For those who know Mark Nepo's work he needs no introduction. For those who are not yet familiar with his work, Mark Nepo has been called “one of the finest spiritual guides of our time,” “a consummate storyteller,” and “an eloquent spiritual teacher.” A bestselling author, he has published twenty-three books and recorded sixteen audio projects. His books have been translated into more than twenty languages. Recent work includes Surviving Storms (St. Martin's Essentials, 2020) and Drinking from the River of Light, a Nautilus Award Winner (Sounds True, 2019). I have been following Mark's work for over 30 years. Yet, I first connected with him when my music was used on his two audio programs for Sounds True, Reduced To Joy, and Inside The Miracle. Since then I have had the honor and privilege of being part of a number of his mentoring circles for authentic living. Mark has a unique capacity to bring the inevitable complexities, challenges and inherent paradoxes of life into an intimate, clear and accessible focus through the power of story, metaphor and his timeless poetry. In this episode, we dive into his most recent book, "Surviving Storms: Finding the Strength to Meet Adversity". It's as all of his books a powerful, deeply intimate read about becoming truly ourselves in times of adversity, challenges and suffering. Today, more than ever, Mark's timeless wisdom is a welcome healing balm and lantern to light our way through the dark. Mark Nepo is an author, poet, philosopher, beloved teacher and cancer survivor who has, for thirty years, been exploring how we can stay awake and authentic when our wounds make us numb and hidden; how we can minimize what stands between us and our experience of life; how we can create a practice that wears down what thickens around our hearts and minds. And today we are going to talk to him about those very things, as we explore together the meanings and messages of his books, The Endless Practice and Reduced to Joy. The Endless Practice explores how the soul works in the world, and how by engaging our soul in the world, we are shaped by the endless practice of becoming who we were born to be. Reduced to Joy is a book of poems about the nature of working with what we are given until it wears us through to joy. This is a special opportunity to come closer to your own soul. Don't miss it.

Drishti Point Yoga and Spirituality

Often, what keeps us from joy is the menacing assumption that life is happening other than where we are. For years, I’ve been trying to explore and understand: How can we remember we are of one human family? How can we stay awake and authentic when our wounds make us numb and hidden? How can we minimize what stands between us and our experience of life? How can we make a practice of wearing down what thickens around our mind and heart? -Mark Nepo Listen to an insightful and delightful yoga podcast with Mark Nepo, spiritual writer, poet, philosopher, healing arts teacher, and cancer survivor. Mark speaks about his newest book of poetry, Reduced to Joy, his journey towards healing from cancer, joy, and the practices that can help keep us authentic, connected, and conscious of the Universal love that binds us all together.

CITED BY SPIRITUALITY & PRACTICE AS ONE OF THE BEST SPIRITUAL BOOKS OF 2013 Beloved as a poet, teacher, and storyteller, Mark Nepo, the New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Awakening, has been called "one of the finest spiritual guides of our time," "a consummate storyteller," and "an eloquent spiritual teacher." His many books have been translated into more than twenty languages.  Now in his sixties, he is publishing Reduced to Joy, a book of seventy-three poems, retrieved and shaped over the last thirteen years, about the nature of working with what we're given till it wears us through to joy.  About joy, Nepo says, "Often, what keeps us from joy is the menacing assumption that life is happening other than where we are." Of the book, he says, "Poetry is the well from which all my books rise.  It's where I always go to listen, always stunned by what arrives.  It's how I know the inner world.  I bring these poems back from the deep like shells from the sea that we can look at together." Profound and accessible, Nepo's poems are tools for staying close to what matters.
