Not all change is created equal. Some change is easy and some is hard. All qualified coaches should be well equipped to support coachees when they are contemplating easy change. When it comes to hard change, coaches adopting straightforward coaching approaches might not cope so well with facilitating this change for coaches who are finding change more of a struggle. What makes the difference between easy change and hard change is going to depend from coachee to coachee and we have to be agile when approaching the coaching room and what the coachee brings. Sometimes, we won't know in the first session that hard change is going to be hard. It may not become apparent until a few sessions down the line, so we have to be ready for that and curious about how we might support the coachee through their difficulty with the change. In this episode, we explore the differences between easy change and hard change and the power of coaching in facilitating both. In our discussion you will find out why we believe that Transformational Coaching is such a powerful approach to helping coachees, whatever type of change they're facing. Enjoy the podcast? According to the author Oliver Burkeman we each have approximately 4,000 weeks to run around on our planet. Some people will get a few more weeks and some will get a few less, but Burkeman's point is that our time to enjoy life is finite. In this episode we dive into Burkeman's thought-provoking book 4,000 Weeks: Time and How to Use It. Join us as we explore its main themes and how they might assist us in the coaching room. The title of the book makes it sound like a time-management tomb, but in reality it is more of an existential reflection on our relationship with time and on how we might have a more realistic sense of what we have time for. Join us for this podcast where we explore Oliver Burkeman's ideas and how they provide us with a way of exploring what is important for our coachee to focus on as they navigate their finite time on earth. Do You Have a Health Plan for Midlife and Beyond? You have a business plan. You have a financial plan. But what about a health plan?In this episode of the Menopause Conversations podcast, Angela poses one of the most important — and overlooked — questions midlife women need to ask themselves:Do I have a plan for my health as I age? With honesty and insight, Angela dives into the concept of health span vs. lifespan, and there's a difference you probably haven't considered. Most women begin to experience a noticeable health decline around the age of 63 BUT that doesn't have to be your reality. She explores the everyday symptoms so many women brush off or tolerate — brain fog, fatigue, sleep disturbances, weight gain, aches and pains, hot flushes, rising blood pressure or cholesterol — and explains how these are signals your body is out of balance, not just inevitable signs of aging. You'll also hear:The real reason symptoms only show up once the body is already under stress. What movement does to your brain and hormones (and why you need more of it).How simple, sustainable choices — from better food to fresh air — can help you thrive. An honest question to ask yourself about where you want to be in 6 months, 1 year… or even 5 years?Angela shares her personal story of slipping out of balance earlier this year, how she found her way back through consistency and mindset shifts, and how you can do the same — without overhauling your entire life. This episode is your invitation to stop putting your health last, and start building the future you want to live in.Grab your free guide: Thriving in Menopause
We know that contracting at the beginning of a coaching relationship is vital and an integral part of our coaching. It sets the parameters within which we will work with our clients. Ending the coaching relationship should be seen as another vital and integral stage in a coaching journey. The ending may, however, raise some questions, cause some confusion and may even result in some discomfort. How do we know when it's time to say goodbye to our coachee? How do we end the coaching ethically and with compassion? What if our coachees don't want to say goodbye? In this episode we explore these questions, for the benefit of the coach and the coachee. Tom was delighted to have the opportunity to interview Dr Hannah Coysh, who completed our Doctors' Transformational Coaching Diploma a couple of years ago now. Tom thoroughly enjoyed the conversation, and you'll understand why when you listen to the podcast and experience a taste of Hannah's infectious enthusiasm for life. Hannah is a Frailty GP, A Lifestyle Medic and Coach, a New to GP Coach and Mentor, a Medical Student Tutor, and also offers coaching to those experiencing pregnancy loss, holding a safe space for them and helping them to find a way to move forward. Hannah manages to incorporate coaching into all aspects of her professional life. Hannah is also the person who introduced us to the world of Lifestyle Medicine and suggested that we share our coaching offering with doctors operating within that arena. Tom caught up with Hannah to find out about her journey into the world of lifestyle medicine and coaching, and her current approach to coaching. Tom asked Hannah about her favourite coaching tools and questions and what learning to coach has given her. Hannah also talks about her passion for the outdoors and her enthusiasm for an activity that Tom was happy to leave her to enjoy without him. SummaryIn this episode of The Chasing Health Podcast, Chase Smith and Chris Bealhen answer listener questions in a fun and helpful Q&A session. They start by talking about the difference between guilt and shame. Guilt can actually help us see when we made a choice that doesn't match our goals, but shame makes us feel bad about who we are. The guys explain why a little guilt is okay, but shame can stop us from getting help or making progress. They also answer questions like: How can what you do to lose weight be the same as what you do to keep it off? What should you focus on if you're single after a long marriage? What should you do if you're tracking your food but still feel hungry? And how do you focus on fat loss when you're super tired after work? Chase and Chris give real tips on how to handle these challenges while keeping your health goals in mind.Chapters(00:00) Guilt vs. Shame: What's the Difference?