Re-Introduction What Dietrich has been up to since the last podcast Bobby- Intro Topic: Medical Considerations for Aviation Accidents, Intro Videos on Skinny Medic's IG channel DC, Philadelphia, Alaska 87 accidents so far this year in the US, 13 of them fatal Toronto, no deaths, 21 injuries, plane landed and flipped upside down. When you are flying, keep ID and important docs on you during takeoffs and landings. Don't bring a bag with you! Scene Considerations Dietrich-lives close to a small airport; decent probability of an incident in your call area I live in the flight path for Dallas Love field. Location-water, runway, road, forested area? Leaking fuel? Fuel is stored in the wings which are likely to be damaged Number of patients? Resources available? Likely types of trauma Similar to a car crash, but higher energy impact Typically gliding into obstacles, but there are planes with parachutes Head injuries Fractures Bleeding Do we move patients out of a plane? Dynamic situation, which could change quickly. Pilots use a few factors to decide whether to order an evacuation. I would think of it like they do. Severity:A major fire, uncontrolled smoke, or severe structural damage would necessitate an immediate evacuation. Location and accessibility:If the plane is on the ground and accessible to emergency services, evacuation might be quicker and safer. Ability to manage the emergency:If the crew believes they can contain the issue and safely land the plane, they might not initiate an evacuation. When a pilot might choose to keep passengers on board: Minor emergencies:Minor structural damage might not warrant an immediate evacuation. Potential for further danger:If evacuating could put passengers at greater risk due to the location or weather conditions, the pilot might choose to remain on board until a safer opportunity arises. MARCH Review M: Massive hemorrhage A: Airway R: Respiration C: Circulation H: Hypothermia or head injury. Are you creating a hypothermia condition by evacuating? In this episode, hosts Alan Sanders and Walt Murray and joined by Kerry Slone, female advocate and social media maven at Stilettos and Shotguns. Kerry has been speaking to, and empowering, women for years. As a victim of domestic violence herself, she wants to teach women how to protect themselves and their loved ones. She is a strong advocate for the second amendment, but is the first person to tell you, not everyone should have a gun. However, those who wish to be able to defend themselves should not have barriers put in their way. Part of our discussion dives into classic feminism versus the new modern feminism and how they are at odds with one another. We conclude with an announcement by Kerry of a new initiative of hers, through her non-profit, We the Female, to help train and pay for the permits for up to 250 women in the Houston area. She hopes that event will be just one of many more to follow around the country. As we move to Walt's review of yet another horrible movie, Kerry sticks around and has fun weighing in on it and the rest of our segments. After the film review, Alan and Walt dive into their it's no BS news segment followed by the entertainment segment. WATCHING Walt binged Cocaine Cowboys and found it quite entertaining. He has also started to re-watch Santa Clarita Diet. Finally, he caught Ferris Bueller's Day Off currently running on Netflix. Alan watched the Spielberg film, War Horse, for the first time and loved it. He also kept up with some of his favorite YouTube channels, including Ashleigh Burton and Popcorn in Bed, both of whom happened to react to Mad Max Fury Road. Of course, this meant Alan has a re-watch of the movie, himself. Kerry has been re-watching the series, Turn, about the spies of the Revolutionary War. She is also re-watching The Walking Dead and recommends the John Adams miniseries starring Paul Giamatti. READING Walt is continuing to pour though the homage to the road trip, "Don't Make Me Pull Over." Kerry suggests, "Revolutionary Mothers," and, "Dearest Friend," which are the letters of Abigail Adams. LISTENING Walt suggests three podcasts this week: This Won't Hurt a Bit, Superego and Mascots. Alan has been listening this week to the album, Hummingbird, by the New Age group 2002 as well as the double-album, Pulse, by Pink Floyd. As to podcasts, he has been listening to The Great Escape Minute, Radio Labyrinth and 60MW Podcast. Kerry has been grooving to some 80's punk classics and comparing the sounds of British punk versus American. She loves the song, "Down from the Mountain," off the O, Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. On YouTube, she likes, The Skinny Medic, and enjoys the rapid-fire humor on the Johnny B channel, especially Spicy Fridays.

Thank you for tuning in to listen to “The Prepping Academy.” We’ve had some amazing guest the past two weeks. If you missed out on our shows with “Survivor Jane” and “Skinny Medic” be sure to head over to the prepping academy to listen to the archived shows. The two of them were able to share with us a wealth of information and also their personal experiences that led them to become preppers.Prior to that Forrest and Kyle had been covering their “Prepping 101” series. This series is intended for newcomers and veteran preppers. If you’ve just started it will be an excellent guide to evaluating what steps you need to be taking from two long time preppers with more than 30 years combined experience. If you’re a vetern prepper our hope is that you’ll listen to evaluate your preps and maybe we’ll be able to shed some light on some weaker areas. When we last left off we had covered up to the first 120 days of your prepping journey. As with the first two sections of the series we will be covering purchases, training actions, and mindset. These items all go hand in hand. As we’ve said before, you can have all the most expensive guns and gadgets, but if you don’t have the mindset it’s all going to be worthless. A few items we will be discussing more in depth are: power options, backup communications, primary and secondary firearms, prepping your bug out bag, char cloth, and camping. We will also be discussing Kyle’s conspiracy of the week.Signed up for “The Prepping Academy” newsletter at preppingacademy.com. When it comes to prepping there are a lot of unknowns. Almost always Preppers tend to be known as self sufficient. What are the things you can’t prepare for on your own? Self analyzing is just as important as evaluating the existential threats we see everyday around us. So for a moment ask yourself a few real questions. Can you treat a bullet wound? Apply a tourniquet? Treat an infection? Do you know how to properly move an injured person with a potential spinal injury?Every prepper knows the basics: food, water, and shelter. In a perfect world that may be all you need. What happens when things aren’t so perfect? Family and friends may have to look to you when there are no longer medical services. In just about every grid down scenario medical services will cease. Social unrest could prevent you from reaching your destination. So what have you done to get your medical needs in order? Have you evaluated your personal health? Get these things done now! Above all, start learning the skills you’ll need in case of an emergency.Join Forrest and Kyle Friday as they talk with “Skinny Medic” about your medical prepping needs. Dietrich Easter is the Skinny Medic on YouTube. He has been a paramedic in 911 EMS for 14 years. He also posts videos that can help you in a medical emergency situation. The videos may also help you in everyday situations, or even if you find yourself in an active shooter event. You never know when you will be the first responder!Skinny Medic will also be attending “Prepper Camp” in September so if you are a prepper and you want to know what is vital to have in your medical kits (car, backpack, home, etc), you need to take his class. Find out what you need (and what you don’t need) to have on hand. A first aid kit is not a one size fits all! Find out what supplies you should have in your car, home and at the range.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/preppingacademy)
