PLAYPOD 15.02 15.07.22 DJ RUSS RICH (SFO) Russ Rich is one of San Francisco’s most versatile DJs. Early on in his DJ career, he became known for his happy and uplifting vocal style. After several years spinning local bars and T-Dances, he graduated to headliner status, playing peak time sets at clubs like “Industry” at Mighty, “Hero” at Ruby Skye, and “Colossus” at 1015 Folsom. In 2011, Russ won “San Francisco’s Next Top DJ” competition, and in 2013, he won a nationwide contest for Gay Internet Radio Live. That same year, Russ was named Resident DJ for PLAY T-Dance, held annually following the Up Your Alley Street Fair. Recently, Russ began producing remixes of Coldplay, Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato, Peyton, 7th Heaven and Carlos Gallardo. Growing up in rural Nebraska tends to make one’s musical interest lean a certain way. But even at a young age, Byron knew there was more to music than what he heard on the local country western radio stations. It was in junior high that Byron DJ’d his first dance with his cousin. Even then his eclectic taste in music came out (Star Wars Theme by Meco anyone?). After moving to San Francisco, Byron stated taking in the sights and sounds of such parties as MASS and CLUB UNIVERSE, all having a huge impact on him. Byron has developed the philosophy of keep the crowd moving and make sure they leave with a smile. His mix of equal parts upbeat house, anthems, and progressive sounds (with a splash of disco and trance) has earned him a faithful following. He quickly fell for the harder side of dance music and became a regular at underground raves held in the Arizona desert. In the summer of 2000, he moved to San Francisco and was transformed by the diverse local dance scene, which includes parties like Universe, Pleasuredome, Mass, Fag Fridays, and Trannyshack. After a year of immersing himself in San Francisco's vibrant nightlife Steve bought a pair of Technics turntables off of Craigslist and began crafting his own unique sound that incorporates elements of vocal, disco, tribal, and progressive house with occasional forays into techno and trance. A decade later he finds himself bringing his signature sound to a diverse set of parties around the globe. Recent appearances include REAL BAD XXIII, Tonker London, Industry, Disco Cherry, PLAY T-Dance, Los Angeles Pride, REACH Pride T-Dance, and Gus Presents.
