Liam and Cal aboutta make a name for themselves here as they take a trip around the multiverse to visit a Cajun version of Killer Croc in a review of The Batman's season two episode entitled "Swamped." Killer Croc takes a page out of the No Man's Land/Matt Reeves' The Batman playbook in looking to turn Gotham City into his own personal flood zone, and Batman must work to stop a much more physically formidable opponent. The hosts discuss a rather straightforward plot, some fun visuals include a very different looking Croc than what the DCAU did, why Batman hates pet crocodiles, and Ron Perlman doing a Cajun accent. We've got a bit of a musical legend in the house today for the guestmix! Here's some words from the man himself Lately I've been getting back into playing a lot more vinyl-only sets after spending the last few years deep in film scoring and studio work. I will be getting back out playing more shows this year, so this mix felt like a good snapshot of where my head is at musically right now. I've also been putting a lot of energy into my label PRONTO, which has become a home for music from artists and friends like Marcellus Pittman, Osunlade, Rick Wade, Art Of Tones, Oliver Dollar and Make A Dance. I'm currently working on a new project with Osunlade called Nomadics that I'm really excited about. Outside the club world, I've had music in the new Jackass film and the latest Farrelly Brothers movie, plus I recently finished scoring a new feature starring Ron Perlman and Theo Rossi. Before all of that I spent years making music for Grand Theft Auto which was honestly one of the wildest chapters of my career. This mix is just a bunch of records I love, Chicago roots, deep house, disco, weird late-night stuff and a few curveballs. I also recently got to remix Joe Smooth's “Promised Land” for DJ International, which was a pretty surreal full-circle moment for a kid originally from Chicago. Hope you enjoy it. James @jamescurd
Superhrdinské filmy nemusí být jen Marvel nebo DC, to víme. Můžou být taky o cool pekelníkovi, který stojí na straně lidí, bojuje proti nacistům, Rasputinovi nebo bytostem schopných zničit náš svět. Guillermo del Toro a Ron Perlman natočili v roce 2004 brilantní hororovou komiksovku Hellboy o neobvyklém hrdinovi plnou chytrých nápadů, pražských lokací, parádních monster a mysteriózní atmosféry. A i po dvaceti letech je to skvělá podívaná, která vypadá stejně dobře jako tehdy. The Clayface movie trailer just dropped — and before Mike sees it, Zach is making him sit through the Batman: The Animated Series two-parter that inspired it all."Feat of Clay" is the origin story of Matt Hagan: a disfigured Hollywood actor addicted to a face cream that lets him reshape his own body, force-fed so much of it by the man who controlled his supply that he became something that could no longer be called human. It's a kids' cartoon. It goes pretty dark. This week Zach breaks down both parts of the classic BTAS two-parter, the one that created the definitive version of Clayface. One that blended Basil Karlo and Matt Hagan into a single tragic figure. Plus: the real Hollywood actors who inspired the character, why two different animation studios handled the two episodes and the talents of Ron Perlman, Ed Asner, and Ed Begley Jr. Mike's verdict: he's watching Batman: The Animated Series with his grandkids. Zach has never been more proud. Also covered this week:- Lon Chaney, Montgomery Clift, and the real tragedy behind Matt Hagan- The cream. We can't stop calling it the cream.- Poor Teddy. The Clayface film (directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan) is coming and now you'll know exactly where it's drawing from. Also dropping this week: our Clayface One Bad Day episode replay — the 2023 DC one-shot where a Hollywood actor becomes Clayface in a single very bad day. Braga, King, and Ski talk about Kid Cannabis, a movie based on a true story about a group of early 20s dudes who traffic weed across the Canadian border. Ron Perlman and John C McGinley steal the show. It sticks to the facts, but is that a good thing? Listen!
