Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as the NHL's playoff race continues to heat up. To start today's show, they looked at some trade deadline additions that are fitting in nicely with their new clubs and a few that are off the rougher starts. That led them to some talk about the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Senators seem to have all but locked up their spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs but the eighth seed is still wide open. The Rangers are the betting odds favourites on Bet365 but both the Canadiens and Blue Jackets are right there in the mix. They also quickly touched on the Pittsburgh Penguins heater and how it's costing them valuable spots in the NHL's Draft Lottery standings. They then went out West, where Leon Draisaitl is on the verge of another 50-goal season. Jason talked about the significance of that while Frank wondered if Draisaitl has the Hart Trophy locked up or if Nathan MacKinnon should be getting more consideration. After that, Jason talked about his latest research project which is centred around the stunning drop in powerplays around the NHL. The numbers are jaw-dropping and led to the guys trying to figure out exactly why they have fallen as hard as they have.To wrap, Tyler popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Senators chances of getting a divisional playoff spot, the Jack Adams award, and the upcoming NHL GM Meetings.1:00 - Trade deadline early returns5:25 - Eastern playoff race8:55 - Penguins heater11:40 - Draisaitl chase for 50 & the Hart24:20 - Powerplay drop off32:30 - Buy or Sell (GM Meetings, Jack Adams, Senators heater)Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team?

After a brief holiday break, the boys are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown and while the league was dormant for most of the last week, there was still plenty to get to today on the pod.To kick things off, Jason and Frank talked about the Detroit Red Wings' decision to make a coaching change. For the just the second time in franchise history, the team has made an in-season coaching change and the guys debated if the teams' struggles had anything to do with the coach or if there is a bigger problem with the way that the roster in constructed. That led to some talk about the Eastern Conference playoff picture and the play of the Ottawa Senators. The Senators front office nailed some big moves this summer, some of which weren't viewed very positively at the time, while the moves that the Red Wings have made just haven't worked out.Of course, the eight seed in the East is really only open because the New York Rangers continue to struggle. Should they be the next to make a coaching change? Jason and Frank debated that and then had a conversation about how much of the blame should lay at the feet of GM Chris Drury. They then went out West and talked about the run that the Los Angeles Kings have been on. Should Jim Hiller be in the conversation for the Jack Adams? Why aren't more people talking about the insane season that 37-year-old Anze Kopitar is putting together? There are plenty of intriguing storylines out in Hollywood.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the who the best team in the East is, the Calder trophy odds, and Alex OVechkin's chase of the all time goal record. They then wrapped up with some talk about a few milestones that were hit over the weekend.0:55 - Red Wings fire Lalonde6:27 - The Eastern playoff picture16:55 - Are the Rangers dead?28:40 - The Kings recent run41:05 - Buy or Sell49:00 - Weekend MilestonesShoutout to our friends at Fountain Tire: https://www.fountaintire.com/promotions/?utm_source=tnn&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=fountainConnect with us on ⬇️TwitterInstagramWebsiteDaily Faceoff Merch Hosted on Acast. The FAN Morning Show goes into its final hour Thursday with Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning continuing the Leafs Talk. The hosting pair start off by making their case for Craig Berube to win the Jack Adams Award in his first year as Toronto's head coach. What would need to take place for it to happen? Sportsnet's own Luke Fox gives us his take on what this team's identity is this season, how they're being viewed around the league and if it's different than in the recent past. The trio also debate where the team can be improved and the ways to do it; what lines and pairings we could be looking at when they are fully healthy. To end today's episode, the morning duo turn back to the MLB offseason and wonder if Vlad Guerrero Jr. could be trolling the baseball world after liking a post of him in a Red Sox uniform alongside his pals, Juan Soto and Rafael Devers. B&B enlist the help of MLB Network's Adnan Virk (24:10) for his take on it, as well as where the Juan Soto signing sits with his final set of meetings this weekend and when we can expect a decision from him. What team and fanbase will be most disappointed if he chooses elsewhere to play? Which team would be in the worst spot by not getting him? Tune in to find out! The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