(05:23) Do You Have to Keep Doing What You Did to Lose Weight?(12:30) Single After 28 Years: Now What?(15:12) Tracking Food but Still Hungry? In this powerful episode of the BraveCo Podcast, Jason Vallotton sits down with his father, Kris Vallotton, to discuss what it really takes to prepare sons for marriage and build strong, lasting relationships. The conversation explores how most men enter marriage unprepared, largely because they were never taught key values like covenant, ownership, emotional responsibility, and flexibility.Kris shares profound insights into the difference between cohabitation and covenant marriage, explaining how true commitment is rooted in sacrificial love and lifelong dedication. They emphasize the importance of teaching young men emotional regulation, spiritual leadership, and practical habits—long before they enter a romantic relationship. The episode also dives into the role of a woman as a “catalyst” in a man's life, and why many men will never fully step into their purpose without that relational sharpening. They unpack the danger of coddling kids, the necessity of emotional flexibility in marriage, and how confidence is built through consistent ownership and challenge—not comfort.Jason and Kris weave together stories from their lives, including powerful examples of parenting, failure, resilience, and the redemptive grace of God. Whether you're a young man preparing for marriage, a father raising sons, or a man trying to rebuild after a breakdown, this episode offers deep wisdom, practical guidance, and raw encouragement to grow into the man God designed you to be.Chapters:00:00 – Do You Have a Plan to Become the Man God Called You to Be? 01:24 – Why We're Failing to Prepare Our Sons for Marriage 04:54 – The Power of Intentional Fatherhood: Raising Sons Into Men 06:02 – Marriage Is a Covenant, Not a Contract 09:10 – What Every Man Must Know Before He Marries 12:36 – Teaching Emotional Safety and Responsibility in the Home 15:21 – You're Not Supposed to Be Complete Before Marriage 18:00 – How a Wife Catalyzes a Man's Purpose 24:54 – Real Manhood Is Built Through Pain, Ownership, and Grit 33:48 – The Secret to Strong Marriages: Emotional Flexibility and Covenant Leadership ABOUT BRAVECOWe live in a time where men are hunting for the truth and looking for the codebook to manhood. We often get asked how doctors use their new coaching skills once they've completed our Transformational Coaching Diploma programme. This is obviously a question that our coaching doctors have the opportunity to explore for themselves in advance, of completing the programme, as they receive coaching throughout the course. There is plenty of time for them to consider what the future holds for them and what direction they might go in. With over 300 doctors having completed our diploma we have a good range of coaching doctors who have let us know what they are up to. In this episode we explore how some of our alumni are using coaching in their professional lives. We hope that the episode may inspire you, encourage you and reaffirm your interest in learning to coach. Enjoy the podcast? Episode 114: Challenges in Coaching: When is a law not a law? Is a certain amount of stress good for you? Definitely! Is there a point at which the amount of stress becomes detrimental? Most certainly! Is there a law, a model, or a formula that tells us how much stress is too much? Contrary to popular opinion, probably not! In this episode Tom airs his frustrations about an often rolled out piece of research called the ‘Yerkes-Dodson Law'. We discuss the law's origins, what Yerkes and Dodson were actually measuring and how the law has become a universal measure for all sorts of theories. As we often say, all models are wrong but some are useful. When it comes to the Yerkes-Dodson Law, we may well be exploring a law that doesn't actually exist. Episode 113: Episode 112: Topic: Leadership Coaching Part 2 In our last episode we explored how leadership might show up in the coaching room, even if we're not formally engaged in leadership coaching and why, as Transformational Coaches, we might choose to feel confident in coaching those in leadership positions. In this episode we're putting an element of theory behind the concept of leadership and in doing so, explore a number of different leadership styles; ten in fact. We discuss the pros and cons of each leadership style and when it might be useful to engage in each. We also offer examples of coaching situations where we have each discussed leadership styles with our coachees. If you've coached an individual within the NHS there is a good chance that you have been called upon to have a conversation around leadership. Not necessarily about the mechanics of the leadership role but perhaps around how the coachee shows up and how they interact with other people. Leadership presents itself throughout organisations and often those without a defined leadership role are taking responsibility for heading up certain initiatives or leading on certain aspects of the culture. Tom has been coaching leaders for 15 years and has found that the main topic of conversation in the coaching room for leaders is other people and the relationship dynamics that the coachee is experiencing and perhaps struggling with. Beyond their people issues, leaders often use coaching as a safe space to explore their concerns, their worries and their insecurities. Being in a leadership role is often a lonely place and being able to have confidential conversations with someone you trust is invaluable. Join us in this episode of the podcast, the first of two leadership episodes, where we explore why we, as Transformational Coaches, might choose to feel confident in coaching those in leadership positions. A new MP3 sermon from First Christian Church is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Do You Have the Faith of a Child? Subtitle: Together We Grow Speaker: Dr. T. J. Gentry Broadcaster: First Christian Church Event: Devotional Date: 6/3/2025 Bible: Matthew 18:4 Length: 1 min.
