Bit of a public service announcement for the bulk of this week's edition of Overdrive Radio. FMCSA Office of Registration director Ken Riddle emphasizes just what owners with motor carrier authority need to do by May 14 this week to prep for the agency's long-awaited new registration system, called Motus. Maybe you'd also been wondering just what was so important about the May 14 deadline in the agency's most recent notification to the industry about it. On May 14, Riddle noted, at roughly 8 p.m. Eastern time, FMCSA's current registration system will go dark. Motor carriers and other registered entities need to do three things by that time to ensure that getting set up to manage the company's profile in Motus is, with any luck, a smooth one this coming week. **Log into your FMCSA Portal account to confirm it is active. If your account is disabled or archived, reach out to the FMCSA Contact Center to have the account unlocked. **In the Portal, ensure your company information, operation classification, contact information, and individuals authorized to access your record are all correct, with special emphasis on ensuring hte correct primary company official who will need to claim the account in the new Motus system. **Make any updates to your company information in the FMCSA Portal the same way you complete a Biennial Update. Select “Biennial Update (MCS-150)” in the “Registration” tab. Details from the most recent notice: https://overdriveonline.com/15823610 Next week Motus will launch likely Tuesday the 19th, and every entity that uses it for MCS-150 updates and all manner of other changes, as noted, will need to claim their Motus profile. Personal ID verfiication will be part of it, and though the old system will come back online, registration functionality will be gone. Find more details about the rollout in the podcast, likewise the extent to which this transition itself will function to weed out a lot of the junk of inactive, long-dormant entities from the system, and how it could hold big import for combating all the impersonation that's gone on with hackers taking over legitimate carriers' authorities as well as "chameleon" entities using multiple DOTs to evade enforcement. Folks all around trucking and among state enforcement officials join the the highest federal enforcement officer in the land, current FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs, in hopes that Motus will ultimately correct current registration limitations in detection of potential bad actors from the moment they apply for authority and the color of legitimacy it brings. Barrs called issues therein FMCSA's “front door problem” as part of CBS 60 Minutes' reporting on Super Ego and the shape-shifting entities in its network. FMCSA registration director Ken Riddle speaks to some of the ways Motus will evolve to help combat that, and of course what carriers need to do before the transition kicks off Thursday this week. Good news is this should be a major cleanup effort itself, he said, and he wants legitimate carriers to take the steps to make sure it's as smooth as possible. For those who don't, there could be a lot of waiting for help on the other end of the transition. Just how likely is any given owner-operator to be inspected during the next installment of the Roadcheck inspection event? It's slated for May 12-14 next week, and if the 2025 event provides a roadmap, your chance is about 1 in 5. Just post-Roadcheck last year a few thousand of you weighed in with answer to the question shown in a chart you'll find at https://overdriveonline.com/15824079 21% of poll respondents reported being inspected during the three days of the 2025 event. A lot's been made in some recent years of how routine, really, those three days can feel in certain areas of the country, but the 21%-inspected number is well more than the roughly 15% of owner-operators who reported an inspection of some kind during the fully seven-day late-summer Brake Safety Week ithe prior year in 2024. So maybe it's true: Roadcheck really is more of an all-hands-on-deck sort of inspection event. In this week's Overdrive Radio, sit in on my CCJ colleague and editor Jason Cannon's talk with Travis Baskin, head of regulatory affairs for the Motive company, about the 2026 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Roadcheck, and ways owner-ops, drivers and small fleet owners might prepare for a focus on false logs. And not just as a result of the kinds of whole-cloth backend electronic logging device manipulation we're seeing new evidence of just today with a report from Overdrive's Alex Lockie about one driver's experience at a carrier CBS News linked to the Super Ego network of so-called "chameleon" fleets: https://overdriveonline.com/15823957 Regular readers will recall false logs was also the focus last year, CVSA's annual campaign particularly keying in on misuse of personal conveyance, with results that showed hours of service as the single biggest out-of-service violation category. The year overall marked something of a sea change for the false-logs category as inspectors focused on PC misuse and were increasingly aware of ELD manipulation, too. 2026 false-log violation rates are on pace through March to hit the big totals seen in 2025 nationwide. This year, you can expect PC to remain in focus, and CVSA has created a new violation code for backend hours manipulation by a fleet or operator in concert with an ELD provider. So far, our sister data company RigDig's accounting of violations hasn't caught up to the code coming into play in the data just yet -- it began to be issued April 1 this year with the annual OOS criteria update. Yet today we can show you some new rankings of states by their propensity to focus closely on and catch hours violations: https://overdriveonline.com/15824079 Indiana's sitting at the very top of that list, issuing just more than 1 in every 4 violations in 2025 for hours infractions. Behind Indiana, all at higher than 20% hours violations, are Kansas, Oregon, South Dakota, Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa and Colorado. On the logbook fraud front, too, it's