“The idea that you're gonna put Kilmer and Brando in the same movie and you expect this to go well...” - SteveThis week on WHM, Remake-ril boards a plane to fly to a mysterious destination in the South Pacific as the guys chat about one of the most notorious Hollywood disasters of the 1990s, John Frankenheimer's The Island of Dr. Moreau! Who on Earth thought it was a good idea to get Brando involved in this? Does our society really want monkey butlers? What was Kilmer smoking while filming this—no seriously, any strain info? How was this movie only PG-13 with all these horrific mon-stars? Why was mainstream pop culture kinda cool with a little light beastiality in the 1990s? And credit where credit's due, Stan Winston hit it out of the park with the monster make-up. PLUS: The return of the VHS Trailer Game! The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) stars David Thewlis, Val Kilmer, Fairuza Balk, Daniel Rigney, Temuera Morrison, Nelson de la Rosa, Mark Dacascos, Ron Perlman, Marco Hofschneider, and Marlon Brando as Dr. Moreau; directed by John Frankenheimer. This episode is sponsored in part by Rocket Money! Ice Pirates: Space Swashbuckling, Time Warps, and Robot BrothelsREBROADCASTWelcome to this episode of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast! Join hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell, along with special guests Sean Oliver and Drew Leatham of Third Productions, as they navigate the wonderfully bonkers 1984 sci-fi comedy Ice Pirates. In a galaxy where water is the most precious commodity, space pirates raid Templar ships, stumble upon a princess in a smoke chamber, and embark on a quest involving castration conveyor belts, unicorn-riding Amazons, and a climactic time warp that ages everyone decades in minutes. This movie has everything—and we mean everything. The crew dives deep into what makes Ice Pirates such a hidden gem of '80s cinema. Despite its slashed budget (down from $20 million to $8 million, forcing a rewrite as a comedy), the film delivers genuine laughs, impressive practical effects, and surprisingly likeable characters. Robert Urich charms as the roguish lead, while Anjelica Huston and Ron Perlman steal scenes as memorable supporting pirates. The group marvels at the film's commitment to its bits—from adorable space prairie dogs to baby donkeys that pay off brilliantly in the finale. They also grapple with the movie's confusing villain structure (or lack thereof), casual '80s-era problematic moments, and a sex scene set to a slideshow called "Passion Storm" that somehow involves wasting precious water during coitus. What emerges is a consensus: Ice Pirates rates around five or six robots-shitting-themselves when watched alone, but jumps to a solid eight when experienced with friends. It's the perfect midnight screening movie—campy, ambitious, and genuinely funny rather than just laughably bad. The practical effects hold up remarkably well, the comedy lands more often than not, and the time warp sequence remains an absolute highlight of creative chaos. Sean and Drew even share the wild story of their high school's stage adaptation of the film, complete with castration scenes and Mad Max sequences somehow translated to theater.Additional Highlights:The movie features pre-LED lighting with hundreds of tiny heated bulbs on the robot designs—a fire hazard waiting to happenBruce Vilanch makes a bizarre cameo on an Amazon planet, and nobody knows whyThe "redesign" process (castration and lobotomization) includes an oddly satisfying conveyor belt sequence with enthusiastic workersRobert Urich bears an uncanny resemblance to Bill Hader, leading to mental deep-faking throughout the viewingThe film ends abruptly upon finding Earth, leaving questions about legitimate trade routes versus creating the biggest water black market everThe hosts conclude that more people need to know about Ice Pirates—it's a genuinely ambitious effort that deserves cult classic status beyond obscure VHS shelves. Deep cut recommendations include Time Bandits, Flash Gordon (1980), and Nathan's web series Voyage Trekkers.Want more Most Excellent 80s Movies? Head to TruStory.fm to explore the full network. Send a textA nuked world shouldn't feel this alive. We dive headfirst into Fallout Season 2 and unpack how it turns deep-cut lore into gripping television without leaving newcomers behind. From NCR and Caesar's Legion to the fractured Brotherhood of Steel and Mr. House's clockwork vision, we trace the power plays that make New Vegas more than a backdrop—it's a living argument about who gets to decide the future. What hooked us most is the character engine driving all that spectacle. Lucy walks out of the vault with rules and runs into moral weather she can't predict. The Ghoul carries a memory of the old world and the stamina to outlast the new one, shaping the story with hard-earned patience instead of easy violence. Hank's “minimize” project reframes villainy as research, and one button press turns memory into a weapon. It's a season obsessed with identity: who you are without your past, what love looks like when trust is gone, and how choice survives after the world ends.If you've played the games, you'll feel the satisfaction: deathclaws that terrify in numbers, super sledges and power armor that hit like freight trains, a Ron Perlman-voiced super mutant, and small details like sugar bombs and chems that actually matter. But the real trick is how the show uses those pieces to move the plot, not just wink at fans. We also wrestle with big adaptation questions—why this succeeds where Halo stumbled—and map what Colorado might bring next, from cryptids to consequences.Hit play to join us in the wasteland. This week on Big Trouble and Little Podcast, the crew reviews Hellboy (2004) directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Ron Perlman as the iconic comic book hero.We break down why Hellboy still holds up today, from the practical effects and monster design to Ron Perlman's perfect performance as Hellboy. We also talk about the film's biggest weakness—the villain—and how the movie still works despite it. The discussion dives into the supporting cast including John Hurt, Doug Jones, and Jeffrey Tambor, along with del Toro's signature visual style and the dark fantasy tone that makes the movie stand out among early 2000s comic book films. After the review, the conversation goes everywhere: Hellboy sequels, Superman (1978), Disney movies, My Dinner with Andre, Fallout 4, Happy Gilmore 2, Gundam, Resident Evil, and more.If you enjoy movie reviews, comic book discussions, gaming talk, and off-the-rails podcast conversations, you're in the right place.New episodes of Big Trouble and Little Podcast every week.
