Deze week hebben we een gast in de podcast die misschien wel het belangrijkste gesprek van dit jaar brengt: Wesley Feijth.   Wesley is privacy-expert en oprichter van ProPrivacy.io, waarmee hij mensen helpt hun digitale leven terug in eigen handen te nemen. Privacy lijkt voor velen een saai of technisch onderwerp, maar het is in werkelijkheid de rode draad die ALLE grote agenda's van de toekomst raakt: digitale identiteit, geld, sociale controle en AI.   Juist omdat het zo onzichtbaar is, doen veel mensen er nog veel te makkelijk over. In dit gesprek laat Wesley zien hoe onze telefoons in feite surveillance-apparaten zijn, hoe data de basis vormt van een nieuw controlesysteem en waarom dit thema cruciaal is voor onze vrijheid.   In deze podcast:   Je telefoon als toegangspoort Zelfs met vliegtuigmodus uit, blijken veel toestellen nog data door te geven. Wat betekent dat voor onze vrijheid?  Van QR-codes tot digitale ID's: de telefoon wordt steeds meer het middel waarmee toegang tot de samenleving wordt geregeld.   “Ik heb toch niks te verbergen?” Het standaardargument tegen privacy-bewustzijn, maar Wesley legt uit waarom het een gevaarlijke illusie is. Privacy is vaak een ondergeschoven thema, maar raakt elk aspect van ons leven. “Het is misschien wel het belangrijkste thema van deze tijd, maar niemand geeft er wat om.”   Data is het nieuwe goud “Ik noem Palantir ook wel het kloppende hart van het westerse sociale kredietsysteem.” De data die we zelf weggeven belandt bij machtige partijen. Wat er vervolgens mee gebeurt, gaat verder dan de meesten vermoeden.   Het Chinese model als waarschuwing In China bepaalt je score of je mag reizen, lenen of zelfs een taxi pakken. “Ik ben er echt van overtuigd geraakt dat we in het Westen in de richting van eenzelfde soort systeem aan het bewegen zijn.”   AI en technocratie AI versnelt de controle, van gezichtsherkenning tot ‘pre-crime'. “Het wordt een door AI aangestuurde samenleving.” Maar technologie zelf is neutraal: de vraag is of we het inzetten om mensen te controleren, of om ons juist vrijer te maken.   Concrete alternatieven Er zijn manieren om wél grip te houden op je eigen digitale leven.
