Tread Perilously's Star Trek Month 2024 continues with the long-delayed episode of Star Trek: Voyager called "Bride of Chaotica!" Tom Paris and Ensign Harry Kim's afternoon playing chapter 18 of "The Adventures of Captain Proton" is disrupted when Voyager runs aground in a "subspace sandbar." It immediately disrupts quality of life systems on the ship and prevents the Holodeck from shutting down Paris's program. Meanwhile, transdimensional aliens materialize in the simulation and assume its 1940s movie serial nature to be real because they are energy-based life-forms. Will Paris figure out a way to communicate or will it fall on Captain Janeway to save the day by becoming the bride of Chaotica? Erik is immediately annoyed to be watching a Tom Paris episode of Voyager. Justin can't help but notice its similarity to a certain episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Episode co-writer Bryan Fuller also makes Erik doubtful it will be able to rise out of its Paris deficit. Justin argues for Garrett Wang to be the true lead in the story. Various 1940s movie serial tropes are examined. Kate Mulgrew gets top marks for understanding the assignment. Tuvok turns out to be a font of deadpan gold. Justin is dismayed by the lack of Robert Picardo and circumstances force a discussion of Neelix.
Tread Perilously's 2024 Star Trek Month continues with an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called "Justice." After a tiring mission to establish a new colony, the Enterprise finds an idyllic world full of pretty blonde people who really enjoy sex. But that permissiveness comes with a zero tolerance policy for the slightest infraction of local laws and death as the only punishment. Does it have something to do with the half-visible space station also in orbit around the planet? Will Captain Picard have to justify the Prime Directive -- or break it -- in front of a cadre of TOS style god-aliens? And will Riker get some "quality time" on the planet? Erik and Justin disagree on the Wesley question in this episode. Brenda Bakke from The Young Riders returns in far less clothing. Erik has a problem with Data emoting in certain scenes. Bob Guccione makes a surprising appearance. Justin finds three worthy Star Trek ideas in the plot, even if they get lost in Gene Roddenberry's horniness and other first season TNG problems. The pair praise Gates McFadden despite being extremely ill-served by the script. Geography Corner centers on the water treatment plant gardens used in this and several other TNG episodes. The discussion leads to Jason Todd discourse and Gerd Shockley's birthday is "celebrated."
The Filmlosophers and Ensign Amy beam back to the Multiverse where no man has gone before, as they dust off their phasers in celebration of Star Trek Month with a review of the most divisive film of the franchise, Star Trek: Nemesis. Our Crew of Red Shirts takes an opinionated view on their first movie of the month, a much-derided film that many fans blame for the death of the franchise for several years. But does this thought still hold regarding the beloved series? Or is this just another case of a fanbase overreacting to the film's outcome? Find out in this week's special episode of The Filmosphers!
The Filmlosophers and Ensign Amy say hello and goodbye to the TNG cast as we walk out the door for the last film of Star Trek Month, Star Trek: First Contact. Does a TNG era film live up to the legacy of the TOS films? Or does this movie spell the beginning of the end of the Star Trek franchise? Find out on this week's episode of The Filmlosophers!
Jeff and Mike complete Star Trek Month with the Best TNG movies. Join them in this epic time traveling adventure and the final confrontation with the Borg for the crew of the Enterprise
In our last episode of Star Trek Month, Nova and Athena are joined by special guest Aivu of Tech Believe to talk about classic TNG episode "The Measure of a Man", where Data has to defend in a hearing his right to exist and to be an independent individual with autonomy as opposed to property of the Federation. Tread Perilously continues to celebrate Star Trek Month with an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called "Angel One." When the Enterprise follows the path of an escape pod to the planet Angel One, they discover a matriarchy where men do not have the vote or a voice. Their main occupation: looking pretty for the women. But not all is idyllic on Angel One, as Counselor Troi and Commander Riker are about to find out. The Federation citizens who landed on the planet "took wives" and want to change the planet's legal system. And as they are not bound by the Prime Directive, Troi is powerless to stop them. Riker, meanwhile, gets seduced by the planet's Elected One, Mistress Beata. Will Riker's raw sexual magnetism change life on Angel One? Man Power Pills get reformulated as Erik and Justin dive into the deep end of a poorly thought metaphor. The discussion almost immediately gets derailed when Katie McGrath gets mentioned. The fashions of Angel One are critiqued. Erik once again declares his love for Christopher Pike and his fondness for Will Riker. Justin calls out some of the problems in the Angel One metaphor and the pair try to decide if Riker's seduction scene should've been a moment of harassment. The pair figure out ways to make the episode better and find a place for Brenda Strong.
Tread Perilously's annual Star Trek Month continues with the worst episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the infamous clipshow known as "Shades of Gray." When the Enterprise scouts a newly discovered planet, Commander William T. Riker gets barbed by a carnivorous plant, which pants a microbe in Riker's nervous system. Geordi and Data beam back down to the planet to investigate the creature as Riker's condition worsens. Finally in a coma, Dr. Polaski can only stave off the infection by forcing Riker to relive some of his best -- and worst -- memories of his first two years as the ship's first officer. Erik and Justice try to talk about an episode with a terminal case of senioritis. Justin introduces Red Dog, the old time Paramount stage hand. Erik suggests Dr. Polaski is Gene Roddenberry's laziest creation. Dr. McCoy's racist tendencies also get examined. The lack of standard issue hardsuits gets raised -- not that it would've helped the crew of the Prometheus. Erik recalls how much he hated Riker as a child even though he loves him now. The discussion turns into a clip show of some of Erik and Justin's favorite topics, including Riker's sexual prowess, their difficult time with anime, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and their love of Airplane II: The Sequel.

Star Trek Month concludes at the Nostalgia Theater show! This week, I celebrate fifteen years since the launch of Star Trek: Enterprise, the unfairly-ignored fifth Trek TV series, by chatting with series co-creator and executive producer Brannon Braga. This series tends to get kicked around or ignored by the diehards, but it's a personal favorite of mine nonetheless, and I've made it something of a personal mission to spread awareness of how darn good it ended up being, and hopefully this podcast will do some of the legwork there. I had a blast chatting with Brannon about his initial hopes for the show, where he thinks things went right, where they went wrong. It's a candid and engagingconversation that I think you'll enjoy listening to just as much as I enjoyed participating in it. It's Star Trek Month at Nostalgia Theater, as we celebrate fifty years of one of the greatest TV shows -- and franchises -- of all time! My special guest this episode is director Adam Nimoy, son of the legendary Leonard Nimoy -- Mr. Spock himself -- to discuss his emotional new documentary For the Love of Spock, which pays tribute to the late, great Mr. Nimoy as well as his iconic character, examining the world’s relationship with Spock and Adam’s relationship with his dad. The film features commentaries and remembrances from such Trek luminaries as William Shatner, George Takei, Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, JJ Abrams, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, and many more, and will be available on VOD starting September 9. You can catch the show via the embed below, or subscribe at iTunes, Stitcher Radio, TuneIn Radio, or Google Play (and remember to leave a review!). Star Trek Month begins! The Nerd Lunch crew kick off a four week long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. They welcome William Bruce West and postulate on the future of Star Trek. What will the new series be like? Where does Star Trek need to go in order to survive another 25 years? Great nerdy discussion!
