The new film Sheepdog was over a decade in the making. Writer, director, and star, Steven Grayhm, spent 14 years talking to veterans about their mental health struggles after returning home, and families of veterans who have taken their own lives. The film follows combat veteran, Calvin Cole (played by Grayhm), as he goes through court mandated therapy. His therapist, played by Oscar-nominated actor Virginia Madsen, is new to the job, still finishing her schooling. Madsen’s connection to the film is also a personal one. On FilmWeek, Larry Mantle speaks with filmmaker Steven Grayhm and actor Virginia Madsen about the making of Sheepdog and their respective emotional connections to the film. Sheepdog is playing in select theaters. Visit www.preppi.com/LAist to receive a FREE Preppi Emergency Kit (with any purchase over $100) and be prepared for the next wildfire, earthquake or emergency
In this Veterans Breakfast Club livestream, we sit down with filmmaker Steven Grayhm to talk about Sheepdog, an independent feature film that takes a hard, honest look at combat trauma, recovery, and the long road home. Grayhm not only stars in the film, but also wrote, produced, and directed it—an unusual level of authorship that reflects how personal the project is. Sheepdog centers on Calvin Cole (Grayhm), a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran who is court-ordered into treatment and placed under the care of a VA trauma therapist-in-training (played by Madsen), who is juggling her clinical work with night shifts at a diner to pay for school. Calvin's fragile attempt to hold himself together is further tested when his father-in-law, a retired Vietnam veteran (Curtis Hall), appears at his door fresh out of prison. As Calvin's instinct to run from his past collapses, the film traces how accountability, compassion, and hard-earned trust can open a path toward healing. Shot on location in Western Massachusetts, Sheepdog aims to lift the veil on post-traumatic stress and the veteran suicide crisis, while also focusing on the often-overlooked idea of post-traumatic growth. Rather than offering easy answers, the film shows the physical and psychological consequences of trauma—and the slow, uneven work of recovery—through grounded performances and lived-in settings. Film critic Tony Toscana called it “one of the best films of the year.” We'll ask Grayhm about how Sheepdog came to be: years spent listening to veterans' stories, studying trauma and VA treatment models, and working closely with veterans and clinicians to get the details right. He'll reflect on why he felt compelled to tell this story himself, why authenticity matters more than spectacle, and what it takes to bring an independently made, veteran-centered film from script to screen. This livestream will explore the making of Sheepdog, the responsibilities of telling veterans' stories on film, and what cinema can—and cannot—do when it comes to understanding trauma, recovery, and the complicated work of coming home. We're grateful to UPMC for Life for sponsoring this event!
Interview with Shane Williams, President & CEO, West Red Lake Gold MinesOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/west-red-lake-gold-tsxvwrlg-cash-positive-miner-targets-100k-oz-by-2028-without-dilution-8551Recording date: 13th January 2026West Red Lake Gold Mines declared commercial production at its Madsen Gold Mine effective January 1, 2026, achieving this milestone just seven months after completing its bulk sample program. The mill averaged 689 tonnes per day in December 2025, representing 86% of permitted capacity with strong 94.6% recovery rates, producing 3,215 ounces of gold. This performance met the company's internal requirements of 30 consecutive days at 65% or greater throughput combined with operational stability. The company generated US$30 million in gold sales revenue during Q4 2025, selling 7,200 ounces at an average price of US$4,150 per ounce. For full-year 2025, Madsen poured 20,000 ounces generating US$73 million in revenue, with the company ending the year holding CAD$46 million in cash and gold receivables. Management confirms the operation is self-funding with positive monthly cash flow, eliminating future dilution risk.West Red Lake Gold is transitioning to higher-grade ore from the 4447 zone in South Austin, expecting Q1 2026 mill feed to average over 6 grams per tonne gold compared to 4.94 g/t in December. The company targets 800 tpd sustained throughput by mid-2026 while advancing multiple growth initiatives including the Fork deposit, newly identified 904 Complex, and shaft optimization studies that could significantly increase production capacity.—Learn more: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/west-red-lake-gold-mines-incSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com