This month we're ranking early “cape” comic book movies — the weird ones, the stylish ones, the ones that hit before the MCU turned everything into a cinematic factory line. First up: Constantine (2005).We talk Keanu's chain-smoking demon-deporter energy, the movie's killer casting (Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinton), why the vibes are immaculate even when the plot is… doing side quests, and why Lucifer absolutely steals the show in the final stretch.Plus: Spear of Destiny lore, Hell Bible nonsense (affectionate), the cross shotgun debate, and why this movie feels like one giant AMV with a budget.Next episode: Hellboy (2004) — Guillermo del Toro, Ron Perlman, and pure monster-movie comic book goodness.Follow Big Trouble & Little Podcast: iTunes / Spotify / YouTube — wherever you're listening right now.(And yes… we're horizontal and vertical.)
Right hand of Doom, crooked destiny and enough practical monsters to make CGI cry. This week on 3 Guys and a Flick, we kick open the door to Hellboy (2004) with full snark, zero mercy and a big red attitude. We break down Ron Perlman's iconic scowl, Selma Blair's tragic glow, del Toro's love letter to comic-book weirdness, gnarly creature effects, villian letdowns, deep-cut trivia and a spoiler-soaked brawl over fate vs. free will. Grab a cigar, pet some cats and listen responsibly—because destiny's knocking, and it doesn't care if you're ready.
But what if Ron Perlman got to perform 'Uranium Fever' instead?
Burn it Down vs the Beautiful People. We Need Cinema Now. Independent Governor Jesse Ventura Unloads. Football Friday Playoff Edition. Ron Perlman is back. The man, the myth, the legend joins Independent Americans host Paul Rieckhoff on Paul's birthday for a wild, unfiltered and deeply hopeful conversation that only these two could have, from Venezuela to Hollywood, Trump to Teamsters, the Nuremberg trials to the magic of movies. They dig into why Ron thinks “the cockroaches' days are numbered,” how authoritarianism spreads, the loss of empathy in our leadership, and why—despite the rage and the urge to burn it all down—there are still far more “beautiful people who just want to love each other and get a fair shot.” Ron also pulls back the curtain on his next great act: Asylum Studios, a radically new model for filmmaking where every single person on a project—from the director to the person cleaning the toilets—owns a piece of the movie, restoring ownership, dignity and respect to the people who actually make the art. He and Paul connect that vision to the kind of America they want for their kids, as Paul shares birthday reflections, what this tense moment in the country feels like, and why independent voices—especially independent veterans—are more important than ever. It's candid, profane, patriotic and hopeful—and guaranteed to give you fuel for the fights ahead. And they have the most fun Football Friday yet. In this all–new “quick response pod,” Paul checks in from a cold New York City and connects the chill in the air to the brutally cold reality on the ground in Ukraine after a new wave of Russian attacks on civilians and infrastructure. On his birthday, he reflects on sacrifice, leadership, and the inspiration he draws from people fighting for freedom in Ukraine, Iran, across America, and around the world—and calls on listeners to speak out, push back, and look out for each other. Paul also tees up two powerful new conversations: a fresh report from inside Kyiv with counteroffensive reporter Tim Mak on wartime innovation and technology, and the return of actor and patriot Ron Perlman—star of Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy, and more—bringing his trademark fire back to the show. He shares big news about Independent Americans cracking the top 40 on the Apple Podcasts news charts, thanks the vigilant community that helped get it there, and doubles down on why independent media, integrity, and truth-telling matter more than ever in the face of Putin, Trump, and anyone trying to shut people up or shut them down. Tread Perilously's final 2025 episode is, oddly enough, a Tread Merrily. But that also means Special Review Unit Captain Charlie Wright is joining Erik and Justin for an episode of the 1980s Beauty and the Beast called "God Bless The Child." When Catherine volunteers at a crisis hotline, she encounters a young woman who is both pregnant and on her last rope. Catherine suggests to Father and Vincent that the woman might be a good addition to the World Below. After passing Father's test, though, she becomes fixated on Vincent and makes the Yuletide both stranger and sleepier than it should be. Erik learns Charlie has seen the show before. Justin tries to piece together its premise, forgetting that Vincent and Catherine have a bond "beyond friendship or love." Erik finally gets to use his Roy Dotrice impression and attempts one of Vincent to wavering success. Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman prove to be MVPs. The trio discovers the New York district of Los Angeles. The World Below is a provocative enough concept to encourage another reboot of the program. Will "escaped circus people" be involved? Charlie proves immune to Vincent's many charms. George R. R. Martin's presence can be felt throughout. The episode's major guest character becomes a Tully as a consequence and the CBS pacing issue claims another series.
Guillermo del Toro has yet to find any boundaries when it comes to intimacy within a story or the scope of its telling. He uses genre like a stained palette, leaving residue of fusions and clear-cut influences. So it makes sense that his debut, CRONOS, is no different. Del Toro reinvents the vampire using alchemy, entomology, Gothic principles, the mixture of Medevial and Renaissance periods. But anchoring this smattering of ideas is the simplest one: the unconditional love between a grandfather and granddaughter.Jesus Gris (Federico Luppi) is a Mexican antique shop owner raising his granddaughter Aurora (Tamara Xanath). One day, they discover a golden egg-shaped device hidden in one of the shop's archangel statues. After fumbling with the device's dial, Jesus is wounded when the Cronos machine pops out sharp, insect-like legs and latches itself into his hand, Facehugger-style. What starts as mere accident lingers in Jesus' mind as he finds himself not only drawn to the device but also its method of doling out pain. The more Jesus uses the Cronos device, the more vivacious and young he feels. But this newfound rejuvenation comes with an aching appetite for flesh, for blood.CRONOS introduces many of the subjects found throughout Del Toro's 30+ year career: death, fatherhood, the clash between an archaic past and promising future, Ron Perlman. It sometimes feels as though the movie is incapable of holding all the thought that went into its world's development but that's part of what I enjoy about Del Toro. His movies are never complete after first viewing. In a way, they're the amuse bouche to the boundless mind that hides beneath, a mere foyer to a curious mansion.---Please rate and review The Movies wherever you listen to podcasts!Financially support the show using the tip jar.Follow The Movies on Instagram & Letterboxd

Ron opens up about calling out powerful figures, feuding with politicians, and why he once sullied himself before shaking Harvey Weinstein's. He talks about the genius of Bob Dylan and Marlon Brando, the magic of true artistry, and how therapy and age freed him from caring what others think. He just completed post on his horror film “Succubus,” starring Ron Perlman and Rosanna Arquette, to be released in 2024. Crossing over 500 screens in the U.S. and beginning its run in the U.K. is his feature “Hard Miles,” starring Golden Globe-winner Matthew Modine and Oscar-Nominee Sean Astin, which has won multiple awards and screened at prestigious festivals including Chicago International, Heartland Film Festival, and Cinequest. Prior to that, Daniel directed the true-story feature “Miss Virginia,” starring three-time Emmy-winner Uzo Aduba, Oscar-Nominee Aunjanue Ellis, and Vanessa Williams. The film was listed as a New York Times and USA Today Must-See Fall Movie, won the Audience Award at The Naples Film Festival, and received a limited theatrical release, cable premiere on BET, and streaming deal with Netflix. As a writer, Daniel is a winner of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, as well as the Slamdance, ScriptPipeline, and Screencraft writing awards. He also explores storytelling as an editor, with ten features under his belt, including horror film “What Lies Below,” starring Mena Suvari, which hit #1 on Netflix, and “Supercell” starring Alec Baldwin, Anne Heche, and Skeet Ulrich, which hit #1 on Hulu. Daniel hopes to continue telling cinematic, character-driven stories long past the time any sane person would have retired. Don't you love sequels? Especially when they make as much sense as Alien