Your coachees may tell you about a sticky situation or problematic people that they have in their lives, and talk about the stress that this is causing them. Often, one of the options that the coachee has to help resolve the issue is to have a conversation with someone else involved, but they may be avoiding this option. Understanding why a coachee might be choosing not to have what they might perceive as a difficult conversation is useful and may help you to facilitate the coachee's thinking. This may well result in them deciding to have a crucial conversation with someone that improves their situation. So in this episode we start to explore the topic of difficult conversations, discussing why people might not be having them, and looking at what might help your coachee to see them from a new perspective. Do You Have a Personal Relationship with God and Pray Directly to God, the Creator of the Universe, for the Needs of Others? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Will you come before God with your prayers, and for whom will you pray? We can and should come before God on behalf ourselves and others -- intercessory prayer. You and I are given the privilege of following Moses' example when he prayed to God on behalf of his people in Psalms 102:1-2: “Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry come to you! Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call!". Because of what Jesus has done for us, we can exercise this privilege of praying directly to God, the Creator of the Universe. You come before God by talking to Him with your prayers and in a personal relationship with Him. For whom and what do you pray? TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I now take a deep breath and stop. So often I miss your hand and gifts in my life because I am preoccupied and anxious. Grant me the power to pause each day and each week to simply rest in your arms of love. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 132). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Past Failures. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Grace. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Romans 1:10-12; James 5:13-18; Exodus 3:1-15; Psalms 130:1-8. Tune in to discover how to make this summer joyful and restful, leaning on God's promise of rest.Key PointsUnderstand the Summer Shift: Whether your kids are home from school or you're adjusting homeschool routines, summer can feel chaotic. It's normal to feel overwhelmed, but you can reframe this season as a gift to slow down and connect with your kids.Practical Tips for a Slower Summer:Embrace a Messier Home: Let go of the pressure for a spotless house. Try a 15-minute daily “reset” with your kids and remember that messes are signs of your blessings (Psalm 127:3).Lighten the Schedule: Avoid overpacking with activities. Choose 1-2 meaningful outings per week and leave room for spontaneity (Ecclesiastes 3:1).Build Simple Connection Moments: Prioritize presence with low-effort activities like reading or a backyard picnic. Use everyday moments to share God's love (Deuteronomy 6:7).Protect Your Peace: Watch for triggers of anger or overwhelm. Pause to pray and use the Trigger Tracker to respond with grace (Matthew 11:28).Personal Story: Natalie shares how letting her kids' LEGOs take over the dining room one summer helped her embrace the mess and find joy in the moment.Biblical Encouragement: Lean on God's promise of rest in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”Do You Have a Critical Heart, Mama?Help! With the best of intentions but armed only with the knowledge we got from decades ago, from yesterday on YouTube or AI, we could be doing it wrong. Exercises like these many women are getting wrong after 40, can change the trajectory of your aging and not only not be giving desired results but taking time and energy that could be placed somewhere with far better results. I shared this with our community members months ago because the reactions were significant. So I wanted to expand the reach and perhaps give you a little insight to why you may be not only not getting the results you want but getting the opposite of desired results. Knee Strengthening Exercises You May be Getting Wrong After 40 What you think is the problem: weak quads What may really be the problem: weak glutes Though some amount of knee isolation can be helpful (sharing a resource that won't hurt and may help you), it's three things that are often the issue: Tight hips Weak glutes Poor quad: hamstring ratio To target tight hips: pigeon pose (I do mine on the Power Plate for added benefit) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcPwOm-fF9Y To target weak glutes: small isolative exercises are your first stop. If you go for squats, deadlifts, lunges or step ups without strong glutes, the wrong muscles will continually be doing the work. You'll be reinforcing poor movement patterns. Don't be afraid to back up and do some real “work” even if you can lift heavy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERU-ajYfEQ0 To isolate hamstrings: Try some very small movements, shorter range of motion and lighter weight (potentially just your leg) may be the first thing you do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxKSNP4zxgo [I'm actually testing something new right now to help isolate