I must do something.”…this episode is for you The patternYou feel something uncomfortable:Fear.Pressure.Uncertainty.Overwhelm.And almost immediately your system goes:I need to do something. NOW.So you start:* comparing your offers / CV / website* redoing your strategy (again)* questioning your direction… your future… your LIFEYou reshuffle. Reorganise. Make big decisions. Burn things down. Not from clarity. From dysregulation. From trying to escape how you feel.As I say in the episode: none of this action comes from strategy – it comes from trying to escape the inner experience. That's the real pattern.Fear-based decisions feel differentThey usually feel:Urgent.Mentally loud.Heavy.Rushed.Pressured.With thoughts like:“I just need to fix / figure this out right now…”That's not intuition. That's your nervous system in distress. One of the biggest reminders I share:Feeling unsafe does not mean something needs to be fixed (right now).Grounded decisions don't come from panicThey feel quieter. They don't arrive with chaos. They come after you've allowed yourself to feel what you're feeling instead of trying to action it away.Your inner dialogue starts to sound more like:“I don't need to solve this today.”“I've handled hard things before.”“I don't need to dismantle everything right now.”Getting yourself to that place? That's self-leadership.Here's the rule I now live by:I act when I'm calm.I don't make big decisions when I feel overwhelmed, scared, or desperate for certainty.Because the thing you're obsessing over is rarely the real problem.Usually, it's how you feel that needs tending to - not the external situation.A few lines from the episode“Please stop trying to action away your inner experience. Because when you do that, you are not making good decisions on behalf of yourself.” (05:21)“The situation hasn't changed. It's just suddenly urgent because now I'm uncomfortable – and my nervous system wants out.” (08:19)“I've learnt to recognise when I'm in that place because it feels like I'm scratching around to find a decision, not receiving one – forcing one.” (07:56)“Although it feels like the end of the world if I don't fix it right now, I've learnt I don't need to solve this today. I've handled hard things before.” (10:29)If you've been in “I must do something” mode lately, this episode might be exactly what helps you slow down, reconnect with yourself, and make decisions from clarity instead of fear. Two thirds of consumers think tipping has become less voluntary. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has issued guidance on the use of tipping machines in cafes, bars and restaurants, as research also shows a fifth of people have also paid an unexpected service charge. The guidance includes making sure payment terminals let customers easily avoid gratuity. The body says mandatory service charges need to be properly advertised and voluntary ones should never go on the bill automatically. This episode of the podcast truly sets the tone for what's ahead: a slower, more intentional start to 2026 that is grounded in truth, humor, reflection, and trust, so if you have ever felt pressure to rush forward before you're ready, then this conversation will feel like permission to breathe. Jill welcomes everyone to the first episode of 2026! Tune in as she opens up with a heartfelt welcome and a moment of celebration after discovering Spotify Wrapped named the show a 2025 marathon show, fan favorite, and one of the most shared podcasts of the year! Jill breaks down what those numbers actually mean (nearly 1,000% growth in new listeners, increased followers, and global reach) while grounding the win in gratitude for the community and team behind the scenes! Jill's conversation then shifts into something far more personal, with her reflecting on a holiday season that didn't look the way she expected: a Christmas without her family home, without beloved decorations, with illness, only fragments of time with all five kids together, etc., and she shares how those changes stirred old childhood wounds that she points out are tied to scarcity, safety, and control. She also discusses how the loss of aesthetic rituals revealed just how much they mattered to her, not out of perfectionism but as a form of healing and self-expression! Jill also features stories of last-minute wrapping paper, forced "Christmas Eve," and learning to laugh at herself when things fall apart, and she revisits her now-signature practice of closing out a year intentionally, explaining why she doesn't rush into January 1st as a clean slate. Jill discusses slowing down, reflecting, releasing, and allowing the year to end on a proper note before welcoming the next. She draws from lunar rhythms, personal