Carter Verhaeghe notched a goal and an assist, Sam Reinhart found the back of the net, and Sergei Bobrovsky recorded 23 saves as the Panthers triumphed over the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final at Amerant Bank Arena on Monday. The Panthers, who have been part of the NHL since the 1993-94 season, secured their first Stanley Cup championship after three previous unsuccessful attempts in this series. After taking a commanding 3-0 lead, they dropped the next three games and were on the brink of becoming the first team since 1942 to lose four consecutive potential clinching games in the Stanley Cup Final. The Edmonton Oilers shutout the Los Angeles Kings last night 1-0 in Game 4 to take a 3-1 series lead. Evan Bouchard scored the lone goal of the game, which came on the powerplay in the second period. That's all the Oilers needed offensively with Stuart Skinner playing rock solid between the pipes, stopping all 33 shots he faced for his first career postseason shutout.