Welcome back to The Following Films Podcast, where we dive into the stories behind the films that move us, challenge us, and stay with us long after the credits roll.Today's episode brings us a powerful new drama that explores trauma, resilience, and the complicated journey home after war. Sheepdog, written and directed by Steven Grayhm, arrives in theaters January 16, 2026, and it's a deeply human story about what it really takes to heal. The film centers on Calvin Cole, a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran who is court-ordered into treatment under the care of a VA trauma therapist in training. Just as he begins confronting his past, his estranged father-in-law—a retired Vietnam veteran recently released from prison—arrives at his doorstep, forcing Calvin to face everything he's been trying to outrun. Through community, tough love, and compassion, Sheepdog becomes a story about putting yourself back together again—for your family, and for yourself. The film features an extraordinary ensemble, including Steven Grayhm, Vondie Curtis Hall, Dominic Fumusa, Lilli Cooper, Matt Dallas—and today's guest, Academy Award nominee Virginia Madsen, whose work continues to bring depth, grace, and emotional truth to every project she touches.Madsen, best known for films like Sideways, brings a remarkable presence to Sheepdog, helping ground the story in empathy and emotional realism. Her performance is part of what makes this film resonate so deeply, especially as it tackles the generational impact of war and the quiet battles that continue long after soldiers come home.I'm thrilled to welcome Virginia Madsen to The Following Films Podcast to talk about her work on Sheepdog, what drew her to the project, and why stories like this feel so vital right now.Let's get into it.

-Yes, there is still sadness and disappointment about the way that Nebraska volleyball's season ended—but as Bill pointed out yesterday in Jake's NFL Winners and Losers---the demise of the Dolphins doesn't faze Jake with the early success that Nebrasketball has had (Joe Lunardi has the Huskers as a 4-seed in most latest Bracketology projection!!!)-A bowl game win would be the cherry on top of a good month (besides the volleyball loss)…so we should be grateful today-Also, ROLL CALL (sponsored by Madsen's Bowling & Billiards): where are Breakers listening from today?Show sponsored by SANDHILLS GLOBALOur Sponsors:* Check out Hims: https://hims.com/EARLYBREAK* Check out Infinite Epigenetics: https://infiniteepigenetics.com/EARLYBREAK* Check out Washington Red Raspberries: https://redrazz.orgAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

World War, round one. I want to live through this. If I can't be the guy behind the machine gun, let's see. Rifle. BAR's too heavy. SMLE. ten rounds trumps five, and can be, with practice, fired fast. Sights not as good as the Mk IV, but by the time we get to wwii, there are other options. Hand gun: good old 1911. Subgun -- was the Thompson available yet? Shotgun: not expert at all, but a 12 gauge pump with a big bayonet seems like a good thing to have on hand. Trench Broom. I think I'd also want a big old Bowie style knife as well. World War, round two, the rematch. handgun. More good options by then, but I think I'll stick with the 1911, this time in A1 configuration. Rifle, Garand, seeing as I probably couldn't get a Sturmgewehr. Subgun -- "Grease Gun" .45. Shotgun -- whatever 12 gauge pump is available, bayonet not needed, as we're not doing trench warfare. Big Bowie knife again -- too useful, less likely to be used in combat. Alternate history what if: What if low residue smokeless powder had been developed and introduced 50 years earlier, in the 1840s instead of the 1890s. Would we have seen early introduction of auto loading firearms, or would revolvers and manual repeaters continue to dominate into the 20th century? I suspect "yes, eventually, but not an immediate slamdunk." It would have made the US Civil War interesting. —-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Listener Russell: Hi gents, There is one movie where the gun mistakes bother me so badly. It's the movie Standoff staring Laurence Fishburne and Thomas Jane. There is a scene where they discuss the attributes of each other's weapon. Fishburne's character