Mike Doughty is many things; a solo artist, founding bandmember of Soul Coughing and Ghost of Vroom, and a published writer – who not only wrote two memoirs but also an oratorio based on the biblical Book of Revelation that was staged at WNYC's Greene Space. Simply put, Doughty has built a long-lasting career since his days of working as a doorman at the New York club, The Knitting Factory. On his way up, he embraced all aspects of the art of writing good songs, from welcoming “cowboy chords” when they come, to opening his mind up to the universe of avant-garde jazz – or even German grammar-inspired lyrics. Today, he is a storyteller who is honest with himself and transparent with his audience, composing and sharing new songs weekly with his patrons on Patreon while continuing to pour his heart out on the road, as he's about to do so on his Solo Tour '26, playing all over the United States. In the early days of this new adventure, Doughty joins our host, John Schaefer, with his collaborator, Andrew “Scrap” Livingston, for an intimate live performance and a warm chat for this edition of Soundcheck. This week on Beale Street Caravan we have Mike Doughty of hip-hop/indie fusion band, Soul Coughing. Listen to Doughty performing “Ruby Vroom” live from Bar DKDC in Cooper-Young, Memphis, TN.

In this special episode honoring International Women's Month, I had the pleasure of speaking with Maria Doughty, CEO of The Chicago Network, an organization made up of some of the most influential women leaders across Chicago's business, nonprofit, healthcare, and government sectors. Above all, Maria reminds us that women supporting women remains one of the most powerful forces for creating opportunity and lasting change. Here are the highlights: ● Traits of Exceptional Leaders: The most successful women leaders share intellectual curiosity, humility, and a strong commitment to civic engagement.● The Power of the Ask: Women must confidently articulate what they need and clearly make the ask in professional conversations. ● Why Civic Engagement Matters: Involvement in community and civic organizations often leads to powerful relationships and new opportunities. ● The Value of Board Experience: Serving on advisory or corporate boards helps women build leadership, governance, and strategic decision-making skills. ● Executive Presence & Personal Brand: How leaders show up, communicate, and present themselves shapes their influence and career trajectory. What's up legends? In this episode, I sit down with Aaron Doughty for a deep, honest conversation about why so many of us lose ourselves in relationships and how people-pleasing, self-abandonment, and unexpressed emotion quietly drain attraction, polarity, and connection. We explore how childhood conditioning shapes adult identity, why tension isn't something to avoid but a necessary catalyst for growth, and how the pursuit of approval keeps us disconnected from our authentic power. This episode weaves together inner child dynamics, masculine and feminine polarity, self-acceptance, neutrality, and the subtle ways urgency, ego, and validation run our relationships, business, and sense of self-worth. We unpack why worthiness is a concept rather than a feeling, how embracing discomfort restores respect and desire, and why becoming more yourself is the real path to intimacy, leadership, and freedom. If you've ever felt drained in relationships, stuck in people-pleasing patterns, or caught between self-development and self-acceptance, this conversation will challenge the way you see love, identity, and what it actually means to come home to yourself.WORK WITH ME

On Episode 597 of Spittin' Chiclets, the boys are absolutely humming. The Internet Invitational Finale came out with some insane cheating allegations, Paige & Malosi drama, Frankie's butterknife, and Beef, Francis & Dalke taking the crown. With all the golf talk, we have a Sandbagger dropping this Thursday, Gaborik's interview from last week was all-time, and plenty more chiclets content coming to you soon. The injury bug hammered the NHL this weekend. Doughty out, Dach fractured his foot, but nothing crazier than Jack Hughes slicing his hand at a team dinner. Eight weeks out… and yes, Frank the Tank. The curse lives. Luke Hughes finally pots his first, Marchand hits 1,000 points, Hyman returns throwing his weight around, and the Stars keep rolling. The boys bring on Frank, then send it to Ludwig for some classic Luds takes. Leafs lose five straight, Stecher claimed, Nylander ice cold, and trade rumors swirling. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for November 11, 2025 is: doughty DOW-tee adjective Doughty is a word with an old-fashioned flair used to describe someone who is brave, strong, and determined. // The monument celebrates the doughty townspeople who fended off invaders centuries ago. See the entry > Examples: “The film chooses to render our doughty heroes' super-costumes as cerulean-blue rollneck sweaters, which is a puzzling choice both aesthetically and practically: knitwear seems literally ill-fitted to derring-do.” — Glen Weldon, NPR, 25 July 2025 Did you know? There's no doubt that doughty has persevered in the English language—it's traceable all the way back to the Old English word dohtig—but how to pronounce it? One might assume that doughty should be pronounced DAW-tee, paralleling similarly spelled words like bought and sought, or perhaps with a long o, as in dough. But the vowel sound in doughty is the same as in doubt, and in fact, over the centuries, doughty's spelling was sometimes confused with that of the now obsolete word doubty (“full of doubt”), which could be the reason we have the pronunciation we use today. The homophonous dowdy (“having a dull or uninteresting appearance”) can also be a source of confusion; an easy way to remember the difference is that you can't spell doughty without the letters in tough (“physically and emotionally strong”).

