How the Sexual Revolution Ravaged Our Culture with Nathanael Blake

The Narrative

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 27, 2025 51:51

Sexual liberation promised freedom, but it delivered heartbreak. In this week's episode of The Narrative, we're joined by Nathanael Blake, author of Victims of the Revolution: How Sexual Liberation Hurts Us All, to candidly talk about the consequences of a culture that has abandoned God's intended design for sex, marriage, and family. CCV President Aaron Baer and Policy Director David Mahan sit down with Nathanael to walk through the damage left in the wake of the sexual revolution—how women, children, and even men have suffered under the lie that we can separate sex from commitment, family, and faithfulness. Before their conversation with Nathanael, Aaron and David break down the latest Franklin County court ruling, which claims EDChoice in Ohio is unconstitutional. They also share an update on the state budget and what's ahead for Ohio, pending Governor DeWine's signature. More about Nathanael Blake Nathanael Blake, Ph.D., is a Life and Family Initiative Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. His research interests include American political theory, Christian political thought, and the intersection of natural law and philosophical hermeneutics. His published scholarship has included work on Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Alasdair MacIntyre, Russell Kirk, and J.R.R. Tolkien. He received an undergraduate degree in microbiology with a chemistry minor from Oregon State University. After working as a writer and editor in the pro-life movement, he enrolled in graduate studies at the Catholic University of America, earning a doctorate in political theory. As a cultural commentator, Dr. Blake has published hundreds of articles at outlets including Public Discourse, World Opinions, The Federalist, The Catholic World Report, and National Review. His first book, Victims of the Revolution: How Sexual Liberation Hurts Us All was published in the Spring of 2025. He lives in Virginia with his wife and children.

Almost 200,000 Franklin County residents experience poverty every year. That's enough to fill the Ohio State University football stadium twice. These residents face myriad challenges, among them: medical debt, lack of access to healthcare, adequate and affordable housing, and affordable childcare. Danielle Sidner, CEO of Rise Together Innovation Institute, explains that RISE is on a mission to harness the collective power of people and systems to overcome structural racism in Franklin County that contribute to poverty. RISE was created by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and business and community stakeholders and seeks to achieve equity for everyone. Danielle talks with us about the challenges low-income residents face, but let's look at just one issue here: medical debt. Low-income residents are ham-strung by medical debt they can't afford to pay, and for fear of incurring more, they don't see a doctor when they need to, which means they end up having worse health outcomes. And, of course, not seeing a doctor can mean an illness, which means time away from work and the loss of employment. During the pandemic, we saw many organizations coming together and looking at innovative ways to relieve some of this debt. Locally, the Ohio Hospital Association in collaboration with the City of Columbus and some others, helped pay the medical debt of low-income residents and then forgave the debt. Based on a study by Kaiser Permanente, once individuals are relieved of that debt, they go back to the doctor and then live healthier lives. They can contribute to society in the way that we all desire. But the process of medical forgiveness is largely a function of nonprofits, and while it works well for a limited number of people, it's not a solution that remedies problems with our healthcare systemWant to learn more about RISE? Whether you live in the heart of one of Ohio's big cities or in the rolling hills of Appalachia - or anywhere in between - what happens in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus make a huge difference in your life and what happens in our public school classrooms every day. That's why it's so important to have pro-public education lawmakers in the General Assembly and to hear from them about the big issues on the horizon for our public schools. OEA members were able to hear from a bipartisan panel of state lawmakers in December, 2024, about education priorities heading into the final days of the 135th General Assembly and looking ahead at what's coming in the 136th General Assembly as it gets underway in 2025.SUBSCRIBE | Click here to subscribe to Public Education Matters on Apple Podcasts or click here to listen on Spotify so you don't miss a thing. Building soil health and finding system balance requires commitment, fortitude, adaptability, and working with Mother Nature. Rick Clark of Clark Land & Cattle and Farm Green Consulting is a fifth-generation farmer in Warren County, Indiana. Rick farms corn, soybeans, wheat, milo, cover crops, small grains, and other oilseed crops using regenerative organic no-till methods and systems thinking on all his acreage. Rick refers to his system as regenerative organic stewardship with no tillage. Rick was a guest speaker at the recent Profitable Soil Health Field Day held in Franklin County, Virginia. In talking with Mary, Jeff, and Eric about his experience and organic no-till journey, Rick emphasizes the need for early success with cover cropping and soil health-building practices, particularly when people are shifting farming systems and paradigms. Rick warns that with current volatile input costs and low cash crop prices, this is not a time to be a hero but to start slowly and wisely. However, Rick also states: "If you're not uncomfortable with what you're doing, then you're not trying hard enough to change."Tune in wherever you get your podcasts. For additional thoughts and resources from Rick Clark on regenerative organic no-till farming, please visit https://www.farmgreen.land/.To learn about the Virginia Soil Health Coalition and join the Coalition's quarterly meetings, please visit https://www.virginiasoilhealth.org/.