not just backend manipulation by a fleet or ELD company at issue, Travis Baskin notes. You've probably heard the “ghost driver” terminology, an electronic variant on the extra-logbook-under-seat approach to making it look right. Baskin, speaking to Cannon just ahead of CVSA's annual workshop event early last month, said "this is the type of stuff I know that the CVSA is very well aware of," Baskin said. "I know there's going to be a focus on this type of behavior." Nearly one year after the election of Chicago-born Pope Leo XIV, Norah O'Donnell speaks with three of the most influential American cardinals in their first joint interview about how Pope Leo's church has emerged as a voice of moral opposition to the war with Iran and against the crackdown on immigration in the U.S. O'Donnell interviews Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago; Cardinal Robert McElroy, Archbishop of Washington, D.C.; and Cardinal Joseph Tobin, Archbishop of Newark, NJ, about the effect Pope Leo is having on the Catholic Church. She also travels to Italy to visit Castel Gandolfo, the 400-year-old papal summer retreat. Continuing the work of his predecessor, Pope Francis, Pope Leo is opening the property up to the world to create opportunities for migrants and the less fortunate. 60 MINUTES investigates a scheme putting us at risk on our roadways - the rise of dangerous commercial trucking fleets called chameleon carriers. Known for flouting federal regulations and racking up safety violations, these often foreign owned and operated networks are four times more likely to be involved in severe crashes. Bill Whitaker reports on one such scheme - Super Ego - a network of commercial trucking and leasing companies that is currently under federal investigation and named in a class action lawsuit. The coastal waters around Cape Town, South Africa had long been a global destination for seeing great white sharks. That was until about ten years ago, when these feared predators began washing up on beaches with their livers missing. Correspondent Anderson Cooper goes to South Africa to investigate a whodunnit that's fueled a bitter feud among scientists and conservationists who can't agree on who, or what, is the real culprit. Imagine you enter a messy room,.. How do you feel? Can we compare our mind with a messy room, when we are distracted? The first Method: In our mind we have many voices that are arguing, negotiating, or even disturbing us…If we deny one of these voices, we support this voice with energy and strengthen it.For instance, a devotee went to his guru and complained that his mind was chattering all the time so he could not meditate or find peace…The guru said: don't think on mice, if you think on a mouse punish yourself… Because if you think about mice you eventually become a mouse in your next life… The devotee went home and was wondering why his Guru had told him not to think on mice? He has never thought on mice before… But when he started with his meditation; he was continuously thinking about mice… It became worse and worse… What you deny/neglect/suppress/fight that you empower…So we watch our thoughts and don't fight against them.We give our different voices unique names so we can identify them without fighting …For instance. The complainerThe critic Inner childSuperegoPerfectionistAnxiousAngerMotherBrotherSisterFatherDarlingJustificationPoliceJudgerPoliticianSellerBuyerGreedyBoringCreative….When a voice wants to say something we let the voice say something to us. Afterwards we say: “thank you for sharing.” Or if we don't have time, please wait, share your opinion in an hour or so… (be truthful and definitive).Through the discrimination of our different voices and watching them, they will lose their power over us… Quote: If you call a demon by his name, he becomes weaker… The second Method:We make every day 3 times brainstorming for 5 minutes and write down every single thought…After a month, we read all of our thoughts. Then we identify our thinking pattern that repeats and again… So if we run the next time in the same pattern we already have identified, we simply notify that… And the thinking pattern will lose so their power over us. In this episode, Lori breaks down what it really means to rehabilitate your ego—not destroy it. Most people live entirely from their Id, the impulsive part of the mind that seeks comfort, validation, and control at any cost. But when you learn to balance the Id, Ego, and Superego, you stop reacting from fear and start responding from awareness. You'll discover: *The difference between a healthy ego and an inflated one. *How the Id drives impulsive behavior, emotional reactivity, and control issues. *Why “ego death” isn't the goal—ego integration is. *How to retrain the ego to support your higher self instead of sabotaging it. *Real practices from ACT Therapy and cognitive defusion to detach from ego-driven stories. *How to recognize when your Id is running your relationships, habits, and inner dialogue. If you've ever felt stuck between wanting peace and needing control, this episode will help you step into clarity and rebuild a healthy inner authority. Your ego isn't the enemy—it's your untrained protector. Teach it peace, not power. Become A Patreon: www.patreon.com/thepositivityxperience Let's Work Together: www.thepositivityxperience.com

Dr Carveth begins by describing the difference between the narcissistically based superego from the object-oriented conscience. He sees the former as culturally derived and the latter as biologically given. We discuss how in the clinical situation persecutory guilt, i.e., superego, may often be emphasized to defend against the vulnerabilities associated with loving and being loved. We consider the use and overuse of the concept of trauma in contrast to intrapsychic conflict, and he distinguishes between empathy and sympathy. He shares his view that the edges of our political parties are imbued with the self-certainty born from the paranoid position. Ultimately, he concludes, “I'm not afraid that analysis will disappear – people who have problems with their soul will seek out soul doctors.”

