“Great Is Thy Faithfulness” is a Christian hymn that originated in the United States. The lyrics were written by Thomas O. Chisholm, a Methodist minister from Kentucky. He wrote the poem in 1923 about God's faithfulness over his lifetime. The music was composed by William M. Runyan, a friend of Chisholm, specifically for the poem. The hymn was later popularized by the Moody Bible Institute and Billy Graham's crusades.

In this overstimulating, stressful world gratitude is an active way to push back on the negative and highlight the positive. This is a really good arrangement of this hymn by Bob Walters. Thomas O. Chisholm wrote the lyrics of this hymn in 1923 about God's faithfulness over his lifetime. Chisholm sent the song to William Runyan in Kansas, who was affiliated with both the Moody Bible Institute and Hope Publishing Company. Runyan set the poem to music, and it was published that same year by Hope Publishing Company and became popular among church congregations. Chisholm's lyrics reference the Bible verses of Lamentations 3:22-23. The hymn gained a wide audience after becoming successful with Dr. William Henry Houghton of the Moody Bible Institute and Billy Graham, who used the song frequently on his international crusades. Since the mid-20th century, this song has been the university hymn of Cairn University which was previously Philadelphia Biblical University after being Philadelphia College of Bible, established in 1913. I enjoy it very much and hope you can enjoy it as well.

Thomas O. Chisholm's yearning for more Christlikeness gave us the words of this hymn, O to Be Like Thee. It was composer William J. Kirkpatrick who set the words to music to complete a hymn of longing and commitment. Kirkpatrick published more than one hundred collections of hymns and his love for Christ resulted in composing many popular hymns. Between Chisholm and Kirkpatrick, many beautiful hymns resonate in our hearts. Article taken from Then Sings My Soul, Volumes 1 & 2 by Robert J. Morgan. Copyright © 2003 by Robert J. Morgan. If you had to create a poem and turn it into lyrics but didn't know how to make that transition, could you do it? Thomas O. Chisholm was able to adapt by having his daughter hum the melody over and over, turning a children's song into a hymn of redemption and dedication, Living for Jesus. Chisholm had poor health and limited formal education, but his poetry was notable and many poems were turned into hymns that still bless us today. The ground of true thanksgiving is faith - belief that the good things we have are given to us from someone outside of us who deserves thanks. And when God's people give him this thanksgiving, that act of embodied faith draws people who don't know God into a desired relationship with him. Thomas O. Chisholm wrote the poem in 1923 about God's faithfulness over his lifetime. Chisholm sent the song to William Runyan in Kansas, who was affiliated with both the Moody Bible Institute and Hope Publishing Company. Runyan set the poem to music, and it was published that same year by Hope Publishing Company and became popular among church groups.[1] The Biblical lyrics reference Lamentations 3:22-23.[2] The song was exposed to wide audiences after becoming popular with Dr. William Henry Houghton of the Moody Bible Institute and Billy Graham, who used the song frequently on his international crusades.[3] Since the middle 20th century, this hymn has been the university hymn of Cairn University which was formerly Philadelphia Biblical University and prior to that Philadelphia College of Bible, founded in 1913.The phrase "great is thy faithfulness" comes from the Old Testament Book of Lamentations 3:23.
