This week we have a message about (Hope) Week 1 of Advent with Pastor Travis. These are some of the Scriptures that were referenced during the sermon and the history of Advent.Advent HistoryAdvent is something the church has been practicing for manycenturies. It started around the 4th and 5th century, mostlyin Spain and Gaul (what is now France), as a time for believersto prepare their hearts before celebrating the birth of Jesus. Theword “Advent” simply means coming or arrival. Over time itbecame a four-week season where we slow down and remindourselves why Jesus came the first time—and that He's comingagain. Each week we light a candle to help us focus on what Hiscoming brings into our lives: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.Advent helps us prepare our hearts, remember that Jesus is withus, and to recogmize that God is still at work in our world today.Psalm 130:5-8 (NKJV)5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning—Yes, more than those who watch for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption.8 And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.Isaiah 9:1-2 (NLT)9 Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. 2 The people who walk in darknesswill see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.Ephesians 2:20 (NKJV)20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,1 Corinthians 3:10-11 (NKJV)10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.Read: Romans 8:18-23 (NLT), Romans 15:13 (NLT)Thank you for listening and join us next time for more great teachings from The Word. If you feel led to give towards this podcast ministry you can do so through the same ways that you give your tithes & offerings by writing Podcast ministry.
In a world often filled with darkness, the birth of Jesus is God's radiant reminder that light has come—and that light lives in us. Join us as we dive into our Christmas sermon series entitled Arise & Shine: The Christmas Story. Christmas is the story of His illumination and the invitation for us is to arise and shine!
The Thrill of Hope - Week 2December 07, 2025Introduction: Pastor Dave BrownTeacher: Glen PetersonThe Story we live in..... is the Story we live out. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder. For as in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. Every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace…” Isaiah 9:2-6 (niv)The Kingdom of God-Life in God's presence and God's power-has now become available to ordinary people like you and me.Its right here, right now.“Son of man, can these dry bones live?” “Sovereign Lord, you alone know."“Non-discipleship costs abiding peace, a life penetrated throughout by love, faith that sees everything in the light of God's overriding governance for good, hopefulness that stands firm in the most discouraging of circumstances, power to do what is right and withstand the forces of evil. In short, it costs exactly that abundance of life Jesus said he came to bring (John 10:10).” Dallas Willard
Advent 2025 HOPE Week 1 Where Do You Put Your Hope? Luke 1:26-38
In this Advent episode, Dr. Scott Sherwood of Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene explores the theme of Hope. Describing the season as an "adventure," he invites listeners to look back at the Incarnation and forward to the Second Coming. Sherwood contrasts wishful thinking with biblical hope, which Romans 5 describes as the product of suffering, perseverance, and character. Ultimately, he challenges us to realize that hope isn't just something we find, but something we become through the presence of Christ. The Thrill of Hope - Week 1November 30, 2025Teacher: Pastor Dave BrownThe season of advent is marked by hope filled waiting.Christ has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come again. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.— Isaiah 9:6-7Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”— Revelation 21:1-5aChrist has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come again.A waiting person is a patient person. The word “patience” means the willingness to stay where we are and live the situation out to the full in the belief that something hidden there will manifest itself to us. Impatient people are always expecting the real thing to happen somewhere else and therefore want to go elsewhere. The moment is empty. But patient people dare to stay where they are. Patient living means to live actively in the present and wait there. Waiting, then, is not passive. It involves nurturing the moment, as a mother nurtures the child that is growing in her womb.— Henri NouwenWhat God does in us as we wait is just as important as what we're waiting for.Christ has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come againJesus's resurrection is the beginning of God's new project not to snatch people away from earth to heaven but to colonize earth with the life of heaven.— N.T. WrightIn this season, we might not wait well. We might become impatient and disgruntled and lose hope. But, dear friend, the good news of Advent is not that we are faithful in our waiting; it's that God is faithful in his coming.— Rich VillodasChrist has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come again
This Sunday was the conclusion of our Becoming A Redemptive Resistance series, as well as the start to our Advent series. Resisting cynicism and seeking after hope is an important concept in Scripture. We observe the season of Advent as a time of hope, celebrating Jesus' first coming and looking towards His second coming.
This Sunday, Joey explores the tension between Christ's first coming and his promised return, arguing that biblical hope is fundamentally different from mere optimism, it acknowledges darkness and brokenness rather than ignoring them. Using George Frederic Watts' painting "Hope" as a central metaphor, we illustrate how hope means continuing to play music on life's "one remaining string" even when circumstances feel broken and uncertain. This emphasizes that this kind of hope isn't about escaping a broken world but trusting God to rebuild the ruins, and it's sustained not through individual strength but through community support while waiting for restoration.Support the show
Send us a textWhen darkness seems unending, God speaks light. Advent begins with hope—the promise that God's rescue plan is already underway.
All throughout both the Old and New Testaments, we see a clear pattern of people in Scripture turning to prayer and fasting in times of uncertainty, brokenness, and need. And in those examples, we find that prayer and fasting are not just religious obligations but natural responses to desperation. And we find that moments of crisis can lead to spiritual renewal when approached with humility and dependence on God. And we find that whether you and I are facing the unknown road ahead or the ruins of life, the invitation is to pray and fast, recognizing that our deepest hunger can only be satisfied by God. Preacher: Kathy Maskell Scripture: Jeremiah 30:12-22 | 31:31-34 Jeremiah 30:12-15 NIV This is what the Lord says: “Your wound is incurable, your injury beyond healing. There is no one to plead your cause, no remedy for your sore, no healing for you. All your allies have forgotten you; they care nothing for you. I have struck you as an enemy would and punished you as would the cruel, because your guilt is so great and your sins so many. Why do you cry out over your wound, your pain that has no cure? Because of your great guilt and many sins I have done these things to you.” Jeremiah 30:16-17, 22 “But all who devour you will be devoured; all your enemies will go into exile. Those who plunder you will be plundered; all who make spoil of you I will despoil. But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord, “because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.” “So you will be my people, and I will be your God.” Jeremiah 31:33-34 “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. No longer shall they teach one another, or say to teach other, ‘Know the Lord;, for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.”

When Tim Hill signed on with the Yankees in the middle of 2024, it was logical to have tempered expectations. The guy had just been cut by the White Sox, who were in the midst of a season that would see them set the record for losses in a season. But the left-hander with the quirky delivery became a crucial part of the Yankees' bullpen, pitching high-leverage innings in the World Series before re-signing with the team in the offseason. He chatted with Yankees Magazine deputy editor Jon Schwartz about the weird journey, the weirder pitching mechanics and plenty of stuff that's less weird, including a life story filled with struggles that continue to push him to new heights. Then, YES Network's Meredith Marakovits joins Jon to chat about HOPE Week, the remarkable five-day stretch every year when the Yankees head into the community to change lives and inspire millions of fans. Finally, Brian Richards checks in from the New York Yankees Museum presented by Bank of America, where he opens a chapter of the History Books to talk about a tradition started during a June start by Ron Guidry nearly half a century ago.