intuition, and years of guiding others through this process, and rather than resolutions or hustle, Jill invites listeners into stillness, clarity, and boundaries as preparation for the coming year of the Fire Horse! Zach sits down with Dana and Sean, a couple whose nearly 30-year relationship includes teenage pregnancy, early marriage, deep faith, repeated infidelity, and an extraordinary rebuilding process that reshaped their marriage from the ground up. Dana and Sean met as children at church, reconnected in high school, and married young after an unplanned pregnancy—long before either of them knew who they were or how marriage actually worked. Pressured by religious expectations and carrying unresolved childhood trauma, they entered marriage already fractured. What followed were years of struggle: emotional immaturity, financial stress, multiple affairs, and seasons where staying together felt impossible. Instead of walking away, they chose the slow, painful work of rebuilding. Sean entered therapy to understand himself before trying to understand his wife. Dana learned to confront her own patterns, pride, and expectations—anchoring herself in faith, presence, and radical honesty. Together, they rejected shallow answers and chose accountability, counseling, and humility. Now parents of four children (ages 26–16), Dana and Sean reflect on how faith became not a rulebook but a living presence—the “third strand” that sustained them when their marriage felt dead. They talk candidly about selfishness, stubborn hope, and why staying isn't about endurance but about vision: building a marriage their children would actually want to emulate. This conversation is raw, grounded, and deeply hopeful—a reminder that resurrection is possible, even after years of damage. Key Takeaways Early marriage magnifies unhealed trauma – Getting married young without self-knowledge set them up for struggle from the start. Staying isn't passive – Rebuilding required therapy, in-home separation, humility, and consistent effort from both partners. Self-work precedes relationship work – Sean learned that understanding himself was essential before he could truly love Dana. Faith as presence, not pressure – Their spirituality evolved from rigid rules to lived connection and daily surrender. Infidelity doesn't have to be the end – While not prescribing staying, they show what repair can look like when both partners commit to real change. Love languages come from childhood – Sean gives gifts; Dana craves quality time—both rooted in how they were raised. Resurrection is real – A marriage can be “dead dead” and still come back stronger the second time around. Vision sustains commitment – They stayed not just for the kids, but to model a marriage worth choosing. Guest Info Dana is a marriage coach, speaker, and host of the podcast Rebuilding Us, where she shares honest conversations about infidelity, faith, and marriage repair. She is known for her commitment to authenticity and refusal to offer shallow advice. Website: https://danache.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mrsdanache/?hl=en Sean is a firefighter who prefers life behind the scenes. His willingness to engage in therapy, self-reflection, and accountability played a central role in their rebuilding process. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for December 22, 2025 is: temporize • TEM-puh-ryze • verb To temporize is to avoid making a decision or giving a definite answer in order to have more time. // Pressured by voters on both sides of the issue, the congressman temporized. See the entry > Examples: "The question is, Did you eat the last piece of pie? And the politician who ate the last piece of pie doesn't want to say yes, because they might get in trouble. Doesn't want to say no, because that's an outright lie. So they waver, they equivocate, they temporize, they put things in context, and they talk like a politician." — David Frum, The Atlantic (The David Frum Show podcast), 21 May 2025 Did you know? Temporize comes from the Middle French word temporiser, which in turn likely traces back via Medieval Latin temporizāre, "to delay," to the Latin noun tempus, meaning "time." Tempus is also the root of such words as tempo, contemporary, and temporal. If you need to buy some time, you might resort to temporizing, but you probably won't win admiration for doing so, as the word typically carries a negative connotation. For instance, a political leader faced with a difficult issue might temporize by talking vaguely about possible solutions without actually doing anything. The point of such temporizing is to avoid taking definitive—and possibly unpopular—action, in hopes that the problem will somehow go away.