brags about being armed with a 45. The gun is a Beretta 92! Jane's character is armed with a single shot shotgun in 20ga. Which Fishburne's character says isn't very powerful and has no range. Funny… The majority of the movie takes place in a house. Even worse this “20ga” is being loaded with RED shells. This scene ruined the entire movie for me. If they would have left out or changed the dialogue about the guns. Would have been a totally decent enough movie. Keep the shows coming, Russell —---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Listener Keith: Was watching The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Takes place in the Civil War. Lots of metallic cartridge guns. Not even hiding it. Tuco shoots from the bathtub. Not going to do that with black powder. Also, Blondie unloaded Tuco's gun before the showdown. The Army has Gatling guns. I think they were 45/70s. —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Listener David: WW1 Loadout: I figure the best way is to split these over multiple emails. So sorry if that makes for a ton of reading! I am assuming logistics for all the crazy calibers are all solved. My main rifle is an M1917 Enfield, officially the "United States Rifle, cal .30, Model of 1917". Guess the guys got paid by the character to name stuff back then. For a carbine-ish choice, I am picking the Short Magazine fed Lee Enfield Mark 3. That just seems like a super handy gun to have inside cramped trenches. My shotgun is an M1897 trench gun with a sword bayonet. If the buckshot doesn't do the trick, I get spear practice (you know, as a little treat.) The machine gun splits into light and heavy. For light, I am picking the Madsen light machine gun and the Gatling gun gets the nod for heavy work. My pistol choice is nothing fancy, the P08 Luger, WW2 Loadout: Here is my idea for the WW2 load out.Same as before, magic logistics mean plenty of parts and ammo. My WW2 rifle is the M1941 Johnson rifle. Mainly because the Garand is too heavy for anyone to choose on purpose to schlep around. I am swapping a submachine gun for the carbine. That would be the PPSh-41 because I am achieving peace through overwhelming rate of fire. My shotgun is the Browning Auto 5. It's WW2, why are we racking slides like unwashed peasants? Machine gun again gets split into light and heavy. Light this time is the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle, Heavy duty goes to the venerable M2 Browning because to Hell with you and whatever you are hiding behind! My sidearm choice is the Roth-Steyr M1907. It has more rounds than the 1911 and P38, it gets bonus points for looking weird also! (We have the rest of your emails David, but we want to save them for a future show when we have more entries!) —---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xander– WWII loadout: USS Nimitz (in honor of December 7) Or: Liberator pistol, Mauser C96 pistol, Mauser Karabiner rifle Wrap Up: Don't forget to shop Brownells using our affiliate link! Og Stoklunds budskab over stregen? Og skal muslimer og kristne invitere og deltage i hinandens højtider? Shane Williams, President and CEO at West Red Lake Gold Mines (TSX.V:WRLG – OTCQB:WRLGF), joins us to field a wide array of questions and detailed discussion with updates on the mid-Q4 underground operations, mining, and milling, capital allocation projects, and exploration updates during the ongoing ramp-up towards commercial production at their 100% owned Madsen Mine. Madsen is located in the Red Lake Gold District of Northwestern Ontario, Canada. We start off having Shane break down some of the key takeaways from the news out on November 18th outlining the Mid-Q4 Madsen Mine Update. In the first half of Q4 the Madsen Mine made steady progress towards full scale operations. Importantly, in October mined ore production increased 24% compared to the month prior. Rolling stock deliveries are now almost complete and the maintenance shop has been delivered. Site management has also been notably strengthened. Improvement in the underground waste rock storage program has been a key de-bottlenecking effort recently, and is directly supporting the mine's ability to move ore tonnes in advancing towards commercial production The team is motivated to get the shaft operational and take receipt of the final haul truck to complete this list. We also discussed how the Company has attracted strong candidates to key site leadership positions over the last few months. At this point commercial production is targeted for Q1 2026. Shane reiterates that when the management