“The subject of affairs, I think it's of interest to everybody. We have all had an Oedipal experience - we've all been babies who have at some point realized that we are not the only person. We're not perfectly fused with our mother, and she has other things to do, and there may be a father. We've all known what rejection feels like, and probably betrayal, and I think that affairs are in our unconscious. I think that's sort of evident in the way that most great novels, most great films, or at least many, have an affair at their heart. From Anna Karenina to Madame Bovary to Fatal Attraction, I think this is something that is just interesting. I wanted to write about affairs because I think they are a way of showing what psychoanalysis can do in a field in which everyone has an opinion on, and probably most people, in some way, have been indirectly or directly affected by. That was really the sort of the genesis for wanting to write about affairs.” Episode Description: We consider the challenge of writing about dynamic treatments in a manner that is accessible to the non-clinical reader. Juliet's book about affairs opens up this widely recognized experience and adds intrapsychic insights without using emotionally - distancing jargon. She introduces us to individuals who have been involved in affairs, with carefully protected confidentiality, who generally reveal the power of past experiences to influence adult choices. Some end happily, and some end in agony. Juliet demonstrates the usefulness of bringing a dynamic listening to both accepting and deepening each individual's lifelong search for love. Our Guest: Juliet Rosenfeld is a psychoanalyst and a member of the British Psychoanalytical Society, London. She studied at Oxford before a 15-year career in advertising and marketing, ending up in Government Communications. During this time, she began a Master's at the Tavistock and Portman Trust in Organizational Consultancy and started training as a psychotherapist a year later. She qualified as an integrative psychotherapist in 2012. Juliet was an elected trustee of the UK Council of Psychotherapy for four years, and is presently one of two clinician Trustees at the Freud Museum London, Sigmund Freud's final home. Juliet is the author of two books, The State of Disbelief ( 2020) and Affairs, True Stories of Love, Lies, Hope and Desire. Juliet's broader interest is in how psychoanalysis might be more accessible, and its ideas put into non-clinical language for audiences who may never be able to access psychotherapy themselves but are curious about what the unconscious means and what goes on in the consulting room. "Just as you are right now, present yourself fully, nakedly with all of your imperfections and no hope of cleaning them up. Then see what is, see what welcomes you just as you are." As human beings, we have a natural egoic desire to improve ourselves. It is part of our survival mechanism, but when that desire turns into an endless search for perfection, we overlook what is already whole. What if for one moment you consciously choose to stop all efforts of self-improvement and simply meet yourself just as you are? What fear arises to be met? In this recording Gangaji reads a letter that dives into this essential invitation to stop. It is an opportunity to see through the lie that "something is missing” and recognize the true depths of who you truly, already are. One of Plato's major contributions in his work The Republic and the Phaedrus is his concept of the tripartite division of the soul. In this video, I analyse what Plato meant with the tripartite division of the soul and also its implications and impact in later philosophy, most notably its connections with Freud's concept of the id, ego and superego, as well as its implications in our modern lives. Does not having a penis make you feel inferior due to a bad case of penis envy? Do you or have you ever wanted to have sex with your mother? Or your father? When most people think of Freud they think of his more extreme notions and theories, stuff like his Oedipus and Electra complexes. But he also really helped us understand our unconscious mind and how it interacts with our conscious mind. How the id, ego, and superego shape our personalities and desires. A fascinating blend of important science and insanity today as we explore the life and ideas of Sigmund Freud! Josef London has been a cornerstone of the Esalen community for more than 30 years. In our conversation Josef shares about the leap of faith that brought him to Esalen from Rio de Janeiro in search of healing, transformation, and a place to call home. Today, guests know him from the Gate; he is one of the first people they meet upon arriving at Esalen. He has a delightful smile, but what they may not know is that Josef is steeped in the philosophy of Gestalt, and that he is decidedly not conflict averse - rather, he believes that conflict is where the truth comes out. Yet that at the same time, Josef believes fun is mandatory. He is a lover, with a huge heart, and in this conversation he speaks lovingly and at length about the love he lost, his wife Montgomery. You'll be touched by this conversation with one of Esalen's memorable characters. "Thank you so much." Photo by Kate Kondratieva
