Love the show? Have any thoughts? Click here to let us know! This week, we venture into the haunting landscapes of Utah for a spine-chilling double feature. First, Lauren explores the dark and eerie past of the Old Tooele Hospital—also known as Asylum 49. What was once a place of healing is now considered one of the most haunted locations in the state. From ghostly apparitions to aggressive spirits and shadowy figures, this former hospital has a long history of paranormal activity that blurs the line between the living and the dead. Then, Kenzie brings us the third and final installment of her deep dive into the Great Basin Murders. In this episode, we focus on the victims found in Utah—women whose lives were tragically cut short and whose cases remain unsolved. As we trace the patterns, examine the evidence, and consider potential suspects, we're left wondering if these killings are the work of one traveling predator—or something even more unsettling. There's not a lot of murder in Iceland -- there was a disconcerting spike in the number of homicides last year, 8 altogether -- so, obviously, there aren't a lot of murderers. And none of the murderers of Iceland are serial killers. With one exception. In the last part of the 16th century, not long after Iceland had been forced to institute the death penalty for capital crimes (this was Denmark's idea), Axlar-Björn Pétursson, who lived out on the west coast, on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, murdered lots of people who came by his farm looking for work, and became Iceland's one and only serial killer. And then, on account of the death penalty part, didn't get to just go be an exiled outlaw. Besides the details, such as they are, of Axlar-Björn's crimes, Anne is quite taken by Snæfellsnes and its eco-tourism, and Michelle, though she appreciates the folk-tale quality of the whole story, really wants to let us all know about Jón Árnason, the eminent Icelandic folk tale collector, because he was a self-taught scholar who is deserving of high honor, and Michelle does admire scholars who get lots done on a budget.

This serial killer case was a highly publicized case that took place in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor Michigan area from 1967-1969. This case even resulted in some interesting case law due to being one of the first where there were questions of fair trial considering how highly public the case had become. Dimes and Judas provide a spread of solid predictions for 2025 and beyond, discuss the inevitability of becoming crabs, and the current debate over whether or not young people are lazy for not taking easy 6 figure jobs right out of high school. They then move into a discussion of the book “Programmed to Kill: The Politics of Serial Murder” by David McGowan which pertains to the connection between government mind control experiments utilizing trauma, the rise in child abuse cases in the late 20th century, and the proliferation of serial killers as tools. Lastly, on this edition of The Copepranos Society, Dimes speaks with Last Things on the unacknowledged problems with space colonization and whether prayer works. At the end of the ancient mythology section we discussed last time, the Popol Vuh (here paralleled by the Title of Totonicapán) depicts the restoration of militaristic class society in the K'iche' corner of the Maya world in the 13th c. CE, after some centuries of relative freedom and equality following the overthrow of the Classic Maya around 950. The founders of the new ruling class are an itinerant, mountain-dwelling secret society who begin their attack on the stateless, classless society around them by prosecuting a covert campaign of ritual serial murder. For perhaps obvious reasons, this passage seems practically untouched in modern scholarship—the most recent English translation of Popol Vuh silently cuts it entirely!—but we of the Kingless Generation have all the right tools to make sense of it in our own little way: the immortal science of historical materialism, the anthropological theories of Brian Hayden regarding the roots of ruling classes in secret society religion, and leftist parapolitics research on Fort Bragg, Marc DuTroux, the Atlanta child murders, and many other modern instances of ritualized abuse and murder for which good evidence exists for the involvement of a wider network of Euro-American military, intelligence, and high bourgeois elements. This week, in Nixonville, South Carolina, when a nice couple are found, horribly murdered, in their nice home, everyone thinks it must be the serial killer, who was on the loose, in the area. Until they find out it wasn't him. Attention is then turned to the couple's troubled, adult daughter & her criminal boyfriend, who live in a tent, on the couple's property. There's a conviction & all seems right... until blood from the scene matches up to a stranger! Catherine May Wood was… an enigma. She constantly complained about how unfair her life was right before bragging about how she was in complete control, not only of her life, but also of the lives of those around her. She just couldn't seem to make up her mind claiming that she was both a victim, and a maestro, a tragic character beset by life, while also being the puppeteer controlling everything in her domain. Then, Gwendolyn Gail Graham entered into her life, and seemingly all hell broke loose.NOTE: Some names may have been changed in order to protect the identities of those who wish to remain anonymous. They're called The Redheaded Murders, the brutal killing and dumping of up to 14 women along motorways in the American South more than 30 years. The murders remained a mystery, almost forgotten, until Mr Campbell's students from a small high school in Eastern Tennessee got on the case. They identified a serial killer connected to six of the murders. The work of the high school students is featured in a 10 part podcast called Murder 101. At one point it was the most listened to podcast in New Zealand. We'll talk to Mr Campbell and student sleuth Hannah Metcalfe.

