It's a stacked sports day at the Korner Booth Podcast! New York City came to a standstill as the Knicks celebrated their first NBA championship in 53 years with a massive ticker-tape parade. An estimated 2 million fans lined Broadway from Battery Park to City Hall, where Finals MVP Jalen Brunson was serenaded with chants, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani presented the team with the Keys to the City. The parade closed out a Finals run that saw the Knicks beat the Spurs in five games behind one of the best title-stage performances in recent memory from Brunson, capping a Finals series that averaged more than 20 million viewers, the most-watched NBA postseason since 1998. We break down the best moments from the celebration, Brunson's incredible run, and what this title means for a Knicks fanbase that's waited over half a century for this moment. Then we head to the gridiron for the 2026 UFL United Bowl, where the Louisville Kings pulled off one of the most remarkable championship runs in recent sports history. In their first-ever season as a franchise, the Kings knocked off the defending champion DC Defenders 27-20 at Audi Field, completing a perfect season sweep of DC. Running back Ian Wheeler was named United Bowl MVP after rushing for 81 yards and the go-ahead touchdown, while Louisville's defense forced a key fumble and held the Defenders to just four points in the second half. The win is even sweeter considering the Kings started the season 0-3 before rattling off a championship-or-bust turnaround. We break down how a brand-new franchise pulled off the title run in year one. We're also bringing you a Week 2 update from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, brought to you by Belly Up Sports' "Summer of Soccer." Group play has delivered drama all over North America with co-host Canada thrashing Qatar 6-0 to take control of Group B, while Switzerland bounced back from a slow start with a dominant win of their own. In Group A, Mexico sits perfect through two matches as the co-hosts push for a deep run, while South Africa and Czechia battled to a dramatic late draw. Elsewhere, the US continues group play against Australia, and Brazil looks to stay unbeaten against Haiti. We run through the standings, the biggest storylines, and which teams are trending toward the knockout rounds as the group stage heats up. And finally, breaking news out of MLB: the Home Run Derby is getting a major facelift for 2026. After a decade of using a pitch clock, MLB is scrapping the timer and going back to an outs-based, swing-driven format at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Hitters will get 20 swings in Round 1 and 15 in each of the final two rounds, with any home run on a hitter's final swing earning them another swing, meaning a hot streak can keep the round alive indefinitely. The move comes after players like Bryce Harper raised concerns about fatigue and injury risk under the old timed format. We get into what the new rules mean for this year's Derby and which sluggers stand to benefit most. #Knicks #NBAFinals #NBAChampions #JalenBrunson #CanyonOfHeroes #UFL #LouisvilleKings #UnitedBowl #DCDefenders #FIFAWorldCup2026 #WorldCup2026 #BellyUpSports #SummerOfSoccer #MLB #HomeRunDerby #Phillies #NYKnicks #SportsNews #KornerBoothPodcast

Michael Oliver: Silver’s Meteoric Rise to $500, Government Debt Crisis & Gold’s Remonetization

Stijn Schmitz welcomes Michael Oliver to the show. Michael Oliver is Momentum Structural Analysis MSA. Oliver argues that a major government bond crisis is quietly underway, driven by unsustainable debt levels in the US and other developed nations. He contends that the T-bond market is on the verge of breaking down to new price lows, an event largely ignored by mainstream financial media but one that could trigger a panic. This looming crisis, he believes, will force central banks into aggressive money printing to defend government bonds, which in turn will act as rocket fuel for gold and silver. Oliver explains that gold's long-term rise is not due to transient geopolitical uncertainty but rather the ongoing degradation of fiat currencies through relentless monetary expansion. He sees the stock market as bloated and in the process of forming a major top, similar to the dot-com and mortgage crisis peaks. When equities eventually falter, capital will flee into hard assets, propelling precious metals into a vertical, “wet bar of soap” phase where everyone scrambles to buy. Silver, which recently broke out of a 50-year price range, is poised for dramatic gains. Oliver projects a move to $300–$500 per ounce, representing hundreds of percent in returns, vastly outpacing gold. He also highlights precious metals miners as an especially attractive opportunity, noting their historically low valuations relative to gold and their potential to double rapidly once they break out on a relative performance basis. Beyond precious metals, Oliver sees a broader commodity supercycle emerging, with oil, grains, and base metals all in technical positions to advance significantly. He advises a long-term, non-leveraged approach to the commodity complex as an asset class shift unfolds. Overall, Oliver's momentum-based analysis points to an imminent, explosive revaluation of hard assets, urging investors to position themselves before the government bond crisis becomes front-page news. In this episode of Previously On, Jillian dives into Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette - Episode 5, “Battery Park.” What she called a “vibes show” last week has officially entered its drama era. From a tense Hyannis family dinner to a surprise proposal, a very public denial, and the infamous Battery Park fight, this episode cracks open the