Our text from Psalms is at the root of everything that we do. It is one of the Psalms of accent that was sung on the way into worship. It begins in the depths of sorrow with a cry to the Lord. No matter how low we may be, if we raise our voice to call on God, He will hear us. Though we are unworthy, God’s love is forgiving. If He were to hold us accountable for our iniquities, none of us would have any hope, but God…. In verse four, God provides a way out of our failings and shortcomings. That forgiveness is the only thing that we can look to for hope. But God is that Sweet Whisper of Hope.

This is an audio version from our YouTube channel. David Skeet takes us through another devotional focused around Psalm 130
Sermons and teaching from Northern Hills Community Church.
Psalm 130 starts with a cry to God. The psalmist is deep distressed, in particular because he sees the terrible separation from God that his sin brings. He does not stay in distress however. God's word reminds him that God is a God who forgives, who does not keep a record of sins. And so the psalm ends with the psalmist longing for God and extolling God's goodness to others. This psalm is a spiritual journey that helps us understand how we too can long for God and delight to tell other how great He is.
Life is hard sometimes. The world is seemingly filled with reasons to abandon the expectation that there is anything or anyone worth trusting in through all circumstances. However, you can have hope because the God who made you hears you, forgives you, speaks to you, and redeems you.

Rev. Darin Stone continues our series from the Psalms of Ascent, this week featuring Psalm 130. When we find ourselves in the pit of despair due to our own actions, there are three wrong ways to handle our guilt and shame. 1. Compare ourselves with others 2. Relativize the truth about our sin. 2. We wallow in our guilt instead of accepting God's grace. We need to remember that as vile as we are, there is more grace with God than there is sin in us. We need to hope in the Lord and not ourselves. Unfortunately the 8/16 sermon is not available due to technical difficulties.
