In this episode of "2 Giant Goofballs," hosts Drew and Rob recap the third episode of "Hard Knocks: Offseason," focusing on key discussions and negotiations involving the New York Giants.Saquon Barkley NegotiationsGeneral Manager Joe Schoen discusses Barkley's contract situation with his agent Ed Berry. Berry initially avoids providing a clear number, prompting Schoen to remind him that Barkley was allowed to test the market. Eventually, Berry offers a 3-year deal worth $12.5 million per year with $25 million guaranteed. Schoen queries if this deal would keep Barkley with the Giants.Schoen updates team owner John Mara about the negotiations, mentioning a text that indicated Chicago was driving up the price while Philadelphia was out. Mara expresses concern, stating, "I'm gonna have a tough time sleeping if Saquon goes to Philadelphia. He's the most popular player we have by far." Despite higher offers from other teams, Barkley ultimately signs with the Eagles for 3 years at $37.5 million with $26 million guaranteed. Schoen's unofficial offer had been 3 years at $36 million with $25 million guaranteed, leaving questions about whether it was an official offer and if Barkley truly wanted to stay with the Giants.Xavier McKinney's DepartureThe episode also covers Xavier McKinney's move to the Packers, who offered him a 4-year deal worth $67 million, making him the second-highest-paid safety in the league. The years of pandemic and lockdown are still working powerfully on us from the inside. But we have trouble acknowledging this, much less metabolizing it. This conversation with Christine Runyan, which took place in the dark middle of those years, helps make sense of our present of still-unfolding epidemic distress — as individuals, as communities, as a species. She has cultivated a reverence for the human nervous system. She tells truths about our bodies that western medicine itself is only fitfully learning to see. This quiet conversation is not just revelatory, but healing and calming. It holds startling prescience about some of what we're navigating now. The guys look at a few OTA takeaways as Daniel Jones progresses in 7 on 7 drills. Already connecting with Malik Nabers around practice, Adam puts to rest the need to debate what Daniel Jones is or is not for the New York Giants. On the Offensive front Andy looks at the curious fan reaction to Jermaine Eluenunor taking initial reps at Left Guard. While Evan Neal may be a concern, the Giants cannot enter camp assuming the third year tackle is destined to fail. The backfield and secondary also get a nod, as the guys look at the crowded rooms that offer some optimism but also a clear potential for additions as veteran players become cut casualties around the league. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onegiantpodcast/message

My guests today on the Online for Authors podcast are the editors of Feisty Deeds: Historical Fictions of Daring Women with a forward by Aimie K Runyan. The stories in Feisty Women span six centuries. Within these stories, you'll find that even when time periods and geographical locations vary greatly, women's struggles as they confront adversity are often remarkably universal. The twenty-three stories in this collection follow ordinary women from the 1470s to the 1960s as they rise to meet life's challenges. Foreign invasions, the outbreak of war, rigid domestic authority, strictures of society and religion, the supernatural, love and family bonds all serve as catalysts for the feisty deeds of the women in these tales. Her degree is in History, which gave her the perfect training for researching specific places and events in DARE NOT TELL and THE BRAVEST SOLDIER. She's traveled to all but one of the countries in the books and visited all the sites where the story takes place, some more than once. She was an oil brat, and attended high schools in Algiers, Algeria, Northwood, England, Clear Lake City, Texas, Beirut, Lebanon, and Kingston-upon-Thames, England. For many years, she's lived in Bellaire, Texas. She and her husband raised their son there. Now they have a rescue cocker spaniel underfoot and travel as often as they can convince their son to look after the dog for them. In a move that's got the whole Detroit region talking, General Motors is leaving the RenCen in 2025 to take up the upper floors of the office space at Hudson's Detroit. But that leaves one of Detroit's most iconic buildings without a clear path. Bedrock and GM are going to work over the next year to think about what it looks like going forward, but we take a first take at it, and talk about some of the amenities we'd like to see - and what the city might need. As always, feedback - dailydetroit - at - gmail - dot - com. Or 313-789-3211. The rundown: 01:46 - General Motors will be moving out of the Ren Cen and into Dan Gilbert's Hudson's Detroit in 2025 02:50 - Details we know are sparce, but could a shiny new building make people want to come to the office again? 04:09 - Redeveloping the Ren Cen into residential, if possible, could be the best move to improve Downtown Detroit's population, the lowest by percentage (and in some cases, raw numbers) among like regions in the country. 08:29 - RenCen speculation, what is going to happen to this iconic building? What would we like to see? Also offering something that suburbs can't - density and types of city-focused living. Greater Downtown Detroit has room for 50,000+ more people for it even compare to other major downtowns as far as residential, and also boost the city's population numbers; but there'd need to be real density and the RenCen could help with that. 11:47 - Gilbert had this idea to pitch this move to GM years ago when he first talked to Mayor Duggan about his plans to build Hudson's Detroit. It's been in the works a long time, and a reminder these leaders are always talking.