hamstrings and improve gait that you may be interested in: .] If you are out of alignment, with rotated hips this may be a game-changer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iQrB5SF-9o&t=1335s A big issue in strengthening the hamstrings is the hip flexors have a reciprocal activation. That makes it challenging to improve hamstring strength because the stronger, and tighter, hip flexor will interfere. So though you're doing a “hamstring exercise” you may not be improving the hamstring strength. That's what made my experience with Protonics so important. You sit for hours, unless you've managed to figure out walking, standing or have a more active job. Glute Exercises You May be Getting Wrong After 40 This I emphasized previously. The “big exercises” may not be recruiting enough of the right muscles if you haven't gotten the neural activation optimized. For our members, the Glute Challenge is inside the Flipping 50 membership and it pairs well with any of our 12-week strength programs, reinforcing results if glutes are a weak link. Not a member yet? Perfect time to join!! Or you can find Glute Challenge here. Low Back Exercises You May be Getting Wrong After 40 What you think is the problem: tight low back and weak abs/core What is really the problem: tight hips and weak glutes and an overburdened lower back because of these. The hip joint is supposed to be a mobile joint. Most of us are sitting too much, then may be attempting to exercise (yah us!) but not be releasing tight hip flexors and getting optimal strength and stretch in the hip or hamstring. The lower back is more or less a “victim” because any torque created due to lack of glute strength and hip mobility. Running vs Walking for Exercise You May be Getting Wrong After 40 What we think we should do to get in shape faster: running What may work better during peri (and post menopause): walking Calorie for calorie, minute to minute running wins. But it was never about calories burned, it was about what the calories did to your hormones that matters. Running in the middle zone (zone 3), is where most go wrong. It's an intensity where, compared to lower movement or high intensity exercise there are few benefits and often more detriments. If you love running, it feels good, puts joy in your heart, there is a way to include it. But if you think that running wins over walking for optimizing fat weight loss, it's false. For women, the biggest roadblocks to weight loss are lack of protein and overall calories to support the muscle needed too much cortisol worsening anabolic resistance long duration “cardio sessions” High Intensity Workouts You May be Getting Wrong After 40 Going to bootcamp? Just stop. Do strength training. Do HIIT cardio sessions. Don't do them together. Don't do them in addition to a full list of the rest of things!! You're sabotaging your own results. Coming up you'll hear about the secret of timing during those HIIT (or SIT) workouts that could make all the difference. Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Would you like access to our advanced agency training for FREE? https://www.agencymastery360.com/training Have you hit the limit of the growth you can single-handedly bring to your agency? What steps are you taking to ensure you continue to be your organization's MVP? For many agency owners, reaching hitting a glass ceiling on growth signals the need to bring on a skilled operator to help eliminate low-value tasks from their schedule. Today's featured guest specializes in operations hiring and has developed a systematic approach to identifying and delegating low value tasks that consume CEOs' time and energy. As an expert in operational efficiency, she trains operators to create effective processes that free founders to focus on strategic growth. She shares her secret to a great hiring funnel, what results to expect from an operator's first 90 days in your agency, and the #1 thing an operator does for their agency founder. Learn actionable insights on breaking through operational bottlenecks and building a strong operational foundation through strategic hiring and training. Jhana Li is a former COO and the founder of Spyglass Ops, an Operations Hiring Agency, working on behalf of digital businesses to find and hire operations positions. She discusses the challenges agency owners face when trying to scale their businesses and share insights on breaking through the common glass ceiling that many entrepreneurs encounter. Jhana emphasizes that growth stagnation often occurs when founders reach their personal limits in creativity and productivity. She provides valuable strategies for developing new skill sets and building a capable team to propel business growth beyond personal capabilities. In this episode, we'll discuss: The secret to a great hiring funnel that attracts A-players. The crucial first 90 days that determines an operator's success. The #1 thing an operator does for a CEO. Scaling Your Agency Beyond the Founder's Glass Ceiling As a former COO, Jhana has seen the glass ceiling many founders encounter at some point in their growth occurs once they've hit the limit of the growth they can personally create. It's no longer about showing up and single-handedly working out every problem or how innovative they can be. Breaking through that glass ceiling requires both personal transformation and strategic team building. The path forward demands founders step back from their hands-on approach and focus on developing a trusted leadership structure. This includes establishing middle management positions across all functional departments, ensuring each area has dedicated decision-makers and strategic thinkers. Central to this evolution is hiring an operations manager who can unify the team and create organizational cohesion, transforming disparate departments into a synchronized whole. Do You Have a Hiring Funnel That Consistently Attracts A-Players? For