Dr. Francis Townsend's popular plan for old-age pensions pressured Roosevelt, who disliked "the dole," into creating Social Security. Concurrently, Father Charles Coughlin, the influential "Radio Priest," turned against Roosevelt after feeling used and ignored, specifically following a meeting at Hyde Park arranged by Joe Kennedy. Coughlin allied with Townsend and Huey Long's successor, Gerald L.K. Smith, to form a third party aimed at throwing the election to the House of Representatives. Despite their massive radio audiences, these political amateurs failed to get on the ballot in key states like New York and California. NUMBER 3

In 2023, Russia estimated that 32,000 students from the Middle East were living in the country — nearly half of them Egyptian. But in recent months, controversy has erupted in Egypt following the publication of a YouTube video that showed a Ukrainian-held prisoner of war. The young man, Amar Mohamed, was an Egyptian student in Russia who had been persuaded by Moscow's propaganda machine to join the army.

In this solo episode, Dr. Debi shares 11 anonymized, real-world scenarios showing how unhealed betrayal quietly derails performance, leadership, health, and culture at work. From weight changes and gut issues to micromanagement, perfectionism, disengagement, and self-betrayal, you'll see how a personal rupture (even years old) can surface on the job—and what to do about it. You'll also hear research-backed prevalence stats (weight, gut, sleep) and a clear invitation to move from Stages 2–3 (shock and survival) into Stages 4–5 (healing and growth).    Who this episode is for  Professionals, leaders, and founders who feel “off” at work and can't trace why  HR/people leaders noticing unexplained dips in performance, morale, or collaboration  Anyone who suspects an earlier betrayal might still be shaping today's choices, health, and capacity    Key concepts & signals  Betrayal shows up at work physically (weight, gut, sleep), mentally (focus, overthinking), emotionally (hypervigilance, distrust).  Nervous system hijack: After broken trust, people often swing to micromanagement, second-guessing, isolation, or over-preparation.  Stages matter: Creativity, confidence, and connection typically reliably return as you move into Stages 4–5 of the 5-Stage model.  Research snapshots (from Debi's community data):  Weight/eating struggles: ~47%  Gut issues (IBS/Crohn's/constipation/diarrhea): ~45%  Sleep problems: ~68%    Case snapshots (anonymized)  Sarah — Weight & confidence spiral Discovery of husband + best friend affair → stress eating → +40 lbs, pre-diabetes, energy crash. Missed two promotions; client-facing confidence plummeted.  Marcus — Gut & career derailment Brother's $50k “investment” betrayal (borrowed from 401k) → nausea → IBS, 30 missed days in 6 months, $12k out-of-pocket care → transfer to lower-paying support role.  Jennifer — From empowering to micromanaging Daughter's addiction/deceit eroded trust → hypervigilance, excessive approvals, morale drop → $30k demotion.  David — Cultural catalyst to clock-watcher Father covertly rewrote will for estranged sister → emotional numbness → stopped mentoring/initiatives → ~25% drop in departmental satisfaction.  Lisa — Anxiety, over-prep, stalled growth Fiancé + maid of honor affair weeks before wedding → panic in meetings, medical leave, therapy costs → over-preparation and hesitation → lost Senior Manager promotion.  Tom — Creativity collapse Close friend's emotional affair with his partner during family caregiving → withdrew creative risk-taking → lost edge in pitches → 3 major accounts (~$2M) missed.  Rachel — Sleepless CEO Sister's manipulation of elderly mother & finances → insomnia, ruminations → poorer board-level decisions, investor strain, performance dip; sleep meds added side-effects.  Kevin — Isolation after double betrayal Wife left for best friend → withdrew from people, closed-door leadership → cross-functional effectiveness down ~40%; silos and delays multiplied.  Maria — Paralysis by over-analysis Business + romantic partner embezzled to fund secret life → hyper-checking, documentation glut → missed time-sensitive opportunities; costly lost trading advantage.  Robert — Purpose lost, pipeline thins Adult son (aided by brother) sued him for “emotional damages” → quit mentoring/junior development → leadership pipeline weakened; burnout → early retirement.  