fairytale and shows the pressure building around one of the most iconic couples of the '90s. The love is still there, but so are the cameras, the expectations, and the weight of the Kennedy legacy. In honor of Jillian watching a lot of this ep covering her eyes, she counts down the Top 5 “Horror Movie” Moments of the episode that includes the Kennedy family foreign policy pop quiz, the unsettling proposal timing, and of course the infamous public fight. (Plus: Jessica Harper of Suspiria fame playing Ethel Kennedy? The horror vibes were baked in.)Jillian unpacks the proposal heard 'round the tabloids and why John's denial to the press cuts so deep, especially for Carolyn, who is already struggling with the reality of what it means to enter his world. She explores Carolyn's fear of losing herself, her hesitation about politics and public life, and her need for reassurance that she'll be protected. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Michael Oliver to the show. Michael Oliver is Momentum Structural Analysis MSA. In this detailed discussion, Oliver provides a comprehensive analysis of the current precious metals market, highlighting significant technical breakouts and potential future movements. Oliver emphasizes a critical technical shift occurring in the gold market, particularly in its performance relative to the S&P 500. He notes that gold has broken out of a long-standing trading range, signaling the beginning of a potentially multi-year bull market. This breakout suggests that gold is poised to outperform the stock market, with potential gains far beyond current expectations. The conversation takes an especially bullish turn when discussing silver. Oliver predicts an extraordinary surge in silver prices, potentially reaching $200 by the second quarter. He bases this projection on historical precedents of commodities breaking out of long-term trading ranges, such as copper and lead, which experienced rapid price appreciation after decades of stagnation. Oliver also highlights the potential for gold and silver mining stocks, arguing that they are currently undervalued and positioned for significant growth. He suggests that miners could potentially double in relative value to gold while simultaneously benefiting from rising precious metals prices. The broader commodity complex is another area of interest for Oliver. He sees a potential asset class shift favoring commodities over traditional paper markets, recommending investors consider commodity-related stocks in sectors like agriculture, oil, and base metals. 00:00:00 – Introduction00:01:05 – Gold’s Bull Market Outlook00:01:41 – Gold vs S&P Spread Breakout00:04:43 – Spread Charts Predictive Power00:08:37 – Silver’s Leadership in Bull Market00:09:55 – Silver vs Gold Ratio Breakout00:13:40 – Silver Historical Projections00:17:00 – Comparisons to Copper and Lead00:23:45 – Miners vs Gold Spread Analysis00:28:30 – Miners vs S&P Performance Shift00:31:10 – Other Commodities Investment Opportunities00:33:40 – Momentum Structural Analysis Overview00:34:45 – Concluding Thoughts Guest Links: Website: http://www.olivermsa.com/ X: https://twitter.com/Oliver_MSA Amazon Book: https://tinyurl.com/y2roa7p5 Email: mailto:michaeloliver@olivermsa.com Email MSA above, and they will send you this week’s report for free, which covers many of the topics from this interview. HEADLINE: Remembering Resilience and a WWII Hero: The Children's Tree and the Legacy of Edward Shames GUEST NAMES: John Batchelor (Host), Thaddeus McCotter of American Greatness, and Malcolm Hoenlein 200-WORD SUMMARY: The program discussed the dedication of the Children's Tree in Battery Park, a powerful symbol of resilience and hope grown from cuttings of a tree secretly nurtured by Jewish children at Terezín (Theresienstadt) concentration camp during the Holocaust. In 1943, teacher Irma Lauscher courageously smuggled the original sapling into the camp so that children could celebrate Arbor Day and maintain a connection to life and normalcy amid unimaginable circumstances. The children sacrificed their precious water rations to care for the tree, demonstrating extraordinary determination and spirit. The 15-foot tree now standing in Battery Park will be cared for by children at the Battery Park School, ensuring that this legacy of hope continues for future generations. The segment also paid tribute to the late Edward Shames, the last surviving member of the legendary Band of Brothers (Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment), who died at age 99. Shames participated in D-Day (Operation Overlord) and was among the first members of the 101st Airborne Division to enter Dachau concentration camp upon its liberation, witnessing firsthand the horrors of the Holocaust. In a remarkable footnote to history, he later acquired Hitler's private cognac from the Eagle's Nest, a personal memento from the fall of the Third Reich. 1698 JERUSALEM The segment also paid tribute to the late Edward Shames, the last surviving member of the legendary Band of Brothers (Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment), who died at age 99. In 1939, Robert Moses sprung his latest project upon the world -- the Brooklyn-Battery Bridge, connecting the tip of Manhattan to the Brooklyn waterfront, slicing through New York Harbor just to the north of Governor's Island. To build it, Moses dictated that the historic Battery Park would need to be redesigned. And its star attraction the New York Aquarium would have to be demolished. The aquarium was housed in the former military fort Castle Clinton which had seen so much of New York City's history pass through its walls under the name Castle Garden -- first as an early 19th century entertainment venue and later as the Emigrant Landing Depot, which processed millions of newly arriving immigrants. This valuable link to American history would surely have been lost if not for activists like Albert S. Bard, a revolutionary landmarking advocate who countered and disrupted Moses every step of the way.In this episode, Greg interviews another landmarking superstar -- author and civic activist Anthony C. Wood -- on the occasion of his new biography of Bard titled Servant of Beauty: Landmarks, Secret Love, and the Unimagined Life of an Unsung New York Hero.In his research,  Wood discovered a personality far more interesting than his public persona and a man with far more at stake than just his beliefs in preservation.Visit the website for more information and images of things discussed on this show. This episode was edited by Kieran Gannon.

