Come in and make yourself at home. Feel free to lie down on the couch and tell us about your mother. If not, why not check in for one last session in our season of films exploring identity. Before we move on to Liminal Spaces in season fifteen, it's time to revisit some of our favourite chats from the last eight episodes. We dived into the cinematic identity of everyone from Gotham's elite to ballet dancers losing their grip on reality. We praised the chameleonic genius of Gary Oldman and questioned Liam Neeson's facial hair. And we explored how personal character is forged through external events involving a taxi driven by a robot Robert Picardo. What to expect from this episode: Dan explains why he curated a season dedicated to the theme of identity in cinema. We remember the year the Crazy Frog infected our culture while Batman began. We debate whether Liam Neeson suits the 90s street magician look. Discussion around Gary Oldman's career and his transition from True Romance to Slow Horses. A look at why Darren Aronofsky spent a decade trying to turn a werewolf movie into a swan story. Sarah confesses her love for controversial fiction. We revisit the grotesque experience of watching Dennis Quaid devour shrimp in The Substance. Dan reiterates his one and only rule: Jared Leto is only allowed in movies if he's playing Jeffrey Tambor. We discover a little-known, deep-cut indie flick called Total Recall and its sweaty puppet Kuato. We shall return! On May 18th we're back with a brand new season. This time chosen by Sarah. The new theme is Liminal Spaces and the first film we're wrapping our heads around is Triangle (2009). Would you like to see the full lineup for season 15? The only place you can see it is on Patreon but you don't need to be a paying member. Sign up for a free membership and get access to the lineup when it drops any day now. Anthony and Laurie have a lot of news to catch up on. They start with the cancellation of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, looking at statements from Paramount as well as reactions from both the cast and the show’s fans, and have a brief debate about whether or not that factored into the decision. Robert Picardo’s recent comments about Star Trek taking “a pause” sparked a broader discussion of what might happen next with the franchise both on TV and in movies. They also take a look at a new interview with Paul Giamatti about Academy‘s Nus Braka. They chat about Project Hail Mary author Andy Weir’s comments on this era of Trek, along with his subsequent apology to Alex Kurtzman, and Tony goes through the latest on new comics and games. They recap some of the Trek Talks panels, particularly the Deep Space Nine “Trials and Tribble-ations discussion where Ira talked about nervously calling Leonard Nimoy to get his approval and the Enterprise writers panel where they talked about their pitches for season 5. Laurie gives a full Trek Talks update and then urges everyone to go check out the footage and images from the Artemis mission.

This week, Travis is joined by Dennis Robinson of Botched Podcast to talk about the 1981 werewolf movie The Howling. And be on the lookout for a young Robert Picardo along with Dee Wallace. So, is this one worth a howl at the full moon? Robert Picardo joins Connor Trinneer and Dominic Keating for a wide-ranging conversation, with particular emphasis on his latest return as The Doctor in Starfleet Academy. He now serves as Chief Medical Officer on the USS Athena, centuries older, more experienced, and still evolving in unexpected ways. Bob reflects on stepping back into the role at this stage of his career, what has changed, what hasn't, and how the character fits into a very different era of Star Trek. This conversation was recorded just one day after the announcement that Starfleet Academy will conclude with its second season, so we delve into Bob's immediate reaction to the news, including his knowledge on why the show is ending. We speak about his contributions to the show, including episode ideas that sadly will never get to air. Along the way, he and Connor and Dominic revisit The Doctor on Voyager, and how his legacy carries forward into this final chapter. Each week in The D-Con Chamber, we boldly revisit Star Trek: Enterprise through behind-the-scenes stories, watch-along commentaries, and conversations with the people whose lives were forever changed by the franchise. Whether they are breaking down classic episodes or welcoming special guests from across the Trek universe and beyond, hosts Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer mix laughs, insider perspective, and Trek appreciation in every episode.
Episode 776 of On Screen & Beyond beams up Robert Picardo of "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy", "Star Trek: Voyager", "InnerSpace", "The Wonder Years", "China Beach" and more!