Resurrection, a movie that said, "oh no, Ripley burned herself to death and we have to bring her back... I dunno, clones?" The guys discuss the 4th Alien film in the franchise and talk about the one-liner filled Joss Whedon script, Ripley being super horny for aliens, the deeply disturbing ending, Ron Perlman shooting a spider and much more. Some musicians do better with chaos. Others under deadlines and with teams. Tristan Clopet is a rare pro who's done both, and because of it knows the value of working towards a greater goal with a big team (and bigger pressure).Tristan's prolific work on film and TV scores gives him a deep insight into the nature of that side of the industry (and how different it is from his touring days supporting X Ambassadors, Billy Bragg, Tove Lo, Glen Hansard, and The Weeknd). It's a collaborative, deadline-oriented, large effort, with hundreds of creatives contributing to the final work. He shares how inspiring that journey is, and how knowing the boundaries can unlock even more creativity. I loved his story about scoring to Martin Freeman's solo acting in a car. (Martin Freeman happens to be one of my favorite actors.)His credits include:Sony Pictures Television's StartUp, created by Ben Ketai and starring Martin Freeman, Ron Perlman, Adam Brody, Mira Sorvino, and Edi Gathegi. In 2020, Netflix licensed all three seasons and it quickly became the streamer's #1 acquired series around the world. The Universal Studios feature film River Wild, for which he earned an HMMA nomination. The Infiltrator, starring Bryan Cranston, City of Lies, starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker, Sundance Film Festival winner Crown Heights, starring LaKeith Stanfield, AMC's Pantheon, with Brandon Roberts, Marco Beltrami, and Buck Sanders, and CBS's military procedural The Code. For 30% off your first year of DistroKid to share your music with the world click DistroKid.com/vip/lovemusicmoreSubscribe to this pod's blog on Substack to receive deeper dives on the regular

Following the commercial disappointment of the oppressively downbeat Alien 3, it stands to reason that 1997's follow-up, Alien Resurrection, would attempt to recapture the fun, bug-hunt thrills of James Cameron's Aliens. And while French auteur director Jean-Pierre Jeunet certainly lightened the mood—credited in part to the quippy, Joss Whedon-penned script—audiences were puzzled by this strange newborn, even with series heroine Sigourney Weaver returning and a solid supporting cast featuring Winona Ryder and Ron Perlman. Join Sebastian, Chris and Steve as they clone themselves 8 times, laser some whiskey cubes and lovingly cradle this bizarre hybrid of sci fi and French comedy/satire.

Guillermo del Toro’s career started small, with the small-scale vampire (sort of) horror (sort of?) movie “Cronos,” in which an old man finds a mechanical object containing a magical bug that gives him eternal life in the bad way. Meanwhile, young Ron Perlman hates his evil uncle but continues to do his bidding! It’s a fun 1992 throwback that is still recognizeably del Toro. Today, we catch up with Ron Perlman, originally episode 262 from 2019-04-10.Original writeup below:–––––––––––––––––––––––––“…The artform is being preserved by people who are living on the fringes…”Even the post-Friday night spirits of London Town can't keep Ron down, as he joins Pip outside on a Saturday morning for a wonderful talk on all things film, be it behind the scenes, the acting process or the studio side. Ron has gems galore to offer from a very experienced vantage point in the acting game, having been doing just about the most solid job in the profession since his days in school, and you'll hear it all in very down to earth and real (occasionally wry and sly) style, from his family's drumming history, his lucky break auditioning at a young age, being scared away from the stage by the film process, glorious analogies, the lack of ‘foreplay' in modern viewing, the marvel of modern day TV in every aspect, how ‘The Shield' gave permission for so much in current TV, Sons Of Anarchy and the finding of is audience as well as navigating tricky relationship terrain in and around it, the perils of one-upmanship on set, the family ties of being in a series so long, the wonder of working with Guillermo Del Toro and how Toro fought his corner for 7 years in getting him the part of Hellboy, egoless collaboration, and - most importantly - was Ron responsible for bringing Bros back together?