Jhana, hiring A-players is not about fishing in the right pond but rather using the right fishing rod. Great talent is available everywhere but does your agency have a hiring funnel that will consistently extract the right A-players for the right role? A strategically designed hiring funnel serves as both an attractor and a filter, automatically screening out 95% to 98% of applicants before they reach the interview stage. This efficiency comes from carefully crafted criteria that not only draw in ideal candidates but also discourage those who wouldn't be a good fit, saving valuable time and resources. This approach contrasts sharply with the common scarcity-driven hiring mindset, where employers cast wide nets and hesitate to filter out any candidates. According to Jhana, a well-structured hiring system achieves better results by focusing on quality over quantity, ultimately leading to conversations with only the most promising 3% of candidates who truly align with the role requirements. What's the Secret to a Great Hiring Funnel? Building mousetraps in your job post and hiring process is one thing – for instance, Jhana and her team add a codeword to the job description that they'll ask the candidate to repeat during the job application process. However, she only uses that type of strategy for roles that require a high level of attention to detail. Other than that, she has a secret weapon that has consistently given her the best results: performing a skill assessment before sending a candidate to interviews. Skill assessments can take up to two hours, which is exactly the point. It's a way to stress test the candidate to see if they already have the experience for the role. Jhana likes to include very specific questions to get candidates to think about how they would tackle a major challenge associated with that role, which experienced candidates will have no problem doing. Moreover, the effort a candidate puts into completing a skill assessment can be telling. A candidate who submits a thorough, well-structured response demonstrates a commitment to excellence and an understanding of the expectations of the role. In contrast, a lackluster submission may indicate a lack of motivation or a superficial understanding of the job requirements. Candidates who have genuine experience in a given area will articulate their thoughts with clarity and assurance, while those who are less familiar may struggle to provide coherent answers. By designing assessments that require candidates to draw on their past experiences, you can better identify those who are truly equipped to handle the challenges of the role. The First 90 Days: A Guide to Integrating New Operators Jhana has learned that an experienced operator will take their first 30 days with a company to observe, learn, and listen before they jump in and start fixing things. They understand that what they see at first glance might not be the root cause issue at play. Therefore, if they jump in and start tacking inefficiencies right away they might be missing the actual issue. From a founder's perspective, it may be frustrating, as they expect immediate results. However, it is essential for operators to familiarize themselves with the intricacies of the business to address the root causes of inefficiencies effectively. To prevent these frustrations, Jhana recommends scheduling a “success meeting” at the second-week mark. By that time, your operator will have had two weeks to observe the inner workings of your agency. During this meeting, the operator presents their findings and aligns with the founder on priorities moving forward. The result of this meeting should be a clear understanding of what the operator is expected to accomplish within their first 90 days so the founder knows this is in fact the right person for the job. How much time should you invest in training a COO? Jhana knows of cases where the founder is still training their ops manager six months later. To her, you should always keep in mind that any time spent on training is an investment on that person and they won't return on that investment until they are fully functional in their role. She prefers to do a 14-day boot camp before seeing ROI. During that time, she makes herself available every day for a minimum of 30 minutes so they can ask any questions or run something by her. The #1 Thing an Operator Should Do for the CEO The most important thing an ops manager should be doing for their CEO is help optimize their time to maximize their contributions to the organization and ensure that they focus on high-value tasks that drive growth. The CEO is supposed to be the agency's MVP and yet they constantly undervalue themselves when they spend time doing low-value tasks. This is why Jhana trains her operators to do a time audit on their CEO during their first 30 days in the organization. As a result, they can determine how much of the founder's time is going to low-value tasks and prepare a game plan to get them out of day-to-day operations. This misallocation of time detracts from the CEO's ability to innovate and lead and costs the organization in terms of lost opportunities and diminished productivity. Why not start now? Even if you're not at the point where you can hire an operator, do a time audit, locate the low-value tasks taking up too much of your time, and then delegate them to an assistant. That alone would make a huge difference in ensuring you're spending more time growing the business. Do You Want to Transform Your Agency from a Liability to an Asset? Do You Have a Personal Relationship with God and Pray Directly to God, the Creator of the Universe, for the Needs of Others MESSAGE SUMMARY: Will you come before God with your prayers, and for whom will you pray? TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Inadequacy. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Abundance. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).
