3 Abolitionist Yankees met in Sumter South Carolina... it's not the start of a joke. It's today's reality. Max, Yusuf, and Tag will be broadcasting live from the Paul Cuffee Abolitionist center in Sumter, SC. With that in mind, we're going to talk about reconstruction, Yankees, Carpetbaggers, and Scalawags. What those labels mean and how they connect to today's Slavery Abolitionist movement. We'll also discuss the 5 state solution proposed by the Republic of New Afrika. We have some epic news to share. Another state is on the table to end slavery in 2022! That brings us to a grand total of SIX STATES where constitutional slavery abolition can become a reality in 2022. When we are successful on November 8th, that will make a total of 10 states who have explicitly abolished slavery without exception for the first time in US history. We'll tell you all about it. Of course there's music, poetry, and we will be Bridging The Gap by bringing the ancestors words back to life for a new generation.
Each one of these characters is worse than the last. Not a redeeming quality in any of them, and that's just the way Michael likes it! More bad behavior herein, more trouble, plus some unexpected deaths. No brioche required, but certainly encouraged. This is the second apportionment of our four-part Better Half mini-series containing four lectures regarding the First Ladies of the United States within the Reconstruction Era, the Gilded Age, through total global interwar, the Mad Decade, and up to the brink of the Dirty Thirties. The sixty-eight-year span features a shy First Lady entreating the Queen of Hawaii, a cross-eyed, anti-suffragist equestrian (with a strict dress code) battling polygamy, and a tee-totaling, guitar-playing FLOTUS hosting weekly gospel sings with a band of cabinet members. The White House Lawn Easter Egg Roll becomes tradition, the billiard room converted to a greenhouse, Christmas Trees, apparitions, and Einstein make their debut appearance there, and the term "First Lady" finally appears in the press. A long list of First Ladies volunteer for the newly formed American Red Cross, the premier Presidential Library is established, a serving First Daughter has a hit song with Columbia Records, a string of First Sisters denounce women's suffrage, the Statue of Liberty is dedicated, a future FLOTUS pulls a reverse Footloose on her fiancée, the United States has its first and only non-consecutive serving First Lady, another that secretly runs the government for seventeen months, and a public confrontation with the Commander in Chief's mistress. As a bonus, we will visit the Women's World Fair with a FLOTUS who taught the deaf, decipher private conversations of the only First Couple to speak Mandarin fluently, and indulge in Waffle Mania.

Hannah was an amazing woman, but she was childless and that devastated her. Her rival taunted her, her husband was an oaf who couldn't comfort her, and her pastor/priest thought she was drunk. How did she handle such difficulty in the midst of heartbreak? With great grace and trust in the Lord. Hannah demonstrates to us how to live our lives when we are full of despair and anxiety AND are suffering from the barbs and insults of others. She also shows us the joy of full surrender to the plans and hand of God.

Our second foray into JJBA kicks a show that was in high gear into some sort of strange, protein powder fueled waking dream. Gabe discusses his uncanny pre-cognition, Shad laughs a little too hard at a dead dog (again), and everyone is a bit surprised by a vampire (Zombie? Some sort of ghoul?). It's interesting to know that in 2018, there was a 50% increase in the number of hate groups in America. Currently, the Southern Poverty Law Center is tracking more than 1000 hate groups, so hate is certainly not a thing of the past. In fact, it has actually increased in recent years. So, there is a lot to talk about when it comes to the history of hate in America and why we are seeing the current resurgence. Today, we're doing the first of two episodes on the topic. We will be taking a look at the history of hate through the lens of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) - America’s first Terrorist organization. It's very important for us to understand how it happened in the past, and also to understand what might be happening now. Most of us tend to associate the KKK, one of America's original hate groups, with violence, hoods, and burning crosses, and we tend not to think about them hating different religions, especially Catholics. Tune into this episode of Dear White Women, to find out about the history of the KKK - where it started, and how it came to be what it is today. Show Highlights: The three periods of significant strength for the KKK in American history. The event that marked the start of the KKK in 1865. Why it's very important to understand how the KKK came into being the very first time around. Hate is the opposite of thriving, yet it can still create a sense of meaning for some people. The KKK originally started out with the idea of scaring people, not harming them. The history around the political situation that the KKK was initially fighting against. Who the Scalawags and the Carpetbaggers really were, and how they were used in an attempt to influence Southern politics. What caused the KKK to turn violent. What happened during the period of Reconstruction, immediately after the Civil War. The period of Reconstruction was actually a time of re-enslavement of black people. Why the dominance of the KKK came to an end after the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1871. Hate organizations don't always hate what they're known for. What hate is really about - so you can see it for what it is. We really need to connect with people in a more holistic way, particularly around issues of fear, hurt and anger. People need to know that they are seen and heard. Albort starts this first of two episodes with a half-hour long crash course introduction to Jerome, Joseph and Napoleon Bonaparte and their hand in giving us the tin can before illustrating how the French Indian War, The Rosetta Stone, The War of 1812, Thomas Jefferson, The Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, The Seminole Wars, Theatre Riots, The Pony Express, Oklahoma, John Deere, Scalawags and Carpet Baggers gave us the invention of barbed wire. Don’t get fooled by the late theme song, this is our longest episode yet.