What happens when we really utilize the power of our mind to break through blocks to success in our lives? Or maybe you are facing a pivot and do not want to go backward into old patterns? Our guest today is researcher and best-selling author Ravinder Taylor. She has helped literally thousands of people change their state of mind and therefore empower their lives. Her latest book is “Mind Training: The Science of Self-Empowerment.” Ravinder talks about solid research which analyzed the importance of your state of mind, including a technique which improved cognitive abilities, reduced stress, and also made progress toward dementia. When she studied it further, she knew she could go deeper. What she wanted to do was take away the mystic around “self-help,” and show how in a scientific manner that positive change could be proven. She studied various self-help techniques so that the reader could find methods that work for themselves. She was looking specifically at a 12-minute meditation, which had spiritual undertones. She talks about the Sikh tradition in which she was raised, although she turned away from organized religion. She further studied brainwave entrainment and how it works with meditation. She suggests bringing your own faith into your meditation, if that feels right for you. She talks about what beliefs mean and how certain ideas get into our mind. The subconscious beliefs are so powerful, but first she says we must understand where the beliefs originated. She talks about the divided mind that Freud explored which includes the Ego, the Id, and the Superego. She furthers talks about the idea of the 4 Selves and what they mean. Who do we believe we can be? It's not about perfection, it's about our personal successes. We can actualize them. Her training is about being the best you can be. She further looks at psycho-social development, starting as an infant. Each period of our life lets us learn different things. She outlines the stages and shares ways to correct behaviors toward empowerment through various exercises. We can look back at our own childhoods and see where patterns started. Ravinder discusses her research into the Law of Attraction – Ask, Believe, and Receive. She talks about insecurities, self-destructive behaviors, and the importance of choosing, rather than asking. This is Part 1 of the interview. Info: RavinderTaylor.com
On today's episode, I talk about the id, ego, and super-ego, the different parts of the psyche coined by psychologist Sigmund Freud. I then dive into the process of creating a new identity from the fragmented one you are currently playing out. I also talk about why one needs to separate themselves from culture (super-ego) in order to find yourself. —The Anxiety Recovery Program— https://unpluganxiety.com/my-program/ —1 on 1 Coaching— https://unpluganxiety.com/1-on-1-coaching/ —The Website— https://unpluganxiety.com
“God talks to human beings through many vectors. But nowhere with such detail, and grace and joy, as through creation. When we destroy nature, we diminish our capacity to sense the divine.” With this April 2023 tweet, RFK Jr inaugurated his presidential campaign, which has now folded into a daily ritual of Trump bootlicking. Now, Bobby is telling Tucker Carlson and the world that climate change cannot be solved through commitment to the “carbon orthodoxy.” “It's not about quantifying stuff,” he says. “That's what the devil does. But the reason we're preserving these things is because we love our children.” What does this mean? Matthew tracks the sources and implications of Kennedy's broken climate discourse—rooted in St. Francis of Assisi, appealing to gentleman farmers and homeschoolers, allergic to the scientific abstractions that give us a truly global picture, and always committed to the free market. The Psychiatry game is introduced on the individual or psychotherapy level as well as how Psychiatry is promoted for the maintenance of the status quo. The Psychiatry game reinforces social hierarchies as reality (e.g., "mentally ill" versus not). Far ahead of his time, Eric Berne, MD understood the concept of “mental health” as a game or pastime. In his words, it is "based on the thesis that if only the right procedure can be found, everything will be alright." As the patient sits on the couch, inside their heads the question is, “What am I supposed to do here?” Patients, especially novices to psychotherapy, will inevitably comply with their therapist who uses the DSM to define them in order to elaborate their self-presentations and self-understanding. The patient will talk subjectively about what it is like to be them as a solid self. This can be played using Transactional Analysis ("My Critical Parent ego state...), psychoanalysis ("Gee my Id just has a hold of my Superego," or the clinical version, "Nice use of transference!"), cognitive behavioral therapy or CBT ("Those damn negative thought loops!"), etc. The emphasis is on subjectivity, but this comes at the expense of affect and relational intimacy with the therapist. Colloquially, the patient talks about what is going on inside their head. In the US, as individuals continue to view themselves as brands (Me, Inc) and are enclosed by Big Tech's ability to commodify them and sell them things at the same time, Psychiatry becomes the engine for negating "the world." Identity as reality is instantiated in the culture. Me me me. Self-optimization to become supreme and "win." This is in contrast with the Zen notion of no-self or no-mind (i.e., emptiness). Lauren and Nicole's trip through the Batman universe takes an interesting turn with very special guest Matt Gourley (Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, Superego, I Was There Too, With Gourley and Rust, Bonanas For Bonanza) covering 1997's Batman & Robin with George Clooney. Is this really one of the “worst movies ever made”... or actually one of the all-time greats? Is the hyper-focus on Batman's nipples an expression of artistic vision or does it miss the point? Are we sure Batman and Robin are not a couple? All of these important questions (and more!) will be answered.Next week's movie: Batman Begins (2005). Follow Matt: Instagram, TwitterLike the show?