BENNY       @Causewaykings33 / Causewaykings33@GMAIL.COMCLANCE     @CausewayClancy4CHIGS -COACHCHIG@GMAIL.COMShout out to the WMEX Marketing crew and our partners!Thank you for listening and lets go B's! Boston Bruins' Performance and LeadershipThe team discussed the issues with the Boston Bruins, specifically their lack of effort and chemistry. They speculated that there might be something wrong internally with the team, independent of the coach, and that the team's roster was flawed. They also discussed the firing of the coach, with some agreeing with the decision and others not. The team also discussed the performance of players like David Pastrnak and Elias Lindholm, and the need for a change in leadership. The consensus was that the team's issues ran deeper than just the coach and that the organization needed to address the problems.Boston Bruins Performance and ChangesThe discussion revolved around the Boston Bruins' performance and potential changes. Merrill expressed concerns about the team's inconsistency, suggesting that the problem might lie with the players and the person picking them. The team's coaching changes were also discussed, with Merrill suggesting that the coaching change might not be enough to turn things around. The group also discussed the potential of acquiring players like Trevor Zegras and John Gibson, but ultimately decided against it. The conversation ended with a discussion about the challenges of playing with a center like Pasernak, who doesn't seem to commit defensively.Boston Bruins Struggles and CoachingMerrill and others discuss the struggles of the Boston Bruins this season. They critique players like Pastrnak, Carlo, and Lohrei for their defensive deficiencies. Anthony argues that the team's issues stem from a lack of supporting talent around the stars like Pastrnak. The group debates whether firing coach Montgomery was the right move, with some feeling the players deserve more blame for underperforming. There is disagreement over trading players like Carlo given the team's overall struggles. Anthony reveals that the rumored next coach of the Detroit Red Wings will be a controversial topic for their next discussion.Sergei Fedorov as NHL CoachThe group discusses the possibility of Sergei Fedorov becoming the first Russian head coach in the NHL. They express skepticism about star players succeeding as coaches, citing examples like Wayne Gretzky and Patrick Roy. The conversation then shifts to reminiscing about past unsuccessful Bruins coaches like Dave Lewis and the team's struggles during that era with questionable trades and signings.J.T. Miller's Leave and Ovechkin's RecordThe group discusses J.T. Miller's indefinite leave of absence from the Vancouver Canucks for personal reasons, likely related to the player assistance program. They praise the Canucks' young players like Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. The conversation then shifts to Alex Ovechkin's chances of breaking Wayne Gretzky's goal-scoring record this season after suffering a week-to-week injury. While they believe Ovechkin will eventually break the record, they debate whether it will happen this year given his age and the injury. The group also touches on the future of the Washington Capitals and the need for them to rebuild soon.Boston Bruins Roster and ManagementThe team discussed the Boston Bruins' performance and potential roster changes. They agreed that the team's management should consider trading away older players and acquiring younger talent. The idea of trading for players like Zegras was proposed, but concerns were raised about the Bruins' lack of draft picks and the difficulty of acquiring top talent. The team also discussed the possibility of a new general manager to implement a more effective strategy. The Bruins' management was criticized for prioritizing playoff appearances over long-term roster development. The team concluded that the Bruins' current roster is not sustainable and that significant changes are needed to improve their performance.Boston Bruins Coaching and PerformanceThe team discussed the recent performance of the Boston Bruins, focusing on their coaching and management. They criticized the team's General Manager, Sweeney, for his lack of success in drafting and trading players. They also discussed the firing of head coach, Jim Montgomery, and the potential for new head coach, Sacco, to be the next Jack Adams trophy winner. The team also discussed the performance of players such as Pasta, Marshon, and Lindholm. The conversation ended with a discussion about the history of the Bruins' drafts and the challenges faced by NHL coaches.

Frank is back from the GM Meetings and has some notes on what was discussed as some of the most influential minds in hockey got together. The league and the players association are getting close to having to negotiate a new CBA and that means each side is starting to have internal discussions about what they could want. That's where the guys started today on the podcast and it led to some interesting debates about whether or not they could change the term limits for player contracts, how LTIR could change, and other things that could be changed in the next CBA.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys who their quarter way Jack Adams winner would be and how many career points Connor McDavid will finish with when all is said and done. After that, they talked a little bit more about McDavid's upcoming milestone as he closes in on 1000 career points. Frank talked about a few players in the 1000 point club who were maybe a little under appreciated. They wrapped up the show by talking about the next Hockey Hall of Fame class and who are the locks to get in. They debated Carey Price, Joe Thornton, Duncan Keith, Ryan Getzlaf, and Duncan Keith and their chances of getting in.2:20 - Term limits17:44 - How could LTIR change?32:40 - Fill in the Blank46:00 - Under Appreciated players in the 1k club52:00 - Next HHOF Class$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team?
