In October 1997, a chilling crime unfolded in Canberra, Australia. Anu Singh, a law student at the Australian National University, drugged her boyfriend Joe Cinque's coffee with Rohypnol at a dinner party. Over the next 36 hours, she injected him with heroin multiple times. Despite his deteriorating condition, she delayed seeking help, and when paramedics arrived, it was too late. Following this case the law changed in the Australian capital territory ending the option of homicide trials being heard by a judge only. In 2000, 21-year-old college student and exotic dancer Rachel Siani was found dead beneath a highway bridge in New Jersey. Initially suspected to be a suicide, the investigation soon revealed foul play. Surveillance footage and forensic evidence linked her death to John “Jack” Denofa, a married man who had become obsessed with her. In November 1998, 25-year-old Corey Parker was living her dream in Jacksonville Beach, Florida — taking college classes, working as a waitress, and embracing her independence. But just days after a night out with friends, Corey was found brutally murdered in her apartment — stabbed dozens of times, her killer leaving behind a blood-soaked crime scene and no immediate suspects. With no forced entry and few clues, the case went cold for nearly two years — until a tip from a casual lakeside conversation led police to Robert Denny, a quiet teenager who had lived in the apartment next door. He had been watching Corey. Fantasizing. Planning. He was just 17 when he crawled through her window and carried out one of the most disturbing crimes the city had ever seen.Sources: In Ice Cold Blood: Season 2, Epi 1: Peeping PervDateline: Rear Window https://www.jacksonville.com/story/news/crime/2013/03/16/jacksonville-beach-murder-is-subject-of-documentary/11509407007/https://www.news4jax.com/news/2018/07/16/man-sentenced-to-life-in-ragtime-waitresss-murder-hopes-for-new-trial/Send us a textEmail Residue: residuepodcast@gmail.comFind RESIDUE online:Instagram: @residuepodcastTik Tok: @residuepodcast Facebook: Residue:A True Crime Podcast Credits: RESIDUE is Hosted/Produced/Researched/Edited by Chrissy Champagne THEME SONG: "Dance Of Death" by Purple Planet Music collection written and performed by Chris Martyn and Geoff Harvey. Buffalo, Minnesota was a small town where everyone knew everyone's name, and that familiarity brought with it the kind of judgmental culture that could crush anyone who didn't fit the mold. At the top of the social pyramid sat the Preppies—the popular girls who ruled the school with their designer clothes, flawless skin, and new cars that appeared the day they turned sixteen. They had the power to make or break someone's high school experience, and for the longest time, Cheyenne Clough found herself under their scrutinizing gaze.Cheyenne wasn't a part of the popular crowd, nor was she an outcast. She floated somewhere in between, a girl who could get along with everyone but didn't need to be the center of attention. At just fifteen, Cheyenne discovered she was pregnant. At odds with her mother over how to raise the child, Cheyenne made the bold decision to move out. She found a small apartment in Maple Lake, determined to build a life for herself. Her new living situation came with its own set of complications, but at least she had a support system. Her roommates were Callie Anderson, a 19-year-old with a warrant out for arrest, and Natasha Brandenburger, a 33-year-old nurse and tattoo artist. Cheyenne felt like she had found a new family. The three women—along with their boyfriends—shared the apartment, and for the first time in a long time, Cheyenne felt safe. She felt supported. She finally belonged. But as time went on, cracks began to form in this new family dynamic.Sources: https://www.investigationdiscovery.com/video/mean-girl-murders-investigation-discovery-atve-us/minnesota-vicioushttps://maplelakemessenger.com/2018/06/benson-jensen-get-40-years-for-2016-murder-of-cheyenne-clough/https://www.annandaleadvocate.com/news/5927/four-charged-in-clough-murderhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krx2qlJe-hUSend us a textEmail Residue: residuepodcast@gmail.comFind RESIDUE online:Instagram: @residuepodcastTik Tok: @residuepodcast Facebook: Residue:A True Crime Podcast Credits: RESIDUE is Hosted/Produced/Researched/Edited by Chrissy Champagne THEME SONG: "Dance Of Death" by Purple Planet Music collection written and performed by Chris Martyn and Geoff Harvey. PART TWO In 1993, Jennifer Ertman (14) and Elizabeth Pena (16), were rushing home trying to meet curfew. What should have been an ordinary evening for the teens quickly took a devastating turn when they encountered a group of drunk teenage boys who called themselves the “Black and White” gang. The story of Jennifer and Elizabeth became a symbol of the need for greater awareness and action against gang activity. During the subsequent trial, victim impact statements were introduced for the first time in the state of Texas, allowing the families of Jennifer and Elizabeth to directly address the court and express the emotional toll the crime had taken on their lives. These statements gave a powerful, personal voice to the victims' families, highlighting the profound loss and the lasting impact of violence on loved ones. The case not only led to convictions but also marked a turning point in how the justice system handled the voices of victims' families, offering a way for them to seek closure and ensure their pain was acknowledged. This case will leave you wondering: How can such evil even exist in the world? April Gregory's disappearance became one of the most haunting stories to unfold in Syracuse, New York, during the spring of 1996. On a cool night in May, April Gregory, a promising young woman from a close-knit family, vanished without a trace. She was last seen by her brother around 11 P.M. when he dropped her off at her dormitory at Syracuse University. She had just finished unpacking the two suitcases of clothes she would need for her summer session, but by 5 A.M. the next morning—when she was supposed to start her shift at a nearby McDonald's—April was gone. What began as a missing person case soon took a devastating turn. Authorities uncovered that April's fate was far more tragic than anyone could have anticipated. The case of Carol Ryan, an unsolved murder in Upstate New York, remains a chilling and perplexing mystery. In 1996, Carol Ryan, a 42-year-old woman from Eastwood, New York, was discovered unconscious after suffering severe injuries from a firework explosion. Authorities believe she may have been intentionally targeted, as the device used was a commercial-grade firework, which suggests a deliberate and brutal attack. The investigation has yielded few leads, and despite efforts from law enforcement and the public, no one has been arrested or charged in connection with her death. Carol Ryan's case stands as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in seemingly ordinary places. They had both been stabbed in their apartment. 21-year-old Johnia Berry was found at the bottom of the stairs in her apartment building. She fought hard, but did not survive. Was this a crime of passion? Was this murder caused by a jealous friend? A jealous fiancée? Was this a home invasion? Johnia's family, along with a team of dedicated detectives, would fight for nearly 3 years to find out who stole Johnia's life.
