Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia continues to liven up the college football world, this time with a pledge on the Bussin' With The Boys podcast that after this season Vanderbilt will “run” the state of Tennessee. Cal athletic director Jim Knowlton retired with four years left on his contract, and it's clear that newly installed GM Ron Rivera — the former Panthers and Commanders head coach — has assumed the role Knowlton had when it comes to football. The SEC Spring Meetings are winding down in Destin, Florida, but Lane Kiffin didn't leave without sharing his thoughts on the state of college football and the College Football Playoff. The conversation around the 2025 college football season has centered on a few players — mostly new starting quarterbacks — but there are plenty of potentially great players we're not talking about. Today, they're in the spotlight.(0:00-0:59) Intro(1:00-9:22) Players we're not talking about: Ryan Wingo, Cam Coleman(9:23-11:50) Story Time(11:51-17:23) Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed(17:24-24:36) How good can Oregon be this year?(24:37-31:38) Miami's Outlook, Rueben Bain Jr.(31:39-35:10) Jadan Baugh at Florida(35:11-36:18) Nic Anderson, LSU(36:19-39:42) Max Klare at Ohio State(39:43-40:55) Where does JP Pickles play?(40:56-44:03) Dylan Raiola at Nebraska(44:04-45:43) Who do we talk about the most?(45:44-46:11) Conclusion: Happy Memorial Day! Ari believes Auburn receiver Cam Coleman could be a breakout star. He also thinks Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain could be a force now that he's fully healthy. Andy thinks Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed has been lost in the shuffle with all the talk about new starting QBs in the SEC. Reed will be the leader of Team Chaos, so he could play a very important role this season. Andy and Ari agree that Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman is a huge key to the Ducks' portal reload. To put it more bluntly, Ari called that attitude “soft.” Rhule and pretty much everyone else in Nebraska took offense, and it culminated in a conversation between Rhule and Ari that hopefully cleared the air. In other news, Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! reports that conference commissioners are expected to approve straight seeding for the 2025 playoff in a conference call Thursday. BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff has been accused of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit. It's also a Dear Andy/Dear Ari show, and you sent some great questions… Is Georgia coach Kirby Smart's philosophy of ensuring the proven players on his team make more than unproven freshmen a sound one? Miami has been very active in the spring transfer portal, grabbing multiple players who likely will wind up either starting or playing major roles for the Hurricanes this season. The latest is former Auburn DB Keionte Scott, who spent the spring at Houston but reunites with former Auburn and Houston secondary coach Zac Etheridge in Miami. The Hurricanes also have added former Texas kicker Bert Auburn, former North Dakota State tailback CharMar Brown, former N.C. State linebacker Kamal Bonner, former Cincinnati receiver Tony Johnson and former BYU receiver/kick returner Keelon Marion. Can the Hurricanes get to the College Football Playoff with this roster? Also, ESPN's Heather Dinich said Tuesday that the seeding still might change for the 2025 College Football Playoff. Everyone agrees the seeding should change, but for everyone outside the Big Ten and SEC there is little incentive to make that change for this year. Nick offers tips on who to bet in the Derby and in the undercard races on Saturday. Nick also breaks down Kentucky football in 2025. Andystapleson3@gmail.com We're still discussing Andy's post-spring top 25, and it's time to have an extended discussion about the team at No. 1. Texas is transitioning to Arch Manning as its starting quarterback, and the expectations are sky-high. But the discussion around where Quinn Ewers went in the draft has become a broader discussion about Texas and Manning, and Ari is fired up about the Manning bashing that has seeped into the conversation. Andy, meanwhile, is fascinated by the Arch Manning Paradox. Andy wrote about the SEC and the continuing debate over whether to add a ninth conference game. Now it seems the decision hinges on what the new College Football Playoff format looks like. North Carolina coach Bill Belichick's girlfriend Jordon Hudson continues to make news following a weird appearance on CBS Sunday Morning. He finally got picked Saturday by Cleveland in the fifth round, but the weirdest story in the draft took a bizarre turn Sunday when one of the people who prank-called Sanders on Friday night was revealed to be the son of the Falcons' defensive coordinator. The draft story that will become a more interesting college football story in December and January is what happened to Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. He was taken in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins, meaning he probably would have made far more in NIL money by transferring and playing another season of college football.Trebor Pena has decided he will be going to Penn State from Syracuse. We know who is going first (Miami QB Cam Ward) and we're pretty sure who is going second (Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter), but what happens after that is anyone's guess. How many QBs will go in the first round? The sports books have set the total at 2.5. Does that mean Ward, Shedeur Sanders and someone else? Could Louisville's Tyler Shough sneak in? Plus, Andy has some advice for the teams considering receivers: Don't overthink it. Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan was the only weapon on a bad team and still put up huge numbers. We also have quite a bit of college football news to discuss. The collective at Arkansas wants to collect a reported $200,000 from Madden Iamaleava after the freshman quarterback left last week to join his older brother Nico at UCLA. Meanwhile, the federal judge overseeing the House v. NCAA case issued an order Wednesday saying she'd blow up the proposed settlement if the NCAA doesn't phase in roster caps to keep athletes from getting cut from their teams because of the settlement. Joey Aguilar left UCLA on Monday and committed to Tennessee by Monday evening. He'll compete to replace Iamaleava, who left Tennessee for UCLA and took the job Aguilar had hoped to have. Meanwhile, Nico Iamaleava's younger brother Madden left Arkansas and will transfer to UCLA, the school he flipped away from on National Signing Day. Elsewhere in the transfer portal, former Syracuse receiver Trebor Pena is considering Penn State. This would be a huge pickup for the Nittany Lions, but they'll have to fight off Miami to get him.