In this podcast episode of Palisades Gold Radio, your host Tom Bodrovics welcomes back Michael Oliver from Momentum Structural Analysis. A length discussion on the outlook for silver and gold, stock market trends, and broader economic factors ensues. Oliver explains his $250 target for silver as realistic, noting historical precedents where silver outperformed gold during bull markets. He highlights the spread between silver and gold, emphasizing that silver could reach 2% of gold's price, a significant move from its current level of around 1.13%. This would translate to a substantial increase in silver prices if gold rises significantly. Oliver believes gold will lead the way up but notes silver and gold miners may outperform due to their lower valuations relative to gold. He shows charts indicating gold's strength against the S&P 500, with gold currently at about 45% of the index compared to a peak of 60%. Gold's momentum remains strong despite minor pullbacks. Oliver warns that the stock market bubble is set to burst. He expects asset managers to shift funds into gold and related assets as the market weakens. The gold miners index (XAU) is undervalued compared to gold, suggesting significant potential gains once investors begin to reallocate capital. Oliver discusses the dollar's potential decline, noting a critical momentum level that could signal a broader downtrend. A weaker dollar would likely boost commodities and gold, though he cautions against tying this directly to political factors like Trump's policies. Reflecting on his book on anarcho-capitalism, Oliver suggests a shift away from statism toward market-driven solutions. He speculates that events like the stock market crash could catalyze significant policy changes, including tax reforms or central bank abolition. In 1886, during a miles-long parade celebrating the dedication of the Statue of Liberty, office workers in lower Manhattan began heaving ticker tape out the windows, creating a magical, blizzard-like landscape. That tradition stuck. Today that particular corridor of Broadway -- connecting Battery Park to City Hall -- is known as the "Canyon of Heroes" thanks to the popularity of the ticker-tape parade. While many cities with skyscrapers host ticker-tape parades today, New York was the place they originated in the late 19th century and for a very obvious reason -- the ticker-tape itself, a byproduct of the Financial District which revolutionized the way stocks were traded.New York has regularly honored athletes, politicians, pilots, kings and queens, astronauts and generals with ticker-tape parades for over 125 years. Today, they're best known as a way to celebrate New York sports teams, the winners of the World Series, the Super Bowl or the Stanley Cup.The story of the ticker-tape parade is also a story of modern American history in capsule form, celebrating technological achievements, victories in war, cultural milestones and international unity.Greg and Tom are back in the studio to give you a rundown of New York's greatest parades. Tom welcomes Michael Oliver back from Momentum Structural Analysis to discuss the economy's past year and its potential future direction. Michael highlights that although a significant number of "soft jobs" were created, the overall growth remained relatively flat and not as robust as portrayed in the mainstream media. When analyzing the real estate market, including REITs, Michael finds that they are also facing challenges. Looking at his momentum charts, he observes clear signs of declining momentum in the S&P500, which could lead to a substantial correction. Contrary to popular belief, Michael argues that rate cuts are not bullish for the stock market, as they signal underlying concerns to investors. If the S&P500 drops below the 4500 level, further downside may be expected. In Michael's view, the Fed will likely cut rates before June to regain control over the rapidly fluctuating T-Bill markets, considering they have limited influence on the long-end of the market. Michael also discusses the relationship between gold and silver. While gold often lags behind, it can experience rapid increases in value, which silver tends to follow. Currently, silver is underperforming in comparison to gold, but Michael believes it may enter a new trading range and eventually outperform gold based on historical behavior. In addition to economic factors, Michael emphasizes that the market is not adequately pricing in the uncertainties surrounding the 2024 election. A tumultuous period with little compromise from either side is expected, potentially leading to increased political polarization and a higher likelihood of violence from both ends. Michael even suggests that the possibility of states seceding is on the rise. With these factors in mind, he anticipates that a significant event will likely occur before the elections. May One Allow a Non-Jewish Contractor to Build on Shabbat?

Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 19, 2023

If a Jew hires a non-Jewish contractor to build him a house, may the Jew allow the contractor and his laborers to work on Shabbat, or must he instruct them not to perform any building on Shabbat? The Shulhan Aruch addresses this question in Orah Haim (244; listen to audio recording for precise citation), where he rules that one may allow a contractor to build on Shabbat only outside the town. Strictly speaking, when a Jew contracts a gentile to complete a certain project for a set price, it is permissible for the gentile to perform the work on Shabbat. Since the Jew did not hire him to work specifically on Shabbat, but rather the gentile chose independently to work on Shabbat, no prohibition is entailed. Nevertheless, the Shulhan Aruch forbids allowing the gentile to work on Shabbat in this case within the "Tehum" (the area around a city within which one may walk on Shabbat) of one's city, in order to avoid suspicion. Onlookers may be unaware that the gentile receives a fixed amount, and might assume that he was hired on a daily wage. They might then wrongly suspect the Jewish client of violating the Shabbat laws by hiring a gentile day-worker to perform labor for him on Shabbat. At first glance, then, it would appear that one may not allow a gentile contractor and his workers to do construction work on his home within the town. The question, however, arises as to whether this Halacha applies nowadays, when virtually all construction is performed on the basis of a fixed price, rather than a daily wage. Moreover, contractors generally place visible signs at construction sites to inform onlookers of their name and contact information, such that everybody immediately realizes that a contractor has been hired for the project. Seemingly, then, under modern-day circumstances, we need not be concerned that onlookers might suspect the Jewish patron of hiring day-workers to build his house on Shabbat. Rav Moshe Feinstein (Russia-United States, 1895-1986), in his work Iggerot Moshe (Orah Haim 4:52), rules that technically speaking, it is indeed permissible to allow a contractor to build on Shabbat nowadays even within one's town, for the reason discussed above. Nevertheless, he adds, given the unfortunate laxity with regard to Shabbat observance that is so prevalent in our generation, one should act stringently in this regard. As many Jews are in any event insufficiently committed to Shabbat observance, allowing people to have gentile contractors build on Shabbat might very well lead to graver infringements upon the laws of Shabbat. Most people will not recognize the Halachic distinction between contractors and day-workers, and they might therefore wrongly conclude that it is permissible to hire gentile workers on Shabbat under all circumstances. (We might also add that if other Jews live adjacent to the construction site, the noise of the machinery and trucks will likely interfere with their enjoyment of Shabbat.) Rav Moshe therefore rules that one should not allow a gentile contractor to build on Shabbat, unless there is some pressing need to do so, in which case one should consult with a Rabbi for guidance. Rav Shemuel Pinhasi (contemporary scholar in Israel) reaches a similar conclusion in his work Ve'daber Davar (listen to audio recording for precise citation). He adds that even if the Jew wrote in the contract that he does not require the contractor to work on Shabbat, he may not allow the building to continue on Shabbat. Rav Pinhasi writes that outside the city there is room to allow the construction to be performed on Shabbat. Some years ago the Reichman family embarked on a multi-billion dollar building project in Battery Park in Manhattan, which received a good deal of attention and notoriety, and they instructed the contractors to refrain from building on Shabbat. This created a great Kiddush Hashem (sanctification of God's Name) as it impressed upon people the importance of Shabbat observance, and this serves as an inspiring example for us to follow. Summary: One should not allow a gentile contractor and his workers to build on Shabbat; in situations of dire necessity, one should consult a Rabbi for guidance, as under some circumstances there may be room for leniency in this regard.