team and board have the confidence to announce everything is working as it should at the mine and mill at close to targeted levels, that the move into commercial production should also mean the Company is comfortably generating revenues at that point. Next, we discussed fully funded 3,000 meter infill drilling program at its 100% owned Fork Deposit located approximately 250 meters southwest from its Madsen Mine. This drilling will further define the core pod of mineralization at Fork, which has been re-envisioned as a high-grade near-mine resource expansion target that is a priority for immediate advancement. Wrapping up we discussed the blue sky exploration potential in many areas around Madsen, particularly at South Austin and the lower part of Austin Main. We also discussed further ongoing drilling over at the nearby Rowan Project, which will supplement the future mine plan in years to come. Interview with Gwen Preston, VP Communications, West Red Lake Gold MinesOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/west-red-lake-gold-mines-tsxvwrlg-all-known-questions-answered-7761Recording date: 18th November 2025West Red Lake Gold Mines is restarting the Madsen Mine in Ontario's prolific Red Lake district, positioning itself as a rare new gold producer emerging at the beginning of a bull market rather than after years of depressed prices . The company targets commercial production in early 2026 with expected annual output of 50,000 ounces, growing to 100,000 ounces by 2028 through site optimization and development of the high-grade Rowan deposit .The third quarter of 2025 demonstrated significant operational momentum, with production exceeding 7,000 ounces generating $33 million in revenue . October data showed a 24% increase in daily mine tons compared to September, driven by completion of underground waste rock storage solutions that eliminated the need to truck waste material to surface, freeing equipment for ore movement . The company has achieved cash-flow positive status during ramp-up while maintaining over $45 million in treasury, providing substantial financial flexibility heading into commercial production .West Red Lake's dual-asset production growth plan aims to reach 100,000 annual ounces without requiring external financing . The first phase involves optimizing Madsen production to 60-65,000 ounces by 2027 as mining progresses to deeper, less-historically-worked zones with higher grades . The Rowan project, located 80 kilometers by road from Madsen, will contribute an additional 35,000 ounces annually starting in 2028 from a remarkably high-grade deposit averaging nearly 13 grams per ton . Critically, Rowan requires no mill construction, with ore trucked to the existing Madsen facility, simplifying permitting to an advanced exploration permit rather than full mining authorization. The company expects to finance Rowan's $70 million capital cost entirely from operational cash flow, spread over multiple quarters beginning mid-2026 . Management has explicitly stated no further equity financing is expected for Madsen, contrasting sharply with typical junior producers who exhaust capital during construction and face dilutive financings just as production begins . This financial discipline resulted from acquiring the asset at favorable terms and executing a methodical restart plan that prioritized reaching cash flow over aggressive production targets .Learn more: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/west-red-lake-gold-mines-incSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

If you've ever wondered why some people break through quickly—while others spend years journaling, looping in coaching, or listening to affirmations that never stick—this episode explains exactly what makes the difference. Penny and Tina unpack the hidden flaws in traditional coaching and surface-level hypnosis trainings that rely on scripts and mindset hacks. More importantly, they reveal why real, lasting change requires a complete system that addresses emotional residue, clears subconscious blocks, and integrates identity-level shifts. You won't hear the name of the tool in this episode—but you will hear the results it delivers. From clients who "graduate" in weeks, to hypnotists who finally feel confident guiding others, this is a behind-the-scenes conversation on why simplicity, clarity, and repeatability are essential in transformational work. This episode is both a wake-up call and a permission slip: You don't need more certifications or mental gymnastics. You need a process that works.