The case first came to light in December 2010 when a police officer and his dog were searching for a missing woman and stumbled upon the remains of Shannan Gilbert, a sex worker who had disappeared earlier that year. As the investigation progressed, additional sets of remains were found in the same area, leading authorities to believe they had stumbled upon a serial killer's dumping ground.Over the course of the investigation, the remains of a total of at least 10 victims, mainly female sex workers, were discovered. The victims were identified as follows:Maureen Brainard-Barnes: She was a 25-year-old woman from Connecticut who went missing in July 2007. Her remains were found in December 2010.Melissa Barthelemy: She was a 24-year-old woman from New York who disappeared in July 2009. Her remains were also discovered in December 2010.Megan Waterman: She was a 22-year-old woman from Maine who went missing in June 2010. Her remains were found in December 2010.Amber Lynn Costello: She was a 27-year-old woman from North Carolina who went missing in September 2010. Her remains were discovered in December 2010.Shannan Gilbert: She was a 24-year-old sex worker from New Jersey who disappeared in May 2010. In 2018, Elizabethton High School students teacher Alex Campbell challenged his students to see if they could figure out if the Redhead murders are sometimes called the Bible Belt Murders. There were 14 unsolved murders with a similar M.O. Campbell gets help from a former FBI agent teaching the young people about profiling a case. The students of Elizabethton High School start to see a potential pattern emerge in six of the potential murders. In looking at the background of the murders, they started New Years day 1985, the body of a young female with reddish hair was found strangled, wrapped in a blanket and tossed down an embankment off the southbound side of I-75 near Jellico, Tennessee. Due to decomposition, authorities believe she was killed about 72 hours before her body was found, 10-12 weeks pregnant when she was murdered. The identification of Tina McKenney Farmer of Indiana helped the investigation move forward quickly. The evidence from the crime scene was tested and a match was found. The DNA matched Jerry Johns, convicted in the 1987 attempted murder of a woman he kidnapped , strangled, and then dumped along I-40. Linda Schacke met Jerry Johns in a club in West Knoxville, Tennesee. The 36-year-old trucker seems like a nice guy until he pulls a gun, forces her at gunpoint to drive to a wooded area off the interstate where he rips her shirt and uses part of it to strangle her. Johns then tosses the strangled and bound woman on the inside of a storm drain under I-40. Like Tina Famer and many others, Linda Schacke has red hair, Unlike the others, Linda Schacke survives the attack. When Jerry Johns was convicted of the attack on Schacke, he was considered a suspect in some homicides, but there was never enough evidence. However, even though Tina Marie McKenney Farmer was positively identified by fingerprint identification, there was DNA left behind in the blanket she was wrapped up in after she was killed. 2019, DNA evidence identified convicted kidnapper Jerry Leon Johns as the man that killed Tina Marie McKenney Farmer in December 1984. Johns died in prison in 2015. On December 18, 2019, a grand jury in Campbell County, Tennessee, ruled that Johns would have been indicted for murder in Farmer's death if he were still alive. The students of Elizabethton High School continue to investigate and believe they have developed some strong evidence that shows whoever killed McKenney-Farmer, probably killed Lisa Nichols, Michelle Inman, Elizabeth Lamotte, Tracy Walker and even a still unidentified Jane Doe in Desoto County. +Episode 51: Breanne Pennington, Migdalia Perez, Kathleen Daneault, Patricia Joyce & The Dark History of Murder In Gardner, MassachusettsThis is a true crime, local history, and storytelling podcast. I write about crimes, I set the scene, connect story themes, I talk about things that happened here, in Massachusetts and New England. This episode deals with gun violence, mental health, murder-suicide, stalking, terrorized communities, domestic violence, sexual assault, serial killing, murder, and society. Listen with care. We peel back the layers to decades of crimes that shook the quiet town of Gardner, Massachusetts to its core and delve into the timeline of Breanne Pennington's murder, sharing her happiest times and her most proud moments spent with her family, her faith, her love of horses and raising chickens. The young mother met a tragic end at the hands of her own husband, Aaron Pennington, who still has not been apprehened.Casting light on Gardner's dark past, a town with a rich history and the unsettling details of other women's murders dating back to the 1960s, we say the names of those Gardner women whose disappearances and deaths are far less known today. In 2020, Migdalia Perez was stalked and killed by a man she was terrified of. She got no help or protection in her final days. 25-year-old Kathleen Daneault was found murdered in 