SummaryIn this episode of Chatting with Channing, alumna and Royal Navy Lieutenant Commander Anna Plant shares her remarkable journey from Channing School to her current role in the armed forces. She discusses key moments from her school days, the winding path to her career in the Navy, leadership lessons, life at sea, and reflections on identity, resilience, and purpose. Anna also offers advice to her younger self and touches on themes of emotional awareness, gender, and personal fulfilment in service.Takeaways• Anna Plant attended Channing School from 1997 to 2004.• Her favourite subjects were history, politics, chemistry, and PE — except Latin!• A history teacher, Miss Pate, had a profound influence on her academic and personal development.• Channing traditions like skipping out, the school song, and poetry competitions were memorable.• Anna's journey to the Royal Navy included studying chemistry, working in various jobs, and volunteering as a special constable.• Leadership skills were developed early through university projects and later strengthened through Naval service.• She's most proud of moments where her leadership and judgment positively influenced her teams and outcomes.• Life in the Navy is often misunderstood; much of the work happens on land and includes intense planning.• Anna reflects on the challenges of being one of the few women in male-dominated environments, and how it shaped her identity and visibility.• Living aboard ships impacted her lifestyle and reduced her connection to trends like streaming services.• Receiving mail or care parcels during deployment can be deeply meaningful.• The most fulfilling part of her work is seeing tangible impact and serving alongside purpose-driven people.• Channing helped her appreciate teamwork, self-worth, and the unique talents each individual brings.• Her advice to her younger self: “You don't know what others are going through — be kind, and don't worry if you don't have it all figured out.”Channing School Online: Facebook: www.facebook.com/channingschool LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/channing-school Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/channing_school/

We explored the role of aesthetics in marginalized communities, and how the grotesque can challenge our perceptions. Our dialogue also touched on the impact of digital media on art, the importance of media representation, and the role of community-based art as both resistance and a celebration of resilience and solidarity.

In this episode of ADHD reWired, I'm pulling back the curtain on two intertwined journeys: my own path toward sustainability and the incredible growth story of Jessica, an alumna of our ADHD Coaching and Accountability Groups. As I've navigated my own challenges with burnout and the pressures of juggling too much, I've made a commitment this year to focus on what matters most. My word for the year—sustainability—has reshaped how I approach my work, my energy, and even this podcast. Jessica's story adds another layer of depth to this episode. After feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and disconnected while pursuing her PhD, Jessica joined our fall coaching group. Through her deeply personal and reflective audio journal, she shares how the program helped her build sustainable systems, reconnect with her goals, and find the motivation to tackle her work and her life with renewed energy. From discovering the power of accountability teams to replacing old habits with more supportive ones, Jessica's transformation offers hope and inspiration for anyone seeking to live more intentionally with ADHD. This season, we've made changes to our coaching program to better support ADHDers like you. Now 8 weeks instead of 10, the program is more focused and accessible. We've also introduced on-demand access to our yearly planning sessions, allowing you to go at your own pace. These adjustments reflect the principle that less is truly more when it comes to creating meaningful and lasting growth. The final registration events for our Winter Coaching and Accountability Groups are Wednesday and Thursday of this week, so now is the time to take the next step. If you're ready to stop juggling fireballs and start building a more sustainable, ADHD-friendly life, visit to pre-register today. Tune in to hear Jessica's story, learn more about what makes our coaching groups so transformative, and find inspiration to start your own growth journey. Together, let's challenge internalized ableism and reimagine what it means to thrive with ADHD.