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (2026) is an American television series created by Gaia Violo for the streaming service Paramount+. It is the 12th Star Trek series and part of executive producer Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek Universe. Stars: Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard portray Starfleet Academy cadets, starring alongside Holly Hunter and Zoë Steiner, as well as Tig Notaro and Oded Fehr, who are reprising their roles from Discovery, and Robert Picardo returning as the character of the Doctor from other previous Star Trek series. [Review starts at 4:09 / Interviews start at 58:03] Anthony and Laurie keep the news short this week, but do talk about a new comic series from IDW that covers the unexplored (and very dark) history of why the Klingons are refugees in the 32nd century. The rest of the podcast is dedicated to Starfleet Academy episode 5, “Series Acclimation Mil” and its loving tribute to Deep Space Nine and the Sisko family. As they discuss the episode, they play clips from various interviews with Tawny Newsome and Robert Picardo, then afterwards, the full interview Tony did with Tawny and Cirroc Lofton.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is, by most accounts, an abject failure. However, they're clinging to the first two episodes getting a bit of a bump while handwaving that the show's ratings dropped off a cliff after only three episodes. Maybe people watched it and noped out because it was awful? Then we talk about how Robert Picardo thinks he can explain why 32nd century kids talk like Gen Z kids in 2025 -- and it's not just because of bad writing.Watch the podcast episodes on YouTube and all major podcast hosts including Spotify.CLOWNFISH TV is an independent, opinionated news and commentary podcast that covers Entertainment and Tech from a consumer's point of view. The Crew continue to look at dark fantasy films this month. On this episode we discuss another Ridley Scott film that has many versions only this one is a fantasy film. Join us as we talk about which version of "Legend" from 1985 is the better version. STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY ist da – und wir steigen direkt in die 1. Episodenbesprechung ein: „Kids These Days“.

Does a sequel to a Christmas movie count as a Christmas movie? It doesn't matter! It’s pitch week! Anthony and Laurie are joined by Trev and Stanley from The Salon to talk about all the Star Trek TV pitches out there—but they start with an in-depth look at the brand-new clip from the first episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. They talk about Paul Giamatti’s insights into his SFA character, Nus Braka, and Robert Picardo’s confirmation on which version of The Doctor is in the show. They discuss the sentimental posts from Strange New Worlds actors as production heads towards its end, and the imminent departure of Prodigy and other Trek shows from Netflix across the globe. Then it’s time for the main topic: all the TV pitches out there for new Trek series from creatives who’ve already worked in the franchise. They break down each one—ideas from Tawny Newsome & Justin Simien, Terry Matalas, Mike Sussman, Akiva Goldsman & Henry Alonso Myers, Aaron Waltke, and Jennifer Muro—and assess its viability as a group. After that, each person makes their own pitch for a Star Trek show that is assessed by the others: Greenlight? Development deal? Hard pass? Listen to find out.

Edward Teague is alive as heck and he's on the pod. Legendary sci-fi actor Robert Picardo joins us to talk about his time on Smallville, how it resonates today, and what it means to share it with his family. In the episode, after an assailant carves Kryptonian symbols into Lex, everyone is on a mission to find out why.
It's that time of year where we try and delve into the strange and scary for our Halloween episode and this time, we've hit upon altered states (not the Ken Russell film) where our heroes undergo a strange transformation, in TOS ‘Wolf in the Fold,' Bones' obsession with getting Scotty laid ends in a lot of mysterious stabbings that date back to Victorian London while in Voyager's ‘Darkling,' the Doctor's attempt to improve himself by adding bits of other people into him starts making him very large in the tooth and a little too psychosexual towards Kes while in DS9's ‘Empok Nor,' O'Brien, Nog, Garak and a collection of clearly important side characters go to a deserted Cardassian Space Station to steal some wiring ends with psychotropic drug-induced violence. Typical. Happy Halloween!Episodes Discussed: A Wolf In the Fold (13:19) Darkling (42:06) Empok Nor (01:11:42)Talking Points Include: The European cut of Kubrick's ‘The Shining,' Horror Movies, We HATE Pan and Scan, Weird UK Film edits, Bones clearly wanting to get laid, my God, they do a seance, Robert Bloch and Harlan Ellison's twin Ripper stories in ‘Dangerous Visions,' censorship and no Kirk shirt rip for drugs this time, Jack the Ripper in other SF franchises, no walk of shame for Kes, Picardo's make-up leads to a lesson about old special effects, the Civilization Gandhi glitch, does Kes actually grown over her four years, CSI Tuvok, Jeremy Renner-gy, when romantic comedies have to make the rival partner an utter jerk, Robert Picardo with hair is amazing, MMMbop, Tom Waits covering Disney, ‘Cardies' does not work as a derogatory slur, what Brighton sounds like, Garak Bashir and O'Brian probably don't hang out at the same time, the original plan with Worf vs. Garak would not have been as fun, Nog trying too hard, ‘Bolian Dies First,' there's probably a meeting about Garak being a spy.