In our Species 1995 Movie Review, we drop you straight back into the chaotic brilliance of mid-90s cinema, where practical effects, erotic sci-fi horror and unapologetic B-grade madness collided to create something truly unforgettable. In this episode of Born to Watch, Whitey, Gow, and Damo go deep into the 1995 creature flick that defined many a teenage boy's movie-going experience. They unpack the film from top to bottom, celebrating the nostalgia, questioning the logic and laughing at the sheer absurdity that made Species a cult classic.Whitey kicks things off by reminding us that the nineties were the final analog decade. Plans were made by phone, movie rumours spread by word of mouth, photos were printed, and mystery still existed. Out of that world came an alien seductress named Sil, played by Natasha Henstridge in her unforgettable debut. The boys discuss how this “erotic sci-fi horror” served as the perfect storm of schlock, suspense, and snorbery, with a surprising amount of A-grade pedigree hiding behind the B-grade sheen. The crew swap first-watch stories, revealing who saw it at the movies, who wore out the VHS and who had only seen the, let's say, memorable scenes on repeat. They break down the cast, including a peak Michael Madsen showing maximum smoulder, Ben Kingsley collecting a paycheck, Forest Whitaker feeling everything as an empath, and Alfred Molina delivering one of the most gloriously stupid character decisions ever put on screen. From there, the episode dives into Species' glaring logical gaps. The boys question how a creature only days old can understand cars, language, currency, sex, and self-sacrifice. They rip into the nightclub bathroom scene, which was somehow empty, the world's cleanest train conductor uniform, the magically perfect self haircut, and that spectacularly unconvincing fake-death scene, which makes no sense. Add an oil reservoir under Los Angeles, a fireball that should still be burning today and a final sewer showdown straight out of Aliens, and you have a recipe for pure nineties chaos. The team also digs into production trivia. Henstridge's big break as a 19-year-old model, Madsen's reluctance toward violent roles, HR Giger's sexualised creature design and the film's surprising success at the box office. The boys even cover Species' most prestigious accolade, the 1996 MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss, complete with an on-stage pash and a very unimpressed boyfriend watching on.As always, the gang wrap things up with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Snorbs Report, Ordinary People and Question Time, where the dumb decisions of this film truly shine. Was Spa Man the dumbest man alive? Would anyone ever leave a hot tub to answer the phone? Do diabetics get a raw deal in this movie? Why does Sil's intelligence fluctuate depending on what the script requires? It is all here, and it is all hilarious. This Species 1995 Movie Review is full of nostalgia, stupidity and sci-fi sleaze, but above all, it is pure Born to Watch. Strap in for '90s madness, a whole lot of snobs chat, and plenty of laughs as the boys relive one of the most chaotic creature features ever made.JOIN THE CONVERSATIONIs Species the most outrageous sci-fi horror of the '90s, or just the most unforgettable?Did Natasha Henstridge redefine the term B-grade icon?Would you have survived Sill's mating spree, or ended up like poor Rapey Robbie?Listen now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or at BornToWatch.com.auDo us a favour: hit follow and drop a five-star review. In a digital world where 85% of young adults get their news from social media but only 5% trust it, brands face an unprecedented challenge: building credibility in an algorithm-driven landscape. In this episode, we're joined by Casey Madsen of Vayner, who breaks down insights from their latest research on the state of PR, content, and consumer trust. We discuss how “earned media” and influencer storytelling have merged, why only 29% of brand leaders feel their voice is consistently authentic, and what marketers must do to earn real attention in 2026 and beyond. Whether you're leading a comms team or just starting your marketing career, this episode unpacks the evolving intersection of credibility, creativity, and connection in the attention economy.Key Takeaways:// Credibility Crisis: With only 5% of social media users fully trusting the content they see, brands must focus on transparency, consistency, and community-driven storytelling to rebuild trust.// The Overlap of PR and Social: The walls between traditional PR and social storytelling are gone — teams must now think like creators, not just communicators.// Authenticity Gap: Only 29% of brands believe their voice is truly consistent. The fix? Align every piece of content with your brand's values, tone, and long-term mission.// The Rise of Earned Attention: As paid reach declines, the brands that win will be those who earn engagement through relevance, not repetition.