This episode dives into the truths around dyscalculia with expert Rob Jennings from The Dyscalculia Network. Rob shares his expertise in recognising the signs and, most importantly, strategies on how to support students with dyscalculia.
Hello! This week we're talking about dyslexia—how we need to improve its recognition in our society and understand the contribution people with dyslexia can make. At least 1 in 10 people in the UK are estimated to have dyslexia and are still facing barriers to inclusion in the classroom, the workplace and society more broadly. We speak to Andy Cook from the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity, Kate Griggs from Made by Dyslexia and Rob Jennings from the Dyscalculia Network about the power of dyslexic thinking, celebrating neurodiversity and how it's not just about facing challenges with spelling.Plus: Ed has been interacting with rogue birdlife again and we hear about Geoff's time moonlighting as an estate agent.Links from the episodeThe Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity: https://www.helenarkell.org.uk/Dyscalculia Network: https://www.dyscalculianetwork.com/Made by Dyslexia: https://www.madebydyslexia.org/Kate's TEDx talk: The Creative Brilliance of Dyslexia | Kate Griggs | TEDxBrightonDyslexia training, in partnership with Made By Dyslexia and Microsoft: https://education.microsoft.com/en-us/learningPath/939a69c9Email your comments, questions and episode ideas to reasons@cheerfulpodcast.com or at www.cheerfulpodcast.com and follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Selfishly, I've been looking forward to this interview since we started the show. Rob Jennings wrestled at Clyde High School in the mid-to-late nighties when my father was a coach in the same conference. If you talk to anyone about the level of completion and the rivalries in the Sandusky Bay Conference when it was 8 teams you will get a better understanding of the times. Needless to say, as a young 5th - 6th grader I was watching all of Rob's matches. If not for entertainment for scouting (Sorry Rob. Sorry SMCC coaches. I'm sure my notes could have been better.) Rob was one of those wrestlers that did everything right. He was respectful in victory and defeat and he was a part of a Murder's Row of wrestlers. When you wrestled Clyde at that time, the dual meet could easily come down to the coin flip between the captains. Rob shares how he got started in wrestling, what it taught him, why he became a wrestling official, and what his goals as an official are. Rob shares a lot of high school wrestling stories about the glory days in the SBC. Rob's goal is to officiate the Ohio High School Wrestling State Championships as soon they feel he is ready. He IS ready by the way. At some point in the last decade, marketing went meta: the story behind the campaign subsumed the campaign; the video case study about the event overtook the event. In this mini-episode, we chat with Rob Jennings to understand just what meta-marketing means and explore some of Rob's favorite examples of this phenomenon.