Tread Perilously's Star Trek month continues with an episode of Voyager called "Drone." When a close call in the transporter merges Seven of Nine's nano implants with the Doctor's 29th Century holotransmitter, a future Borg gestates in the silence lab. Despite the similarities to the Tuvix incident, Captain Janeway allows it to live and assigns Seven to be its teacher. But when the drone, who self-identifies as One, starts asking difficult questions about the Borg, he defies Seven and reaches out directly. Will she be able to teach him why the Borg are wrong before they assimilate his advanced technologies? Erik and Justin face a standard issue episode of Voyager that might actually be good. They debate the merits of the story, nonetheless, with Erik pointing out four or five Next Generation episodes it emulates. Jeri Ryan continues to be the show's MVP, with Robert Picardo and Tim Russ close behind her. Janeway's choice to allow One to live is examined in light of the reappraisal of "Tuvix." The presence of Bryan Fuller in the writing credits leads to a surprising twist. Harry Kim's future as an eternal ensign becomes text. The pair try to determine which cast members are still engaged in Season 5 and a minor character leads to a larger critique of Voyager as a whole.

What do “Star Trek,” space advocacy, and the fight to save NASA science have in common? In this episode of Planetary Radio, we share a special panel recorded live at STLV: Trek to Vegas 2025, featuring Robert Picardo, actor and Planetary Society board member who played the Emergency Medical Hologram on ”Star Trek: Voyager,” and Tim Russ, actor, telescope enthusiast, and Voyager’s Lt. Tuvok. They’re joined by Andrew Pauly, director of marketing at The Planetary Society, and Ambre Trujillo, the Society’s digital community manager, for a conversation about how science fiction inspires real-world space exploration — and how fans can take action to protect it. Later in the episode, Jack Kiraly, director of government relations at The Planetary Society, discusses the recent wave of NASA employee departures and what it could mean for the future of space science. Then, in What’s Up, our Chief Scientist Bruce Betts reflects on the end of NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer mission. Sowing the Seeds of Love, 18min., USA Directed by Riley Young Sowing the Seeds of Love explores the obscure and peculiar sex lives of animals through the eyes of Hulk Hogan (1980's WWE wrestler icon), Joyce DeWitt (Janet Wood from the popular 1970's sitcom Three's Company), and Robert Picardo (known for his character as the Holographic Doctor on the 1990's Star Trek: Voyager series). Their role in this film is to satire their popularity to make the subject of animal sexuality more digestible to those without a scientific background. https://www.rileyoung.com/new-page-1 Get to know the filmmaker: What was your motivation to make this film? My true motivation for making this film was to find an engaging and accessible way to communicate science to a broad audience. With a background in Marine Science, I experienced firsthand during my capstone research project how challenging it can be to make scientific concepts exciting and understandable for those without a science background. That realization led me to pursue documentary filmmaking as a way to bridge that gap—bringing science to life in a way that is fun, accurate, and captivating for viewers of all backgrounds. Two major inspirations shaped this film. The first was Jean Painlevé, a French filmmaker and pioneer of underwater cinema. His films explored the mysteries of marine life while blending science with humor, making complex topics engaging and accessible. The second was Isabella Rossellini's Green Porno series, where she playfully reenacts animal mating behaviors in surreal, theatrical settings. Her bold, unconventional approach to documentary filmmaking opened my eyes to new ways of presenting science—ways that are visually striking, thought-provoking, and deeply entertaining. Both of these influences challenged traditional documentary styles, incorporating themes of sexual identity, gender norms, and finding beauty in the unexpected—ideas that became a driving force behind my own film. Drawing from these inspirations, I wanted to create something fresh, quirky, and exciting while still staying true to scientific accuracy. That's how Sowing the Seeds of Love was born. My film follows a trio of celebrity hosts who use humor, animation, and their star power to educate audiences about unconventional animal mating science—while drawing thought-provoking parallels to societal conversations around sexual identities. My goal is to reach people who might not typically watch documentaries—because let's face it, the word "documentary" alone can turn some people away. I want to change that by proving that science can be just as entertaining as it is enlightening. But when some experimental mutagens create a bevy of mutant gremlins, they threaten to overrun the streets of New York City. Is bat gremlin the gremlin we deserve, and not the gremlin we need? What's the business model for the animal testing facility? When do we get an Aliens vs Gremlins franchise?
