Bob Hiller, senior pastor of Community Lutheran Church in Southern California, content editor for 1517's Craft of Preaching, co-host of White Horse Inn, and a longtime friend from his Denver Lutheran days. Together they explore why preaching is both the work of the Holy Spirit and a craft that deserves serious preparation.Bob and Tim discuss collaborative sermon writing, biblical literacy, preaching to a distracted culture, and why Law and Gospel should be the foundation of a sermon rather than a predictable formula imposed on every text. They also wrestle with one-point versus multi-point sermons, the danger of turning proclamation into a lecture, and the responsibility pastors have to honor the attention of their hearers by giving them Christ.Support the showWatch Us On Youtube! Join me and legendary Northwestern women's lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte Hiller for an insightful and inspiring conversation about championship culture, adversity, and the mindset that drives sustained excellence. Kelly's journey is a masterclass in resilience and evolution—from leading her team through an uncharacteristically tough start to the season, to capturing her ninth national championship as a coach on home turf. She shares the behind-the-scenes process of overcoming setbacks, the power of reflection, and the importance of getting everyone "rowing in the same direction." Kelly opens up about the origins of her work ethic, the blue-collar values instilled by her family, and how embracing adversity and self-honesty have been critical for both personal and team growth. We dive deep into the philosophies that have shaped her dynastic program: a relentless commitment to hard work, the humility to look in the mirror, and the courage to constantly evolve. Kelly also discusses the impact of supporting her former players now turned coaches, the beauty of fostering growth in young women, and the ultimate legacy of her leadership—building a culture where true greatness is measured not just in wins, but in the long-lasting bonds formed along the way. About Kelly – Already a legend in the game as a player, Kelly Amonte Hiller has established herself as one of the sport's greatest coaches after building Northwestern Lacrosse into a dynasty. In May of 2005, Amonte Hiller etched her name in the annals of college athletics when she guided her upstart Northwestern team to an undefeated season and the first NCAA Lacrosse Championship ever won by a team outside the Eastern Time Zone, the first of an incredible nine national titles. Under Amonte Hiller's direction the Wildcats most recently claimed the 2026 NCAA National Championship, her ninth as the head coach of the program. Amonte Hiller became the first Division I lacrosse coach (men's or women's) to win nine national titles, guiding NU to a championship win on home soil for the first time since 1986 (Maryland). The 'Cats took down three IWLCA No. 1-ranked squads throughout the course of the season, the most in a campaign in NCAA History. Northwestern has made six consecutive appearances in the NCAA Semifinals (2019-26), reaching the finals the last four consecutive seasons. After resurrecting a Northwestern program that had not competed at the varsity level in more than 10 years, Amonte Hiller led the Wildcats to the national semifinals 10 years in a row from 2005 to 2014 and tied an NCAA record with eight consecutive title game appearances in the process. Northwestern's dominance since its breakthrough 2005 season has been nothing short of legendary. Since 2004, Northwestern has gone 63-13 (.829) in the NCAA Tournament, making Amonte Hiller the winningest coach in tournament history. Along the way, Amonte Hiller has produced the nation's Tewaaraton Award winner in eight different seasons as well as the Honda Sports Award recipient on 10 occasions. Northwestern has featured 75 IWLCA All-Americans and won a total of 13 IWLCA positional Player of the Year awards (four attacker, five midfielder and four defender). Northwestern's rapid rise to national prominence under Amonte Hiller — particularly in an area of the country rarely associated with women's lacrosse — has caught the eyes of many, in and out of lacrosse. In 2011, ESPN The Magazine named Amonte Hiller one of the 20 best recruiters across all college sports, joining the likes of other multiple-time NCAA champion coaches Mike Krzyzewski of Duke (men's basketball) and Anson Dorrance of North Carolina (women's soccer). In 2012, the Big Ten Network profiled the NU head coach as one of 12 Big Ten coaching icons in the conference's history, putting her in the company of Big Ten legends such as Bobby Knight (Indiana), Bo Schembechler (Michigan) and Dan Gable (Iowa). In 2026, the NCAA Championship game between the Wildcats and UNC set a record with 657,000 viewers, making the first championship game hosted at Northwestern the most-watched women's lacrosse