It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Western Conference contenders, goaltending, the Jays' run, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about which new Oiler the fellas are most excited to watch during the 2025-26 season. From Andrew Mangiapane signing as a free agent to Matt Savoie and Isaac Howard being two blue-chip prospects with plenty of upside, the guys were bullish on some of the new guys being able to contribute in a meaningful way. Of course, we are in the middle of Kool-Aid szn, so expecting anything less from the crew would be unwise at this stage of the summer.Changing gears, we looked at some of the extension rumours that came out last week. Bob Stauffer hinted on his show that there could be a run of contract extensions happening before the end of the month, and that hope for news had the fanbase buzzing. Sticking with contract extensions, we then looked at a report from Frank Seravalli where he guesses what Connor McDavid's extension will look like for value and term. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. With just over two months left until the start of the 2025-26 season, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode talking about an array of topics that were Oilers-related or not at all, but that's what happens in August. It's Wednesday smack dab in the middle of the NHL dead zone, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap what was another slow news week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers' potential extension list, Connor McDavid, Stan Bowman updates on the negotiation, and whatever else has happened over the last seven days. With not much going on around the NHL these days, I started this week's podcast with a trip to the rumour mill after Bob Stauffer speculated on Oilers Now that the Oilers could be getting some significant business done over the next month. Of course, nothing Bob said is written in stone, but that doesn't mean I wasn't still able to have some fun with the rumours. Sticking with contract extensions, I ran through the latest rumblings about Connor McDavid's upcoming extension, including potential dollar and term numbers from Frank Seravalli. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about shrinkflation before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter this week, but the messages were still as fun as ever. As always, the voicemails are a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Kick off your week with an all new episode of The DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli as they give you a full offseason preview for each of the eight non-playoff teams in the Western Conference. They started in the basement with the San Jose Sharks, who have boatloads of cap space. Should GM Mike Grier spend like crazy? Or stay the course? The guys debated that. They then had a similar conversation about the Chicago Blackhawks. The Nashville Predators were one of the more disappointing teams in the NHL this year and now, they'll try to get things back on the rails. That could involve trading one of the players they signed last summer. The Seattle Kraken have some contracts that Frank thinks they need to move and probably won't be buyers.Speaking of buyers, that's the expectation in both Anaheim and Utah. Both Frank and Jason agreed that those two teams should be very aggressive this summer. They then went up to Canada to talk about the Vancouver Canucks, who are trying to turn over a new leaf after a drama filled 2024-25 season and have some clear holes on their roster. The Calgary Flames were one of the more positive surprises in the NHL and instead of heading towards a rebuild, GM Craig Conroy could try to add to this group and try make them a legit playoff team.Tyler then popped on for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about Sam Bennett's Conn Smythe chances and the rumblings about NHL expansion. They wrapped up the show with some Stanley Cup Final talk as the Panthers have the Oilers on the brink of elimination for a second consecutive season. SEASON 3 EPISODE 117: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump has already LOST the tariff wars he finally claimed he paused yesterday (without really pausing). Already. Took him only eight days. From Liberation Day to a day when in any other war, literal or figurative, he would have been deposed - 8 days. And never mind how much YOU AND I think he’s crazy; a high-priced adviser to macro fund managers says “a few have quietly wondered if the president might be insane." And after Wall Street came off the ledge and got back to where it was Monday – only, what, seven trillion lost – he declared victory. “Up 2500 points. Nobody has ever heard of it. Gotta be a record.” Because he can’t admit he made a mistake; his head would fall off. His approval numbers have cratered. He’s underwater by an AVERAGE of six points. LAST Wednesday it was an average of TWO points. Since the election he’s lost 20 points among those over age 65; he’s lost 50 points among those under age 30. And he still raised the tariffs on the Chinese again – to 125 percent – because he’s mad at them. Because they of course are winning. Because the Chinese are not negotiating; the Chinese are as they have been for centuries, waiting for their opponents to DIE. The Chinese are apparently dumping our 10-Year Treasuries, driving up our debt. And they’ve opened trading partnership negotiations with the head of the European Union. And for all the claims about pausing the tariffs, a universal TEN percent tariff will be maintained. He didn't pause anything. He simply lost everything. B-Block (27:10) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Joe Manchin writes a book celebrating his middle of the road bona fides. The cover photo shows only the right half of his face, naturally. Marjorie Stupid Greene reveals she does not know what the word "Merch" means. And the president of the hockey writers' association, a bonehead named Frank Seravalli, not only defends Wayne Gretzky's attacks on Canada but his bringing FBI Director and Election Denier Kash Patel to the Ovechkin game - and calls CRITICISM of those decisions "political BS." Instead of, maybe, calling out Gretzky for BRINGING political BS into a moment of sports history. C-Block (49:15) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: She's still at it. Even as Trump's boasts of pausing the tariffs while INCREASING them on China and maintaining them on everybody else, Laura Ingraham is still carrying his water for him. It's time for me to review my dates with her last century, and the extraordinary revelation she made during the first of them about the then-nascent Republican-Media Industrial Complex.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
