This 5th edition of Essential Kylie Minogue focuses predominantly on tracks released from her albums 'X', 'Aphrodite', 'Kiss Me Once' and 'Golden'. All of the remixes on this edition lean more towards the big room and circuit sound. Tracks such as "New York City" & "Kiss Me Once" get excellent remixes from Toy Armada & DJ GRIND as does "Beautiful" her collaboration with Enrique Iglesias. "Love At First Sight" and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" get updated remixes from Dario Xavier. If you've attended any circuit even in the last 10 years, you've undoubtedly danced to the euphoric sounds of Toy Armada and DJ Grind. During the late 90's and early millennium, DJs became household names in the likes of Hex Hector, Thunderpuss, Victor Calderone, and Jonathan Peters. With their signature big room sound filled with tribal beats and uplifting and joyful anthems, Toy Armada and DJ Grind has taken over the mantle once held by Thunderpuss (a.k.a. Barry Harris and Chris Cox) as the go-to producers for many of the top pop and dance artists. The two had met after DJ Grind sent an email to Toy suggesting they work together on a remix for the Kimberly Locke tune called "Feel the Love" (featured in this set). That track went to #1 in the UK which solidified a partnership that has proven to be successful beyond anything they probably could have imagined. Over the course of two volumes, Party Favorz explores the musical journey these guys have taken for 10 years and counting. Since Toy Armada had already established himself prior to working with DJ Grind and continues to put out his own releases, I've included many of his remixes as well which compliment their overall style. It's with much love and respect for the work these guys do in fulfilling our lives with joy and happiness that uplifts our spirits on the dancefloor that I add them to our Legacy series for their amazing contributions to dance music for the masses. If you've attended any circuit even in the last 10 years, you've undoubtedly danced to the euphoric sounds of Toy Armada and DJ Grind. During the late 90's and early millennium, DJs became household names in the likes of Hex Hector, Thunderpuss, Victor Calderone, and Jonathan Peters. With their signature big room sound filled with tribal beats and uplifting and joyful anthems, Toy Armada and DJ Grind has taken over the mantle once held by Thunderpuss (a.k.a. Barry Harris and Chris Cox) as the go-to producers for many of the top pop and dance artists. The two had met after DJ Grind sent an email to Toy suggesting they work together on a remix for the Kimberly Locke tune called "Feel the Love" (featured in this set). That track went to #1 in the UK which solidified a partnership that has proven to be successful beyond anything they probably could have imagined. Over the course of two volumes, Party Favorz explores the musical journey these guys have taken for 10 years and counting. Since Toy Armada had already established himself prior to working with DJ Grind and continues to put out his own releases, I've included many of his remixes as well which compliment their overall style. It's with much love and respect for the work these guys do in fulfilling our lives with joy and happiness that uplifts our spirits on the dancefloor that I add them to our Legacy series for their amazing contributions to dance music for the masses. Given the erratic weather we've been experiencing, the title is a bit misleading. Last week we were in a deep freeze for several days followed by unseasonably warm weather. Now, things have tamped down a bit with cooler temps but it feels more like spring a whole month before we normally would. For now, we'll just pretend it's winter because it most definitely is in certain parts of the country and the world. Maybe, I'll start calling these the Global Warming edition as it relates to each edition in this series LOL. In the interim, here at Party Favorz it's time to get this party started! Finally kicking the year off, I'm dropping the hottest collection of Circuit Tribal House music that's buzzing RIGHT NOW! It takes me a while to move into a different mindset after my entire focus had been trying to overhaul the site. Now that everything has been completed to my satisfaction, I can safely declare that I am back in the saddle again. GIDDYUP! In an ongoing effort to play catch-up, I've scheduled the next EDM Dance Club, Funky Disco House, and Underground House sets to drop over the next several weeks. Hey All, I’d like to write a very special thank you to everyone who came out for Halloween New Orleans this year. It was truly one of the most amazing nights of my DJ career to date and Saturday night’s “Fall of the Pharaohs” event was definitely one for the record books. I felt like Daft Punk spinning in that pyramid. I don’t always post my sets, but this one I did indeed record. I almost titled this latest Podcast "Brrrr, it's cold in here…." in honor of my east coast brethren, but let's face it: it's really not that cold in LA… like, ever. I'm back from my whirlwind tour of ski resorts – I've been on the road for the past 5 weekends from Aspen to Park City to Whistler to Tahoe – and I finally had some time to get my latest Podcast recorded. Daylight Saving Time is over and the days are getting shorter. The holiday decorations are coming out way too quickly, the turkeys are running for their lives and everyone's cuddling up a little closer with that person they want to spend winter huddled indoors with. Thanks to Barry Harris' early morning drop of Michael Jackson's “Thriller” on his Soundcloud page, I was forced to postpone the Halloween Edition 2K14 until now. Mind you, I ain't complaining because his tribal anthem of Michael's classic is EPIC! Besides, this wouldn't exactly be a “Halloween” set if it didn't contain at least one reference to the holiday (without all the stupid spooky filler crap most DJs sneak into their sets). Then again, Halloween always affords me