Tonight my special guest is author Ann K. Howard who's here to discuss her book called His Garden that details the bodies left behind a shopping mall by serial killer William Devin Howell. "You want to know what happened? Ask Anne."—serial killer William Devin Howell A monster was on a killing spree. In just nine months, seven people went missing; all of their bodies eventually discovered in a wooded lot behind a suburban strip mall. But the investigation that led law enforcement to their suspect, William Devin Howell, is only part of the story behind HIS GARDEN: Conversations With A Serial Killer. A practicing attorney, author Anne K. Howard first contacted Howell while he was serving a fifteen-year sentence for the murder of one of his seven victims. He was about to be charged for the remaining six murders. A unique and disturbing friendship between the two began, comprised of written correspondence, face-to-face prison visits and recorded phone calls. Howell, who had been unwilling to speak to any members of the media, came to trust Howard. In the years that follow, the suspect shared his troubled history with Howard but refused to discuss the charges against him, promising only to tell her everything when the case was over. That time has come. HIS GARDEN probes the complicated and conflicted mind of William Devin Howell--Connecticut's most prolific serial killer. Both sacred and profane in its narrative style, the story on these pages explores the eternal question of human evil and its impact on others, including the woman he chose to hear his horrific confession.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

One of the most prolific serial killers in Connecticut, William Devin Howell murdered 7 people in just 9 months. He would lure his victims into his “murder mobile” a large work van, and then bound them with zip ties and duct tape and took them to abandoned parking lots where he would keep them for a day and a half to rape and brutalize them for hours and hours. Then he would strangle them and bury their bodies in shallow graves, in a roughly ¾ of an acre swampy, wooded lot behind a strip mall he called his “Garden.” **TW: This episode contains talk of brutality, rape, dismemberment and murder. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/freshlybrewednoir/support

On this week's episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz talk about one of the most vicious serial killers in Connecticut - William Devin Howell, a man who started getting into trouble in his young adulthood, racking up charges of all kinds and using drugs and alcohol to supplement his already subpar life. In 2003, he began a killing spree that would result in the death of 7 women. While he was initially charged with manslaughter for one missing sex worker, the skeletal remains of the rest of his victims were found in both 2007 and 2015, all while he was serving time for the initial manslaughter charge. It took several years to identify all of the victims of William Devin Howell, who had raped 6 out of the 7 women in the back of his van while recording the act. Howell is currently spending the rest of his life in prison in Connecticut. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/truecrimene/support

This week we'll be hopping a ride in The Murder Mobile with William Devin Howell, AKA The Sick Ripper, and following his trail of bodies that ended in a wooded area behind a local dollar store. Unlike other serial killers, Howell had a ritual of, after raping his victims for hours, taking them nude and tied in the back of his van through the McDonald's drive-thru for what he called “Their last meal” before taking them to a remote area, allowing them to eat, continually raping and then strangling them to death. He was already in prison serving time for murder when he admitted killing six others to his cellmate and saying that he had slept next to the body of one of his victims in his van he dubbed The Murder Mobile for two weeks. It was this same cellmate who took what Howell told him to the DA's office and worked out a deal to testify against Howell resulting in The Sick Ripper finally being brought to justice, sentenced to six life sentences which, in Connecticut, equals 360 years. In preparation for her true crime book, "His Garden: Conversations with a Serial Killer," attorney and writer Anne Howard corresponded and met with William Devin Howell over several years. I will be interviewing Anne about this experience.
A monster was on a killing spree. William Devin Howell is an American serial killer who was convicted of murdering seven people in 2003. He is believed to have been the most prolific serial killer in Connecticut history. In November 2017, while already serving a 15-year prison sentence for manslaughter, he was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences. The victims were identified as 7 women. Their bodies were discovered behind a shopping plaza on Hartford Road in New Britain, beginning in 2007. The person who discovered the bodies had been looking for hunting ground. The area is wooded and marshy and is inaccessible by car, which delayed the investigation and recovery of the victims. Anne K.