game in history. In February of 2018, Amonte Hiller was announced as the head coach of United States Lacrosse Women's U19 team, where she guided the United States to a gold medal at the 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's U19 World Championship in Peterborough, Ontario. Four other Wildcats also found their way onto the team: Madison Doucette, Elle Hansen, Izzy Scane and Greta Stahl. Amonte Hiller led the United States to another gold medal at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship in Hong Kong, China, after beating Canada 23-6. She mentored five fellow Wildcats on the U20 roster during the championship run, including Francesca Argentieri, Noel Cumberland, Hannah Rudolph, Madison Smith, and Madison Taylor. During the 2026 season, Amonte Hiller reached 400 career wins with a road win against Penn State. All 400 wins came at the helm of Northwestern, as she became the sixth coach in Division I women's lacrosse history to reach the milestone. On this episode of Conduct Detrimental: THE Sports Law Podcast, Dan Lust (@SportsLawLust) and Zac Hiller (Follow on LinkedIn) sit down for a career spotlight on one of the more unconventional paths in building an NFL agency from the ground up.Zac, the founder and CEO of LAA Sports & Entertainment, opens up about how he went from a Michigan sports management student and young sports-industry hopeful to launching his own agency in 2017. He explains why his first client, Dalvin Cook, became the catalyst for LAA's growth and how doing more than simply making a pitch helped him stand out in a crowded industry. From there, Dan and Zac break down what it actually takes to become an NFL agent and also discuss the importance of identifying talent early, building genuine relationships with athletes, and treating clients the right way long before they become household names. The conversation then turns to the evolution of LAA. Zac discusses representing 12 active NFL players, building an NIL practice across college athletics, and developing a music division through partnerships in the music publishing industry. Dan and Zac also dive into the changing world of NIL and athlete representation, including why the growing accessibility of NIL creates opportunities for aspiring agents to find and develop talent before the rest of the industry catches on. They discuss LAA's intern network, the value of having people on college campuses, and how a relationship with an overlooked player can eventually turn into an NFL client. Finally, Zac discusses his growing presence on LinkedIn and why he uses the platform to educate aspiring agents and young professionals about the realities of the sports industry rather than the Hollywood version of what being an agent looks like. The episode closes with Zac's biggest lessons: create your own opportunities, find mentors who genuinely want to see you succeed, stay prepared, and be willing to trust your instincts when the right opportunity arrives.Let us know your thoughts!***Have a topic you want to write about? Welcome to episode 342 of Grow Your Law Firm, hosted by Ken Hardison. In this episode, Ken sits down with Timothy Hiller, Partner at Hiller Comerford Injury & Disability Law. Tim shares how his firm is using AI to support a high-volume Social Security disability and VA practice while continuing to grow its personal injury department. The conversation explores how AI can help law firms build custom tools, streamline document-heavy work, improve financial forecasting, and reduce repetitive operational tasks. Tim also explains why firms need clear policies around data privacy and attorney review, how to communicate AI adoption to employees, and why he sees AI as a way to increase capacity and compete, not as a reason to reduce staff. What you'll learn in this episode: 1. How to Start Using AI in Your Firm - Why law firm owners should experiment with AI tools before deciding to implement them - How everyday use helps leaders understand what AI can and cannot do 2. Building Custom AI Tools Without a Large Development Team - How Claude Code can help firms create custom lead-generation tools, calculators, and dashboards - Why firms can use AI to build solutions that better fit their specific practice areas 3. Using AI for High-Volume, Document-Heavy Cases - How AI can help summarize and organize large medical and administrative records - Why attorney review remains essential before submitting AI-assisted work to a court 4. Protecting Client Data and Managing Risk - Why firms should understand enterprise agreements and data privacy before using AI with client information - How internal AI policies can help prevent inaccurate filings and avoidable mistakes 5. Helping Employees Adopt AI - Why firms should present AI as a capacity-building tool rather than a replacement for staff - How leadership communication, employee ambassadors, and one-on-one conversations can reduce resistance Resources: Website: hillercomerford.com LinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hiller-comerford-injury-disability-law Facebook: facebook.com/hillercomerford Instagram: instagram.com/hillercomerford Additional Resources: https://www.pilmma.org/the-mastermind-effect https://www.pilmma.org/resources https://www.pilmma.org/mastermind
