Welcome to DogWatch Cigar Radio episode 285 for July 30th, 2010. Meandering roads. Brought to you by CigarTourism.com - Now booking trips to Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Immerse yourself in the world of cigars in style and comfort. Colin Ganley will introduce you to your favorite cigar makers, show you where tobacco is grown, cigars are rolled, and we wrap up each day with tastings in the tropical air. CigarTourism.com Also brought to you by FullersPullers.com, While you're listening to the show, take a few moments to browse Fullerspullers.com for the latest in boutique brand cigars. This week Joe added the new La Reloba line of cigars from Don Pepin Garcia - a medium bodied blend available in 2 wrapper styles - Habano and Sumatra. You can always expect to find one of the widest selection of boutique brands of cigars when you visit FullersPullers.com, the preferred retailer of Dogwatch Cigar Radio. Cigar of the Week - Alec Bradley Prensado Robusto The 5x50 Alec Bradley Prensado was built around a new wrapper, the Corojo dos mil seis (Corojo 2006). The wrapper was grown in late 2006 on the farm in Trojes, Honduras and was in fermentation and aging through mid 2008. Alex Rubin started smoking and learning about the nuances of this wrapper in July 2008 and worked on this blend for over six months. Dark Side - El REY DEL MUNDO CHOIX SUPREME At 5x48 the Choix Supreme may be the perfect size for enjoying this particular blend. The brand is believed to have been created by a German, Emilio Olmstead, who registered this brand and the Sancho Panza brand in 1848. Min Ron Nee, author of "An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars," says these are only to be appreciated by those with excellent palates and after 15 years of aging. Not always very popular, it comes and goes in importance with the buying public and yet it remains an enthusiast's pick at all times. Herf Line review of Outlaw Tatuaje from Bill Featherston (ERdoc). What else have you been smokin' Dale? Tres Hermanos Toro - From the little shop in the French Quarter of NO last year....most folks who bought some in our group weren't too impressed - reported obviously young charateristics, so I held mine a year. Well worth the wait! Deep rich flavors in a full bodied smoke. Good construction, behaved well. Cinco Vegas Limitados Adrians Corona - The last of my Adrian samples from a year ago, and this was the best. Had I smoked this a year ago I might have bought some! Very smooth, nice woody tones with mild sweetness. None of the harshness or conflicting flavors of the other vitolas I tried. La Estrella Cubana Torpedo - I was not expecting much of this cigar based on Bob's experience a couple weeks ago, but was pleasently surprised. Not a great cigar, but one I'd smoke occasionally. Some coffee & nuttiness around a core of mild leather. Med bodied, some rough edges, but a decent outdoor (fishing, hiking, etc....) stick. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Gurkha Evil Toro - Gurkha is known for their full flavored cigars and this is no exception. I broke out this beauty first thing one morning and was amazed at the pairing of the dark, citrusy Brazilian wrapper, milder Dominican binder and the spicey Nicaraguan filler. This is a strong cigar but because it is well blended and well aged it sits well on the palate and is a remarkably good choice with a cup of coffee or a petey scotch such as Islay. A fine cigar that drove me back to the store for more.. Esencia Churchill - Esencia has perhaps one of the least known and most underrated cigars on the market, except by those who smoke them. Getting an Esencia in a Churchill size is like getting the Super Burrito at your favorite mexican restaurant. The flavor just keeps coming at you in wave after wave of spice, leather andstraw that, while being somewhat reminiscent of the finer Cubans, is a large step beyond in the fullness of flavor, complexity and satisfaction. Whats My Band - #919 - Montecristo Serie C. Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv.