Andrea (self-betrayal) — Successful but misaligned Pressured away from teaching into law → chronic fatigue, migraines, disengagement, ~30% billable drop, ~$800k lost potential revenue → leave of absence. The cost wasn't only professional—it was existential.    How to spot it (self-check)  “I don't recognize how I lead or work anymore.” (micromanaging, over-prepping, perfectionism)  “My body is louder than my calendar.” (gut flares, migraines, insomnia before big decisions)  “I'm here but not really here.” (numbness, disengagement, loss of initiative/mentoring)  “I don't trust my read on people.” (multiple confirmations for simple tasks, second-guessing)  “I'm productive—but always late.” (hyper-vigilant thoroughness that kills timeliness)  “I'm successful—and empty.” (self-betrayal: achievement without meaning)    Try this: 6 reflection prompts  Which case felt uncomfortably familiar—and why?  Where does betrayal show up most for you: body, mind, or relationships at work?  What do you over-do (control, analyze, isolate) to feel safer—and what does it cost?  Which responsibility did you stop (mentoring, initiating, pitching) after the rupture?  What would “Stage 4–5 me” do differently this week?  If self-betrayal is the theme, what small act of alignment could you take in 72 hours?    If you lead a team (HR, managers, execs)  Watch for sudden style flips (empowering → micromanaging; creative → conventional).  Replace “performance policing” with support + boundaries (clear priorities, fewer approvals, flexible micro-rest).  Offer psychological safety + access to evidence-based healing resources; normalize PTO for real recovery.  Protect culture carriers (your “Davids”)—and rebuild when they dim.    Practical next steps  Name it: If you recognized yourself, that's progress.  Assess: Take the Post Betrayal Syndrome® indicators seriously (weight, gut, sleep).  Stabilize the body: Basic routines (sleep hygiene, hydration, movement) reduce reactivity.  Skill up: Learn boundaries, rebuild self-trust, and pace decisions during healing.  Advance stages: If you're in Stages 2–3, get guided support to move into 4–5, where creativity, confidence, and connection reliably return.  Share back: Tell Dr. Debi which story resonated most; it helps tailor future episodes.  Memorable lines  “We can try to leave betrayal at the door—but our body and leadership bring it to work.”  “Micromanagement is often a trust injury in disguise.”  “Success that betrays you is still betrayal.”  Resources & links  The PBT Institute — programs, coaches, community: https://thepbtinstitute.com/  Corporate/HR offerings & talks: https://thepbtinstitute.com/corporate/  Tell Dr. Debi which scenario hit home for you, and what you'll try this week. It's October, which means we're about to be hit with the annual consumption tsunami. Black Friday. Cyber Monday. Then straight into Christmas panic-buying. And somewhere in all of this chaos, your customers – the ones who chose your brand because they care about quality, sustainability, conscious consumption – they're feeling pressured. Pressured to spend for the sake of getting a deal. Pressured to consume for the sake of consuming. It's the whole disposable goods, instant-gratification, fast-food and fast-fashion mentality playing out in real time. And here's what really gets me: Is this the world we want to live in? Is this the world we want our kids to grow up in? Where everything is about faster, cheaper, more disposable? Where local boutiques disappear one by one while Amazon rules everything? I certainly don't.  And the data backs me up – sustainable, purpose-driven brands are growing 64% faster than alternatives. Your customers want to buy from brands that share their values. This isn't just the right thing to do – it's good business. So in this episode, I'm going to show you how purpose-driven brands can absolutely dominate this season without compromising their values, without manipulating their customers, and without training everyone to only buy on discount. I'm calling it Green Friday to Green Christmas. And it's about so much more than one long weekend of deals.   Links mentioned in this episode: If you'd like help to achieve your goals, I invite you to have a chat to find out how we can make that happen together HERE By booking a Free Growth Strategy https://productpreneurmarketing.com/lets-talk https://productpreneurmarketing.com/q4   Other Ways To Enjoy This Episode: Listen on Apple Podcasts Listen on Spotify Youtube
