We heard from Coach Rhule today!
The Husker247 Podcast gathered on Friday to discuss Nebraska's appearance at Big Ten Media Days and what was learned with a scant few sleeps before the start of fall camp. Michael Bruntz, Brian Christopherson and Mike Schaefer talked through how Las Vegas as a media days site went and then what stood out from Matt Rhule, Dylan Raiola and the rest of the representatives. Among the topics discussed were Nebraska's defensive line and the confidence Rhule has in a unit high on upside but lower on experience, Nebraska's running back picture and Raiola's leadership ahead of the 2025 season. Matt Rhule comments on the state of rest in the Big Ten, and ESPN is "very close" to acquiring NFL Media, and NFL Network.
Rhule said he knew when he took over in 2023 it would take a while to fix Nebraska and now it's “close to fixed”…we'll see if that is evident right away or not Rhule mentioned that he wouldn't have brought Dylan Raiola to Media Days if he wasn't proud of his work and the expectations set upon him, and what he Raiola did last year was really difficult.. Josh Peterson unveils the all new I-80 Football Show, a brand new podcast from the I-80 Club coming this season. Consider this the soft launch of what's to come, with regular episodes appearing each Thursday of the season starting on August 21st.On today's episode, Josh continues his look at Matt Rhule, year three at Nebraska, and what to expect, but with a twist; he looks back at the third seasons for Matt Rhule's squads at Temple and Baylor. First, John DiCarlo of OwlScoop.com joins the podcast (5:00) to discuss Rhule's early years at Temple and why the Owls were able to break through like they did in 2015. How surprised was he about what was to come? Were there signs along the way? And why was a Penn State win to start 2015 so key to their success? Then, Josh welcomes Sam Kahn Jr. of The Athletic to the pod (40:43) to discuss what it was like covering Rhule's Baylor years as a reporter for ESPN. What kind of program was he walking into in 2017 and how were they able to break through so strongly in 2019? Plus, Rhule's way of recruiting and identifying talent; what made the Bears so different from other schools? What is and isn't replicable for those years as it compares to Nebraska? Nebraska won 5 games in Rhule's first year, and won 7 games last year with the bowl win (6-6 regular season)…does that mean that 8 wins or more has to be the expectation? And why should that scare anyone, especially with a bowl game to possibly get the 8th win? If you look at the SP+ ratings, Nebraska is favored right now to win 8 of their 12 games (only underdogs to Michigan, Penn State, USC and Iowa) Show Sponsored by NEBCOOur Sponsors:* Check out Hims: https://hims.com/EARLYBREAKAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Huskers have just 12 commits for 2026. Is Matt Rhule asleep at the wheel—or five steps ahead of the game? In this episode of the Big Red Junkies, BJ, Jed, and Matt dive into what looks like a shockingly small recruiting class for Nebraska Football in 2026. But don't panic. The crew breaks down why this shift might be more about strategy than desperation. We hit on: Why the class might stay under 16 total commits Whether roster limits or a full cupboard of young talent is driving the small size How Matt Rhule is killing it at retaining players (no mass exodus like other programs) The new reality of recruiting through the transfer portal Why events like Nebraska's Adidas 7-on-7 tournament are low-key recruiting gold How long-term relationship building (like with Williams Nwaneri) is reshaping Husker targets What the staff gets right that past regimes never did—adaptation and branding And we couldn't help but rant about the flood of Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas gear in Omaha. Husker Nation's youth movement needs a damn spark—and Rhule might be the one to reignite it.

Ari once again has enraged the state of Nebraska, this time with a column criticizing Nebraska coach Matt Rhule's stance on the College Football Playoff.(0:00-0:43) Intro(0:44-22:30) Ari and the Nebraska Cornhuskers(22:31-24:48) Watch us on YouTube, Wrapping up Nebraska(24:49-41:51) CFP to adopt Straight-Seeding model(41:52-43:09) BYU QB Jake Retzlaff accused of sexual assault(43:10-1:01:53) Dear Andy & Ari: Accumulating top talent in the NIL Era(1:01:54-1:05:34) The Confidence in Arch Manning at Texas(1:05:35-1:09:00) Revisiting Ari's take on Alabama and Georgia(1:09:01-1:12:42) Wisconsin to play Notre Dame in Lambeau Field in 2026(1:12:43-1:13:49) Conclusion After a joke Rhule made about a 40-team playoff in an interview with HuskerOnline began circulating Wednesday, Ari wrote a column critical of Rhule's previously stated stance that it wasn't worth playing difficult non-conference games in the current system. To put it more bluntly, Ari called that attitude “soft.” Rhule and pretty much everyone else in Nebraska took offense, and it culminated in a conversation between Rhule and Ari that hopefully cleared the air. In other news, Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! reports that conference commissioners are expected to approve straight seeding for the 2025 playoff in a conference call Thursday. BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff has been accused of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit. It's also a Dear Andy/Dear Ari show, and you sent some great questions… Is Georgia coach Kirby Smart's philosophy of ensuring the proven players on his team make more than unproven freshmen a sound one? On this episode of Monday Night Therapy, Minnie Hunt hosted solo, engaging a lively chat community and reflecting on Nebraska football's offseason progress. She pieced together insights from Matt Rhule and Dylan Raiola, revealing a player-led leadership model driving unity and relentless summer training. Raiola identified a core group of seven leaders organizing offseason workouts and bonding activities, aiming to maximize performance and set a new standard of accountability. Minnie emphasized that summer preparation determines season success, echoing Rhule's belief that teams win championships through player-driven effort. The show also touched on the evolving college football landscape, including NIL concerns, the role of new oversight figures like Nick Saban and billionaire Cody Campbell, and discussions about playoff formats. Minnie and guest Aaron Rastovsky discussed Big Ten baseball tournament changes, Nebraska's playoff hopes, and the softball team's Super Regional bid. Light-hearted chat included humorous ideas to rename Monday Night Therapy and a story about Minnie visiting a “Mexican Hooters”-style restaurant. Minnie closed the show by expressing gratitude to the community, hinting at new energy for the program and show, and affirming her commitment to keeping fans informed and entertained through the offseason. The episode blended Husker analysis with community-driven fun and optimism.
Rhule was on the Husker Sports Network on Tuesday and mentioned that the final 3 games of 2024 (win over Wisconsin, loss to Iowa, win over Boston College) was the turning point the program needed---probably to prove they could win in late season games which hasn't happened for a long time. He also talked about reaction to adversity being important and that teams like Notre Dame and Ohio State had crushing losses last year and still made it to the finals…Nebraska doesn't have to let one game ruin their season. The guys start by studying Rhule's quotes, including a clarification on Dylan Raiola's body weight after last week's reaction. The two talk about the vibes around the program at the moment with several new staff members settling in and plenty of big roster decisions looming. Next, Sam and Evan discuss where NU has fallen short in Rhule's first two years, and some of the randomness that has partaken because of a missed kick, bad snap, or other specialist issues. The guys question whether all of the mistakes can be cleaned up by new coaches. The two look at where Nebraska will change its strategy, particularly in building around the quarterback and finding ways for Raiola to be more aggressive and hit big plays. The two end the episode with a look at Nebraska baseball's road trip that has plummeted the Huskers in the Big Ten standings and how the team can recover after another road loss Tuesday night.