BRITPOD - England at its best. In this episode, Aaron Doughty exposes what those declassified documents reveal about the nature of the mind, manifestation, and the illusion of control. They also discuss how fear, ego, and identity shape our reality, and why surrender may be the most powerful spiritual tool we have.OUR GUESTAaron Doughty is a spiritual teacher and YouTuber with a community of over 1.8 million subscribers, dedicated to assisting people in expanding their consciousness. Throughout this journey, he let go of a painful past, discarded labels that no longer served him, and liberated himself from many of the autopilot beliefs he had previously operated under.Since that pivotal moment, he has felt a deep sense of purpose in empowering others to recognize their innate high vibrational nature and free themselves from the pain and negative experiences of their past.Aaron believes his purpose is to raise his own vibration and level of consciousness, all the while helping others achieve the same. He believes, deep within, you too are on a similar journey of raising your own vibration, and as you do so, it has a transformative impact on the world.AARON DOUGHTY

In this episode of Summer Coolers, Neil Smith and Vic Morren dive into the offseason developments for the Los Angeles Kings after another frustrating playoff exit. For the fourth consecutive year, the Kings were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round—this time after holding multiple leads and letting key games slip away. With Rob Blake out and Ken Holland in as GM, the Kings are attempting to retool—but are they reloading or regressing? The hosts break down the impact of Holland's veteran-heavy signings—Corey Perry, Cody Ceci, Joel Armia, and Brian Dumoulin—all of whom push the Kings' roster deeper into “win-now” territory. But with an aging core that includes Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar, and a first-time head coach in Jim Hiller, there are real questions about whether this team can make it out of the first round, let alone compete for the Cup.They also revisit LA's playoff series against Edmonton, highlighting how close the Kings were to taking control—and how costly breakdowns and coaching decisions may have sealed their fate.IN THIS EPISODE:[00:00] A fourth straight playoff loss to the Oilers — what went wrong again?[01:00] Ken Holland takes over as GM — will he be the answer?[01:33] Offseason additions: Perry, Armia, Ceci, Dumoulin — average age over 34[02:40] Perry's Stanley Cup Final curse — five different teams, five losses[04:15] Game-by-game recap: blown leads, failed challenge, poor puck decisions[06:00] Byfield's development, Fiala's upside, and depth up front[07:15] Defensive drop-off: losing Gavrikov, aging Doughty, concerns with Ceci[08:10] Coaching hot seat: how long is the leash for Jim Hiller?[09:15] Could Peter DeBoer be an option if things go south early?KEY TAKEAWAYS:The Kings continue to stumble in the postseason, despite holding multiple leads over the Oilers in key games.Ken Holland's first offseason as GM focused on experience, but at the expense of speed and youth. The blue line took a hit with the loss of Vladislav Gavrikov, and the replacements (Ceci, Dumoulin) raise concerns.Jim Hiller is not Holland's hire, and with big expectations and a veteran group, a slow start could trigger changes.Quinton Byfield's second-half surge and the continued consistency of Kempe and Danault offer hope—but the pressure is building.RESOURCE LINKS:

Why do we keep attracting relationships that don't feel aligned — and what does that reveal about how we relate to ourselves? In today's episode of The Healing & Human Potential Podcast, I sit down with Aaron Doughty to explore the unseen energetic patterns that keep us stuck in cycles of over-giving, self-abandonment, and people-pleasing. We talk about why empaths are often drawn to narcissists, how early childhood roles shape our identity, and what it really means to reclaim your energy and worth. We also dive into powerful tools like Ho'oponopono, how to stop enabling others while still staying in your heart, and why true healing begins when we stop blaming and start taking full responsibility for the patterns we carry. If you've ever felt like you're giving more than you're receiving, or drawn to fix others at the cost of yourself, this conversation offers a new perspective on what healing can look like. Tune in and discover how to step out of old survival strategies and into the kind of connection that reflects your true worth. === GUEST LINKS Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aarondoughty44 Website: https://aarondoughty.com === Have you watched our previous episode with Robert? Have you been asking yourself lately: What the actual f* is going on in relationships right now?! Because SAME. So I brought back my soul bro, spiritual philosopher, and YouTube king himself—Aaron Doughty—to channel the masculine, while I spoke on behalf of you: The divine feminine, goddess-coded, shadow-integrating, boss babe who just wants a relationship that actually feels good. And let me tell you… we WENT IN. We talk about: The three levels of consciousness in dating + relationships (yes, David Deida style) The unconscious roles of victim, perpetrator, and rescuer—and how we're all playing them Why you might be confusing love with a full-time healing project What to do if your partner isn't growing with you How to stop being your partner's coach and start being their equal And why some relationships are meant for love, joy, and family—not shadow work 24/7 We also get super real about the fantasy so many spiritual women are holding onto: That someday, someone will come along who's fully healed, fully conscious, and doesn't trigger any part of your trauma… Yeah. About that.. This episode is your permission slip to stop fixing, stop overanalyzing, and stop trying to spiritually engineer your soulmate into existence. Because the tea is: maybe the healing is in letting go of the need to “do the work” for your partner—and finally trusting yourself to choose peace, clarity, and connection. This one's for the girlies who are tired of dating emotional projects, want actual polarity, and are ready to understand wtf is really going on between men and women right now—from a high-vibe, grounded, actually-helpful perspective.