In the final hour, Ben Ennis and Sam McKee chat with Maple Leafs Hotstove writer Anthony Petrielli about the Leafs' offseason moves. They discuss the front office's performance, D pairings, the addition of Jakob Chychrun, and the surprise over Riley's status. They also consider if hiring Hiller is an upgrade and how coaching changes could impact the team. A key question is whether Auston Matthews will return to his 60-goal form. Afterward, MLB Network's Adnan Virk (25:32) shares insights on the Blue Jays, addressing the need for a sale, potential returns for prospects, and whether the team can bounce back next year. He also shares his thoughts on The Odyssey. Battery energy storage fire safety is one of the most urgent permitting challenges facing solar and storage developers in 2026. Mike Nicholas, Energy Storage Specialist and Fire Consultant at Hiller Companies, brings a rare perspective: he built Kern County's entire BESS permitting program from scratch in 2019, when no national standards existed, and now travels the country helping developers, EPCs, and fire departments get these projects to yes.Kern County has the highest concentration of renewable energy and battery storage in California, including the largest active battery storage project in the world at roughly 3.2 GWh. Mike developed a 32-page submission guideline that standardized the permitting process and became a model other jurisdictions are now replicating. After retiring as a fire captain and assistant fire marshal in 2024, he joined Hiller, which represented about 85% of the battery storage clients that went through Kern County permitting. He now works with the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development and American Clean Power to build reference documents and videos for fire safety standardization. Here is what you will learn in this conversation about battery energy storage fire safety:Find out why the Moss Landing disaster changed everything. A fire inside an enclosed former power plant building destroyed an estimated 240 megawatts. An outdoor containerized failure, under current standards, would be contained to the enclosure of origin, a fraction of 1% of that loss. You'll understand why the industry is moving hard toward outdoor containerized deployments.Learn what UL 9540A and the new large-scale fire testing (LSFT) requirement in NFPA 855 (2026) actually require, and why they matter to first responders. You'll hear why the test forces a fully populated unit into a worst-case thermal runaway with suppression disabled, and what it means for containing a fire within the enclosure of origin.Understand what a complete Hazard Mitigation Analysis must include. Find out why a generic OEM document will not pass, and what site-specific elements, from failure modes analysis to emergency response plans for construction, commissioning, and decommissioning, are required under NFPA 855.You'll hear Mike's step-by-step account of what should happen from the moment a fire alarm sounds to the moment the incident command is established. Learn why gas meters, IR cameras, and a fire alarm annunciator panel at the static water tank are critical tools for first responders who may be 15 to 20 minutes from the battery yard inside the site.Find out what developers and EPCs get wrong in permitting. Mike explains why early engagement with the fire department, before land use approval, is not optional, and why hiring a registered design professional who knows NFPA 855 is the difference between hitting your financing deadline and chasing it.With BESS developers racing to lock in safe harbor and stay ahead of tightening FEOC and material-assistance thresholds, permitting delays and moratoria are a real threat to project timelines. Mike describes a shift already happening in California: under General Order 167-C, the California Public Utilities Commission now requires ESS operators to file emergency response plans and produce annual testing and maintenance reports, and Kern County has introduced an annual operational permit tied to emergency contact updates. These requirements are likely to spread nationally.Connect with Mike Nicholas Hiller Companies: https://hillerfire.com/ Support the showConnect with Tim Clean Power Hour Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. JD reacts further to the Maple Leafs hiring Jim Hiller. Justin Bourne (08:15), co-host of Real Kyper & Bourne, joins JD to share what he expects from Hiller, the patience this hire allows Toronto to have, and his likes and dislikes from his time with Hiller.