// New Skills for the Modern Marketer: The next generation of communicators needs to be data-driven, platform-native, and emotionally intelligent, blending creative instinct with analytical insight.// Career Advice for Emerging Talent: Focus on mastering storytelling, speed, and strategy — the three currencies of credibility in the modern media landscape.Download the Report: HEREConnect with Casey: LinkedIn____Say hi! Autism isn't new, but our understanding of it has changed dramatically. It's now recognized as a broad neurodevelopmental spectrum that shapes how millions of people perceive, process, and interact with the world. In this episode, we explore what autism is AND isn't, from its earliest signs in infancy to its deep genetic roots, and why misinformation about it continues to spread. We speak with three remarkable experts leading the field in early detection, genetics, and public education: DR. AMI KLIN, PhD, Director of the Marcus Autism Center at Emory University and a pioneer in early autism research, whose work shows autism can be identified in babies as young as two months old. DR. JOSEPH BUXBAUM, PhD, Director of the Seaver Autism Center at Mount Sinai and a global leader in autism genetics, uncovering hundreds of genes linked to the condition. DR. ANDREA LOVE, immunologist, microbiologist, and founder of ImmunoLogic, known for her clear, evidence-based communication about vaccines, immunity, and autism myths. Together, we discuss: • What autism really is, and how the definitions have evolved • How it develops in infancy (and why early diagnosis can be so critical) • The powerful genetic evidence behind autism • The persistence of vaccine myths, and how misinformation spreads • How technology like eye-tracking can detect autism early • The rise of “profound autism” and what it means for families • The future of genetics-based treatments and therapy Whether you're autistic yourself, a parent navigating a new diagnosis, or simply seeking understanding, we're thrilled to share this extensive, in-depth episode with you. Major Cohort Studies Hviid et al., 2019 – Annals of Internal Medicine A nationwide study of 657,461 Danish children found no increased risk of autism in vaccinated children compared to unvaccinated peers — even among those with risk factors such as a sibling with autism. Ann Intern Med. 2019;170(8):513–520 Madsen et al., 2002 – New England Journal of Medicine In 537,303 Danish children, researchers found no difference in autism rates between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups, and no relationship with age, timing, or date of vaccination. NEJM. 2002;347:1477–1482 Jain et al., 2015 – Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) A U.S. cohort of 95,727 children — including those with siblings with autism — showed no link between MMR vaccination and autism risk, even in genetically predisposed children. JAMA. 2015;313(15):1534–1540 Madsen et al., 2003 – JAMA A study of 467,450 Danish children found no relationship between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism. JAMA. 2003;290(13):1763–1766 DeStefano et al., 2022 – Vaccine A retrospective cohort of over 500,000 U.S. children with ASD found no increase in adverse events or worsening of autism-related symptoms following vaccination. Vaccine. 2022;40(16):2391–2398 2. Population-Level Epidemiologic Evidence Taylor et al., 1999 – The Lancet One of the earliest large epidemiological studies found autism prevalence was the same in vaccinated and unvaccinated children, and the age of onset was unrelated to the timing of MMR vaccination. Read: Lancet. 1999;353(9169):2026–2029 Institute of Medicine (U.S.) Immunization Safety Review, 2011 A global review of studies from the U.S., Denmark, Sweden, and the U.K. concluded there is no causal relationship between vaccination status and autism, and no plausible biological mechanism linking vaccines (including thimerosal) to ASD. Read: National Academies Press / PubMed 20669467 3. Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Taylor et al., 2014 – Vaccine A comprehensive meta-analysis of 10 studies including over 1.2 million children found no association between vaccination and autism or ASD. Vaccine. 2014;32(29):3623–3629 Maglione et al., 2014 – Pediatrics Review of 67 high-quality studies covering the full U.S. immunization schedule concluded that vaccines are safe, adverse events are rare, and there is no link to autism, type 1 diabetes, or other chronic conditions. Pediatrics. 2014;134(2):325–337 Parker et al., 2004 – Pediatrics Systematic review of 10 primary studies examining thimerosal exposure found no relationship between vaccines and ASD. Authors noted that studies showing an association were methodologically flawed or biased, while robust studies consistently showed safety. Pediatrics. 2004;113(6):1904–1910 Offit & Hackett, 2003 – Clinical Infectious Diseases Review of immunology and epidemiology concluded that claims that vaccines “overwhelm” or “damage” the immune system are not biologically plausible based on how the immune system actually functions. Clin Infect Dis. 2003;46(9):1450–1456