1983. More than 30 years later, we learned she was killed by a man whose notorious reputation of violence against women paints the chilling picture of a serial murderer, and the mystery of the still-unsolved case of Patricia Joyce. In the Summer of 1965, Patty was a hard-working 17-year-old preparing for her senior year in high school. Her story is hardly known today and her case was looked at closely for its similarities to The Boston Strangler murder case of the 60s.We examine the grim reality of domestic violence in its many forms and the dangers that exist behind closed doors in what could be any home, in any neighborhood.Special thanks to The Gardner News for their reporting - thegardnernews.comCrime of the Truest KindOnline: CrimeoftheTruestKind.comFollow @crimeofthetruestkindDomestic Violence does not look the same for everyone.National Coalition Against Domestic ViolenceSupport the showLive Event! As with so many serial killer cases certain things are mysterious. It is clear that Bianchi and Buono are serial killer superstars, almost in the same league as Bundy and Dahmer. But their crimes were not particularly nefarious by serial killer standards. Nor did they rack up the greatest body count. But still, there is a certain je ne sais quoi about the case which makes it stand out. Perhaps it is the era and location of the crimes. It is so quintessential American and iconic of the Golden Age of Serial Murder. The bright California sun shining down on beautiful, dead young girls laying naked spread eagle for all the world to see as tired Dirty Harry looking detectives looks on in frustration and despair. But, before I reveal too much of this dark true crime plot, let us stop and take a closer look.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodTwitter: https://twitter.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. (episode unlocked from Patreon due to the increased popularity and skepticism of Programmed to Kill) Today, I look at the concept of serial killers as laid out by the FBI, specifically in Agent John E. Douglas's book 'Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit' and Netflix series, and then I compare it to Dave McGowan's 'Programmed to Kill: the Politics of Serial Murder'. I talk about the history of the concept, specifically the FBI's revisionism in pretending they invented the study of serial killers. Then I go into Ed Kemper (and to a lesser degree Herb Mullin) as depicted in the book and show, and the very interesting facts that get curiously left out of these popular histories. Full warning: it gets pretty weird, as we get into 'behavioral modification' experiments at Atascadero and Vacaville, and if Vacaville comes up, you know the Symbionese Liberation Army will as well. In the early hours of December 26th, 1980, a security patrol at the east gate of Royal Air Force Woodbridge spotted lights descending into a small pine forest bordering the base. Believing it was a downed civilian aircraft, a small team was assembled and sent to investigate and render assistance. As the team approached the lights, their radios began to malfunction, the air became electrically charged, animals at the nearby farms went into a frenzy, and walking became difficult. “Like walking in deep water.” Two of the men pressed on and arrived at a small clearing where the bright lights had seemed to stop moving. There was a massive silent explosion of bright white light. One of the two men was left in a trance-like state while the other approached a small, black, triangular shaped craft hovering above the forest floor. It appeared to be made of seamless opaque black glass and was covered in symbols that looked like hieroglyphs. As he ran his fingers over the surface of the strange symbols, the craft began to slowly ascend through the trees and took off into the sky at an “impossible” speed. That was only the beginning. Often referred to as Britain's Roswell, the Rendlesham Forest Incident is one of the most well documented UFO cases in history. Join us as we explore the case in more detail and discuss some of the more wild tales that have emerged since 1980 including a possible government cover-up, a binary code from the future, and a possible close encounter of the third kind. The 1980s which were smack dab in what criminal justice experts call the “Epidemic Years” or “The Golden Age of Serial Murder”, was nothing if not a hodgepodge of frenzied criminal activity: from bogus claims leading to the Satanic Panic to falsely accused Daycare child sex abuse, the rumors of heinous crimes were rampant. In a time when people were fixated on stranger danger, hunting monsters, and saving the children, some of those monsters slipped through the cracks. The bad guys of the 1980s weren't exactly as the rumors described, but they did do reprehensible acts. Today's case took place in the final year of that decade; A man known as The Vancouver Child Killer, who could have been the most prolific and horrific child sex abuser of our time, was apprehended thanks to a combination of impatience, coincidence, and the bravery of two people.Interested in a whiter smile?
