It's back to school time! This week we'll be telling you about cases of major teacher misconduct. These are the adults that are meant to mold the minds of our youth, teach them how to go out and be productive adults. But sometimes, a pervert sneaks into the mix and takes advantage of kids who are just looking for someone to show them a little comfort. Pam: Elizabeth Thomas started her 9th grade year looking for an adult mentor. Her science teacher, Tad Cummins, saw this as his chance to swoop in and groom the vulnerable 15 year old. When the two went missing, it wasn't until after 38 days of a nationwide search that they were found on the other side of the country. Be prepared to tear up a little when I read you Elizabeth's empowering victim impact statement... this is one strong teenager and one crappy, perverted teacher. Ronda: 25 year old Alexandria Vera was an 8th grade teacher who begrudgingly agreed to teach summer school. Little did she know that this would be where she met the love of her life- 13 year old "Justin" who was hot for teacher. The pair was head over heels for each other and when it comes to love, nothing is off limits... but then why did Vera introduce the much younger Justin as her brother? We're supposed to be able to trust certain people in our lives. Our parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and other people in our family, of course. But if you asked a child about a trusted adult in their lives most of them would mention a teacher. Teachers play such an important role in our lives because of all that they teach us, not just on an academic level, but a social-emotional level as well. Many teachers want the best for their students, but, unfortunately, some teachers are predators, and they may see their students as prey. 50 year old teacher, Tad Cummins, saw his new high school student, 15 year old Elizabeth Thomas, as prey.Listen to hear more.Sources:https://people.com/crime/missing-elizabeth-thomas-found-disappearance-discovery-and-teacher-arrest/?slide=5668619#5668619https://abcnews.go.com/US/missing-tenn-student-elizabeth-thomas-found-teacher-tad/story?id=46913129https://www.crimeonline.com/2018/09/22/he-is-the-devil-elizabeth-thomas-explains-what-happened-while-on-the-road-38-days-with-teacher-kidnapper-tad-cummins/https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tennessee-teacher-suspected-kidnapping-elizabeth-thomas-arrested-teen-safe-n748956https://heavy.com/news/2018/09/tad-cummins-elizabeth-thomas/https://people.com/crime/elizabeth-thomas-says-abduction-sex-abuse-devastating-permanent-impact/https://people.com/crime/elizabeth-thomas-tad-cummins-abductor-sentenced-prison/https://people.com/crime/tipster-griffin-barry-interview-missing-elizabeth-thomas-tad-cummins/https://www.insideedition.com/unspeakable-elizabeth-thomas-takes-kidnapper-court-powerful-statement-50045https://www.wkrn.com/top-news/elizabeth-thomas-weds-longtime-friend-in-secret-ceremony/

Stephenie Woods was beyond exhausted. She’d just had a c-section a week earlier, when she gave birth to her daughter, Abby. So Stephanie laid down on her couch for a nap. Abby was asleep in her crib, and Stephanie’s one-year-old son, Conner, was in his playpen. Stephenie woke to a stranger at her door. The woman was Shannon Torrez. She told Stephenie that her car had broken down. Could she use her phone? Could she use her bathroom? Stephenie was groggy and taken off guard. Bewildered, she agreed to help the woman. But Shannon wasn’t there for Stephenie’s phone. She was there for her baby. Then Kristin tells us about Elizabeth Thomas. In the fall of 2016, 15-year-old Elizabeth was at a particularly vulnerable time in her life. She and her siblings had been homeschooled their whole lives by an abusive mother. The kids eventually made the brave decision to call Child Protective Services on their mother, and she was removed from the home. This meant that at 15, Elizabeth would enter public school for the first time. It was a rocky transition, but her health teacher, Tad Cummins made it better. He took a special interest in her. He cared for her. At least, it seemed that way at first. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. This week on Doll Heads, Kierra tells the story of Chuck Morgan (who sounds a lot like a Breaking Bad character), and Shel takes listeners on the twisted journey of Tad Cummins and Elizabeth Thomas. *Warning: We fast forward through a long boring Bible verse on purpose, but here's what it said if you're curious* Ecclesiastes 12 New International Version (NIV) Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain;3 when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim;4 when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades;when people rise up at the sound of birds, but all their songs grow faint;5 when people are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets;when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags itself along and desire no longer is stirred. Then people go to their eternal home and mourners go about the streets. 6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed, and the golden bowl is broken;before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the wheel broken at the well,7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. 8 “Meaningless! Ex-Tennessee teacher Tad Cummins pled not guilty to federal charges relating to his 7-week-long cross-country trip with a 15-year-old teacher. His defense is that Elizabeth Thomas ran away with him voluntarily. Members of a California commune rejected Tad Cummins for membership and instead alerted police they suspected he was the Tennessee teacher wanted for kidnapping a 15-year-old student. KDRV-TV reporter Mike Duffy joins Nancy Grace and Alan Duke in this episode to discuss details of how Cummins tried to hide in a remote community but was caught when neighbors became suspicious. We also learn victim Elizabeth suffered severe emotional trauma but is home with family.
Fugitive Tennessee teacher Tad Cummins was nabbed in Northern California and 15-year-old student Elizabeth Thomas was rescued from his clutches. Nancy Grace and Alan Duke talk to the 15-year-old’s family lawyers about the great news and with psychologist Caryn Stark about what the ordeal means for the child. You’ll also hear the full news conference detailing how it ended in this episode.
Elizabeth Thomas’ father is asking a court to force witnesses to disclose everything they know about how Tad Cummins plotted to make the high school freshman his wife. Cummins, 50, is one of Tennessee’s most wanted fugitives after allegedly running away with his young student. This episode looks at revelations from a new court filing by her family.
Fugitive teacher Tad Cummins and kidnapped student Elizabeth Thomas shopped for food at a Oklahoma City Walmart two days after they disappeared from Columbia, Tennessee, according to newly-revealed security camera images. Nancy Grace and Alan Duke discuss with Jason Whatley, the lawyer for Elizabeth’s family, what the photos tell us about where Cummins may have taken the 15-year-old girl.

There is a nationwide lookout for Tad Cummins, 50, wanted for aggravated kidnapping of Elizabeth Thomas. Nancy Grace interviews attorney Jason Whatley in this episode.
A prosecutor offers new clues suggesting Elizabeth Thomas did not leave voluntarily with former teacher Tad Cummins. The 15-year-old told her sister “if I’m not back by six o’clock tonight, call the police or come looking for me,” District Attorney Brent Cooper tells Nancy Grace. “My biggest fear is that she had changed her mind about going with Mr. Cummins and that she expressed that to him and he took her then forcefully,” he tells Nancy in this episode.
While Elizabeth Thomas’ father complains he was never told a teacher was romantically involved with his daughter, it’s revealed Tad Cummins’ wife works for a high-ranking school official. Police fear the teacher and the 15-year-old girl may be hiding far away from their Tennessee hometown. They reveal Cummins had search the web for info on marrying a teen. Nancy Grace and Alan Duke look at the latest in this episode.
The male teacher who is on the run with a 10th grade girl could be “far away” from their Tennessee town hometown, according to investigators.
