cast and crew members a non embarrassing honorarium. I'm extremely proud of how far we came. I tried to honour the arcpod team in wrapping up the project as I have. Maybe that answers my question. I'm not sure. If you've enjoyed Station Arcadia and have the means, please consider donating to our fundraiser for Trans Lifeline. https://give.translifeline.org/fundraiser/6702350 Social Theory Sources/Further Reading: Delanty, G., & Harris, N. Some podcast apps may not display links from our show notes properly, so we have included a list of links at the end of this description. * In Dr. John J. Prendergast's decades of experience as a psychotherapist and spiritual teacher, the area of the body that's most difficult for people to connect with—given our survival fear and trauma—is our physical and energetic ground. In his work, he finds this area in the lower belly and at the base of the spine remains largely unconscious and deeply defended by most individuals, while most spiritual traditions tend to avoid or undervalue the opening of the ground. * However, with the correct understanding and quality of attention, we can consciously open our multidimensional ground and, as a result, experience a felt-sense of inner safety and stability that supports the full flowering of inner peace, freedom, and loving awareness—a truly embodied spirituality. * In this episode, Dr. Prendergast is joined in a conversation with CIIS core faculty in the graduate department of East-West Psychology Dr. Sara Max Granovetter that dives deep into our personal, archetypal, and universal ground. Sharing insights from his years working in sensing and inquiry practices as well as his latest book, Your Deepest Ground, Dr. Prendergast explains how we can begin to see through the false ground of our early conditioning and limited identity. * This episode was recorded during an in-person and live streamed event at California Institute of Integral Studies on May 29th, 2025. We are living in a world where the depths of division, violence, and destruction can no longer be ignored. Escalated forms of harm require an equally escalated response. Yet social movements often use tactics that tend to escalate an “us vs. them,” “right vs. wrong” worldview not conducive to healing. Activist, trainer, and practitioner of nonviolence and restorative justice Kazu Haga argues this binary worldview is at the heart of what is destroying both our relationships and our planet. If healing is our goal, we need social movements that center relationships. * In this episode, Kazu is joined by Assistant Professor at California Institute of Integral Studies in the Somatic Psychology Department Deanna Jimenez for an inspiring conversation exploring insights from his decades of work in restorative justice and from his latest book Fierce Vulnerability. Kazu invites you to mobilize the power to stop harm by cultivating love to heal it. * This episode was recorded during an in-person and live streamed event at California Institute of Integral Studies on May 8th, 2025. For the first time in a long time, Gobbledygeek dips its beak back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They've done so for a very special film: Jake Schreier's Thunderbolts*, a return to the MCU's past glories with a tale of outcasts looking for something to believe in. Yelena Belova, the Winter Soldier, U.S. Agent, Red Guardian, Ghost, and Taskmaster come together to form a new kind of Avengers team; one formed under the auspices of none other than Elaine Benes. Paul, Arlo, and Eric–our own band of lovable misfits–discuss Florence Pugh's killer performance, the lovable David Harbour, what Thunderbolts* does differently than most recent MCU films, and much, much more. NEXT: we enter VAL-halla for a second Val Kilmer double feature. This time, it's 1986's Tony Scott pro-war classic Top Gun and 1988's Ron Howard (???) Lord of the Rings rip-off, Willow. Dr. Colleen Reichmann—a clinical psychologist, author, and eating disorder specialist—joins me this week to talk about hopelessness and despair in eating disorder recovery. We explore how disordered eating, body shame, and perfectionism can create a landscape of deep emotional pain—and how that pain can lead to thoughts of giving up.Gentle Content Warning: This episode includes a nuanced discussion about suicidal ideation and eating disorders. It is hopeful, and without any graphic detail. That said, please take care while listening, and know that it's okay to skip this one or come back to it when you're in a steadier place.Tune in for more on:* How common it is to feel deep despair in recovery* Personality traits that fuel hopelessness in eating disorders* Nutrition, physiology, and how undernourishment affects mood* The role of relationships in either deepening isolation or offering a lifeline* How anti-fat bias and weight stigma compound psychological suffering* How to hold hope while you're struggling* The false timeline of recovery and the importance of “invisible” progress* Support strategies that center validation over toxic positivity* How clinicians, friends, and loved ones can stay present in the discomfortIf you're struggling, you are not alone—support is available (see resources below).Dr. Reichmann is a licensed clinical psychologist in Philadelphia, PA, and the founder of Wildflower Therapy LLC. This is the CIIS Public Programs Podcast, featuring talks and conversations recorded live by California Institute of Integral Studies, a non-profit university located in San Francisco on unceded Ramaytush Ohlone Land. * Shaped by her own experience with the death of her father and her time co-founding The Dinner Party, a leading peer-support organization for people who've experienced a major loss, author facilitator Carla Fernandez's work pushes back on the death-denying culture we live in. For too long, grief has been treated as something pitiable, simply sad, to be gotten over as soon as possible. But after 15 years of being in a community with fellow grievers, Carla has witnessed a different side of the story. * In this episode, Carla is joined by licensed marriage and family therapist and CIIS Associate Professor in Community Mental Health Gary Quan for a conversation viewing significant loss not as something to be swept under the rug, but an experience to be held with respect, a creative spirit, and with friends. Drawing from her work and her latest book, Renegade Grief, Carla shares inspiring stories of real grievers, patterns from across history, and fresh science. * This episode was recorded during a live online event on April 23rd, 2025.