Interview with Bill Million of The Feelies Formed in Haledon NJ in the 1970's, The Feelies have now released six albums including their critically acclaimed and influential debut Crazy Rhythms, which was voted 49 in the top 100 albums of the 1980s by Rolling Stone magazine and chosen by Spin Magazine as #49 of the best alternative records of all time. Their music has left an indelible mark on the landscape of rock and roll. Supporting the release of their first four albums the band appeared on the The Late Show With David Letterman and in concerts with The Patti Smith Group, R.E.M., and Bob Dylan as well as touring with Lou Reed. In 2008, the Feelies ended a 17-year sabbatical as a group to open for long-time admirers Sonic Youth at Battery Park and then resurrected their tradition of playing low key gigs at strategic intervals throughout the year rather than doing lengthy tours. In 2009, they were invited by R.E.M. to perform at Carnegie Hall in “The Music of REM” charity concert benefitting music education programs for underprivileged youth, then by the artist Dan Graham to play an acoustic set at the opening of his first American retrospective, held at the Whitney Museum: Dan Graham: Beyond at the Whitney Museum of American Art. That same year Bar/None re-issued Crazy Rhythms and The Good Earth, this being the first band-sanctioned CD release of the former. In 2011, they released a new studio album Here Before of which England's The Wire enthused, “Here Before picks up as though they'd never left. The second line- up is fully present, and the basics of their sound have filtered through so many younger bands (from Yo La Tengo to SF Seals to The Chills) that the music possesses a great kind of faux- familiarity. ‘Time Is Right' sounds something like The Terminals doing a Stooges tribute tune. It - and some of the Velvets riff - lifts that occur during the album's later moments- make me remember how nuts this group seemed 30-plus years ago.” In honor of their 40th Anniversary Bar/None Records re-released their third and fourth albums,Only Life and Time for a Witness in early 2015. Tom welcomes Michael Oliver back from Momentum Structural Analysis, explaining how they use momentum trends to look at the long-term picture of market sectors. Momentum can show something breaking before the price trend appears. He believes the Nasdaq is in a counter-trend rally which could work for a few months, but much of its performance is limited to a few over-weighted stocks. It wouldn't take much to initiate a new decline. Michael discusses a point and figure chart designed to take out erratic price action with gold. He expects there to be a point where moves in gold and silver are so dynamic that big swings won't matter. He then talks about the dollar and their past predictions based on momentum. In recent months the dollar has been moving sideways for several months and he expects a mini collapse when it reaches the 101 level. He argues that the world doesn't need a "global reserve currency" in this modern age with communications and near instant computer systems. Michael believes commodities, including oil and agriculture, are now largely undervalued again. He notes that energy may be lagging in the coming commodity move and uranium has been in a pause and hasn't experienced a pullback, which may be indicative of the world in a new transition to that energy source. He adds that miners are often weak before the real breakout and, once reality sets in, they snap to the upside and outperform gold in relative performance. Finally, Michael warns of the uncertainty with the coming elections, which doesn't appear to be priced into today's markets. He outlines a scenario that could play out if Trump were to start his own political party, noting that something is going to change fundamentally this election cycle in the United States. Ray Victor is a lifelong New Yorker and tour guide from Queens. He remembers 11th of September 2001 vividly, when hijacked planes were flown into the World Trade Centre towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and a site in Pennsylvania. Thousands were killed and injured. Ray remembers the missing posters, the hole that was left in the heart of the city, the destruction but also the humanity and the way his city came together. In this episode, Dan visits Ground Zero with Ray as he shares personal stories and lesser-known facts about what happened that day and in the aftermath. They stop by the church where the NYFD coordinated their rescue, the bank where a little-known water rescue took place from Battery Park in which over half a million people were evacuated from the chaos by a flotilla of civilian vessels that rushed to their aid, a rescue bigger than Dunkirk. They finish at the reflection pools where the towers once stood and reflect on how this great city weathered the worst terror attack in history.Ray offers a 9/11 History tour from ExperienceFirst.