In this episode, Dr. T hosts an interview between author Rita Bozi and guest interviewer Matt Russell, as Truth Fairy is unfortunately absent. Rita Bozi is a highly experienced trauma-informed facilitator, psychedelic therapist, author, and director of Brilliant Healing, In. Matt Russell is a private practice psychotherapist and scholar with a background in Spanish Literature and intergenerational trauma studies. Matt interviews Rita about her novel “When I Was Better” which is based on her parents' experiences during and after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, blending personal and historical narratives to explore themes of trauma, survival, and healing.Rita shares her journey in writing the novel, describing it as a complex and healing process that took nine years and ten drafts to complete. Initially, she was loyal to the real-life events of her family's history, struggling to fictionalize the story, but eventually embraced creative freedom which allowed her to deepen her characters and more fully explore their experiences. The process also involved confronting and processing her own anger and trauma, facilitated by psychedelic therapies with ayahuasca and ketamine. Through these experiences, Rita was able to soften her portrayal of her parents, bringing a more nuanced and empathetic view to their characters in her novel.Matt, Rita, and Dr. T delve into the significance of the Hungarian Revolution and Rita explains the profound impact of these events on her family and her need to understand and portray this historical and emotional landscape accurately. The interview touches on broader themes of intergenerational trauma and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of oppression, highlighting the importance of kindness and empathy in healing. Through the novel, Rita aims to honor her parents' struggles while exploring the broader human capacity for both cruelty and compassion.“But it wasn't until I sat with ketamine that I felt into my essential nature and that my essential nature was kindness. And from there I started to build a practice around kindness and I started to decolonize. I started to understand what does it mean to decolonize this brutality, so that then I could, instead of commanding people or … demanding change and demanding that people heal or demand that people behave a certain way, I started to understand more deeply that we behave the way we do because of what's happened to us. In understanding that and understanding, you know, what really happened to my parents, what really happened to my brother, what really happened to my ancestors, and embodying that… then I could start developing a sense of kindness, you know?” - Rita Bozi__About Rita Bozi:Raised by Hungarian refugees, Rita is a Somatic Relational trauma and psychedelic-informed Facilitator, a multidisciplinary creator, playwright, and retired professional actor and dancer. Justice Patricia M. DiMango serves as one of three judges on Amazon Freevee's Tribunal Justice, created by Judge Judy Sheindlin. Most recently, Justice DiMango was a judge on the Emmy-nominated series, "Hot Bench." Justice DiMango was first appointed to serve as a Judge of the Criminal Courts for the City of New York by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. She became the first Italian-American woman ever appointed to that position. Thereafter, she was elected to the New York State Supreme Court bench in the 2nd and 11th Judicial Districts, and again was the first Italian-American woman elected to that position. She was also recognized for handling large volumes of serious felony cases from their arraignment through trial. Justice DiMango became further known for her efficiency in closing a vast number of cases in a fair and timely fashion. Her judicial acumens came to the attention of the Chief Judge of the State of New York and selected her to spearhead his initiative to reduce the backlog of felony matters in the Bronx. During her tenure there, she was given the extra responsibility of being cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. She later worked as a law clerk in both Kings and Queens Counties to Supreme Court Justices Steven Fisher, Reinaldo Rivera and Luigi Marano. Carlene Thissen is an American singer-songwriter, born and raised in New Jersey, and now living in Florida. Singing, piano, and guitar playing were taught to her by her dear father, mother, and cousin; but she's also daughter of a generation with a deep desire to hand down peace and love to the "youngers": the Baby Boomers.  She experienced firsthand some of the most captivating periods and moments in the realm of popular music, like Woodstock '69, when her path crossed with wonderful people to experience not only the music, awakening one morning at Woodstock to Joan Baez's voice, but the air of freedom and peace, and the feeling of having no fear of anything. She ended up never meeting those people again, but their spirits and souls never left her side.  After that experience, she turned into a working person and created a successful business. She stopped making music for 40 years, but deeply remembered the air of Woodstock.  That changed when she got involved as a volunteer in the Immokalee Unincorporated Agricultural Community. From that catalyst event, she ended up working at the University of Florida's research center, which inspired her to get a Master's Degree in Latin American History, write a book based on her final thesis called “Immokalee's Fields of Hope,” (based on the moving stories she gleaned from the Immokalee people she got to know), make a documentary based on the book, which needed music she decided to write and perform, even if she didn't know if she could. But she did.  From then on, she could not stop writing songs to tell stories of people who are often overlooked, like farm workers, the homeless, and children who lose parents, and songs to inspire everyone to Go Change the World. She doesn't want to leave with music sitting out there that could benefit people.  Carlene's journey is not just about music, but also about the generational value music can bring, the stories that have brought her making music with roots in the first edition of Woodstock, and the work as a volunteer with immigrant communities, which also led her to advocate for compassionate immigration policy, and writing books on the stories she came across.  In this episode, Carlene shared a bit of an a capella version of her beautiful new song, "Carry It On." Carlene honors the "God winks" in her life that brought her to the fulfilling life she enjoys today. While she lives in Naples, Florida now, she soon will move to be near Woodstock, where the energy she experienced caused her musical journey to take flight. She will continue to perform locally in both places, much to the delight of audiences who say her voice is reminiscent of her idol, Joan Baez!
