 In this talk we explore how to work with the Zen Bodhisattva Precepts using an inquiry approach. Speaker Bio: Gambo Kyogan Berry Crawford first started practicing Zen meditation in 1992. He lived at the Sonoma Mountain Zen Center and practiced as a resident in the mid 1990s. Afterwards, he practiced with Diane “Eshin” Rizzetto in the Ordinary Mind Zen School started by Joko Beck. Later, he became a student of John “Shoji” Sorenson under whom he eventually received shiho (2022) and Inka Shomei (2025) in the lineage of Soto priest Soyu Matsuoka Roshi. He has also completed the Open Mind Zen koan curriculum under Russell “Kyofu Seikyo” Mitchell and was given dharma transmission in that lineage in 2025. Daniel faced the familiar familial pressures that many young people in Saigon face, to study hard and get good grades.Daniel's passions are and always have been music, food and fashion but under those family expectations went on to study Biochemistry in California. He spent six years studying in the US before being pressured to move back home to Saigon by his parents despite wanting to pursue his biggest passion, fashion.We talk about what it was like to come out to his parents as a gay man, and how they have handled that since. And what it is like to be LGBTQ in Saigon compared to other parts of Vietnam. You'll be surprised to learn that he is now married and expecting a baby boy soon.After moving back to Saigon Daniel was admittedly lost, qualifying to become an English Language teacher but never finding a job. Door het drukke programma van Go Ahead Eagles was sc Heerenveen afgelopen weekend vrij. Hierdoor was er alle ruimte om de tijd te nemen om te horen hoe het met Levi Smans gaat in de Friese ziekenboeg. In the chaos of the helicopter evacuation from Saigon in April 1975, Doan Hoàng Curtis' sister was somehow left behind. It would haunt her family for years. Doan was just three years old when her family made it onto one of the last helicopters to leave Saigon as troops from the communist North took over the city and the Vietnam war came to an end. Her father was a major for the South Vietnamese air force and if he'd stayed in Saigon he could have been killed. Leaving Vietnam was an extraordinary moment for the family, but one that would have a deep and lasting impact on them, because somehow, in the turmoil of the evacuation, Doan's 17-year-old half-sister Van was left behind. It would take Van six years and a treacherous journey via Thailand before she could be reunited with her family, who ended up settling in the United States. Doan says the anger and confusion of why her sister was left behind has defined her whole life. Now an award-winning documentary filmmaker living in the US, Doan returned to Vietnam in 2005 with her family - including her sister Van - to make a documentary and confront the past. Many of us have some family ancestry that has left us with skeletons in our closets? For Lindsay, that family ancestry included the Doan Gang. The Doan Gang was no small entity. There were at least 60 members of this gang and many of them were from the Doan family, hence the gang's name. Some went to prison, some escaped and some were executed. Despite being Quakers, they took part in a variety of crimes, including espionage during the American Revolution. This made them an enemy of America. There are a few legends and myths connected to the Doans, including stories of secret cave hideouts and hidden treasure. And some of those legends include some ghost stories.