the creativity to make cover art with a hot zombie or guy covering up his junk with a pumpkin LOL. Cast all that aside and what you have is one MONSTER of a set with the biggest tribal anthems of the moment. In short, no tricks …just treats. It's Friday night and I've got other business to attend to, so I'm gonna keep this short. Hope everyone gets out and has a frighteningly fun-filled weekend. Do everything I would do and then some! Mind you, I ain't complaining because his tribal anthem of Michael's classic is EPIC! Besides, this wouldn't exactly be a “Halloween” set if it didn't contain at least one reference to the holiday (without all the stupid spooky filler crap most DJs sneak into their sets). Then again, Halloween always affords me the creativity to make cover art with a hot zombie or guy covering up his junk with a pumpkin LOL. Cast all that aside and what you have is one MONSTER of a set with the biggest tribal anthems of the moment. In short, no tricks …just treats. I'm talking about bodies movin, non-stop groovin, asses shakin, floors are breakin, queens are freakin, ho's are creepin, divas flowing and did I mention HOT COWBOYS? LOL You'll notice a familiar trend throughout this set as there is one common denominator holding this shit together …Mr. Barry Harris or Mr. Harris one half of the AWESOME Thunderpuss team, but only if you're nasty. Lately, gurrrlfriend has been on FIRE! Just make sure to keep him out of the ice-bucket challenge; we don't wanna cool down his streak. Barry takes on the Zedd produced track “Break Free” by Ariana Grande and pumps in some classic Thunderpuss beats while keeping it fresh with an updated sound for today's floors. Watch out for the amazing piano breakdown; you'll think he mashed it up with some early Mariah but it's pure Ariana. Equally, he attacked the classic “Stranger in My House” by Tamia and updated the original Thunderpuss mix from back in the day with fresh new beats and another delicious piano breakdown 2/3 of the way in. Barry also pumps up the deep house hit “Hideaway” by Canadian newcomer Keisza. Using Antoine Clamaran's classic “Dr. Drum” as inspiration, he pulls us in slowly until all hell breaks loose towards the end. Listening to the original, I would have never thought to match the two songs up but shit if it doesn't work! Joe Gauthreaux is currently riding high with his tweaky “Bye Felicia.” The whole package comes with a bucket full of stealthy remixes for the floor, but the one that caught my attention the most was by Wayne G. Listen close folks, there's a solid mashup with Kim English's “Unspeakable Joy” or even Madonna's “Beautiful Stranger” in there just begging to happen. I'm just sayin. As I write this, Party Favorz girlfriend Erika Jayne is sitting on top the Billboard Club Play charts with her latest “PAINKILLR.” While it took me a while to get into this song, after a few spins I've been all over it. Mike Cruz channels his inner Danny Verde and spins the song into a dark, tribal progressive monster that just sucks you in and squeezes tight. As usual, I like to try to close these sets out on a sunny note. While I realize I've been beating this dead horse since early Summer, I was waiting for the final mixes to drop for this 80s classic. Specifically, I was waiting for 7th Heaven's version, which did not disappoint. Kon Kan (an early project of …you guessed it, Barry Harris) had a major hit with “I Beg Your Pardon.” The song hooks itself around a big synthesized loop, which 7H stayed true to while sampling the early 70s country classic “Rose Garden” by Lynn Anderson. The only thing these guys left out was the GQ “rock-freak” drop in the middle of the song; likely for licensing reasons. No problem, your humble host put it back in for ya making this a truly remarkable update for those who fondly remember the original. And, if you don't, get into it. This is going to be it for September so I can start working on the new premium content version of this site. I've already hit a few stumbling blocks, but I'm fairly certain I'll figure it out. I'm also about to start taking some coding courses to get myself up to speed in CSS and Java. Who knows, maybe I'll make an app ya'll buy one day and retire off of that LOL. Summer is finally here! Pride season is always an exciting time of year to me, but this year I've been feeling an especially strong amount of emotion. I just turned 38 this month, and I think the combination of being firmly in my late-30's now and having just finished riding my 7th AIDS/LifeCycle has got me thinking deeply about a lot of things. I was (as many were) recently moved by the powerful message that the world got from watching HBO's "The Normal Heart." And then again watching HBO's "The Case Against 8" this week, on the eve of the marriage of Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami. I feel tremendous change in my approach towards interpersonal relationships right now as well — with an eye out towards both friendships and romantic love... with changing priorities in my life's work. Maybe it's just Mercury in retrograde, but right now I'm just feeling very deeply. I express a lot of that through music. Music is the motivation that keeps me going. Music is the crutch that supports me through long days. Music is the outlet that allows me to vent and to be creative. So with this podcast, I want to celebrate the beauty that exists in loving each other… in finding love in all of its strange forms and remembering what it means to love one another. Oh, HAPPY GAY DAYS are here again! It's the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, the last Monday of May and the official kick-off to June Pride Month! There are a whole host of gay happenings this weekend throughout the U.S. most notably in Pensacola, the one place to be if you're on the east coast. The official Gay Days in Orlando kicks-off on June 3rd and it appears this year they are expanding the brand to include Ft. Lauderdale and Las Vegas (the latter increasingly becoming a very gay destination for us gay folk). In an effort to ensure you have everything you need this weekend, Party Favorz is putting out a set of tribal-lust that's certain to get you all pumped up for whatever your plans are this weekend. The adorable Jason Walker kicks the set off with his remake of the Taylor Dayne classic Tell It To My Heart, a song that is so steeped in 80s dance it would be hard to imagine anyone tackling this song and making it fresh but leave it to Jason to pull it off. Toy Armada and DJ Grind who have been spitting out a dizzying whirl of fresh productions take the prize with their big room circuit rendition of the song. Though, I have to give major props to DJ Yiannis who delivers an 80s revival with a millennial twist in his production. Andy Bell, one half of Erasure puts out a fresh original with Dave Aude at the helm that's destined for big things on the dance floor this summer season. Ralphi Rosario gives the song his signature electro-tribe feel but watch out for Australia's duo Denzal Park who pack in a massive EDM production, which is going to appear on our set coming out next weekend. Danny Verde is still keeping things strong with two fresh mash-ups; one from Queen Madonna's Vogue and the other with the CeCe Peniston house classic Finally. Our good friend Joel Dickinson also put out his own Pride mix of Finally, which is equally good and may very well find it's way onto an upcoming Pride Classic set coming your way very soon. Matt Consola who is all over the place these days brings us no less than three burners, which washes down like an ice-cold beer on a hot summer day. One of my biggest delights and surprise finds is Division 4 (formerly Red Tape) who works with Matt on a couple of songs but more importantly, has a HUGE library of amazing 80s and 90s reworks on his SoundCloud page. It's a wonder how he's been kept a secret for so long. These mixes are parked right next to his excellent productions of current hits so you can trust when I say you'll be seeing more of his work on this site in future sets. There are so many variations of the Winter Edition cover I could have gone with this year. Given the controversy surrounding the Gay Olympics this year, Sochi would have been an obvious choice as would Mardi Gras. For that matter, the massive cold weather we've experienced this year as both poles of the earth becomes warmer the colder air filters down into the Americas but that's not very sexy. Instead, I chose Valentines. Look at it this way, this could be seen as support for marriage equality, our love for all things Olympics and the athletes that compete in them or even our love of the debauchery that takes place in New Orleans at the end of the month. Take your pic! Frankly, I'm leaning towards debauchery and hedonism, which is always more fun [grin]. It’s been while since I’ve gotten a new podcast out the door – in fact, this is my first of summer 2013. I suppose it’s a blessing that I’ve been working so much (both DJing and in my full-time job as a journalist), that I haven’t really had time to crank ‘em out like I had been a year ago. I’ve been in a weird transition period as a DJ recently in terms of defining my sound. From the first time I finally spun an after hours party last fall, I’m learning that deep down I’m a big room guy – I prefer a more driving and dramatic sound to lighter fare. But I’m not a strictly tribal after-hours guy like Paulo or Abel, or a circuit peak king like Joe Gauthreaux or Danny Verde — I’m not an awesome tea dance master like Wayne G or Grind, or an EDM strictest like Nicky Romero or Alesso (all of whom are some of the DJ’s that I admire the most right now and love to hear out live often). Being the Gemini that I am, I have a really hard time picking one sound and sticking to it. And in that, I’m finding that which truly is my own sound. I love pop music and I love wordless tribal beats, I have gay and straight influences, and I can’t play only male or female vocals (although being gay, I’ve always loved a good screaming diva!). And lord knows, I can’t stick with a decade — you’ll yet again hear at least something in here from each of the past five of ‘em. Through it all, I came of age in New York City, so I’ll always be partial to a classic house 4/4 beat, no matter how it’s dressed up. What you won’t hear are remixes from any of the DJs whom I’ve historically been most influenced by — in the SoundCloud age, all DJs have access to a panoptic of sounds that range from official commissions to tracks put together by a teenager in their mom’s basement. There’s a new guard rising, but top talent always shines through. With the exception of a few songs, many of these remixes are by folks I’ve never used before. This podcast reflects my schizophrenia a bit, and yet I was totally conscious about its bi-polar nature when I was laying it out and recording it. It’s almost like a wedding of my influences – what’s the saying? — Something old, something new … something borrowed, something blue. I decided to start this one out very tribal in the first five tracks to build a foundation, but with a new take on some very classic and recognizable vocals. Then there’s a spurt of some new pop music, before I get into what I think is a very strong section of EDM-light (the type I love). From there I throw in a couple of more pop songs (with EDM-light remixes) before going into a few flashback tracks that you probably haven’t heard out anywhere in quite a while (a trademark of any one of my sets), before ending with five female vocals that have me singing out loud in the shower right now. And as always, my closing track might seem out of left field, but it’s the track I’m most likely to throw on at the end of the night just to make myself smile when I’m in the car driving home alone after a gig that just ended at 4 a.m. Without further delay, please enjoy a selection of tracks that have truly made the middle part of my summer ...
